Week 2 of vacation—9 runs, walks, & hikes in 7 days, 3 strength training sessions, and two climbing sessions. The hikes and climbing were with my family, which I absolutely love—I never would have gotten to see these waterfalls and swimming holes as a child, bc my parents wouldn’t have been able to hike that far/that strenuous of terrain.
I started running one of the hiking trails and went from getting lost and not finishing, to a 16:33 min/mile over 4.6 miles to 15:22 min/mile (including all the walking up/down slippery parts, stopping at overlooks, and taking pictures). I absolutely love trail running—makes me feel like a kid. I’ll have to search out some trail at home in the flatlands now! I’m also seriously considering helping coach my son’s cross country team, which I never would have thought I could do.
Usually vacation means all the food and alcohol, but this time I felt fine I indulging when we ate out but being more moderate the rest of the time (instead of indulging at every meal because…vacation!). I actually lost a little over a pound, which is not usually my post vacation situation!

I've kept some old shirts that have sentimental value to me. One is a denim pull-over beach shirt my grandmother gave me when I was around 14. Another is a double-knit shirt my aunt made for me when I was around 22. They both fit this morning. I'm 65. Miss you both!28

I went biking today!!
My husband bikes and has always wanted me to do it with him. So much so that he bought me a bike several years ago even though I didn't know how to ride. I went out a few times, but the exhaustion and panic attacks were too much for me, so I quit.
Lately, though, I've been eyeing the bike in the garage whenever I come back from the gym. So yesterday I mentioned in passing that MAYBE I'd be willing to try again. Next thing I know he's got it spruced up and loaded into the truck! Guess he was afraid I'd change my mind if he didn't act fast, LOL. Truth be told, I probably would have chickened out except he was obviously SO happy. Since I never rode as a kid, I literally had to watch youtube videos before we left the house so I'd know how to start/stop. But I went!!
I only managed 4.25 miles before the heat (91F) and the hills got me, but I RODE A BIKE AND DIDN'T DIE!!!

BrightEyedAgain, that's awesome on your bike ride and very impressive to accomplish it with hills and in such heat.5

I took the kids running for their first time yesterday. We may have looked like goofballs but they learned a new way to relieve stress/coping skills and I have no excuse to not run. So I consider this my NSV of the week.16

Thank you @SwtHedgehog
Tomorrow my husband's taking me to the bike shop to get an Osprey water pack to help me with the heat. That seemed to be the biggest issue, and he thinks drinking more water and having the ice water pack against my back will help a lot. Makes sense to me, and I'm excited at getting "real biking" gear, LOL. I really BELIEVE I can become a person who bikes, and that's mind-boggling. But, then again, why not? I've recently become a gym rat and a swimmer, and I didn't expect that either, so the sky's the limit, right?
Oh, and to keep on track for the thread, here's another NSV:
I ordered a dress today for my 23rd wedding anniversary next week, and not only is it SLEEVELESS, but it's a Medium!! Happy Dance!! Between that and the Osprey, my gifts this year are totally different from past years, and I love that I'm officially someone who gets cute dresses and athletic gear as presents. Life is good!18 -
@dougwinings
What a wonderful moment!! To be able to wear those shirts again and honor the people you love. WOW!! Congratulations!!4 -
Last night I put 1 and 1/2 potatoes on my plate. I only ate the half, and helped myself to a second serving of peas instead!8

I'm 50 years old, and yesterday was the first time since my 20s that I could take my shirt off at the beach without feeling embarrassed. Also, I was trying on some old clothes, and I was able to fit into a really nice shirt and pants I own for the first time in well over ten years. I plan on wearing them to a party this weekend, and to be completely vain and shallow, I'm looking forward to hearing everyone I haven't seen in over a year comment on how much weight I've lost! (About 40+ pounds... not nearly as much as some people here but a lot for me.)
NEVER disparage what you have accomplished (not nearly as much....) Every person has a private battle and every accomplishment should be recognized and celebrated. That is a huge loss. Think of this - you have lost the size of a toddler!! and free closet shopping is the best.9 -
In 2007 I decided to get serious about losing weight & getting back in shape. Initial weigh in was 237 lbs (5' 10"). In 2 months got to Onederland, and I've been 170-190 ever since.
Anyway, got up to 189 this Jan 1st, and decided to rededicate myself to 3 days on / 1 day off / 365 days a year workout routine, and really watch my carbs & late night snacking.
Weighed in this morning at 161.5!
I know that's technically a Scale Victory, but I am getting married this Saturday and I'll be rocking size 31 pants & a medium shirt - I feel absolutely fantastic!24 -

My NSV is discovering a pair of tight jeans are no longer tight.16

I feel like I'm noticing a lot more of these NSVs lately. Today, I grabbed a soda out of the vending machine, feeling like I needed a break from my water bottle. I took 3 sips, and it tasted horrible! Instead, I'm munching on some super juicy watermelon for a hydrating, sweet break from plain water!16

Last year, my husband’s job changed and he began working from home. We purchased one of those desks that can be raised or lowered. He tries to switch it up every couple of hours from sitting to standing. Maybe your employer would be willing to provide a desk like that or if you work from home perhaps you could purchase one.
It also helps to set a timer for yourself to take short walks or go up and down stairs a few times per day for a set amount of time. This can be done at work or at home.
When the gyms closed last year we began going for walks in our neighborhood and now we hike in local parks and nature trails on the weekends. We also added some YouTube videos. You can search for beginner workouts. There are some as short as 10-15 minutes.
I live by the mantra of trying to make good choices each day. Am I always 100%? No, but no one is perfect. Just start with small changes like adding more vegetables to meals and choosing grilled items over fried. If you need something sweet choose something small or sugar free. Just don’t feel like you have to accomplish everything all at once. Losing weight is not always a linear process. It’s more like a roller coaster. The small changes will add up over time. Just be patient with yourself.

