Sorry I didn’t post goals this morning. The day escaped 😊. Thank you for the congratulatory messages on meeting my weight loss goal. I suspect the hard work now begins! It’s so tempting to give in to every temptation and so much easier to justify the indulgences 😊. There’s a slippery slope ahead .....

@jeschepp - I think you had every right to be concerned. Not just for yourself but for your grandparents. I have learned there are some things I just don't discuss with some people because they can be so judgemental. I'm glad you had a friend that had your back.

@pridesabtch - Sorry V has to have injections, hopefully it helps her. Could the teary mood be related to the thyroid too? I remember teaching my daughters to drive, there were some drives that I'm sure I sprouted greys right on the spot!

@mytime6630 - I was thinking today that I need to get my clothes on and go for a small walk. I was warned to take it slow to build up my hips again.

I was so busy from the minute I walked in the door at work yesterday until I left that I didn't get a chance to post, my thought was to post last night but my friend really needed to have a chat, so I chatted with her for 2 hours. I did have my goals in mind though and managed to keep them.

    Scale goals
    End of 2017: 174.6
    End of 2018: 189.2
    End of 2019: 196.4
    End of 2020: 187.4
    Today: 190.2

    Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut
    1. Purchases: Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding. Go to used bookstore and look for On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, or Robert Adams), The Secret Adversary (Christie).
    2. E2: What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Need practice with the difference between transitions and overlapping (at end of paragraph - "another issue is Y" vs "there are other issues besides X"). Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts. Confusion between everyday / every day and similar constructions.
    3. E1: Need practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Difficulty using possessive nouns in their own writing. Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me). Poetry: Revise "Songs are Poetry" handouts.
    4. Curriculum Development: Writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. How long should each unit take? Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Include grammarly check on essays! Review assessments. What is the purpose for each unit? What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Write 1 reflection weekly; type one in Classroom by Weds. Copy-paste to discussion board for comments due Friday. Homework: Online journal Mon due Tue; Reflection Tue due Wed; C&P journal in class Wed; Comments Thu due Fri. Bonus if you are the first response; further bonus if you respond to comments on your post. Grammar practice Mon & Wed; quiz Fri. Unit plan for research (Idea for regular: comparing same story on sites with different biases).
    5. Professional Development: Write blog post weekly. Comment on 3 posts each week - Tu Th Sun? Check with PSC. Talk with Z about articles and/or conference proposals.
    6. Medical: Dentist call to schedule cleaning – March? ObG schedule for April. Schedule PCP for May.
    7. Theater: Little Princess.
    8. House: Siding. Or perhaps bathroom floor.
    9. Fun: Open beading on Thursdays. Coloring at library on Tuesday. Put jewelry away. Edney Hack Nights alt Weds. ASL? Spanish/Portuguese practice? Practice piano. ROL Secret Adversary. Buy bike rack for car.
    10. Volunteering ideas: Theater. Library. Animal shelter. Community Kitchen. Emerge Georgia training.
    11. Family: Book group. Dinners?
    12. Writing: Blog post: Running, Racism and Rum: Learning to Handle Discomfort. Fanfic: Create a scene list for the Batgirl story. Finish the cafe scene for the Titans story. Open Wordpress in Safari.
    13. Lifting: 15 squats, 15 deadlifts, 10 shoulder presses, 15 arm raises, 15 pushups, 30 crunches, 15 side lifts, 15 back kicks, horse stance for 5 breaths.
    14. Other: Practice hair braiding with D. Check on appts for drs. Remind D to ask his dad about the table and check with home repair contractors. 3 posts/week? Create test for MLA format. Create test for infographics and visual information. Remember that M does not like surprises! Check dates of classes and update semester plan. She Should Run vision statement. Update standards on board. When to change bulletin board?

WFTY: Persistence. Didn't quite get ALL the grading done. The evening slowed me down a LOT. But all the late work is done and I'm feeling confident.
Reminder: Last year's WFTY was progress, and I am ... actually, I was going to say content, but it's more than that. I'm proud of myself, and I'm pleased with the progress that I made. Even without the challenges throughout the year, I accomplished things that I should be proud of; and given those challenges, I'm even happier about what I was able to do.

