Penny I hope the severity of your DGS' epilepsy decreases as he gets older. It can be so isolating.
Alliewill Homer accept hugs and kisses from a cat? If so, Pretty Girl sends them his way. It must be fun to see what animal Alfie reacts to.
Rebecca I don;t know how I missed World Wide Naked Gardening Day? I have never been comfortable exposing my body, even when much younger. Your pictures of the deer really captured just how habituated that wildlife has become to humans. 50 years ago, I don't think that a doe would bring her fawns right by a home.
Barbara"Pfizer shots ripened today". Perfect. And congratulations.
Heather Passwords are a real nuisance to keep track of even with the best memory. Is there anyway that you can convince him to have them written down in case the computer needs to be fixed, or you get a notice from a company about an update on the web site?
As soon as we check into the hospital in my state, we are asked if we have an advanced directive and if it does not have a copy, to fill out the form with who can make decisions and contact information. It gets witnessed and put into the file. However, I do have one, but I need to update it. Thank you for discussing this.
Karen What an achievement to get your DGS to 15 years old and at home. There are so many day to day challenges. One of our state universities has a special program for students on the autism spectrum. It may be good to ask about this where you live. If this is a route he will want to take, you will know that the school is prepared to deal with learning differences.
I have never thought of putting toys in the dishwasher. Always washed the grime by hand. No more. The Next Barbie bath will be in the dishwasher.
Bananas My computer froze a number of times today. A friend said to "put it in the microwave to thaw it out." I laughed so hard and left the computer to sort itself out.
Lisa I am so glad that you are working on another novel. I enjoyed your first. Did you write any more before this one? If so, send me the titles and where to get them. The quilt is lovely. I just picked up my old Bernina today from repair and picked up some pre-cut material to make a quilt for my DDG. She loves llamas and one of the fabrics had llamas on it. I don't do anything as fancy as you.
Pip I already said how much I like the shower curtain. Provence at its best. The pictures of the tent almost make me want to go camping, But after working in the elements in the middle of bone-chilling wind in winter or blistering heat in summer, my idea of camping is a Holiday Inn.I do enjoy hiking, but day packs only with a nice shower afterwards.
PatThe store really should have said something. Making you wait for a 60 minutes "just a minute" is inexcusable. COVID has completed affected supply chains. Increased demand for appliances due to people fixing their homes, and closed factories last spring, ship and airplane shortages due to cancellations, those that were still moving were dedicated to pandemic response supplies, the entire supply chain is clogged. The closing of the Suez canal with the grounding of the EVER GIVEN is not helping. However, the "help" you received was unacceptable.
Everyone in the western hemisphere, have a restful sleep. For those in the eastern hemisphere- have the day you always wanted.

Yep CJ, being that this is an island, and a small one at that, I think deer are just indifferent to it all, people, the jet noise, or autos.

CJ, put it in the microwave to thaw it out. LOL Love your friends sense of humor!
Pat, your experience at Lowe's would certainly have been frustrating!
Lisa, the quilt looks lovely! How nice that Egg wanted to "help!" lol
Pip, love the new bistro set!
We have deer hanging out by our place sometimes too. They even wandered up the driveway (we live in a townhouse) and ate the tulips that one member had planted. He was quite crushed.... I sympathised, I was very upset when the squirrels ate my primroses....
Hubby and I decided we needed new recliners so headed to our local Lazy Boy Gallery store. We ordered some lovely chairs, they should be here in nine months or so. Yes, I said nine months! When I asked the gal why so long, is it just because so many people are doing stuff in the home improvement areas, she said that was part of it, but also they are having trouble getting all the bits and pieces that they need and because they can only be at half strength in the factories because of social distancing. I'm trying to be positive, their arrival should coincide with Christmas, so I'm calling it our presents to each other. lol
Nice to see some ladies that haven't been hanging around for a bit! (I can only remember Meg and Penny, sorry!) This is what happens when I don't reply as I read, things and people get missed.
Well, it's late and I have to work tomorrow, so it's off to bed for me.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Evelyn, on beautiful, sunshiney Vancouver Island!

