Is anyone weighing their food? I just bought a scale, it’s set to grams but where do I find how much everything should weigh? Like proteins and veggies etc? I have looked on internet and can’t find too much. I am on a 1600 calories macro meal plan, I think. Do I sound new and helpless??? Hahaha...help, is anyone can. 😁
Hey girl! There is a lot of great info if you scan through the "Getting started" forums I do weigh my food. It is a game changer! A serving in grams should be on containers. Just verify it matches up to whatever entry you are using. How much you should be eating depends on your own personal calorie goals. For produce, you can look for USDA entries in the food database here. Those entries should be pretty accurate2 -
@MicheleWeiss617 I had to go into the Health app on my iPhone and set it up there. To be honest, I had to use a YouTube video to show me...lol4

@naughtoncarol231 I was the exact same!! Kinda depressing go isn’t it? I did a whole week of not changing my meals and recorded everything. I was over by 1000 or more each day. Going to be totally honest here, it really disgusted me. So the next day I cut out one thing that stood out on the daily tracker. Then tell things the day after and slowly I am down to only 100-200 over. I am still trying to figure out the portion and macro parts but a start is a start. So I am behind the whole way, we can do this slow start together!!

Hi everyone! Wow thank you so much for joining me, I am excited to hear everyone's stories and the methods and good habits you are adopting. To anyone feeling depressed, isolated and just down on yourself for any reason, we are here for you! This has been such a hard year but the end is finally in sight in 2021. In the meantime focus on caring for yourself, know you are lovable and can reach your goals with the small decisions you take everyday.
My story is I am 52. At 48 I lost 30lb and was exercising and weight training at least 3 times a week. My #1 Goal was health and to be a good role model for my three teens, especially my 2 girls. I wanted to enter my later life strong, active and healthy. I was feeling great and so proud of myself! My trainer was 65 and she did triathlons! So she was my role model. I had another 5lb to meet my goal weight I was very active and had gone down 2 dress sizes.
In Nov 2017 my 11 yr old son was diagnosed with cancer. He recovered with surgery and no chemo. In June 2018 I was diagnosed with cancer!!! Can you believe it? Within 6 months of each other? I was super healthy and started developing back pain in May. Within 6 weeks I was diagnosed with lymphoma in my spine and bones and could hardly walk. I had to be on bedrest for 6 months while I had chemo.
I am now cancer-free and almost totally recovered. I still am taking some pain killers which I want to come off and my energy is increasing each day. I put on all the weight I lost from sitting around for 2 years! So I am determined to get back to where I was. If I can do it at 48/9 I can do it at 52!!!
My 17 yr old daughter is a Senior and studying at home. She just lost 20lbs under my nose without me noticing as she was wearing sweats each day 😄. So she is making meals for both of us. We are using Blogilates 90 day meal plan. I had never heard of Cassey but apparently she is massively popular. She is younger than us so may not be your thing. Her recipes are great (they were formulated with a dietician) we are doing the 90 day Vegetarian plan but she has options for meat eaters, pescatarians and vegans. Here is the link and you can page down to the bottom to see the options. It's $59 for the 90 day plan with recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks plus shopping lists for the week.

Wow your story is so inspiring and my heartfelt congratulations to you and your son for beating cancer.
My story is somewhat less eventful, but it’s my own story so I carry it proudly.
Happily married for 23yrs and have 3 kids who are all in their teens and twenties now.
One day my mom got sick and 3 weeks later she passed, about a month after that I decided I was going to leave my husband. We had lost the spark and grown apart.
Toughest 5 years of my life . Here I am today, still me sing fences with kids and my heart but happy. Found love again and life is getting better. Even my ex and I are friends. Was heavy after all 3 kids, stayed heavy for years. Too busy to care kind of.
Lost 36 lbs when my mom passed and kept it off for a few years. Found love again and dating and of course that revolves around food and wine. I am back up to be heavier than I was in my unhappy years. So I want to be healthy, active, lose it the right way to keep it off, build an exercise routine that I can stick to and love.
That’s me in a nutshell- just add sarcasm and sense of humour! 🤪🥰6 -

Hello I'm Nicolette, I had a health scare in August and have decided to do something about it. Need to loose a lot of weight but have been walking my 10000 steps a day or bike riding 2 - 3 times a week still a long way to go but must say I'm enjoying the journey. I last weighed this much back in 2001.4

Agreed! I definitely stay away from cheese when losing weight, other than a sprinkling to add flavor occasionally. My husband was so sweet, and brought me tea too, so didn't want to be rude 😄 it wasn't too much either. That became my breakfast and I stayed within my 1200 for the day.

