Just a question- obviously I am trying to lose weight, and next weekend we are having friends over for some games and drinks. I will only have a few, but I am wondering what my best option is for low cal. drinks, or whatever is better for me during weight loss. I normally wouldn't drink, but because we are newlyweds and everyone asks when and if I will be pregnant, I want to shut them up by having a drink or two. Lol. Thanks in advance for your help!

Red wine isn't too bad and it has some antioxidents in it. Just don't have too much like I did last night becuase my stomach isn't feeling good!

I don't drink much alcohol... maybe only 2-4 times per year. But what about that MGD 64 I keep seeing commercials for? "I'll have 64 calories of..." and they give the person like, a shot glass size of drink, while the other person gets a whole bottle of miller draft 64. Just a thought. It may taste terrible or not... I hate all beer, so it would probably taste just as terrible to me. LOL
  • I agree... wine is your best bet!

wine is your best bet. Just take it in moderation and you shouldn't mess yourself up too badly.

    I only drink 3 - 4 times a year.

Red wine is a great choice...shiraz is my fav. Two 3.5 oz are enough and are under 200 calories total.
  • You know you will come out better to google a few alcoholic beverages and campare. Because there are a lot of different wines out there and they all have different nitritional values.

alcohol is the devil's brew...have a seltzer water on the rocks with lemon:laugh:
  • vodka. just watch what you mix it with. The calories from fruit juice can add up. I like the light cranberry juice and a twist of lime.

lol, do what I do- screw it, have a daquiri!

I only drink maybe 2 or 3 times a year. When I do drink it's ONE drink. And I make a deal with myself that it can be whatever I want. Why would I waste it on red wine or yucky low cal beer ? nope, no sir, pass me something sugary and yummy please!

I went out for my boyfriends 22nd birthday last night and I got vodka and diet coke. So then I only had the vodka calories. However I paired this drink with a large pasta. :noway: so stupid but oh well we had a good time.

Vodka and Gin are good if you want to drink liquor. I personally prefer Tanqueray Rangpur on the rocks.

If you'd rather, then some red wine has some benefits.

Personally if I'm gonna drink beer I head towards the light beers. I do not like the 64 calorie beer. IMO Miller Lite is the best of the light beers. Then again, that's like being the tallest midget.

I drink regularly, so I guess I'm an expert. LOL.

    Tallest midget!

    Now that's funny!
Check out some of the V8 light juices for mixing with vodka or rum or whatever.
    Or even Crystal Light.
    is that sacrilege?

diet coke and rum: about 60 cals per ounce of rum. I like malibu rum: coconut flavoring. it is about 90 cals per ounce of rum.

tastes much better with coke zero than diet, but that's just my preference-

Not Mikes Hard Lemonade. 220 calories a bottle-dang. I stick to wine or rum and diet coke. I also make sure I workout more and save up a few extra calories for the night.

I always mix vodka with any SF/Calorie Free drink mix. For example, I'll buy the drink mix that will make 2 Quarts (lemonade is good, so is strawberry kiwi, cherry limeade) when you add water.. Then I will make a drink with the Strawberry Kiwi drink, some vodka, and a splash of Sprite Zero. You're getting taste, but only the calories in the vodka (like someone said earlier). Just experiment with different drink flavors (SF/Cal Free), and use those as your base for your drink.

Happy drinking! But just in moderation (be safe and responsible, duh!) Remember: nothing tastes as good as skinny feels (and being drunk one night def doesn't compare to being at a healthy, happy weight!) :flowerforyou:

I do this too. I like to put it in the blender with ice...kinda like a margarita.
  • I'm a bourbon drinker, I usually drink it straight up or with a splash of water. The food diary lists Maker's Mark Bourbon at only 69 calories per serving. Can anyone verify this? I can't find it anywhere.
  • Nevermind, it is 69 cals. per oz. = 276 cal per shot = not good......I need to find a new drink of choice.

I stand by Rum & Diet. Add a twist of lemon or lime. Or just used the Diet Coke infused with either!:drinker:

However, the alcohol calories are definitely what kill my weekends. :grumble:

I have a weakness for wine white or red or even blush, but white does have a few less calories. I e-mailed with a local winery and they gave me the calorie content for wine. i'll copy and paste it for you, ok it is not working for some reason but it did say that :

    Merlot had 95 cal
    Rielsing 90 cal
    Chardonay 90 cal
    White Zifandel 80 cal

there were others that i can e-mail to anyone that is interested

So needless to say i try and stick to wine as much as possible

I would rate myself as a regular drinker and I ALWAYS get a grey goose with soda water and a couple of limes.

I can't drink artificial sweetner and soda water is naturally calorie free...Its the best and because it's top shelf vodka-no terrible hangover (unless you drink 10 or something:)!! Enjoy your weekend!

    :drinker: Bottoms Up!

I would recommend Bacardi and Coke Zero. I never drink soda, but this drink is one with the fewest calories. Also, try Three Olives flavored vodka (cherry, grape and Mango are the yummiest) with diet sprite. Lastly, reg cranberry juice with equal parts water (to lessen sugar and calories) with vodka. For beer, I drink Budlight or Miller Lite.

Yes, I eat clean and I live a very healthy lifestyle, but I also like to have a good time... LOL

HAHA!! now i know what you'll be ordering!! tee hee...

my co-worker said she orders citrus flavored vodka and water with lemon.. she says it tastes like lemonade.. i personally drink a lot of beer (hence the beer belly :grumble: ) but i guess i would go with bud select.

I recommend a hard liquor (Vodka, Rum, Tequila, something like that) mixed with non-caloric items. The reasoning for this is that having any kind of sugar (fruit juice, V8 or sugared cola) affects your insulin levels and causes a hunger response. Beer will do the same thing, since it has a lot of natural sugars in it.

Hard liquor does not typically contain natural sugar (they have been converted to alcohol) unless it is falvored after the distilling process. Alcohol is the only item that does not require insulin for the body to process it (go figure), therefore it does not trigger the munchies. (That is why beer drinkers get a beer belly, but people who drink a lot of scotch or the like, tend to be skinnier.) These are both things that I learned as a nurse.

SO- while calories are usually calories, the lack of effect on insulin may be worth taking into consideration.