This was a good day. DH & I walked the dog in our neighborhood & saw Osprey and Bald Eagles. Later in the day we discovered a fish vendor at a local grocery store’s parking lot fish sale. I’m looking forward to fish dinner in the near future.1

Questions
Where are you on the chart above?
I feel like I've been in the Learning Zone since the mid-1990s ... 25-ish years.
Where would you like to be on the chart above?
Now ... I'd like to figure out what my comfort zone is and spend a bit of time there. Maybe next year I might want to move on to the Growth Zone. We'll see.
What is your comfort zone? How would you define a comfort zone?
Genuine question because I don't know anymore.

Relishing the lovely weather and its effect on my mood. Thankful for dry weather, trying not to worry about drought.
Machka Brava for maintaining your composure throughout the presenter’s gaffes and your supervisor’s making faces.
Karen posting a few washed up toys at a time on FB, great strategy! Could your son be on the spectrum a little too? This way he can choose from the few you post at his convenience, and not be overwhelmed by an entire box at once. Brilliant!
Julie what you are going through with your computer would make me sick  with rage Hope you can find comfort in all the laundry you’ve accomplished
Lisa was telling my stroll buddy, a quilter, about how I admired the precision of your Texas star centerpiece, the perfect points, the knife edge sides. Do you hand or machine quilt? Now, seeing the pinned up front and back I admire your expertise even more.
Heather like Margaret’s suggestion about late fee avoidance as leverage.
Allie I’ve just started the process, we don’t have anything legal, just a handwritten, unwitnessed “will” leaving everything to Joe’s brother if we both die at once, like in an accident on 199 en route to Medford medical care. I have a password log book too, and a list of who to call, who can help. Updated beneficiaries on one account, in process for two others with the same institution. Still must for Credit Union, Bank and Pension fund. I pay all the bills, most are autopay, need to change those that aren’t. Like Heather’s Johnny, Joe resists any such discussions. Shudder to think of him going through probate so investigating living trust.

Machka it takes a lot to pry me out of my comfy zone. Lately the stroll/chat’s with T have tiptoed into the hiking range, where the fear zone lurks. One of the things I hate about ageing is my fear of falling, a very real fear hiking our sometimes steep, sometimes slippery coastal trails. When I try to write a grant for our fire district, it’s a foray into the learning zone. That’s about all the growth I can handle at this point .

Thanks for all your good wishes for my grandson.Penny you say “tripwire to warn against approaching polar bears. (As one does.)” so casually it made me shudder. Then I saw the second pic of the ponies in the paddock and had a good chuckle. Are those buildings apartment houses? Glad to see you back.
Yeah, those are apartments. Nearly everyone in this "company town" lives in apartments provided by their employer. The buildings in that photo went up at record speed. The entire row of houses – about 20 family units and 20 units for singles – went up in about two months. They were intended to replace houses that had to be demolished because they were too likely to be hit by avalanches.
Everybody who hears I live up here asks how we stay safe from polar bears. I tell them it isn't the polar bears that kill us: it's avalanches. In the ten years I've lived here, one person was killed by a polar bear (which is bad enough), but seven have perished in avalanches. Following a major snowstorm a week ago, an entire neighborhood has been evacuated and the people won't be allowed to move back home until the end of the month.
CJ — You mentioned the kids in their sun crowns. We had a socially distanced version of the return-of-the-sun festival this year. The school has an annual competition where all the kids grades 1-6 draw a sun and one of them is chosen to be on all the publicity material that year. Here's a selection of sun festival buttons. Guess which one is from this year.
Gosh, it feels like only yesterday we celebrated the return of the sun, but starting tomorrow it will be up 24/7 until August 25.

Barbara. - Many people in my family have traits or aspects of their behaviors that are spectrum-like, so it would not surprise me if some of my son’s behaviors fell into that classification. I am hoping all of the toys will eventually end up with him, or at least with one of his old buddies that he still keeps in contact with. They could play with them. LOL!!!

Listening to loud music can help too.

