Did the aerobic portion of the Gilad 45/45 split DVD then went for my aerobic walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do the same DVD but this time the toning section
Annie DE – Yes, it IS very hard for me, but I try (and sometimes don't succeed...but I’m getting better at this) and the garbage can is being my friend. I was raised with the “don’t waste” mentality, and I’m trying to break that. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. Maybe some of the food you bought can go there?
Tracey – Vince won a Google Nest. Really, the only thing I have it do is add things to my grocery list. I really should have it play music especially if I’m working on a craft at the table near it. During this pandemic when we were on lockdown, that’s the main reason I got the job at Food Ion – I needed to be with people. I admit that I did get used to having the money. But the main reason was to be in contact with people.
Around the block is about 1-1/2 mile and I seem to do it in 35 minutes. Is that a good time?
Cantstopher – welcome! Great goals
Rebecca – sending good thoughts for your son.
Ceramics tonight. Just came in from the pool.

DH is off to cricket tomorrow. I have a whole day to myself! Actually, I don't, because I have Singing Zoom and girlfriend Zoom in the afternoon. My difficult friend made a desperate dash back from France on Monday to beat the new red zone quarantine rule. She is still isolating at home, but it's better than a government order. I expect to hear all the details of the trauma.
I will have DimSum lunch and easy falafel and hummus flatbreads for dinner with lots of salad. That way DH can come home anytime and dinner is an easy assemblage.
I had registered for a Zoom this evening with a pressure group I belong to, but I heard nothing more and the Zoom link never materialised. Don't know what happened. A famous journalist was meant to be leading the discussion. I had put my face on specially.
I'm in the middle of watching a YouTube video about how to use Instagram. I am a complete beginner. My son on AATV immediately followed me, so he must have been notified through Facebook, though I deliberately didn't link it. A lot to learn. At the moment there is zilch to follow! I returned the compliment!
Thank you ladies who have offered help. I will let you know when I have got something to show. A blank page is not very exciting!
I am doing little baby steps.
Today I am nine pages from the end of the first edit.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

bananasandoranges wrote: »tried to get 1st reading glasses at this really discount place. I waited a long time for them to test my eyes since my vision has gone down in past months or even weeks. I could get by without reading glasses and now it's tough. but she didn't test astigmatism and the very quickly produced pair (less than 40 min) wasn't so clear.
I think my astigmatism has evolved and she didn't want to bother. when she was testing I told her it was clearer but wasn't very clear.
but tell me are reading glasses only supposed to help for a certain distance, no closer, no farther? like you can keep your book 15 inches away but not so much 12?
that's kind of how it was, but still not totally clear.
whinge :a bust! after waiting and paying and checking they said they can only give me.a refund in 2 weeks.
the manager had already yelled at the woman before me who had waited a very long time. She was speaking softly, but was frustrated about a long wait ; and he was yelling very loudly that she should keep her voice down. then he was extremely unpleasant with me. I'll spare the details but it was pretty shocking! I said I was going to record it. then he tried to insult me by whispering so I put the recording phone in front of my ear. then he tried to write on an insult on paper. and I was going to take a picture of it but he said I couldn't. and way more, but I'll spare you. I don't know what the insult is thank goodness. I was rather detached and saying: who is speaking loudly? He was a bit crazy; he said he won't be there in 2 weeks, so he didn't care about (not sure what). (maybe he quit or is getting fired?)
I've rarely seen such "management!".
Really poor customer service!! I've actually stopped going to chain discount optical services. The last time I did they could not get my prescription right and finally I went with old-fashioned bifocals.
I have two pair of glasses. One is a distance pair of progressives which I wear while driving and cycling. I can read things closer up through the bottom, but where they excel is distance viewing.
The other are desk glasses. They are also progressives. Through the top, I can see probably about 10 metres away quite clearly and then things start to get a little blurry. Through the middle, I can see my computer screen reasonably clearly and it is about an arm's length away. Through the bottom, I can see the page I have on a stand to refer to or my phone, when they are about 30 cm (1 foot) away.
If I need to see detail really sharply, I take my glasses off and hold the item about a little less than 1 foot away. For example, when I'm lying in bed reading, I prefer to do that without my glasses. Or if when I colour, I've discovered I prefer to do that without my glasses too.