Hi, I would like to join, too. I recently turned 57 and have lost 59 pounds since March 8, 2020. I am a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient. Was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic when I was 26 y.o. but was actually a type 1 diabetic. Over time developed nerve damage in hands, legs, intestinal tract and lost one eye and both kidneys. Was on dialysis for three years before receiving my transplants. Over the three years of dialysis gained 75 pounds on the dialysis diet. After the transplants, was at my heaviest. Decided to lose weight to prolong the life of my transplants. Divorced my husband who was cheating on me and neglected me. Then started lifting weights and walking. Lost 93 pounds at the age of 48/49. Met someone new in 2012. Was proposed to and in 2015 he cancelled the wedding. I became depressed and eventually gained most of the weight back. When covid hit, I decided that it was a great time to work on myself. Have 30-35 pounds left to lose to be at an ideal weight. Currently 6 pounds from a normal bmi. Have found perfection isn't necessary but consistency is. I need to work on eating in social situations as I overeat then due to shyness.8

So many inspiring women here!
A little about me:
This November I turned 60, a milestone marking the end of one decade and the start of another. My 50’s kicked off by my having a hysterectomy and ooperectomy, putting me straight into post menopause enduring hot flashes and all the other stuff that goes along with it. Somehow, I rallied through it, completed my graduate degree in organizational leadership, lost 30 lbs., and felt great. At 55 I started running marathons, finishing 7 over the past five years, and I quit drinking, now coming up on 6 years sober, achievements I’m very proud of. However, all wasn’t well for me personally. I was in a job I hated (a job I once was in love with), my father became ill with terminal cancer, and I got caught up with all the negativity associated with Facebook, packing back on the 30lbs along with some extra. Running no longer controlled the weight, because as one nutritionist told me, “You can’t exercise to overcome a bad diet.”
In April of last year, I retired from my job after 35 years with the company. It was the best decision I made in a long time. After completing my last marathon, I had to stop running, due to chronic injuries I’d been ignoring, losing my “go to” stress reliever, putting me in a very dark and lonely place. This past September, realizing my 60th was approaching, I came face to face with the realization I didn’t love who I’d become. While I’m so fortunate and blessed to have a husband who is so supportive of my goals, I realized I wasn’t going to change myself until I found my way back to loving me again. It was a wake up call I needed, though getting started was hard!
Throughout October, I began journaling again, writing my feelings down along with my dreams. I bought a Dreambook journal from Dragon Apothecary for 2021, and started planning, really planning, what I want 2021 and beyond to be like. November 1 marked bigger changes, as I’ve used my birthday month to focus on learning to love me again, not as a perfectionist, but by becoming the person who truly strives to live the values I claim to aspire to.
This has been hard. It started with severing ties with Facebook, an app I was spending up to 8 hours a day on! Ugh! Like when I quit drinking, that’s been a “one day at a time” achievement, and the benefits have been huge! I’m now sleeping 8 hours a night for the first time in years and I feel I have energy! I also started gratitude journaling, writing down each night all the things that happened during the day I’m grateful for. Along with this I’ve been exercising daily and setting small daily goals, like only eat at mealtimes or trying new exercises. Now I’m working on my diet, eliminating all processed sugars, something that’s been hard to do while helping our son and dil with child care during COVID-19.
Weight wise I haven’t seen much change yet, but I expect that to happen. I look forward to gaining inspiration from this group and hope through our collective journeys we all find the self love and forgiveness needed to make the changes we’re committing to last our lifetimes!