With an egg you can study the egg itself, animals, people, nests/habitats, art, science, etc. We have made egg shell mosaics, talked about which animals lay eggs, how bird eggs are fertilized and hatched, done our Naked Egg experiment, cracked, cooked and eaten eggs. All in all, pretty fun in the eyes of a toddler/preschooler.
Evelyn- I am like you in the fact that I really need to start replying as soon as I read something I want to respond to; otherwise it disappears forever in the dark regions of my brain.
Heather- I have only gotten as far as "after death" wishes (cremation/service). I really need to get everything written out and sent to DH and the kids. DH needs to do everything for himself. I also think we need to compose it "two ways". How we want things if we have the finances to carry them out; and then how we want things if we don't have the finances.
Machka and Karen VA- Thank you for the "end of life" organizational links! It is always nice to have a place from which to start.
Karen VA - I can't believe your grandson is 15 already! I remember when you began your tutoring sessions with him. I would love to see what SW items you have!
Machka's chart- I think Tim's RA, and my growing business has catapulted me into the learning zone and the growth zone. I do spend a bit of time in the fear zone, lately. As I begin to make plans for my outdoor classrooms and building them. That is an entirely new skill set I have to learn; building things. The fear of it keeps me from doing it. It is kind of like jumping into a cold body of water. I just need to take a deep breath and jump.
I have been having dreams/nightmares that I am working. lol Not that my job is a creator of nightmares, but I just haven't felt well rested in the mornings the past week or so, due to the fact that I have been "working" in my sleep. Perhaps it is a sign that I am ready for another vacation? I woke up this morning just as my dream self was grabbing the Vorpal sword. Not sure what I needed that sword for. Although, life has felt like more of a battle lately. I am sure the extra weight I carry has added to the difficulty of my part in the "battle". I am down another two pounds this week, though. So...down is good.
Well, here we are. 7:30 and kids arriving. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Lisa was telling my stroll buddy, a quilter, about how I admired the precision of your Texas star centerpiece, the perfect points, the knife edge sides. Do you hand or machine quilt? Now, seeing the pinned up front and back I admire your expertise even more.
My dear Barbara,
I do not hand quilt. I take that back. I did when I made my very first quilt, for my sister's son, who has Down syndrome. He still has that quilt. I machine quilt now, mostly free motion. Just takes a special sewing foot that's transparent so you can see where the needle will hit, and then you drop the feed dogs. My hands are so dry that I have to use gloves with pebbled grip surfaces to move the fabric around, but I enjoy it. I got bright yellow gloves, so they make me happy. Thank you very much for the compliments on the quilting, but my quilts are always "ten aways." They look great from ten feet away, but not so perfect up close.
Barbie,
You are a better woman than I am. But then, you always have been. Your zen-like qualities are much to admire. The first time Corey said, "I need the computer now," when I was mid-sentence, it wouldn't be pretty.
Computer geekyness:I'm about to go look at computers shortly. Best Buy has some open box laptops that are tempting, under $300. If you're in the market for a computer, you might want to get it now. They're about to skyrocket (my opinion, so it's worth what you paid for it) because the computer chip market is crippled from the pandemic. Automakers are shutting down plants because they can't get what they need for new cars.
Because I've made a bit writing for a content mill, I can write off a new laptop as a business expense on my taxes this year, so will probably go ahead and get one. Probably. Mine is starting to really drag... Contemplating desktops, which are even lower priced right now, as I almost never drag my laptop around any more, but haven't decided yet. I can always burn down my current laptop and reset it to factory specs...
Regarding the desktop, most of the refurbished ones won't connect wirelessly, which would mean swapping something around or draping ethernet wires all over the walls... need to think about it.
Covidness:Getting scary again to go shopping - less than 50 percent of people still in masks (I'm wearing two and will until two weeks after my second vaccination which is 4/28). Arkansas is doing really well, honestly, but with the numbers going up around the country, it's still not over.
Also need to transfer some of our tiny seedlings out of the little greenhouse starter thingy and into six-inch pots to let them get a little stronger before we set them out. Probably the first week of May, as things stand now. There is still the possibility of frost until about mid-May. Corey's starting vegetables, and I'm starting an herb garden. I have ordered a dehydrator - I want to experiment with drying herbs this year, possibly to sell them at the farmer's market, we'll see.
Later, y'all,