I swear I posted last night! Didn't I? I was pretty tired so I think I just read comments and then closed the laptop lol. Ah well, it's the weekend! I think this will be a wash week due to high stress and some slips with healthy habits. It's going to happen and that's part of the process. I just need to be proud of the steps I did take and that I am getting back on track. I did make one genius revelation-foam rolling! If anyone else struggles with super sore muscles after workouts I highly recommend it!

meet all serving recommendations for 5 food groups ✅

@bex953172 Thank you for the kind words about my family stress. I agree, usually I enjoy being the outsider so I am not involved in all of the dysfunction, but sometimes it’s hard to feel like the outsider in my own family. I appreciate the understanding!

@snowflake1968 Thank you! I appreciate you hearing my perspective. I usually remember to be guarded with my family but some days I slip and then quickly get reminded. I agree, my priority should my the health of my grandparents (and me!) and not the opinions of others.

I just forgot to post yesterday as I wasn't online much. I'm very happy that I've finally had my roof repaired, fingers crossed no more leaks. Then I spent the afternoon pottering in the garden, with my grandson and his 2 dogs following me around. It's lovely but I find it very hard on my back, so annoying to have to sit and rest it, makes me feel old!
So I didn't get to walk as that was enough for my back, never mind, I enjoy spending time in the garden.

Today will be much the same

    JFT Saturday 3rd April

    Eat sensibly, under maintenance
    Back exercises
    Walk?
    Or outside jobs
    Laundry

There will be no Easter eggs as I don't buy them for myself, so hopefully it being Easter won't cause any diet damage.

This week has been busy, but I’ve been sticking at it. We are now allowed to meet in groups of 6 in private gardens, so we delivered birthday gift to DEGS who has been working from home and hasn’t been able to see family since Christmas. Hoping to be able to meet with DED and DYGS over Easter.

Both my girls (they’re in their 50s) got their first jab this week

So Friday was good, I was just over in calories I think, but I had exercised most of them back. Although I wasn't entirely convinced by the MFP calories burnt by cleaning (they seemed too high)

Yesterday was a rubbish. I barely ate anything in the day and then had a takeaway with Ash, so realistically I could be within my calories but there was no nutritional info for the food and I couldn't even begin to guess.
But I also went for a walk yesterday for about maybe 50 mins.
    Didn't reach 10k steps though.

So today I'm going to have a more structured day. (hopefully)

    - 8 waters
    - Log all food
    - Exercise
    -

    ____

On an unrelated topic, Im having a very hard time getting the kids to listen to me. To the point where I feel they shouldn't be getting their eggs.
Ive even warned them as a punishment that they will not be receiving their eggs.

They just don't listen, to anything I say, and it's really upsetting.

All I've asked for is a bit of quiet at some points in the day (especially in the morning) and that's just because their play always involves lots of high pitched screaming and then some one always gets hurt, then they start whacking each other.

Or if it's quite play like jigsaws or colouring they then all start fighting over that.

And then just to tidy their mess. They watched me clean all downstairs, I went upstairs for 5 mins and it was a mess again.

But they just don't seem to listen, marley doesn't even seem to care (when telling her off as she was going to her room for time out, she said "can't hear ya, not listening"

It took me all my self control to not really flip out.

Basically all the kids are pushing every button down and if they keep taking the mick they're going to get a reaction they won't like
Is it unfair of me to take their eggs away if they continue this today?

Ive said today that this is their last chance to earn back their easter eggs. But Im not sure how to even implement that.

    @ZizzyBumble - 🎈🎉🎈CONGRATULATIONS 🎈🎉🎈 on reaching maintenance.
@jeschepp - I know that feeling of not being heard. You are definitely NOT being disrespectful. Too many people are ignoring the whole picture in their eagerness to get back together.
@pridesabtch - (((hugs))) The thyroid mets kick in fairly quickly. DH has to have his levels checked and adjusted regularly.
    @Bex953172 - You've done brilliant lately.

