@goal06082021 Yeah, we were joking about the "sunshine state". Still, much better than the highs below zero that we had at home. It was my first time to Florida and it was nice to see all the different types of plants growing there and to see the gulf coast. Just beautiful. I had never seen such white sand before!2

@goal06082021 @kali31337 - Such a good point about us all having different mindsets and behaviors, just the same way we all have different physiology. I'm 100% a moderator when I'm "on the wagon", as long as I'm actively - preferably pre-logging - all my food I can just take a reasonable portion of whatever treat that works for now and put the rest back in the cupboard. When I'm not logging or tracking at all then if I want to eat a whole "share bag" of crisps at 1000cals a go then nothing is going to stop me, besides having to go out and get it!4

Hello all... I'm very new to the community and fresh on my weight loss journey (I've only just logged 7 days in a row haha).
I'll jump in with my cw/ugw etc when the March thread pops up but I wanted to say hello and give thanks to you all for sharing your journeys here... it's super motivating to see y'all working so hard (which means maybe I can too!!).
Sending love and good vibes out to y'all... good luck!!13 -
@jacconcia welcome! I just passed my 100-day streak (today is day 102). You can do it!
@emmclean you're so right about the pre-logging. I feel so functional when I'm able to pre-log an entire day including snacks. It's something I really should have noticed about myself much earlier - I shouldn't have taken nearly as long as I did to figure out meal prepping and pre-logging are so good for me, mentally and physically.
I'm not optimistic about tomorrow's weigh-in. I've been going over pretty much every day this week, sometimes by rather a lot, and I know I've been less active this month compared to January or December. There's no excuse for it, I'm (thankfully) not dealing with any Major Life Crap right now that could reasonably be expected to derail my progress. I think I'll step on the scale tomorrow morning (1) expecting an increase, (2) hoping for maintenance, and (3) being pleasantly surprised if it's a loss.
I *am* pretty excited for next month, though. I've changed up my workout plan to something that will be a LOT more fun than the "28-day beginner challenge" I pulled from runtastic for this month. Gonna do 30 minutes of Ring Fit Adventure, story mode on Tuesdays and Saturdays and minigames/focused sets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (legs/arms+abs/yoga respectively). Thursday mornings I now have about 5 hours between waking up and heading out to work, so I'm going to use that time to get in a nice long walk outside - there's a beautiful park about 10-15 minutes from my house with some lovely walking trails. A couple years ago I was wandering around there regularly a few times a week, then my work schedule changed and I wasn't able to get out there as much, so I'm glad I now have that kind of room in my schedule again.6 -
@goal06082021 What is Ring Fit Adventure- story mode?
1 -
@goal06082021 @kali31337 @emmclean I am totally an abstainer. If it is in the house, I can hear the siren call saying "i'm here, you want me, come get me" until I have to silence that voice with my mouth!!! I admire moderators more than you can know. The freezer is a help, I will admit.6
-
@spotteddingo Ring Fit Adventure is a video game for the Nintendo Switch console, where you fight monsters by exercising at them and save the world with the power of fitness, LOL. It uses controllers strapped to your leg and a Pilates ring to detect your movements, count reps, give you feedback on form, etc. There's a story mode, where you exercise to advance the plot (jog in place to move through the level, do various bodyweight moves to fight the monsters), as well as several mini-game modes where you can do different activities to target specific areas of the body. It's a lot of fun, if you have access to a Switch I highly recommend it. The music and character design are excellent, but that's like Nintendo's whole thing, so of course it is.3
-
@goal06082021- I thought it had to do with the Switch. My daughter was talking about that this week. It sounds like a fun way to get some exercise and something my daughter and husband might enjoy, too! I will look into it! Thanks.1
-
Some things I'm a moderator and others I'm a total abstainer. But some things for months I can moderate and then a mood switch occurs and there goes the rest of whatever. I don't keep most things such as sweets or chips in the house most of the time though. I do allow things if I'm having it away from the house. If I really want something I'll plan it into the calories and work around that or plan to be higher that day.
I'm doing the happy scale dance today. Scale is going back down again. I've been used to fluctuations for a few days but don't think I really had seen a full week+ of the scale continuing to go up each day even though I was doing things in line. That was a tough one.7 -
Really depressing day for me. I moved here with my daughter and grandchildren to Guam from the US a few months ago. I am disabled and was planning on applying for SSI here in Guam, but found out I cannot get it here on the islands. This was a big blow for me because I have always been financially independent and I now have to rely on my daughter. I ask for very little but have asked her to purchase healthy food for me because she does not eat healthily. She did buy a few things a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't much and is gone. I applied for food stamps over two months ago and should be receiving them so I could at least make some of my own food choices, but human services here does not follow the law when it comes to processing applications, nor do they answer the phone or respond to emails. It is necessary to go there in person and raise hell to get them. My daughter has been promising me repeatedly to go and get it resolved but she never does. Today I asked her if she would please pick me up a loaf of thin-sliced 21-grain bread but she refused, stating it was too expensive. I would be understanding if I didn't watch here constantly go to fast food places, buy cigarettes and soda etc. I realize it is her money to do with as she chooses but at the same time I do babysit my grandchildren so it's not like I am not contributing. I feel as if this is a control issue and it is very hurtful. I now find myself having to starve myself to stay within my goals since there are no healthy food choices in the house. It is just very depressing and very discouraging. We also buy bottled water since the tap water is iffy and I am being limited on how much I can drink of that per day. I am allowed 2 water bottles so about 32 ounces. Her boyfriend and she are making good money so that isn't the issue. I am sorry this is sooo long for anyone who took the time to read this, I just really, really need to vent. I don't want to give up and throw in the towel so I'm trying to clear my mind. Thanks for listening.