What a lovely little person... hard to believe we've watched her grow since she was teensy. Great picture. ETA: The boots are seriously spiffy, too.1 -
Disclaimer: Written only for ladies with DH's that are becoming more negligent with hygiene as they age.
Read-only if you have a sense of humor
Ok girls here is the thing. All those years you enjoyed the benefits of a good DH came at a cost that becomes payable in your later years. With age, even the best DH may lose his sense of smell and has no concern that your smell is still keen. Many friends report that once a week showering is a godsend and most DH's of age try to get a month out of a shower. I think this is one reason so many couples of age have separate bedrooms. Thoughts of old men and summertime make me nauseous. I practice social distancing with old unkempt unsanitary men in stores with at least 12 feet. I try to analyze any air currents and if they are prevailing in my direction, I will make that spacing 24 to 48 feet or maybe just go to another store and pay a higher price. Maybe stand in line with the over-perfumed almost toxic, scantly clad young divas trying to cover up dead fish syndrome.
Summertime turns men into apes. What runs through an old man's mind that makes him think I want to see his greasy hairy sweaty bare chest? I mean enough hair to weave a horse blanket but no horse could stand that toxic odor. A saggy belly covers the top of his bagging shorts so much his belt cannot be seen. And those knee-length flowered boxers held up by suspenders. I think sasquatches could give old human men a lesson in hygiene. I had rather walk by buzzards eating sun-cured roadkill. The thing is many old men think us ladies of age enjoy seeing such unkemptness and culturing of fungus. I think many women of advanced years fake dementia to get out of a hopeless situation that could have been resolved with soap and water used on a regular basis.

Heather I thought that I had the password issue covered. However, today, I got a notice that the gas payment did not go through because the card was no longer valid and to log on to account. Well, it is still in husband's name although the emails and bill notices go to me electronically. It is billed directly to my credit card which just changed. I tried to log on and no luck. I do not have the password. I sent a message to customer service and hope I hear back soon before getting a credit report notice. This might be an example for your husband.
Allie I sympathize. My phone is refusing to charge with any of the chargers in the house and will only charge on the USB port on the computer. The phone is old ( 3 years or so) and I don't want to have to pay for a new one, much less learn how to use it. However, I and colleague may be getting an Apple phone from work since they are more secure. However, I dread having to switch from Android. So I would have 2 phones. I wonder how getting emails works. Microsoft runs everything at work.
Rebecca Whidbey Island looks positively idyllic. On a whim, I looked up houses for sale and gasped at the prices. OMG
As I tell a friend who has a house on a Greek Island overlooking the water in a small fishing village, paradise takes work. The house is very modest and is part of a family compound. All the siblings built homes attached to each other and the entire compound is surrounded by a whitewashed stone wall topped with tiles. The family home in Athens contains apartments built story by story for each of the children - the first was a dowery house for the daughter, and then the sons added their levels. Typical in the Balkans and Greece is the southernmost Balkan country. Many women today, still bring homes to a marriage.
[bSue][/b] Evelyn Barbara Barbiecat Katla I have always wanted to have a holiday in the northwest coast and Vancouver. The snatches that I have seen (Seattle and Portland, Vancouver, Spokane) was quite enticing albeit not reflective of the true beauty of the region. I do remember having breakfast at a hotel located directly on the water in Vancouver and looking across the water to magnificent scenery. Every time I flew to Portland, I swore that I would return for pleasure. Unfortunately, my mother, who moved there late after retirement, died and I have never had a reason to visit again.
Penny The masked sun is so clever. What a perceptive youngster. Hurrah to the artist. You live in another place I wish to visit someday.
Bananas Bravo! for all the laundry and ironing. If you like, I can send you my summer cottons to iron.
Everyone Stay safe and on the path to your goals.

LIsa, Thank you for your kind words. We have had to make a plan and schedule for computer use. Fortunately much can be done on our smart phones. Jake ordered a new computer. It will be here next Thursday. He decided to get an Apple computer instead of Microsoft so it will be a huge learning curve and I won't be able to help at all.