Well Bex as far as the kids go that is really tough. I’d just counsel not to threaten to do things you aren’t willing to do. I’m not sure how you do eggs there, here they don’t come from the parents, but the Easter Bunny so mum couldn’t threaten for them not to get them. However, mom could take them and put them up until they could show they earned it. You have to give them a clear way to earn them though. Not a vague be good, but rather something specific. Maybe in the morning, I’m going to set a timer for 1 hour, and I want this to be a quiet time. If you can do that you will earn back your eggs. Just an opinion, but I have learned over the years not to threaten unless I was going to go through with it. They learn you mean business, and don’t give unlimited threats, tell them twice what the punishment will be if they don’t behave, then do it. Time out can be effective, but they have to not enjoy it. When I first tried time out, I sent the girls to their room, but they just played so it wasn’t much of a punishment. Instead they had to sit in the living room until their time was up. If they got rowdy I stopped the clock until they settled down. Once they settled we talked. I’ll warm you this can be an ugly process especially with strong willed children, but you are in control.

That being said, every family is different, and every kid has a currency. When you find it, life will get easier. My oldest daughter hates solitude so time out worked great. My youngest likes being alone so time out was less effective. For her privacy was her thing. I once got so fed up and angry that I removed her door. She didn’t think I would do it, but soon learned mom means what she says. No matter what after the punishment have a time of bonding and love, once the punishment is over let it go.

Just my two cents. Of course I’ve not slept and it’s 5:44am, so I might have rambled a bit.

Today Sierra has her first regatta of the season. We have to be there at 8:30, and it will only be 25F outside, brrrr. Can you say layers? I always look forward to seeing her row, and the team has a heated tent to sit in between races. The event itself lasts from 10:00am to 2:15pm. Then she is going on her first date ever. I’m so excited for her, it’s only going to get up to 55F, and their plan is to go fishing. My guess is they’ll get cold and quit early maybe go for a late lunch. Anyway, I should get plenty of steps in today trying to stay warm!

Yesterday was an okay day, I accomplished my goals, but adjusting to the new earring window is tough when the extended family dinner is much earlier than I’m used to earlier than I’m used to eating. Means I have longer before bed and more time to get snacky. I managed though. I’m proud of me for that.

Didn’t sleep well last night and finally just got up at 5:00am. Combination of things, when the up my thyroid meds this tends to happen. Also I’m kind of excited to watch my girl row.

    JFT Saturday

    - Layer up
    - Be at boathouse by 8:30
    - Walk to the coffee shop while kids get ready to race.
    - Watch races and walk about
    - Go Easter shopping for the girls. They are older, but they are still my babies!
    - Log foods
    - Eat better 11:00 - 8:00.
    - Bed by midnight.

Happy day y’all! Make yourselves proud today!

No that's great, yeah we have the Easter Bunny, we have some eggs they can see so from like Grandparents and 1 each from us. The rest are hidden which are from the Easter bunny. I don't really get them much because my MIL does a massive Easter Basket every year which takes a lifetime get through.

So far I've put a list of rules up? It needs tweaking but will do for today.
And then a chart, with ticks for good behaviour and crosses for bad. So far Sask is responding to it the best with no crosses. Marley and Casey have a mixture.

Youre right, a lot of the time i don't follow through because I give up. So I guess I've caused this problem all myself. But thanks very much for your tips.

Tbh I was really hoping you'd reply because your children sound so amazing with every thing they achieve and it just makes me think you've done a real good job raising them! If my children turn out as half as good as yours I'd be proud :)

Thanks Bex, they are good kids, but there are also battles I gave up on. If you saw my youngest daughters room you’d be blown away by the mess. I just decided not to argue it every day. She straightens it up a bit on the weekend, but you still can’t see the floor. Too many fights for too little reward.

I also once forgot my kid at child care. I was all the way home when they called me. Oops!

Well my room was the exact same when I was younger. Floor-drobe was the term that got used for it in the end haha

I always resisted my parents nagging (I was calling it an organised mess because in all fairness I knew where everything was haha) in the end I got fed up of it. And tidied it up at times.

Forgot month end measurements this week, so did this morning. ACK!!! Wake up call that I can't keep "comfort" eating and evening snacking when I'm alone. Realized by looking at dates, all started when BIL's illness worsened in Jan. and he passed so quickly. Changes start today.