Just wrote a big post and instead of pressing post reply I hit done and exited the forum.
So a brief summary of what I did write.
Age 33
Height 167cm (5’5”)
SW 107.5kg (236.9lbs)
CW 99.6kg (219.5lbs)
GW for Feb 99.9kg (220.2lbs)
UGW 75kg (165lbs)
Loss for the week -0.9kg (-1.9lbs)
Despite the awful start to the week I’ve managed to not only lose weight, I’ve also managed to reach my goal for the month.
Missing my daily runs terribly since my treadmill stopped working.
Can’t believe we’re almost done with February.6 -
It's Friday weigh-in time!
Age: 29
Height: 5'3"
Original SW: 252.8 lb as of 11/13/2020
Month SW: 243.8 lb as of 1/29/2021
Weigh-in Progress:
2/5: 243.1
2/12: 241.4
2/19: 239.8
2/26: 239.8
GW for February: 238 lb
GW for 2021: 196 lb
Well, ladies, looks like it's not gonna happen for me this month. That's OK. I'm just glad to see maintenance and not an increase. It would be nuts to expect a loss given how much I've gone over budget this week, so I'm not disappointed about that...well, I am, but disappointed in myself for snacking too much, not disappointed that my body didn't magically burn extra calories without me having to do anything. Like I said yesterday, I'm expecting those numbers to start going down again next month, probably.
I'm going to take body measurements this weekend. I took measurements at the end of January and decided to make that a monthly thing, in addition to the weekly weigh-in. I remeasured myself for a bra at the beginning of January, so I have some data to compare; of course I didn't think to take measurements on Day 1 in November, but I do have BWH measurements from when I was wedding-dress shopping back in August, so I have some kind of baseline for comparison.7 -
@mumof6sv OMG, I do that ALL the time. The app is terrible, I much prefer to access the forums on the desktop site. Great job this month!3

