I agree, I never realized just how BRUTAL the cold could be until I started losing weight. Fortunately, for me it's much more closely connected to how many calories I'm eating rather than my actual weight. When I overeat, I warm right up.9 -

Well you won't. You're 10 years older now. I won't look like I did 10 years ago either. Losing weight doesn't make aging go away. But, saying that, better to be in shape NOW. The next best thing to doing it in the past is DOING IT TODAY.
I know... I meant that even at the same weight my body now carries fat differently (I.e. In my middle) so I needed to adjust my goal downwards.
Now if someone can just invent a way to make ageing go away... where's that divine miraculous secret when we need it? Or One Weird Tip?
I might recommend drinking lots of water. A hydrated body is a healthier body! While it won't stop the days, it's great for your skin. Good luck!7 -

When I finally started a couple of years ago, she had just moved to the west coast, and I didn’t see her for several months. I was too embarrassed to tell her I was trying to lose weight. TBH, in case I failed.
By the time I saw her again, I was down about forty pounds. I thought she’d be as excited as I was to see her and show off my weight loss.
To my utter astonishment, she was very upset and came off as “mean”. It hurt my feelings sooooo bad.
It wasn’t til later I learned she thought I was ill and hiding it from her, and also, because I talked so much about eating carefully and was weighing everything, she was worried it would trigger an ED to return- one I never even knew she had. She hid it well.
Sometimes, there’s more going on than “mean”, and even though these are the ones closest to us, we simply don’t have a clue.

Losing weight is so slow for me that I wonder if anyone notices. These days the only people who see me are coworkers. They all have weight challenges and we don’t talk about healthy eating. I notice my weight loss. My face is a little smaller and my clothes are looser. Losing weight even slowly is so worth it!
No one seemed to notice, or at least no one mentioned my weight loss until I reached 30 lbs lost, which is only 10lbs from my goal weight. Slow and steady is more likely to equate to life-long. So just keep on keepin' on17 -

Oh I wish that were true in my case. I only added about 110 calories when I switched to maintenance about 2.5 years ago. I was losing at a slow pace especially towards the end. That's just a little more than ONE of my little tiny pieces of my buttermilk cornbread or one whole wheat buttermilk biscuit.
Of course it's a POUND of raw broccoli, so there's that.
I still come up short on calories some days, but oh boy howdy do they balance against the days I go over; sometimes WAY over. Like 600 calories over yesterday. I enjoyed it.....

I hear what you're saying. I didn't mean to come off smug. I'm still 12 pounds overweight, so taking a maintenance break gives me extra calories. Also I'm having Stockholm syndrome with my diet 55 pounds down, I freaking love what it's done for me, and I surprisingly enjoy big-azz salads for dinner.
Today I had 3 Dutch cookies for breakfast, so it should be easy to make my calorie goal. I just want my hair to bounce back Hopefully that's possible in a 2 week period.7 -
I had weight loss surgery and lost about 190lbs and I had made a commitment to live a healthy life style which included no more alcohol. I noticed since I was no longer the funny fat drunk, many of the people I thought were friends became distant and/or tried to get me to back to my toxic life style. People I grew up with even shied away from me so as not to jeopardize my new lifestyle. I found becoming healthier a difficult road, much tougher than I expected.64

I never realized I had a bouffant. I guess it was to balance my head against my big round body.
I caught an unexpected glimpse of myself in a window and was startled at how big my head and hair now look. Like a giant puff of cotton candy on a little cone or something.
Cartoonish.
I don’t have much hair to work with. Limited options here. I’m lazy and it’s been the same short hairstyle for forty years. Ugh.15 -

Hey man, don't let it get you down. I've had family & friends treat me different too, but eventually, they came around and accepted the new me. If people are trying to drag you back to that toxic life style, then perhaps they weren't really the right kind of friends you want. Just something to think about.19 -

You are too funny! Looks like you need a short sassy Audrey Hepburn doo now. That is the thing about losing weight.. finding a new look in clothes was hard for me.. I never thought about hair until your post!8 -
Men - no 35 inch waist pants in stores - 34 or 36 only. I just bought my first pair of suspenders to avoid both gut strangulation and trouser drop in public. MUST hit 34 inch waist soon...15

Almost 12 years in and still need to watch what I eat. I really thought I'd be on "auto-pilot" by now. This takes constant vigilance, but it is so worth it!36

Laughing here as suspenders mean something quite different in British English, and are not generally worn by men... But I know you mean braces really.

That's okay, he mentioned "pants" too!
Nobody told me, and I'm really kind of annoyed by this, that my weight loss calories would become way too close to my maintenance calories, so unless I start exercising a lot more I'm never going to have that "oh, I'm in maintenance, I get 500 extra calories again" moment.
Blame a small bone structure and being 5' 3".23 -
@Sand_Tiger - yes, that was a big surprise to me too. If I don't exercise, in maintenance I need to eat 100 calories less than I did when I was on a 1000 calories deficit at the start of my weight loss (125 pounds ago). It was my understanding that maintenance would be just like losing except that you get more calories to play with. No one told me that actually, you don't get more calories to play with - unless you earn them through exercise. #whyirun16

Every time I lose weight, I feel like I'm freezing half the time. Also, after a great workout, I'll feel really cold later.
My joint pain level goes down when losing weight, up if gaining. (Inflammation?)

After a few years of all my clothes just barely fitting, everything being way too tight, I have lost all reference to how clothing is actually supposed to fit. How snug is a bra band supposed to be? Is my shirt tastefully loose or laughably oversized? 🤷🏻♀️32

In 1995 I lost a lot of weight and went out dancing (which I love). Being able to dance and be active. For once in my life at the age of 45 I was the popular "girl." Guys were falling head over heels to date me. Funny thing is, I was the same person skinny as I was heavy. I've since gained it back and am trying to loose it. Probably won't be as easy this time. lol People treat you better when you're thin.23

Even just WALKING is easier. I remember over the summer I strapped on some SCUBA weights and went for a walk to try and remind myself what it was like to just do daily activity with even SOME of the extra mass I used to always carry no matter what. My knees hurt half way through the walk.14 -

I feel the same way after exercise. I think it's the sweat evaporating off the skin and taking heat with it.3 -
For me, I didn't think I would be constantly thinking about food (but in a different capacity). It takes a ton of mental energy for me to plan, pre-log, think about groceries and the most nutritious bang for my buck, etc.
While I'm not terribly upset about this because I'm not just thinking about the next bite going into my maw, I was surprised when I realized how much mental time I spend on my health when it's a priority. It really *must* be a lifestyle change to make it stick (for me, anyway).17
