One of my August goals was to try new recipes. So far I have made two and I liked them both. The first one was braised cauliflower with tomato, capers and olives. I put some garam masala in it for seasoning, something I typically don't use. I loved it! The second recipe was baked potato zucchini fritters. I used almond flour and nutritional yeast. This recipe did not require eggs. I was surprised at how well they held their shape. I would definitely make both of these recipes again.
@hucklesuckle2385 Congratulations on your engagement! That is very exciting!
@justanotherloser007 Your progress pictures are amazing! Wahoo for almost being in Onderland! I am happy for you!
@CariTJR I am so sorry for you loss.
@holdthefries I love that you have committed with a friend to walk daily. That is fantastic!
@goal06082021 I need to Google Bulgarian split squats to see what they are. They sound hard!
@Renewed2021 I admire your honesty about being scared. I can emphasize. Welcome to the group! I love that your husband is concerned for your health and supporting you. I can tell he truly loves you!
@jazzadesigns I have a daily step goal of 10K. I struggled for a long time to meet that goal. I found I was hitting it here and there but then the next day I would only get 8K. I kept at it. Now I am on a 20 day streak of 10K! Eventually I would like to increase my goal to 12K then 15K.
@JuneyCLeaves Those bars look tasty! Congrats on the foster. He is precious!

I struggled a LOT this week, so honestly I'm happy that I stayed even. I'm actually down three pounds from yesterday.
This week I'm taking steps to make sure the wise choices are also the EASIEST choices. Like reminding myself that yes, I totally DID deserve that Blizzard on Thursday (survived the first day of kids back at my school!) but hey, it added half an hour of rush hour traffic to my drive home, and that's a lot! So maybe later.
I know me. If I can get safely home, the chances that I'll jump in the car later to run down to DQ are pretty slim. Just gotta make it home!
Welcome, new folks! So glad to be with you on this journey.

Think I explained on another thread that my username should really be Light Switch as I've been on and off here for over ten years, more off than on!
So I'm now at the heaviest I've ever been and really need to do something about it.
SW 226lbs
CW 226 lbs
I joined a gym/pool on Friday, have been swimming and done a short spin class though I confess spinning is never going to be my thing! I've got an aqua HIIT class booked for Tuesday and gym induction on Friday morning. I'm a lot happier in the water doing aqua classes rather than the spin studio. So my plan is to do two or three aqua classes a week with a couple of strength training sessions in the gym a week. I've also got 4 dogs so do a fair bit of walking as well.
So between moving more and eating less in hoping to see some positive results.
I must also dig out my take measures and get my measurements down to help when the scales aren't kind yet I know I've done what I can.
Quite happy for people to add me - 42 yes old, live in England, work full time 😊

@JNettie73 way to go on your streak! My fitbit wants me to walk 10k steps per day. I make it some days, but not consistently. My sister and I walk on lunch 2 or 3 days a week.
@JuneyCleaves your dog is SO cute!
My son just started going back to the office 2 days a week after working from home for a year and 4 months. My daughter’s college is supposed to be back in person this semester. Now Friday my work said we have to wear masks again all day. I just can’t wait for things to get back to normal. Stay safe everyone!2 -
@JNettie73 You know what a squat is, yeah? Feet hip-width apart, back kept straight, bend your knees to lower your hips until your thighs are parallel with the ground, then push through your heels back into a standing position. A regular split squat is that, but on just one leg, with the other one extended behind you, toes on the floor for balance. Kind of like a curtsy lunge/reverse lunge, but all your weight stays on your front foot, the front leg is doing all the work. Bulgarian split squats are split squats, but your rear foot is elevated, up on a bench or chair. It's a good way to make squats more challenging, and they will absolutely obliterate your quads.
@JuneyCleaves good luck with the foster! he looks like a very good boy!
Today I had grand plans to go explore another portion of a municipal park with nature trails in the next town over, but as soon as I turned westward I was greeted with a black sky and a sudden downpour. So, back east to what has become my favorite natural area it was. The storm was being blown inland, so as long as it wasn't raining when I turned onto the road where the natural area was I felt confident I could take my walk there, and indeed I could - there was thunder but the skies held back for an hour while I walked around. I saw TWO gopher tortoises having some lunch Plan B was going to be a 30-minute circuit at PF, which I didn't really want to do because apparently all 5 of the signs hung around the 30-Minute Circuit area are written in a language that I and only I can perceive and understand, seeing as I'm the only person I've ever seen use the area as instructed at half a dozen PF locations...3 -

He doesn't know I'm doing thus, but hearing him say that was an affirmation I need to get better. He also told me that he believes in me and that I can be healthier if I want to be. That made me cry. He's never said a word about my weight or my size. His only concern is my health. I haven't told him I'm doing MFP yet. He knows I'm a serial starter, and for that reason I want to show the evidence before I speak the words. He really blessed me today and I doubt he never knows it.
Then tell him!!! You may get more encouragement than you know.5 -