Flea - I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’m glad your son was with you though. Hugs and prayers.
Heather - thank you for the meme it made me literally LOL. I know the under the surface stuff is the pain in my hips and back. I made a step in the right direction today, I have a doctors appointment on Aug 5th. I’ve seen her before and have had physio but neither is helping. I’m going to have to demand an X-ray, ultrasound something this time and not let her tell me it will take time. It’s been 2 years of me babying this hip and since January of this year that I can’t do anything. I will go without pain for a day or two but then I drop something like a pen and have to bend to get it and I’m in pain again for days on end. There has to be a better way.
Hubby and I are also thinking of taking a couple days off together to go camping. We’ll see.
Kylia - I hope today was better for you, I don’t blame you for being upset with contractor. I miss having friends close by and dropping in for coffee. I haven’t had that since we moved to Alberta and I miss it terribly.
I’ve found nothing seems to interest me food wise right now. I stopped tonight though and bought some fruit that I’ve been picking at.
Kelly - I hope all the kiddos feel better soon. I don’t think I would know what a monarch egg looks like to allow it to grow.
Pip - that bathroom is beautiful for a campground! I have never worn a two piece that showed any middle. When I was a teen I had two surgery scars, then I had stretch marks. I shouldn’t have cared but did. Still do truthfully.
Debbie- does you Mom need to do this to supplement her income? It seems like a lot!
Goldfish crackers are one of my favourite snacks.
Rebecca - I’ll pray for your son. Can they mandate a vaccine? I don’t know if Canadian military can order it or not, civilian employers can’t.
Michele - I think I would work for some company too if when I’m older, retirement does not appeal to me because my only social life outside of my family is work.
Had a chat with my best friend tonight, just a short one but sometimes that’s all I need. We have been friends since the first day of grade 2. We haven’t lived near each other since we were 18 though. Besides my husband she knows me better than anyone I think.
I am going to try a hot bath and se rid that helps any of my pain tonight. Might also dig the heating pad out again. I stopped for a while and I think it was a mistake. It’s hard to sit with it when it was so incredibly hot. Cooler tonight.

We ate lunch in a restaurant with friends today for the first time in more than a year and half. We are not very social people but it turned out to be fun and we will probably do it again sometime.
I finished a knitted blanket for Project Linus. It is big for a teenager rather than the smaller toddler and child sizes I've done before. Now I can start on another one.Snowflake1968 wrote: »Kylia - I couldn’t resist.
One year I had a particularly difficult class of first grade students and I would come home every night bemoaning how challenging they were. I started giving myself a sticker on my calendar for every day when I was especially nice and stopped focusing on how troubling the students were. It made the year so much better.

Tracey Love it! Lol! Sis in law wasn't at work today. No surprise. She had a 10 am appointment. I managed. Still not caught up on invoices, but got parts orders done. Have been trying to do that since Friday. Customers all taken care of do that is a plus. I even quit being weepy by about 1PM.
Barbie I am trying to be positive! Some folks just make it so hard. 😒
Cooked grilled chicken for supper with sweet potato and asparagus. Yummy! I was full which helped when I went to the grocery tonight. Fridge finally getting some food in it. I am pleased with my eating today. Six servings of fruits and veggies and only 1 gram short on protein.
Prayers for those in need (okay, everybody)
Love to you all!

I ran at lunch today!
I've been thinking of running at lunch for months now, but excuses were easy to come by.
I have signed up for a 6K event on August 1, and so last Saturday I went for a run and did not feel strong. I covered the somewhat hilly 5K but there was more walking than I wanted and the running was really slow. So I finished the exercise portion of my day by rowing and doing weights and pilates. I've been exercising more this week in an attempt to increase my strength.
Plus, I decided that if I didn't want to walk a lot of the 6K and if I wanted to feel a bit stronger, I'd better stop with the excuses and get out for a lunch run.
As always with my runs, the first couple km weren't particularly good ... I ran, but my legs whined ... and then I settled into a rhythm and felt all right. 6.5 km and faster than I've been in a while!

