I have been on and off this site for 6 years on the lose/ gain revolving door. I rejoined TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly) yesterday and came back here today. There are no in person TOPS meetings in my ares, so I am going online.. thankfully they have ZOOM meetings 3 times a week and a contact person for any questions. My very short term goal it to go down one size so I can fit into my size 20 jeans.. Good meeting all of you.5

Goals this months, be consistent in my workouts, switch out the electric bike for a regular bike for morning commute at least 2 times a week.
I weight in most days, but will only update on sundays.
August 1st - 257.8
August 7th - 263
August 15th - 256.7
August 22nd - 254.1
Slight loss this week, which I think is kinda surprising since I skipped the my Friday gym visit and went over my calorie budget 2 days in a row as well as barely making it out of my bed yesterday.
Today I went on a short walk with my s.o even though it's 32C outside. And he is testing my resolve with an amazing chocolate ice cream cake. I'm sure I won't reach my goal for this month but I think I might have overestimated my ability to be consistent with my workouts.5 -

Doing well. Keeping my calories at 1200 or under. Carbs at 15+/- 3. No hunger or cravings. Walking 5 miles 3x/week on my days off.
Today (8/22) its raining (and going to most of the day) so I dusted off my Elliptical, I haven't used since I broke my leg really bad in 10/15. Put on a TV show and did 72 minutes. I was sweating and exhausted but I did it! That time was picked as that is usually how long my first walk takes and is 3.4 miles. Elliptical said I was at 4.6 mph and did 5.5 miles!
I have a question. How accurate is MFP with the exercises? It said I burned 1001 calories! Usually I burn about 530 with my 5 mile, 3x/week walk total. Granted I was more tired than my 3-3.5 mph walks, but I was surprised at that number. I know its based on my daily weight.
Just wondering what others think, if it's pretty accurate.4 -
@pamiede so nice to read of your progress. So glad you have a way to monitor it now.
@holdthefries nice progress and glad you have a walking pal. Sometimes my husband or youngest like to walk with me and other times they flake out on me.
@kadohi Nice reaching your monthly goal early!
@girlinkaz I liked seeing your week’s list of meals. I have to plan my week ahead after this. I just made a big pot of homemade chicken soup so I would have ready some for after my surgery. I miss having a pool available. Enjoy your haircut etc.
@goal06082021 Glad you are seeing nice changes. I sometimes miss my goal too but when I look at my spreadsheet I realize that I am still under my TDEE even on my high days. Sometimes it helps to have a higher day here and there. Glad you cat is starting to eat again. We have twin tiger cats.
@HeatherBBetter I like those goals and NSV’s.
I agree with many of you that weight loss works much better when we 1st accept ourselves where we are.
@drj63 Congrats at getting and staying in Onderland. I identify with your description of being uncomfortable being the center of attention, and shying away from higher positions even when I was thin. My mother is a bit of a narcissist and I never wanted to be like her. I am getting better now. I finally have a job at my level. I am finally making what I am worth. However a lot came from getting older and more confident. I am still too heavy. In meetings I am quiet unless it is my project or there is something that needs to be said and no one is saying it unless it is just not my place to say it. You are making a lot of progress. Just take things one or 2 steps at a time. This isn’t only about weight loss for most of us.
@jazzdesigns nice job reaching your 1st weight goal!
@justanotherloser007 Congrats on reaching onderland!
@Imgoff232 Yes I had a rough week too and lost finally. I did eat healthy home cooked meals though and that always helps me but I was off on my water intake and sleep a few days this week. We got air filters when we had so much smoke last year. This year it mostly passed us by except for a day or so.
@57pattycake I am not sure you mean go back to work or back to in-person work. I always lose when I am not working and struggle when I am either way. I hope you do well with the transition.
3 more post since I posted just a while ago!
@Snapy15 We have the same monthly goal and we are making progress towards it. That is what counts more than actually making it exactly. Hope we both make it anyway.
@swimmom_1 your monthly goal is pretty ambitious but you are making great progress! Most think that MFP over estimates exercise calories. I actually feel if you are consistent with how you estimate and observe when you lose and when you don’t you can figure out what works for you. Almost everything is an estimate. I think you can get close with food if you weigh it etc. But our TDEE and BMR are just calculated estimates. That is why I use a spreadsheet. However I think for me eating at home helps me the best and that has nothing to do with numbers. It has more to do with how I cook with lower salt, good fats, whole grains and avoiding sugar and animal fats. However I applaud you trying to track closely.
Have a great week all!8 -
@KeriA
I was just curious what people think about the MFP exercise estimates.. I rarely eat back any of my exercise calories. Weight goal came about with my average monthly loss being about 10 lbs. My next 2 months, the goal is only 5 lbs as I figure it will start to slow down sooner than later. :-)2 -
Oh I forgot to mention that MFP gave me an ancient member award. Not sure if that is good or bad.4

