It's funny to see Calvin learning about measures which don't see much use nowadays. For those who might not recall, bushels and pecks are measures of volume (ie: size of container) rather than weight. I'm not sure why they used such arcade measures in the past. I always found it curious since it appears based off of binary numbers rather than base ten.
A bushel is 32 quarts; a peck is 8 quarts.
A gallon is 4 quarts, 8 pinks or 16 cups.2 -

I don't know if Watterson came up with the name or not but there was a band(ish) called Le Scrambled Debutante. It was moderately awful... more noise than music...

This makes me think of High School and the "music" I would listen to. Most of it was good, but some of it was just to get my mom to freak out.
