I did not walk today but this is what I'm doing this evening:
1) Stand up desk
2) Foot Peddler
3) Drinking water
4) Tracking my food
I slept all day because I work nights and I spend work sitting and talking on video chats so get little exercise. Yesterday I created a "stand up desk" with large plastic bins on my table where I put my laptop and another large computer monitor. It works great! Every little bit of moving helps since today I did not go for a walk. I may use my under the desk foot peddler at some point during my shift tonight. Drinking more water is also important to digest and "move it through" the system. Tracking my foot helps me stay honest about what I eat. These are things I'm thinking about as I wake up and will get ready to work in a few hours.4 -

I have just re-connected with MFP after seeing the attached picture at a recent family gathering. I have been dealing with RA and probably using it as an excuse to not lose weight. Just met with a Weight Loss physician today and am highly motivated to start this journey, but know I will need support along the way and have always struggled with asking for the help I need. I am both excited and fearful to get going so any helpful tips you have would be appreciated! Also I am new to posting on a message board, so suggestions for that would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome! This is a wonderful and supportive group! I love your idea of creating the list of distractions, and also your plan to evaluate the risks of swimming. Our public pool has been kept at only 50% capacity and I've been going either when it first opens or about 45 minutes before it closes at night. It's been a life-saver for exercise and for the mental benefits. I hope that you're able to visit your pool as well!3 -
@bluffgirl67 nice to see you. I like that you have 3 cardio days and 2 strength/yoga days. I am trying to get in 2 strength training days a week and cardio the rest to add up to 5-6 days of exercise.
@wanderlight Here is what my old chair was like:
Here is what my current chair is like. It isn’t that comfy just I can get in and out of it without spilling my drink:
I swam in the Guadalupe River.
Thanks for posting the Hamilton Dance Workout @pamiede. That should be fun.
@BrownSugar I like your post maybe because I do a lot of this. I like spicy hot food. I also drink ice water. I agree that coffee and tea have beneficial aspects to them. I do need to stand up more ever since I broke my leg I haven’t built up the amount of standing time I did before.
This Monday morning was very different than before. I started looking at job options even though I did that this weekend. I also contacted past supervisors for references. I haven't read the news and I didn't exercise until my husband was done with work and we could take a walk. I am checking in here rather late as well. I did find out that I do not have to do 3 job contacts a week until September for unemployment. So I only need to apply to jobs I want. I did log my breakfast at least. Anyway I do not like how this is throwing off what routine I managed to establish for myself.5 -
@speyerj Thank you for the well wishes! All exercise has been put on hold after a bit of an issue this weekend with the pregnancy. We're OK, just a big scare. Today I have all my symptoms in full force and I've never been so grateful to be so sick to my stomach. I've let my anxiety eating slip back in and need to nip that in the bud again. I want to keep things healthy and steady. No real junk food cravings but I really don't need to eat that block of cheese in 2 days.9
-
Today was better with following routine. I read some news and got in my strength training. I haven't worked on job applications. I went with my daughter to get things we need.2

I'm getting small routines rebuilt at the new house. I am autistic and have ADHD, so routines are necessary components of my life, but new house means things are different; for one thing, I have to allow for the fact that I don't have a separate dressing area that I can turn on a light in while leaving the bedroom dark. Fortunately I can take down, brush out, and put up my hair in the dark. (It's all by touch anyway)
Once he gets a job and we have income coming in again, I'll be able to join a gym and have that routine again too.4 -
I'm 55 years old, 5'4", 100 pounds overweight, with bad knees and plantar fasciitis. I was raped 6 weeks ago (yeah, unbelievable that someone that looks like me would be raped) and I'm feeling so disappointed with myself that I have let my body go to the point that I was not able to put up a good defense. I need to put my anger and my feelings into my work out. I would like to hear from folks who have a lot of weight to lose like myself. Thank you.

