Expanding your rib cage with training?

Options
We all heard the myth that you can expand your rib cage with weight training, particularly with certain exercises like the pull over and chest flyes. I asked Frederic Delavier, the author of Strength Training and Anatomy. He said it is possible if you train while young, while you are still developing.

I found an article that said something similar, if you do these exercises while young you can indeed expand your rib cage. What do you think?

Uh...what? I’d certainly never heard that, and in the pantheon of body parts I’ve ever thought of expanding (or shrinking) it’s never been my rib cage 😳

If you want to expand your rib cage - you go for it!

I wouldn't put any value on anything published by T-nation. When there might be some truth in a rare article, most of their content isn't worth sifting through.

It was written in this book by Frederic Delavier and I asked him personally on youtube, he said it is possible if you train while young.

I first read it when I was 14-15 I always thought it was true.

That would have been of interest to a friend of mine 45 years ago.

He had a nickname of "Long John Silver" - due to his sunken chest.