Margaret –- 90F is difficult. Adding a drought to the picture makes it dangerous. In Oregon there are several significant fires again this year. Last year our state had massive fires and many lost homes. Some lost lives. I hope this year has less fire damage. It is worrisome. :ohwell:
Evelyn –- Thank you for the good birthday wishes.
Rita -- Beautiful flower!
Rebecca -- I hope things go well for your son. Sending good thoughts.
Flea – Sending continuous prayers and good thoughts for you. :flowerforyou:
Barbie – I’ve been knitting a blanket for a new baby boy in our family. He is due in October or early November. I’m past the halfway mark for the baby blanket and will keep on knitting until it is done.
Our new microwave & oven combination are now installed in the kitchen and working!! YAY!!!! The old one was hauled away this very day.

Katla, congrats on finally getting the oven and microwave installed! Looking forward to seeing the baby blanket when it's done.
Rebecca, keeping my fingers crossed for your son, hoping things go his way. Is this the one who is your roommate?
Kim, sorry to hear that you are losing Dylan as a roomie, but so begins another chapter.
Heather, good luck with the social media. I'm on Facebook a lot (probably too much, but....) but I would have no idea how to set up a professional page for your needs.
Allie, my mom had MS and the first thing she noticed was she was having trouble walking, her legs didn't want to work for her very well. She saw many specialists before one suggested MS and then saw many more doctors before seeing a fellow whose specialty was MS patients and he confirmed it. For your sake, I really hope it's not MS, it steals away so much.
It's really late and I'm tired and should be in bed, yet here I am.... I forgot yesterday that I also watched Driving Miss Daisy, never saw it before, quite enjoyed it. A nice, gentle movie, no gratuitous sex or violence which seems to be what so many rely on these days.
Today was my birthday (July 21), just before 5 pm I informed hubby that he was taking me out for dinner. Fortunately for me, he was a good sport about it! lol We also went down to where our grandson was having his last lacrosse practice for the season. It was like a mini game. These were 5 and 6 year olds, so it's kind of like watching a swarm following the ball, pretty cute tho. At the end of the game, one mom had brought doughnuts for the kids and coaches, one kid ran out and told his mom "we each get to have a whole doughnut!" It was really cute. Our granddaughter and son weren't there, son had a meeting so kept granddaughter at home so that mom could watch the practice, she's quite the lacrosse fan and it's hard to watch anything when you're chasing a two year old around! The meeting was virtual, so easier to keep the little one home.
We just went to White Spot, I just didn't want to cook, didn't need anything fancy, lol. The food was decent, the bill was reasonable and the service was good. Win, win, win (and I didn't have to clean up afterwards!)
I had decided today that I wanted to cycle half my age, which would have been 31.5 km. I didn't quite make it, I did 27.75 km. Probably could have made it the rest of the way, but would have had to double back on myself again and when I had been on that particular stretch before it had been really windy and so it was tough going. My knees were also not happy with me, so I decided to give myself a bit of a break. But the padded bike shorts are a win!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

I hope the Navy does the right thing. If they demote him out of the Navy, they are throwing the baby out with the bath water. It serves no purpose. Keeping my fingers crossed for him, and sending "do the right thing" thoughts to the Navy.

I had to smile when I read that your difficult friend made a desperate dash back from France on Monday. On Monday, Olivia & Phoenix and their mom made a desperate dash to Corsica to be with their grand-mère and grand-père, hoping to get stuck there. The children thrive with their Corsican grands-parents, and they make great strides with language.

Since our move, I've fallen off the bandwagon with my 10,000 steps a day, mainly because there's so much else that needs to be done. Unsurprisingly, my weight took a little excursion in the wrong direction. But there's still hope. Here's an updated version of a graph I've posted before.
On average, I've lost 30 grams a day since January 1st. Thirty grams is one ounce. Over time, just one ounce a day makes a big difference. Slow but steady loses the weight!
Still, the increase last week was a shot across the bows. I'm doing my darndest to get my steps in (often in the form of jogging) but here's what I've had to deal with recently.
It has been raining cats and dogs for over a week. Tromsø recently set a new record low temperature, coldest July 20th in recorded history. There was new snow on the peaks across the fjord from us that day.
I'd dearly love to share both the rain and the cold with the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, that's not how the world works.
Hugs to all who need them!