OK, so every person and every body is different, but this is what helps me. I also sit at a computer for 8-12 hours a day, so changes needed to be made. This works for me.
a) get a food scale
b) get a scale
c) use these daily
1. Drink fizzy water. I add a little bit of apple cider vinegar to make it taste a little more acidic and fresh.
2. Sometimes I have a Coke No Sugar. It's a nice treat and essentially zero cals
3. I do not eat after dinner.
4. I try not to eat breakfast before 10am. I try to push it out to 11 if I don't feel hungry
5. 200g Greek yoghurt and banana. Try not to eat again until 1pm, push to 2pm if you can
6. 500ml soup (200-350 cals, depending), or 3 boiled eggs, or 2 boiled eggs and 1 piece of toast. 150-350 cals
7. Dinner I try to have 200g lean protein and vegetables 350-600 cals
Make a rule to 1) never eat at your desk, 2) never eat in your car/public transport. Always sit down to eat at a table
The above system leaves spare calories in your budget. FEED YOUR CRAVING. Feel like chocolate? Ice cream? Potato chips? Then have some, but make sure it's in your budget. I do this after dinner as a dessert. You can have cake, pudding, just measure the portion. I measure out 37g of plain salted potato chips. And for me that keeps me from going off my diet because I feel I am not being denied.
Try and get at least 30 minutes of heart-rate-increasing activity into your day, preferably an hour if you can. Walking is simple, it's great. Find some hills. ONLY CREDIT HALF THE CALORIES to your budget. So if you exercised 500 cals, only increase your eating by 250 max.
Have a packet/tin of low-calorie mints handy. When your mouth wants to TASTE something, or wants to have something IN IT, then pop a couple in and you'll distract your mouth while not going backwards on your budget. Same can be done with pickles and raw vegetables if you don't mind those.
Hope some of that is of use to you. And why not ask God for help? You are never alone when He is on the Team.

I ate what i planned to today, and i logged fairly accurately. Which dosen't sound like much but i have been on such a slide lately, even one day seems like a victory.21

I can wrap my fingers around my wrist.15

I ordered a bikini 😬 it remains to be seen if I like the fit and if I’ll want to wear it but I feel like I might be ready to branch out from the one piece. Maybe.
Hopefully I’ll be back with another NSV next week 😉16 -
My NSV this week was walking 6.5 miles yesterday. I took a fall walking my dogs mid-January, and broke my back. After I got out of hospital at the end of January wearing a back-brace, I did nothing, physically for two months, and put on weight. My first walk in March was 7 minutes! The injury also took an inch off my height, which oddly I am really miffed about! For a long time 15 minutes was the most walking I could do. After a few weeks of physio I started to increase the length of my walks, and can now manage over an hour without pain - a few lbs gone also...27

My bathing suits from last year are falling off.17

My nsv of the day is definitely a mental one. I cried happy tears when my boyfriend handed me the box to something we ate so I could scan it! It's the first time anyone has done that for me and it feels amazing to have someone in my corner that much.
Wow.... a few weeks ago I was updating my meal planner (sticking to it diligently), and my husband actually said he admired my determination. Feels so good to get the unexpected nod of support!13 -

I totally get this!! I love the look and smell of chocolate cakes and pastries but everytime I eat it it kinda gives me a mild headache. Yay me!!6 -
I'm waking up rested and fresh in the morning and have started going for morning walks. I love it!! I'm not a morning person and used to wake up really grumpy and angry despite sleeping for 10 hours
I'm trying to wean off sleeping pills and trying natural methods (sleep inducing foods) like warm milk with nutmeg powder. It's working!!12 -
Today is an official rest day for me after two days straight of harder workouts than usual. But somehow, despite feeling exhausted last night, I woke up with the dawn today full of energy. (Normally I'm NOT a morning person at ALL.) So, I decided to enjoy myself with a quiet stroll through the neighborhood before it got too hot. I love walkng in the morning when all the birds are singing, and I had a wonderful time. Only when I got back did I glance at my fitbit and realize I'd just done the long route that used to be so hard that I couldn't repeat without a rest day in between. And I didn't even NOTICE all the hills because I was so happy to be outside. Who is this energetic person???? I like her!!25

@Frompumpkin2cinderella I saw your post right after I wrote mine, and I love the idea of not being a grumpy person in the morning anymore. Maybe I'll start taking regular morning walks like you're doing and see if it helps me. Likewise getting off of the sleep aids. I hate taking pills, but I usually take a benadryl every night so I don't snore. Maybe now that my weight's down some, I wouldn't have that problem as much. Worth a shot! I definitely know I'm sleeping better in general from all the exercise. Thanks for putting this idea into my head!8

Yesterday, I went to a place that always puts out lots of yummy snacks (cookies, fancy candies, etc). I would always have one or two when I went. Yesterday, I looked it over and had no temptation whatsoever to partake. I ate before I went, had my bottle of water and was perfectly happy to stay away. I'm more happy that the temptation has disappeared than that I stayed away.16

Have been injured since Mid March and have had to stay off my feet since. Despite this, I have maintained my weight. Last time this happened I gained weight and did not lose it until last year. While healing is frustratingly slow, so glad that I learned about CICO instead of thinking that exercise is the only way to lose or maintain weight.19

I ran a 5K in under 30 minutes this morning. It's been a goal of mine for the last few months. When I started running again, I was running almost 12 minute miles, so to accomplish this is really meaningful!23