Re vaccinations: DH and I have had two Pfizer vaccinations. I’ve seen a possibility in the news that Pfizer may be adding a third vaccination. If that turns out to be true, we will get that one, too. For now, we are waiting to see what happens next.
CJ & Rebecca: Deer live inside our city. I saw one grazing next to the road on my way to the store yesterday morning. Last year they repeatedly ate my bean plants, to my extreme frustration. I decided NOT to plant beans this year. I can buy packages of frozen beans with no stress or frustration. DH is encouraging me to get some cherry tomato plants and I’m thinking about it. Our blueberry plants are a bit over grown and I need to do some pruning that I should have done last fall.
Machka: Looking at your comfort zone graph, I think I’m in the Learning Zone. The Growth Zone looks like it may be in my future but I’m not ready to be there yet. I’m working on learning to deal with current challenges. :flowerforyou:
Penny: I am happy to see you posting again. You live in a remarkable place. It is beautiful and challenging. I can see that worry about avalanches is more concerning than visits from bears.
Barbara: Container ships go past our home on their way to Portland and Vancouver, WA. The upriver dams operate to insure a passable channel to PDX and Vancouver, WA. We saw dredging a couple of years ago to keep the main channel passable. I don’t know whether there will be dredging again any time soon.
Allie: I hope your laptop is up and running soon. :flowerforyou:
Faetta: DH is hairy and does not go outside bare chested. Rarely do our male neighbors, either. Sunburn is not pleasant. It hasn’t been that warm outside so far this season and it is generally breezy year around. If we have a hot spell that may change for some, but I will be surprised to see anyone over 30 go shirtless. :noway:
Barbie: We have apple computers and have used Microsoft software in the past. DH’s new computer is using Apple software. He is happy with it. My laptop is old, 2009, and still chugging along with the software we bought long ago. I do not use mine for accounting. :noway:
Machka: I hope your DH’s test results are good.
I don’t have any pressing items on my to-do list so far as I know. I hope for a good day.

They are expensive huh!? These are vacation prices for the people that live on the mainland. Rentals are a bit over $1 per ft, for the newer houses. We have an older home and pay $1950 for 2368 sq ft. So its $1000 for us, and $950 for son a month. He pays electricity and water, and we pay internet and propane. Plus buy groceries. He takes us out to dinner a couple times a month. So it all works out.👍
Its hard to find housing here, because all the cheaper places are taken up by the many Navy squadron families stationed here.💖👍⚓
I had deer right when we moved here, at another rental home. The owners had planted roses all around a glass pained outdoor patio room. So it was like a fast food joint for them. They did leave one yellow rose to grow high and bloom gloriously! It was probably just not in their line of vision. So I enjoyed it for a couple days then when they were all out sunning, (there was about 10), I announced to them thru the screen door. "I have enjoyed the rose, its yours for the eating"! I checked back, and sure enough it was munched, but they left one petal hanging. Like a thank you.💖. At least that's how I perceived it.
Hugs

Machka - Thinking of you. You and your husband are my example of why we should get our affairs in order.
Haven't done a lot today apart from morning exercise and editing. After exercise I started to feel post-jabby, so I've been taking it easy and had a half hour nap. I did Zoom with my girlfriends with the laptop for the first time. Some of you may remember how I used to hate my laptop. Normally I Zoom on my tablet. It took a bit of doing and clicking various buttons for defaults etc, but I was only a few minutes late in the end. I will need to use my laptop for Singing Zoom next week as DH will be out and we are too many for the tablet to cope with. I thought it was better to practise with my three friends instead of 35 acquaintances!
Cauliflower rice tonight as a base for my homemade meatballs and tomato sauce. Friday night is wine night.

So sore, I think husband was sore enough he had a slight fever yesterday! Its gone now, and he is back to his kidding, playful self. The pinto bean soup was exceptional, and the two ham hocks I simmered rendered so much meat, I was shredding it and put about 5 handfuls in! I didnt grow up eating ham hocks, don't remember my momma ever simmering them, or buying them. So its still kind of a science experiment for me....
Ok need to get to the commissary! Coffee take affect!!!
Hugs to all my ladies!
Oh love all the pics! Olivia sweet Olivia, my how she's grown!

May 1st is garden naked day.😁
