What nobody tells you about losing weight

Most of the changes you made to lose the weight will need to be life long changes. Eating better, exercising, etc. This is not just a "do all the things to get to goal and then go back to old ways" thing, it is a lifestyle change that you need to accept and learn to love.14

This is especially important for me right now- at times I think "when I lose the weight everything can go back to normal" but then I have to remind myself I'm only 20 years old and I can make this my new normal17 -

Oh I HATE the tiny jeans pockets. so useless!
My body reacts differently now to my cycle. it sneaks up on me because I don't get the achy breasts or the crampiness I used to. I still get the bloating and the PMS just on a much smaller scale. So I really gotta pay attention to my calendar and had to install an app on my phone for reminders that its coming because a couple of my cycles started and I didnt feel Any of the "warning" signs of the cramps, bloat, etc..
I went skiing today . 1st day of the season. 20 lbs lighter than the end of last season. Wow that threw me for a loop. On top of being rusty from the 7 month break, I was so off balance and awkward. It was like re learning how to ski. by the end I had adjusted and was skiing like 'normal' again. The nice part was my thighs and knees didn't ache afterwards like they used to!!
I can't wait to go skiing down 60 lbs from last season...I couldn't possibly be worse than I was then! lol9 -
One thing I've learned, it's far more important to have good systems rather than good goals. A good goal is "I'm going to walk 7 miles everyday!" A system is having only one or two fairly effortless decision points to get you to do that walk. Like, having a partner who'll keep you accountable at 8 am; having your clothing and shoes laid out the night before to put on when you're ready to leave. I have this discussion with people in my life all the time- they see commitment to a habit as infringing on their freedom.28

For downhill skiing please don't neglect to have your bindings adjusted after significant weightloss. They will keep protecting you from injury that way.9 -

This is very important advice. My friend who's been on ski patrol for years didn't think of it and was off her leg for many months after some surgery to fix what she broke. Of course if you use telemark skis like I do, you're kind of hosed either way since they do not release.3 -

Ha! I know exactly what you mean! I'm 51 and I often get the cautious "is everything ok?"10 -
When you reach goal weight, you won't necessarily look like you thought you would. I'm three pounds under goal, and although my arms and chest look about how I imagined, I still have room for improvement in the stomach area. I feel great, though, and I'm losing weight that I officially gained as a teenager.26

pretty proud of this, but I am posting it to show you that progress is not a straight line but made up of peaks and valleys, so just keep on keeping on

One change I've noticed is fitting in smaller spaces. Normally, I won't dare squeeze into a middle seat, or a crowded elevator.
Trying to walk around a crowded room is less embarrassing. I don't feel as though I'm going to knock people over.25 -

We have a series of baby gates through the house to keep our dogs in certain rooms and there was one that I always had to turn to the side to get through. Now I can walk straight through but every so often I still turn to the side. Might be more out of habit than anything but it is still funny.16 -

Yes!! Last night in my padel game we had a few rogue balls and I ran right of that court and jump/squeezed myself through the small passages between the court walls and supporting pillars at speed. A few months ago I would have had to carefully negotiate that space - it’s tight!7 -

Losing weight is so slow for me that I wonder if anyone notices. These days the only people who see me are coworkers. They all have weight challenges and we don’t talk about healthy eating. I notice my weight loss. My face is a little smaller and my clothes are looser. Losing weight even slowly is so worth it!26

Over the last week or two I’ve really started to experience the tailbone discomfort described by a number of other posters.
Do you get used to it over time?!5 -
They don’t tell you how happy a spreadsheet and a graph can make you, seriously if I start losing motivation or craving a chocolate bar all I have to do is look at my spreadsheet and see my progress and all of a sudden I’m not hungry anymore 😆

-The need to cook more and not have protein bars and cereal all the time because it is easy!
-Nobody else really cares about your weight except other fitness types and close family.
-Vegetables CAN taste great if seasoned right.
-Our food industry puts a lot of bad things into foods I used to eat all the time!
-Fitness and nutrition has literally become a hobby of mine, as well as a way of life.19 -
Notice small things over time like:
-Better breathing overall
- Able to cross my legs effortlessly now which I haven't been able to do without struggle for awhile!17 -

I've learned to buy seat cushions for the hard wooden chairs I sit in, in our house. I've also learned to 'shift' my seating occasionally to make sure I don't wind up numb or with a nagging ache in my backside5 -

How many times in a year one can wonder aloud, “how much flipping weight was I carrying in the first place?!”
I know I’m losing weight. I was large enough that I’m actually gaining muscle in the process. However, every 6 weeks or so, my brain jumps ahead of reality and I have to check myself—I’m not yet at goal; I’m not yet able to do a full pull up—whatever it is.7 -
I keep sort of switching back between the two; sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and am horrified that I'm still dealing with rolls, stomach that sticks out, lumpy saddlebags, etc. but other times I'm absolutely amazed at the fact that I can see the beginnings of my waist, of how the back rolls are disappearing and a long smooth back is emerging, and I'm a little surprised then when I have to work just a bit to get the zipper up on my tighter jeans. Oh, yeah. Still got a abdominal pad.14

I dropped a couple of pounds below my sweet spot, so have allowed myself to eat a lot more than usual this week, and picked up the two.
Walking to Pilates this morning, I felt like I was waddling and had reverted to my old, much heavier self. The two extra pounds, which I hadn’t wanted to lose in the first place, made a noticeable difference.9 -
It's been a while since I have played volleyball- I finally did with my family today and now that my wrists are bony it hurts a lot more!5

Sometimes I eat in the middle of the night. Last night was one of those nights. I didn’t know I would do that once in a while. I counted those calories in today’s total. It’s hard.9

been a while...weirdest thing i noticed was i had a tiny "tail" lol. Not a legit tail like you see sometimes when the spine extends...but a tiny tail bump from the same sort of situation. Hurts like hell to hit.. Also butt bones and how awkward they were lol8

When you hit your goal weight and it's not what you thought you would look like you set another goal, and another, and another... I'm not even sure what a goal weight is anymore but still trying to get my body to what I want it to be whatever that weight will end up.19

Also, ppl will react different to your weight loss. Some ppl will be inspired, some will wanna compete and some will be indifferent. You just gotta remember you’re doing it for you.28