Starting late this month. Thanks @RavenStCloud for this thread.
I am going to start over with my check in format because so much has changed in July.
History:
I lost about 40 lbs. on MFP quite a few years ago during the economic downturn. Then I went back to work and gained it back. I was put on furlough during the pandemic and lost 20 lbs. Then I was laid off and found an even better full-time job working remotely temporarily and started to gain (5-6 lbs.) especially during the holidays. I started to turn that around and slowly losing when we had to replace our scale. It showed me as 5-6 lbs. heavier than my old scale. I started to work at this paper weight gain and then this spring I kept going between 255-257 lbs. Then last month I was diagnosed with a serious illness and will be having surgery. I have continued to go up and down not really making progress. I am not giving up. I am also having a challenge checking into this thread more than every week and with logging my food and exercise consistently. On Saturdays I usually get caught up and post on here.
Goals for this month:- Get a good night sleep.
- Keep drinking 8+ glasses of water.
- Log my food/ daily.
- Evaluate progress and post on this thread weekly.
- Find a healthier after dinner dessert. (last year I improved my breakfasts and this is my last issue to an otherwise very healthy diet)
- Plan meals at home.
- Make progress with weight loss.
Month goal: 250
Goal for the end of the year: Get under 230
@pamiede It is nice to see you this month. You have always been an inspiration to me. You do know what to do and but your situation has changed so you need to make some adjustments. I would have a hard time if I couldn’t get on that scale. I am having health challenges I found out about last month.
@JNettie your pictures show great progress. Thanks for posting them.
@goal06082021 everyone has been shopping their closet lately but you have the best reason. Such a nice NSV.
@CariTR I am so sorry for your loss. Take care through your grief.

Weigh in yesterday. Weight up a tiny bit compared to the prior week, I was just shocked it wasn't up more than it was. Up today but that's also usual Monday increase but more what I was expecting to see yesterday.
Wine festival was quite nice. Have a slight burn on my face as it was very hot and I only had lightly put sunscreen on my face worried it would sting as I sweat. Tried most but missed 2 of the wineries before the day closed. I enjoyed what I had so no regrets. Saw the farm animals they had as well.
Foodwise wasn't bad. Had to guess on calories for something similar. Actually forgot to log what would equal the few glasses of wine; definitely over for the day as planned but wasn't bad overall.
Gym schedule is off a bit for my friend's appts and mine so have to swing going different days. I went to my work gym last week and they made changes for the bad so I'm expecting to cancel them. I still have to cancel regardless to get a cheaper rate with their company switch but was not happy with where they moved the machines.5 -
Happy Monday! I hope everyone is doing well and had a good weekend. I was able to stay on track and I think, based on the way the scale is moving, that eating back some or all of my exercise calories is the way to go. I started doing that later last week and saw an almost immediate drop in pounds. Maybe it was sodium, maybe it was related to starting to workout or hormones, who knows. Either way, the scale started moving in the right direction again, and I'm pretty thrilled!

Hello! Definitely new to the forum and excited to be here!
My name is Heather. I'm 37 years old, married mom of two and full time employee...doesn't leave much time for me, but I'm changing that in the second half of this year. 3 years ago I was an athlete. I was regularly completing rounds of Whole30 to keep my diet on track and was always working toward one race, bike ride or duathlon after another. I was so healthy, in fact, that I became the most fertile I'd been in 10 years and got pregnant. I stayed very healthy through the pregnancy thanks to gestational diabetes. I only gained about 30 pounds during my pregnancy. 1 week post-partum I was only 11lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. I got there quickly with breastfeeding. I breastfed for a year and was one of those women that ate everything in sight and just burned it right off. Unfortunately, when I stopped breastfeeding I did not stop eating for two. My baby is 2.5 now and I found myself only 4lbs away from the heaviest I've ever been. Went to the doctor and my bloodwork is horrible. I'm now on two medications for high cholesterol and teetering on the edge of diabetes.
So, right now I'm scared that I'm going to fail because I haven't been able to stick to a diet for more than a week in the last 18 months.
I'm scared that giving all my attention to weight loss and getting healthy will affect my relationship with my baby.
I'm scared that I'm going to put in the hard work and it won't pay off.
But mostly, I'm scared I'm going to have a heart attack and leave my children without a mother. Or worse, with a mother they have to take care of.