Hey @Lucerne2,
I just wanted to say hi. I'm also 5'4 and am looking to lose between 80-100 lbs. I also wanted to say I'm so sorry that you went through such a horrible ordeal. As a rape survivor myself (21 years ago), please know the act of rape has nothing to do with what you look like. It's an act of violence and control, pure and simple. I was 148 pounds and very athletic when I was raped but I can promise you it didn't matter what I looked like. What does matter is that you are still here and that you survived. All my love and welcome to the group

Here is a photo I took of my "stand up" desk I created at home. I'm proud to say it is better for me - not only do I burn more calories but I can move around, stretch my legs & back and feel better & more alert standing here working on my computer. I make video chat calls for Amazon to their employees all night long and it's quite monotonous. It's a temporary job and I'm burning out on it and seek another job - hopefully in my neighborhood.
I found a link that tells how many calories burned just by standing and I figure that in five hours total standing every shift I could burn about 890 calories each day.
Here is the link in case anyone's interested in figuring out how many calories they burn by standing: https://startstanding.org/calculate-calories-burned-sitting-vs-standing/

Good morning everyone!
Welcome to all the new people! It's so thrilling to see new faces here, can't wait to get to know all of you.
Some tags real quick:
@mmdeveau The designer Casapinka has a mystery knit-along called The Sharon Show- she made up a character for her cat, Sharon, and she's incoporating faux office drama in with a design made by a cat. It's hilarious and should be fun. Ravelry's recently changed it's look, and has given some people eye strain or seizures, so click with that in mind, if you're sensitive to that kind of thing: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-sharon-show
My handle on Ravelry is wroughtinfire, if you (or anyone here!) use it already and would like to be friends over there (note: I use a lot of language over there in my main forum group. Just a thing!)
@bluffgirl so good to see you here again! I just lost my streak due to a power outage, here's the link to reset it if you'd like: https://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/login_counter_reset_request
I got down to a new low for this round of weight loss this morning! 181.8! It was surprising, as I lost power yesterday and so didn't use my phone at all to conserve power. Didn't log. It worked out!
Moving further away from my recent stagnation point of 184 is really motivating me to keep going. Today, log everything, keep the deficit, move stuff back out of the garage (we moved it in there because of Tropical Storm Isaias) so I can get to my weights and treadmill.
Have a great day, everyone!5 -

August end of goal: 229.
I just want to finally get out of the 230 range. I've been stuck in a seesaw of 235-240.
My goals for August:
🌱 Have a full month of logging my food
🌱Start my new job (yay!)
🌱 Ride my bike 2x a week with my son
🌱 Get rid of the flavor enhancers for my water
🌱 Get rid of the physical junk in my house
I am a mother of 3. I have been sick for the past year. So I am going to be brutally honest with you and myself. My house is embarrassing with the junk that has stacked up over the last year. My ex-husband moved in to help me get better. I feel it got worse. So each time I get rid of something I am going to also get rid of some emotional baggage I've been carrying for the last year. It's not hoarder level, just too much for my small house. I started this on August 1st and it's doing well for me.10 -
On the annoying side, I woke up at 2 am feeling Something Is Wrong. And yep. TOM finally arrived. So I'm feeling pretty strung out all ready, despite being up at the usual time and having had plenty of sleep.
On the good side, I'm down another pound. That makes forty pounds lost, and I could not have gotten this far without your support and encouragement. Thank you all so much!
And when I have lost forty-four pounds, I will be a quarter of the way to my goal weight of 160.

Wednesday weigh in
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
7/29: 221.8
7/31: 220.6
8/5: 220.6
8/12:
8/19:
8/26:
8/31:
Aug. GW: 213.6
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- bike ride or exercise bike 5 times per week - 5/5
- short walking videos 3 times a day or a walk outside or a hike 5 times per week -3/5
- strength training (including core specific exercises) 2 times per week - 2/2
- chair yoga 4 times per week - 4/4
The scale doesn't show a loss since 7/31 but technically I am down since last Wednesday's weigh in so I'll take it. I didn't hit my goal for walking but what I did get done includes 2 hikes so that was fun.
I think I need to rework my exercise goals. I'm riding my bike more than doing the exercise bike. My bike rides are longer than what I usually do on the exercise bike and seem to take a bit more out of me than the exercise bike (even though I keep increasing the resistance on the exercise bike). I had planned to rethink my exercise a few weeks ago but I never did. I want to clarify what I want to achieve through my exercise as well as continue to do the fun things like biking and hiking. When I first started exercising, I wanted to work on things that would improve my functional fitness. I was so out of shape that everyday life was hard. Now that I'm seeing progress, I want to make sure that I'm continuing to focus on and improve the areas I need to continue to make daily activities easier. I might do some things to improve balance or posture. My core is still weak and I need to continue to work on that. Climbing stairs is still hard and I want to improve there as well. I don't really know what my exercise plan will look like for this week or maybe even next. Until I figure it out, I'll for sure continue to bike and hike for fun. I know I want to continue the strength training and chair yoga but I might look to add some more exercises or start a new routine. Just not sure right now. I need to do some more research. If you have any good videos or other resources, please feel free to share.
Hope you all are well and have had a good start to August!5 -