My girlfriend went to the doctor yesterday because of the sebaceous cyst on her back that will need removal at some point. (They said, wait till it starts to fill up again, then call us and we'll take it out.) She was weighed, came home and said, "I'm dying. Things have to change. I HAVE to go to the gym and start moving, regardless of COVID risk." So we are going to get up and go together every morning, and while I shove and pull weights, she is going to get in the pool and walk around. It's not a big start, but she weighs 443 pounds and has a ruptured disk giving her sciatica, so this is a beginning she can do.
And she'll help me. I'd been staying out of the gym for her sake; I didn't want to bring COVID home to her. But if she's going, then I'll go, and needing to take her will get me there even on the days where I don't "feel like" doing anything.
(I have exercise intolerance, so what I have to do is do very low-stress exercise every single day and stop when my heart rate increases or I feel it at all in the muscles. That way I can sort of sneak in the fitness without triggering a bout of exhaustion or a flare.)6 -
Been a little under the weather this past week (and lost my logging streak), was just tired. I'm feeling better now and back at the gym. However, I'm going to give it a week before daring to step on scale.9

Friday Weigh-in
Feb 26: 204.4 - Down 1.6 lbs
Thoughts:
It was a good week and nice to see progress. I think the additional fruits and veggies paid off. I know the model is a long as one eats within their allotted calories, they will lose weight, but I don't just want to lose weight. I really want to be healthy. So, for me that means eating more fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes and nuts. I want to reduce - not eliminate - my intake of processed vegetarian meatless products, which I plan to challenge myself to do this upcoming week. Finally, I want to continue consistently exercising and drinking my water.
I have a lot of life left to live, and I want to be able to enjoy it to the fullest.
Hoping March will be a success for all of us!4 -
@BethWallace1 Definitely praying for you. It's obvious you are frustrated and seemingly discouraged, and that's understandable. Hang in there.
@mumof6sv Been there for that... more than once. It's so annoying. Congrats on your loss though. You're on fire!
@goal06082021 Good job maintaining! Although you may have went over your daily goals, you obviously didn't go crazy. That's worth mentioning. I think I'll measure myself too. I haven't done that in forever, and it can be a great motivator when the scale is not cooperating.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Enjoy your time at the gym and just be safe. You and your friend encouraging one another along the way will help I'm sure. It's great to have that support.
@IsETHome So glad you're feeling better. May the scale be friendly to you when the time comes.
@pamiede Luck is for leprechauns. All you need is will power and determination. You've got this. Congrats on reaching goal number one!4 -
@pamiede Congratulations on achieving your goal, and so much more actually!! Your strength and perseverance are inspiring to me and I'm sure to other ladies following your posts xoxo2

Just finished midterms and they were brutal!! I was able to keep up with my workouts during midterms week, which is huge for me. Eating deteriorated a little with stress and all, but, surprisingly, I stayed within my goals (most days). Passed all exams, so resting up this weekend and doing basic chores like boiling and filtering my water and doing laundry. My plans this weekend are to get in my workouts (including at least 1 hr of yoga or pilates or stretching) and steps and lay on the couch to watch the hobbit or lord of the rings trilogy and sleep anytime I feel it coming on!!
I know I have missed a lot of posts over the last few weeks, but, I hope everyone is doing okay and remaining safe and healthy!! See you in the March thread!!
@speyerj and @KeriA You were both right. Thank you!!9 -