I'm using a method called habit stacking to build healthy habits. This month I'm working on the following habits:
1. Drink 85oz of water daily
2. Stay within my calorie goal 5x/week
3. Move intentionally every day
4. Weigh in once a week9 -

Thanks, Vicky ❤
He sure is a good boy!
So hard to believe that someone abandoned him and that he was close to being euthanized because his number was up.
Here's the link for the bars:
https://www.loveandlemons.com/granola-bars-recipe/
I altered it a bit:
I used 2tbsp cacao powder instead of chocolate chips.
I chopped 1/3c ea almonds and pumpkin seeds in the food processor and added those.
These are delicious but I find they are really sweet. I think next time I make them I'll add more nuts/seeds and cut the amount of honey down a bit.
Hope you enjoy them if you make them!2 -
I'm a newbie, just started MFP today. After a long battle with thyroid disease, I recently had to get the entire thing removed due to cancer. My levels are looking good, and I'm finally confident that I have a fighting chance at losing this weight! I'm here for tracking and the support of all of you. I've been nosing about and the pictures and post are so motivational. My goals for the rest of August and into September are to replace sugary drinks with water, track and weigh in consistently, and possibly see my 2x shirts fit a bit looser My weight goal for the next 4 weeks is 5 pounds, but would of course be happy as a clam with more!13

Hello I'm Sarah, I'm on my second month of making life changes after a big scare with my boyfriend's health. I've always been overweight and always had an ED. So this time, I'm trying to do this the healthy way, slow permanent changes, no privation and plenty of exercise.
SW on July 1st: 268Lbs
SW on August 1st: 257.8Lbs
GW for August 31st: 250Lbs
GW: 140Lbs
Goals this months, be consistent in my workouts, switch out the electric bike for a regular bike for morning commute at least 2 times a week.
I weight in most days, but will only update on sundays.
August 1st - 257.8
August 7th - 263
There was a lot of fluctuations this week, due to starting my period, and less exercise due to heat and exhaustion.
However, this is a new week, I have more energy and will get back on the right track.
BUT there was a lot of non-scale victories this week. I sleep a lot better, snack way less, and my favorite clothes are getting looser.4 -

Don't forget you are also getting stronger and you are also replacing fat by muscles which weights a little more. Don't focus only on the scale, take some mesurements, takes some pictures you will start to see the changes soon enough too.2 -
It’s been 2 Months for me since I started my weight loss goals. I started off with eating better and cut out sugar. I am 210lbs I have been walking at least 40mins to 2 hours a day every day and when I don’t walk, I do about 26-40 mins Zumba and or I do swimming for an hour or 2. I don’t eat junk and I have 3 small meals a day. I am feeling so discouraged bc every time I get on the scale, I either weigh the same or it’s about 2-3 lbs down but fluctuates and goes back to the same weight. I’ve been working so hard I feel like no matter how hard I try, nothings working. 😢5

I forgot to mention I count calories. I’m doing between 1000-1200 a day calorie intake. With exercise that leaves plenty. What am I doing wrong1

I think you might be eating too few calories and putting your body in starvation mode. I would suggest re calcultating your Basal metabolic rate2 -
@sokaina - I would recommend increasing your calorie levels. I don't know your current weight/height but under 1200 calories is low for just about anyone. Also with the additional calories you are burning your body might need more.2

I'd echo what everyone else is saying and recommend that you change up your calorie intake, especially if you're exercising and not eating back those calories. Drinks loads of water and up your calories, even to just 1500 per day if the thought of increasing your calories freaks you out a bit.
You can also have MFP calculate your caloric needs by updating your goals. There's a guided setup you can use: https://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided4 -

@JuneyCleaves I checked out the link to the granola bars and yours look way more tasty! I'm going to try your version first.
How's your foster pup doing he's adorable but looks a little nervous - I'm sure you loved that out of him.3 -
@JuneyCleaves I thought the same thing and printed off the recipe. I want to try it this weekend.3

If anyone is looking for a delicious way to use up some leftover zucchini, I made the most delicious Zucchini Lasagna this past week - just under 400 calories for a (large) serving, so it’s not the lightest meal but it kept me full easily for 5-6 hours. And look - so pretty!
https://www.skinnytaste.com/zucchini-lasagna/13 -
@girlinkaz nice! I love a zucchini lasagna, it's just a bit of a PITA to prepare IME. Did you cut your zucchini with a knife or do you have a mandoline/other kind of slicer, and what did you do to remove the excess water?0
-
@goal06082021 I have a zucchini spiralizer that I usually use to make my own zucchini noodles (SO much better than the store bought kind in my opinion) and it has an attachment that worked to slice the long, thin slices. If I was doing it by hand, it would definitely have been a pain! Then I roasted the slices in the oven for 5-7 min and patted them down with a paper towel afterward to remove the excess water. It took a minute but I was making the sauce at the same time, so it didn’t extend my time in the kitchen - and I find it takes me a minute to blanch the regular noodles well without tearing them too 😂 So definitely not a “quick and easy” dinner but I had it for lunch 5 days in a row and I was happy every time I went to heat it up - which is a definite win for me. (Usually 3 days is the max I can eat the same meal)5