@cosafe1 since breaking my leg a few years ago I am still working to stand longer and longer. Love your desk.
I am seeing weight loss today for many of you. @CupcakeCrusoe, @AlexandraFindsHerself,
@MelodyH32 I am concentrating on decluttering too. We went from a large house to a small house and need to get rid of all the stuff from grown up kids etc. I feel there is a link between clutter, weight and debt. I have been paying off all our cards too.
Today I am continuing to work on a developing a weekday routine that includes job search and decluttering activities along with my other activities of news, logging, meal plan, prep and exercise. I got in some exercise and applied for a job, worked on another. Right now I feel a bit depleted of energy after a busy morning.3 -

Hi Melody, Just thought I'd let you know I'm in a supportive group that is doing a Declutterfest 2020 right now. Everyone does their own thing, and I have found it to be very motivating to share what I've been doing each day to get things straightened up at home and hear what others are doing. I get ideas on how to go about getting rid of things or storing items that I want to keep. The group is called Building Healthy Habits if you'd like to join us.2 -
Okay I bought yet ANOTHER swim shirt! I figure whatever gets me excited to work out is an allowable splurge.
And today I swam 45 mins instead of my usual 30 so I guess it’s working!

Hope everyone's August is going well so far. I'm both simultaneously horrified it's already the 6th, and surprised it's not later. Time has been so weird this year.
I made homemade brioche bread for the first time in my life yesterday, and it turned out amazing, which I'm super proud of. Now I just have to give a bunch of it away- it's not exactly health food, whoops. It is delicious though- not surprising, as it's mostly butter, sugar, eggs, and white flour.
I've been on a real baking kick lately, which is fun! But it does mean I have a lot of baked goods to pawn off on friends. Also, it's hot as blazes right now, so I'm doing a lot of sweating in my oven-heated kitchen.
That's ok though, I feel like I've really rediscovered a love for cooking and playing with recipes that I had somehow lost in the past few years.
That being said... anyone live in South Louisiana and want some carrot cake? I have... so much.
Start weight 4/23 - 252 lbs
5/28 - 236 lbs (down 16)
6/25 - 227.9 lbs (down 8)
7/31 - 220.8 (down 7.1)
8/6 - 218.2 (-2.6 from last week)
Total amount lost - 33.8
End of August goal weight - 212 lbs
ultimate goal weight - 160ish? this one's kinda up in the air. I've never been a "healthy" weight as an adult, so I honestly have no idea what I'll look/feel like once I get around this size.
This was a pretty big loss week for me- not sure exactly what that's about, honestly. Feel like I was over my calorie goal several days last week, but that's ok, I'll take it!
I did my longest run so far on Monday- a whole 4.5 miles. Thought I might die, but was super proud of myself. 8 months ago me could NEVER. And so close to my 5 mile goal! Heck yes.
Non-scale August goals
- do a 5 mile run with an average pace of 12min/mile ~ right on track with this one.
- do a 15 mile bike ride ~ did 11.5 yesterday, getting there!
- bike or run 5 times a week ~ also working on this one
- walk dog at least 20 min every day he doesn't go to daycare ~ yep, so far so good!
- have 15 days this month be meat (not counting fish) free ~ on track with this as well.
- eat vegan at least 5 days ~ none yet. pesky butter and cheese keep tripping me up.
- eat takeout/pre-made/restaurant food 5 times max ~ none yet!
- finish 2 books ~ done. now the goal is 5 books this month!
- no soda! ~ yep, so far so good.
- don't let laundry or dishes pile up ~ also on the right track!
- try 5 new recipes ~ doing well here too!
So far August is going pretty well. I know it's early yet, so I'm not trying to jinx myself.
If anyone wants to add me as a friend, please do!9 -

I can't believe I missed this yesterday. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope that you're talking to someone to help you process, like everyone says (there's a reason they say it), it's really not your fault. Nothing about you did this. Someone else did this to you, for their own reasons, not having to do with you. And everyone talks about fight/flight responses, but what they don't talk about is the "freeze" response, which is also baked into us evolutionar-ily. This is not your fault. This is NOT your fault. Hugs if you want them from someone who's been there.
Hugs to you too, @AZWildcatnNC , @KeriA and @AlexandraFindsHerself1971 , and to everyone who's been there, too.

