My daughter wants me to make one for her birthday in a few days. I should probably look for recipes or does anyone have a recipe to share? I made it once and it came out great I just don't remember where I got the recipe from 😕

All the frosting without the carrot cake, please.

And, of course, I meant the frosting from the WHOLE cake.

I'm the opposite; all the carrot cake and no frosting (that's any cake, though). :yum:

Best cake is possibly red velvet or funfetti/confetti cake for me!

Carrot cake has always been a favorite and @glassyo can have all the frosting on mine. I have a lot of feelings about frosting and people in the south (maybe everywhere) use too much.

They do! Same in the Midwest. Too much frosting and a cake should stand on its own merits and not be doused in frosting/icing/glaze.

Loving desserts and living in the South is a dangerous combo, let me tell you.

    Red velvet is 2nd 😅d1sekxmo8nak.jpg

@tams_89 velvets aite wouldn’t be in my top 5 but you had carrot at the top so you’re forgiven

So your top 5 would be .....? :)

    1. Funfetti
    2. Red Velvet
    3. Carrot
    4. Pineapple Upside Down
    5. German Chocolate

All of these are without frosting, btw. Y'all can keep your frosting. Also, I did NOT include any cakes (like cheesecake) as I felt that was inauthentic to the question. The methods for preparing cheesecakes are wildly different than a standard baked cake.

Woah I didn’t think many over your neck of the woods knew about carrot cake I’m shocked. Your right about home made, stores don’t do them justice. Add a dollop of ice cream your in heaven 😋

I'm surprised you're surprised. Carrot cake is VERY common in the U.S.
Have you ever had zucchini (courgette) cake? In my opinion, it's better.

@SuzySunshine99 excuse my British ignorance but whenever I see stuff on American desserts it’s always donuts, cookies and ice cream lol.

Can’t say I’m a fan or zucchini but if you saying it’s better could be worth a go

Shout out to Pecan Pie, I know it’s not a cake per se but great dessert. It’s hard to find round my parts

Okay, as a kid, I never had a birthday cake.

Instead, my mother would make lemon meringue pie from scratch; it was Heaven. (it still is.)

Ooh forgot about Pumpkin Cake, almost as good as Carrot Cake because....the frosting!!
What is Trifle classified as because that deserves a spot high on the list. Never had Tiramisu but will try it one day, looks heavenly. :)

    Pies?

    Top 5:

    Pumpkin
    Apple
    Peanut butter
    Maple
    Lemon Meringue