Thursday I got my 2nd vaccination. I was supposed to get it last Sunday but the extreme weather events here and over the country delayed the shipments of vaccines and my appointment was cancelled then rescheduled. It isn't till the next day that you can have side effects besides maybe a sore arm. I woke up feeling fine yesterday (Friday) had our Friday breakfast except instead of Starbuck's my youngest picked up at another bakery espresso place. I had told work I was going to start the day late because I wanted to sleep in. I had to leave work early the day before to get the vaccine at 5 PM. If I get enough sleep I don't get sick so I felt my body needed the extra sleep to deal with the vaccine. Then I went to work in my home office. I worked until almost 1 PM. However I realized I was got tired more easily and just a bit light headed. So I decided to take a break at lunch. I had little appetite but felt just a teeny bit nauseated so I had a cup of broccoli cheese soup which helped. Then lay down to rest a bit. I started to get chills. So after a while I went down and let work know I was calling it a day. I already saw a response from my boss to my earlier message to consider calling it a day so that made it easier to do.
I wasn't really hungry for dinner last night but had some of the chicken pho that my family had gotten for me. None of us touched the Bahn Mi (Vietnamese subs). My husband knew I wasn't up to par when I refused jalapenos in the pho. We both went to bed early. He had more side effects than I did he felt fuzzy headed and also got chills. I think that is because he didn't sleep in and worked a normal busy day. Today he had a slight headache and took tylenol. I am feeling good today but then I haven't been up for long. My arm isn't as sore. I think if I overdo it I might get a small headache. My husband went back to sleep so I think that will be good. So far I have escaped the side effects I was dreading. My sister and her husband had none but they had the Pfizer. We had Moderna. So I am taking it easy this weekend. The other side effect is that I had no appetite for most of the day yesterday so I lost 2.2 lbs. I suspect my appetite is back today. So I will have to watch out to not eat too much.
I decided to separate my check in from my weekly update. I had a good week. I got 3 days of exercise with 2 of those being strength training. I didn't exercise on the day I got the vaccine or the day afterwards so I exercised on the days I could. I am finding that those strength training sessions are taking less time so I need to do more of each exercise or get on the Gazelle later in the day. When we go for walks during the day we may or may not have time for a longer walk. So I am having trouble increasing how long I exercise. I kept my calories down except that we decided to get pizza take out on the way back from getting our vaccinations and I was hungry by then. But I was still under my calorie goal even so. I did pretty well with water this week. Yesterday water was what I wanted the most. I am actually finishing my latte from yesterday right now. You can see that due to the vaccine we had take out more than the one time but I did plan our food and we had meals at home and have groceries to make meals at home but with the vaccination we weren't up for much cooking. I think we will be fine from now on.
The take away is that getting enough sleep really helps. It helps weight loss. It helps when you are sick. It helps keep you from getting sick. It helped my body deal with the vaccine. I am really glad my husband is sleeping now after such a challenging week. And water helps as well. Get those 2 things down then add the calories and exercise.5 -

I hope you are now fully recovered from your vaccine. Adequate sleep is a HUGE issue for me. I rarely sleep more than 2 hours without waking up. I would so love to be able to get 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I know how important it is, but my body just doesn't seem to want to cooperate.2 -
Hi! I am new to the community forums. At my highest weight on December 11, 2020, I was 315 pounds. I started working on eating healthier around New Year's after spending the holidays stuck at home due to everyone in my house (including myself) having COVID. Since December 11th I have dropped 26 pounds. I don't have a goal weight in mind right now.9

