Beyond Love?

Do you think there is anything beyond love? And what would that feel like?
Feeling love is the highest of highs, but to go beyond it would really be something else.

what else is there after that but marriage I guess

I think what some people call love is just... idk...something that strokes the ego and riles the libido.
I have never really experienced love as that fluttery feeling people describe. To me it feels like duty.6 -
Maybe drugs?4

I don't think you can truly love someone until you have been together for some time and been through the ups and downs of life together and realised that you don't know how you would have coped without each other during those times.
Romantic love is wonderful and exiting but true love is the rock you can cling to when you are drowning.8 -

To continue that thought...when I was drowning...I had to pull myself to safety...im not opposed to real love3 -

Do tell. Can you expound on what you mean by "dying slow"?
Also, per the thread, I would think that true transcendent thought might be "beyond love", but that's pretty hard to achieve and even if you achieve it, I'm not sure many would understand nor comprehend that it actually happened to them.
Like attaining Nirvana, only in thought.2 -

Because I got married and then found out I was the worst sort of person who should've ever gotten married. And every day until it ended was another death.
"Beyond love" doesn't mean much to me either I guess.
The only thing beyond loving someone is dying for them. and honestly that's probably pretty easy if you're not scared of it.
Living for someone is the hard part I think.9 -
I feel like there's a test on Maslow's hierarchy of needs and I need to cram for the test. Transcendence. Is transcendence the answer?! 😵2

I feel like that every day though.
Problem is, I can't tell if it's genuinely true or just my extremely low self-esteem talking.
Wouldn't dying for someone be seen as the ultimate display of love though? Like a parent dying for their child to save them, etc.? I mean, that is a form of love, but I'm not sure if the OP is distinguishing between types of love or if we're just lumping all forms under the same umbrella. I'm just not sure if that goes "beyond" love as it is the ultimate expression of love for a lot of people.
Also, how can I live for someone else when I can barely function and live for myself?2 -

It’s not dying exactly, but it’s kind of like laying down my life every day and trying to do it cheerfully, willingly, and healthfully. It is so hard. And my biggest motivation for getting my *kitten* together. I’m talking about kids here. I have no idea what a healthy “normal“ relationship with another adult is like, let alone one that is beyond love.2 -
There is the concept of a Twin Flame.
This is a romantic love - your soul's companion - which goes beyond a soulmate, of which there can be many, romantic or otherwise. Friends, family, and people that you date can be soulmates or part of your karmic tribe.
A Twin Flame is a lover, a counterpart, that you continue to meet in many guises across different lifetimes. This is the person who will push your soul's evolution the most. With this person you could experience transcendent love.
Of course, you're not guaranteed to meet this person in any one lifetime. If you do, it can be a blessing or a curse, because he/she can give you all the feelings of sublime, karmic, romantic love - state of ecstasy - or tear your ego-self apart.
This is what I know about Twin Flames. Do I believe in this hippy *kitten*?
Maybe.
But I so far I haven't met even met a guy I would trust with my keys, let alone my soul.6 -

The twin flame is a concept narcissistic lovers employ to trick vulnerable people into relationships, btw.
I don't believe in this concept myself, but it's cool if others do. I'd just say be careful because again, it is used by people who are narcissistic to beleaguer and disarm their potential victims.3 -
I was not aware of that. I think of it as part of the New Age movement.1

I was not aware of that. I think of it as part of the New Age movement.
It is part of the New Age movement, but I think some particularly narcissistic New Age types found the concept appealing and adopted it as part of their arsenal of tactics to disarm potential lovers/victims. It was used on me at one point and I've heard from other narcissistic partner survivors that it has been used on them.
Funny thing is that once upon a time, I used to believe in a soulmate and/or twin-flame type scenario (although I never called it by those terms). Life happened, I died inside.. and now I am pragmatic to the core.2 -
Also, am I the only one who keeps wanting to read the title of this thread as "Beyond Meat" as though we're debating meat alternatives? No? Only me... ah well.1

So, I find love everywhere and in everything. My friends and family have stopped making fun of the fact I exclaim "Romantic! 😍" in response to just about any interaction between any two or more people.
Love, to me, is easily attainable and all encompassing. You've always had a firm grasp of it even when you thought you were void of it.
Beyond that would be... multifaceted, unencumbered and untethered joy which allows you, and others you relate with, to experience the feeling equally. Shooting from the hip here so I dunno 🤷🏿♀️
I'm just out here in the world getting ready to meet my Future Husband aka The Last Love of My Life (who will necessarily be encumbered for at least a few years - or decades - until my cufflink issue subsides...maybe)7 -

My narcissist used "kindred spirits". Same deal. Convey unique and somewhat cosmic affinity.
When I think of love beyond the personal interactional level it's probably along the lines of agape. That's still love though.2 -

What a way to take something beautiful and twist it into something ugly.
Must be some of the same people in the pickup culture.
I'm sorry someone did that to you.
I'm gonna have to keep my hippie-dippy version of the idea.4 -

You do that. I don't want to diminish anyone's concepts or beliefs in love (or anything, really). I recognize that I am personally very jaded and have been from a very young age. A lot of that has to do with personal experiences.
But it's nice to know there are people out there who still believe in things like everlasting love, or kindred spirits (in a non-predatory way), or the true essence of love. It's sweet.
I just don't believe I will ever experience it. And that's okay (for me).3 -
I'm also on the fence about "twin flames" I love all that hippy hopeless romantic junk 😂. But I haven't been on the side of someone evil using the term but rather myself maybe mistakenly applying it to a unsuitable match. Kinda falls into that other thread about coincidence. Is it fate tho!?!? 🤷🏻♀️ What do the stars say? What do the Tarrot say? Read my palm. I love that stuff. Some days I believe in it. Some days I just laugh and my strictly logical side tells me that I'm just lost to a dream that I made up to cope.
Though I really felt what a youtuber was saying about how when she was in a relationship with someone who was a "hurt locker" (someone you obsesse over that pushes your psychological buttons) and because she always felt confused about where she stood in the relationship and he wouldn't communicate she turned to the stars. It's kinda obvious when you put it like that. The signs are actually clear that it's not going in the direction that you want so you will find any route to the possibility that this situation could work.
Then again you can't always explain everything. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm always teetering the line of reality and reality 2.0
But to bring the subject back to beyond love. Like, I don't think there is something beyond. My earlier answer of euphoria is probably just another form of love. Love of everything, every sensation.2