@Bex953172 and @pridesabtch I love reading about your girls. We don't have kids, but I grew up oldest of 5 kids, and hubby was youngest of 6. Brings back lots of fond memories, even when they included misbehavior and punishment. BTW my parents always carried through on threats of punishment. We knew punishment would be dealt, and we were never given multiple warnings. I still love my family dearly!

Easter will be a quiet day at home with hubby, after early church service, no family gatherings yet. I'm a little sad b/c Easter has always been the holiday for my parents, siblings & their families to come from out of town to our house for dinner and sitting around the table talking and playing games. This is two years running that we can't gather. But I'm making the traditional dinner anyway for hubby and me. It's still a holiday. Hubby and I even picked out a movie for us to relax and watch together. New memories with my love.

    2021 Goals:
    1) Weight 150#
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    3) Post weekly weigh-in on JFT for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I peek occasionally other days. My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    4) Take measurements & log on MFP every month end ~ remember this year! ~ 1.31.21 ~ 2.28.21 ~ 4.3.21
    5) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x) ~ mostly walking but include weights/circuit & other x-training
    6) Participate in race or challenge events even if virtual ~ started MapMyWalk You Vs. Year 1021K on Jan. 1 / virtual 50 Mile Frenzy 11.27.20 - 1.15.21 (replaced Frenzy on the Fox for Jan. 2021) 50.37 miles 12.17.20 and completed 97.44 miles total / Tour de Northeast WI virtual challenge: cover distance from Oshkosh to Gills Rock (139 miles) 1.1.21 - 3.31.21 ~ completed distance on 3.21.21 / 30/45 Build to Bellin virtual challenge 30 min. activity for total of 1,350 min. in 45 days 3.1.21 - 4.15.21
    7) Be considerate and loving to hubby and have fun together ~ excellent goal last year that should be repeated
    8) Make efforts to keep in touch with parents, siblings and friends (most live in other towns or states) ~ had this goal in 2020 and how ironic
    9) Declutter bedroom, home office and basement ~ made good progress in 2020 & want to keep it up
Word for 2021: Gratitude ~ be mindful of & appreciate my many blessings

Weekly Weigh-In = When I'm active I eat back calories. My weaknesses: I love food... my sweet tooth, especially chocolate... portion control... FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I peek occasionally other days. My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale. No goal dates set ~ this is not a diet but my lifestyle.

@littleblackskirt - I can empathize with the back pain. It’s a tricky thing to keep healthy and pain free.

@bex953172 - I’m sorry the girls are causing such frustration. I personally never really liked or used the threat of taking special holiday treats and stuff away. I just never had the heart to do it and fought my husband if he tried it. I did though, threaten that Santa didn’t come to a dirty house. It had them help me clean and help keep it clean. Have you tried separating them for activities to get some quiet time? One has to colour in the kitchen, while one works on a puzzle in the other room and the other in another? They probably get tired of each other from time to time. Raising children is a thankless job until they have children of their own.

My youngest cleaned from birth it seemed, she needed that order and control. My eldest was terrible, I gave up on that too at about age 12. I did strictly stick to no dishes or food in the rooms though because I was fearful of what she would leave behind.

@cschmitz110515 - I need to do the measurements too, and frankly I’m scared to.
We are not doing Easter either. We had Thanksgiving in October but that was it last year. I’ve told my girls that the minute we’re allowed I was having a party to celebrate with balloons, streamers and the whole bit.

I think today that I’m going to go buy treats for the Grands to drop off.

    Have a great day

I suppose I wouldn't normally, but it's the only leverage I got right now for a quick turn around in behaviour.
I have tried separating them, Saskias okay going to chill in her room, she likes reading a lot so it's a quiet space for her.
Marley can never decide what to do and Casey tries to get involved in both their activities and then they get annoyed at that sometimes.