Today is starting out pretty well, but since I didn't do much yesterday it's here to be done today, and by that I mean dishes. Also laundry, but that came down the stairs with me and is washing.
I also have today's work to do which is going to the store, so I'll be spending some time this morning generating the list and then shopping the pantry before I go.
I was down another pound when I woke up, so I am definitely in a whoosh. Wonder where it'll bottom out? I'm really tickled to be at 255, but another pound or two before the plateau would be nice. We'll see. But I'm not even trying those jeans until TOM is done; my belly is sore even in yoga pants.3 -
Changes I'm making to try and take care of myself.
I'm thinking I may try keto again, only this time be prepared with easy snacks and foods I can make myself beforehand.
Be intentional about the food I eat; notice how I feel afterwards. I am tracking my food here on MFP.
I fashioned a few large plastic bins and set them upside down on my work table. I turned it into a "stand up desk" and saved about $200. I burn calories while standing for my job making video chat calls to employees from around the world. They are up during my night time; hence I work nights for the time being.

I was looking through my weight history this morning and I noticed something that never jumped out at me before. I gained 22lbs in one month!! I did not even know this was possible. From Jan 22, 2018 to Feb 24, 2018 I jumped from 202.1lbs to 224.6lbs. And I've been carrying it around ever since. Has anyone ever experienced something similar?
I looked back through my emails and journal to see what was going on in my life during that time and there was nothing out of the ordinary - I went to the Women's March in NYC and came down with the flu. I had the usual stress of running a small business and I was trying to launch my new website, which was a nightmare because the web designer had ghosted with my fee. I had gone to the doctor the year before to get my thyroid and other bloodwork checked and all was normal. There were only sporadic entries for my food diary so no clues there. I can only guess that I simply wasn't paying attention and was eating way more than normal.
Anyway, I'm taking it as incentive to really stay on top of logging. I am clearly someone who gains easily when I'm not paying attention...4 -
I check in when I hit a new low.

3rd GW: 186 overweight but not obese
4th GW: 150 lbs. Healthy weight Then evaluate what weight is best for me. I just want to get to a healthy weight for me.
Aug Goal weight: 244 (I can do this)
My Aug Goals are:
1. Continue to log, get enough sleep and water intake and stay under calorie goal with healthy meals at home. I am doing this but sometimes my water intakes goes down.
2. Get some exercise 5-6 days a week and up NEAT. Try to exceed 150 min. of exercise/week. Now that I have my Zip I will see what steps I am getting and then set a goal each week to up it.Doing good with upping exercise. I usually get at least 5 days a week. However I am trying to set a base for NEAT using steps so still working on this. I just got a ZIP to measure steps last week.
3. I want to get well in the mid to low 240s and not see any weight in the 250s again. I am close to 20 lbs loss.
4. My goal is to de-clutter my house starting with my art room. This should help with goal #2. I haven't started with this since I have had to add looking for a job to the to do list.
I found out that I do not have to do 3 job contacts until September for unemployment. I will be looking but will only apply for jobs that are safe and seem to be an excellent fit for me. I am hoping this will allow me to do some de-cluttering of my home as planned.
Today I plan to do my strength training for the 2nd time this week. I am hoping that I can keep this loss going. Yesterday my hunger level increased. I ate some fruit and a high protein snack. I stopped when I felt satisfied. So my calories were slightly higher than the days before. Today I added blueberries and some pecans into my oatmeal. I will see how that does.4 -
@lucerne2 I've just read your post, what happened to you is awful! The fact that you survived such a violent attack is testimony to your strength! I hope you have a support system around you that you can turn to. I'm really sorry that you have had such a terrible experience sending hugs your way xoxo2
