You need to be in a deficit long enough for your body to start burning it. It's quite difficult depending on the person.2

Visceral fat is lost best through exercise interestingly... losing weight over all helps though. Or so I read a year or two ago.2

Visceral fat is lost when you lose wt and BF in the process.
Exercise is not essential to losing BF but can help when it increases your cal deficit which contributes to the burning of excess fat.
The only comnercially available method to measure VAT is DEXA and I gave vern able to reduce my VAT to near nil at only 0 06# and 1.61 cu in at about 12% BF
Reducing VAT was not my goal but it happened naturally in the course of losing wt and BF.

Technicallly, visceral fat is not the same thing as what most people think of as belly fat (the front pouch of fat on top of abdominal muscles). Visceral fat is on the inside of the body, below the muscles, around/near the internal organs.
You lose visceral fat the same way you lose any other fat, more or less: Improved diet and exercise. I've seen mixed info, but for some people at least, visceral fat seems to deplete earlier in the process (but for many people the external (subcutaneous) belly fat is the last to go).