This chart has helped you know, it definitely needs work in terms of house rules. But Saskias been the best behaved today with the most ticks, Marleys done okay with a fair amount of ticks and a couple of crosses, and Casey has been just as good as Saskia and got as many ticks as her, but she's also got like 5 bad ones! Making her the naughtiest too

Saskias very helpful with cleaning, she'll do anything we ask and sometimes does stuff off her own back and gets rewarded for that. Casey is getting a lot better, the other day without asking she grabbed a bag and started collecting any bits of rubbish around the house (just because I started cleaning)
Marley doesn't clean anything, she ways says she's too tired, her legs hurt, shea got a headache, there's too much to do.
But if you let her do it by herself, she'll do it? But doesn't want any help but sometimes she just doesn't do it. So it's hit and miss with her.

I think the best thing is that I don't have to shout at them, for anything, I just have to say "right I'm putting on a cross" and they know they've done wrong and I'm. Not happy.

It's like magic. Why has this took me 7 years? 😂

    7. Evening: Clois action scene. Dinner: Meat loaf?
    8. Drink more water. No, more. Keep the pitcher in the fridge full. You're not actually hungry. Make some tea. Drink more water! Chop celery and pack lunch. Set out clothes for tomorrow. Set up JFT for tomorrow.
    9. Shower. Review papers by desk. File or trash.
    10. Gratitude journal. Therapy exercises: crunches, push-ups, squats, ankle lifts, box jumps, plank. Meds. Floss, rinse, brush teeth. Wed book group. MH Monday check-in; Tough Question Tuesday; Whatever Wednesday AMA; Thankful Thursday. Indochino suit fitting - Atlanta or Nashville?

    Scale goals
    End of 2017: 174.6
    End of 2018: 189.2
    End of 2019: 196.4
    End of 2020: 187.4
    Today: 192.2

If I do not EEEEEEAT LESS I will not LOSE WEIGHT. Ugh.

It was glorious here in MN today, up to 70 degrees! I have been taking more breaks from running, and focusing on strength training and recovery. Well something is working because I had my best run yet today! Not necessarily fastest or farthest, but definitely the strongest. The common sense advice holds true: start slow, listen to your body, and take breaks! Got to sneak into my sister's house tonight to help hide Easter Bunny goodies for my nephews-so fun! I'll be heading over for a small family meal tomorrow. Everyone will be vaccinated and we still usually do masks and distancing since my mother is older.

    Sunday 4 April

@Bex953172 Being a parent to 3 small girls must be very challenging at times. It looks like you had some good advice and found a solution. My mum told me that she was very cross with my dad when she overheard me telling my younger brother “you don’t have to do what daddy says but you do need to do what mummy says”. If she said something she meant it and it was back in the days when parents would give a slap! When I wouldn't keep my bedroom even remotely tidy, she removed every ornament and unnecessary item until I kept the remaining items tidy then reintroduced the ornaments etc. one by one. I’m still have an untidy bedroom!

@pridesabtch I home Sierra’s race and date go well. Today my husband and I celebrate the 38th anniversary of our first date. 🍾

I’ve finished my sweater and will post a photo later.

    Hey everyone.
    Easter got cancelled here.

Everything was going well, they all earned enough ticks and they were well happy. I said right the last test is bedtime. And they F'd it right up.
3 hours I spent trying to get them to go to bed, after 2 hours (I'd lost my cool at this point) I took in an Easter egg and said "Get in bed now, or I'm stomping on this egg" (and yes I was fully prepared to do it) and guess what.. They just didn't stop.
So one egg got it. Got it bad aswell.

And.. They still didn't stop. They actually started playing a game called Smash The Egg.

I feel like an utter failure, in every possible way. 😭😭😭

So I've just said no eggs today. I feel like the worst parent. But they just don't deserve it.
What am I supposed to do?

Bex, you are not a failure. I’d suggest getting rid of the eggs and saying nothing more as it sounds as if they got some enjoyment from seeing you upset last night. I think they’ve lost their chance to earn their eggs back. Either they didn’t really care about them or they didn’t believe you - either way, it won’t harm them to go without and they might think twice next time. I’d caution against you eating the eggs as they might twist their thinking to justify their behaviour by saying you took their eggs because you wanted to eat them. Sending you hugs and strength as I expect you’ll have some tempers to deal with.

Bex - parenting is the hardest job. YOU are doing a great job ... these little girls are testing you. you are being a good parent in teaching them consequences for their actions. Hugs to you dear friend.