Hi all!
First time on here after having read and loved this thread for the past week.
Age 30
Height 5’6”
SW 222.1 (Feb 21)
CW 213.5
Feb GW 212
UGW 170 (and then evaluate)
After years of disordered eating and starving myself to stay at 112lbs I put away the scale at 22 and pursued health. Before too long, my disordered eating habits swung the other way and I found myself gaining weight rapidly. From my best guess, I gained the first 50 pounds over 4 years (and was a healthy size 8-10). A stressful job caused me to gain the next 50 in just 2 years, which was not healthy. I’ve maintained my weight for the last two years, adding in exercise during lockdown. I’m determined to get back to a healthy weight - and to do it in a healthy way. MFP is so great for me because, with my disordered eating patterns, it helps me make sure I’m not swinging one way (and eating very little) or the other (and eating way too much).
Love the encouraging vibes in this group! Let’s keep on fighting!7 -
@starlite19 Pick a few achievable steps and concentrate on them. With success at them take on another achievable @starlite19 Pick a few achievable steps and concentrate on them. With success at them take on another achievable step. Build slowly one success at a time. Be sweet to yourself.
@peasonlinda30 You can also click on quote below their post to copy it and respond to it. You will not see their posts on home unless you are friends. I am good with technology but each website is different in how it works. Good progress this month and with some extra challenges.
@BeastlyMaple I weigh daily too. I haven’t thought about having a weekly weight. I put my weight etc on a spreadsheet and can see my averages. I am the type of person that would probably use my low for the week You are doing so well. Walking your dog and yoga daily is so great.
@WasteNotWench congrats on exceeding you goals for the month.
@KMC55 Have you ever given yourself a break from eating at a deficit? You have made progress but are struggling now. What if for 2 weeks you eat at maintenance and come up with food plans each day that have something you really like in them but still maintain. We need to find a sustainable way of eating for the rest of our lives. Most of also need breaks from eating at a deficit. I have actually lost weight by eating more but that was when I was exercising more and had been not eating enough given my activity level. You might find that when you go back to a deficit you lose easier and you may be able to find a food plan that gives you some joy each day even while eating at a deficit so that it is sustainable in the long run and will help you when you have reached your goal to find a way of eating where you can maintain that weight.
@kali31337 and @ goal0682021 I was an abstainer but I am finding I am learning slowly to be a moderator. I made a snack mix for myself recently and had some success moderating it. I haven’t had the urge for making another mix yet. I asked my husband to get me a lot of dark chocolate squares because I find I don’t eat more than one or two usually. However I have more challenge with somethings than others.
@MuttiNM Wow! you are so close to goal. I was looking at your listing of weight loss and was so impressed then I looked over to see who was posting and said to myself of course this is MuttiNM. I love how your son and you went hiking/biking and you found a way to do it safely and a place where the weather was more conducive to getting out. I am wondering about your original weight. I do not think I have one of those. It wasn’t until after my second pregnancy that I had trouble with my weight and was over 200 lbs. I have a ultimate goal of 150 but I know that I used to weigh between 127- 137 before getting pregnant. I got down to 137 lbs after my first child and was getting compliments. However I am older now. I really just want to be healthy.
@Spotteddingo and @goal06082021 Thanks for asking the question. I was wondering about that too. It does sound fun. I think my youngest would like it.
@sarah12277 glad you are happy with the scale this week!
@BethWallace1 I think that getting the food stamps will help a lot. However I would want a little income of my own so I can see why this feels so depressing. Don’t give up. It might be helpful to figure out what your daughter would have to pay for childcare and what the cost of room and board is for you. Childcare here is very expensive. She owes you the difference but then maybe in Guam it is different. I would do it for yourself. I know my sister babysits her grandkids for free but her son and daughter in law don’t take it for granted. They appreciate the help and my sister knows how expensive child care is. It is a very frustrating situation and I am so sorry that you have to deal with it. Yes I hope you can find a way to get that sleep in and I hate that you are limited with water. I think I won’t take it for granted anymore.
@mumof6sv Great job reaching your goals.
@goal06082021 you are close and although you go by weekly check-ins there are a few days left to the month.
@IsETHome glad you are feeling better.
@pamiede Wow and Yay you met your goal! And under such hard circumstances. You are an inspiration. You have a lot of healing to do so take the weight loss slowly. However I admire you for setting a new goal. Lots of good wishes!
@Laughter_Girl Everyone is saying fruits and vegetables and I need to take note. I do have them and like them but I could definitely go further. One thing I do is substitute half of many of my carbs with cauliflower either riced or just cubed depending on what it is. I love my mashed potatoes and cauliflower more than I did just potatoes. They are lighter and have more flavor.
@uyister Nice progress and nice job holding in there despite a frustrating scale. I always find @speyerj input helpful.
@wendyswords4240 Welcome. This thread has been very helpful to me. Sorry you all got Covid 19 but so glad you made it through that.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