This morning I felt like a champion! Yesterday I went grocery shopping and ended up putting a box of the giant sized swiss cake rolls in the shopping cart. They are so good! Especially frozen! Well, I took one look at the box and put it back on the shelf. I put some snack cakes in for my son and then grabbed the box of swiss cake rolls again and put them back in the cart. I started to walk away but then stopped and put the box back on the shelf before quickly exiting the aisle. It wasn't worth it. The feeling sickenly full just wasn't worth it. I bought fresh fruit and veggies and went home feeling pretty confident.
I don't feel like a champion right now. I overate at lunch today, and I definitely overate at dinner tonight. I just didn't think about it and did it. As a result I'm not feeling too hot right now and that's on me. It's interesting that I'm slowly learning that I need to stay focused on the choice that is in front of me, rather than the long-game. I can't go beyond that choice because if I do that then I get sidetracked and eat too many snacks and undo what's been done. That's not to say I can't get up tomorrow and do better then. I just have to make the choice to do so.
All that being said, I'm changing my goals...
1) To drink 100 ounces of water a day (Today I managed half of that...I'll work my way up slowly)
2) To stop eating after 8pm.
3) To log my calories of everything I eat, even if I go over my daily calorie goal. Right now it's more about becoming aware of what I'm eating rather than staying under my limit. PLUS I eat a lot of my calories after 8pm, so we'll see what happens.
4) To renew my mind and focus on the step ahead, no more and no less.6 -
@KeriA congrats on your ancient member award!! 🎉🍾1

Water and taking vitamins had been lacking with the uptick so working on them this week seemed to help. Weight back to where it was. Saw a preview 216 on Saturday.
Cat is doing okay on the med. Since she's always been a chunky cat - kitten to 16lbs really, I don't know what a normal weight for her is. She's lost a bit more weight so I'll need to check it after I weigh one day. She's eating but trying to get her to eat more. Makes me nervous.
Siding for the house is finally getting done this week. I'll have pretty much a whole new house once that and the gutter is done. Outside anyway as I had the roof done, that started the insurance claim, in May.2 -

Hi everyone. I stopped in here when I first started on MFP in May of 2021, but just started back doing groups this month. Here to reinterduce myself.
I'm Pamela. Age 41.
HW in Nov. 2018 was 321lbs. I lost 30lbs for my sister's wedding in March of 2019 and got down to 265 during lockdowns in 2020. Started to regain in April this year and on May 15th 2021 decided to get back to working on my weight again.
SW on MFP was 279.2 (Good 'cause I thought I had gained more than that. Was dreading that start weigh in cause I thought I had gotten back up to 286 which was my weight for almost my entire 20s and early 30s)
June 2021 SW: 271
July SW: 261.7
August SW: 253
CW: Aug 23, 2021: 248.3.
Hoping to get into the 230s by Christmas.
UGW 148.
Hoping to get to know everyone.
Thanks for reading about me and thank you for this group.2 -
How's everyone's week going?
I think I've mentioned it before in these threads but I work for a university, and the Fall 2021 semester starts Monday, so this is our big crunch week to get everyone cleared to start classes in a few days - Orientation starts tomorrow, and we're all working Saturday, too. The extra couple hundred from OT in my next paycheck will almost make up for not being able to get as much household adulting done this weekend as I normally do; thankfully, my freezer is filled to bursting with food, so I don't need to worry too much about not having as much time to cook.
I skipped my workout this morning. I slept like absolute dog poop, so once I got my husband's coffee and lunch together I just went back to bed for an hour and a half, got up and dressed, ate breakfast and headed out to work. I fully intend to boot up the Switch for some Ring Fit tonight, and I'll get some desk-cycling done this afternoon as well to bump up my NEAT a little.4 -
These last few days have been rough, I've been struggling mentally and my boyfriend tried to cheer me up with a nice chocolate cake but eating it made me feel guilty and spiral downward. I'm slowly getting back up. And unfortunately so has my weight.
I've cancelled my gym workouts for the week to try and focus on my mental health, but will still be Biking to work (and back home if not too hot) and doing my 10000 steps on top of that.5 -

Good evening all. I have roughly a hundred pounds to lose for better health. I'm 33yrs old and I have 6 kids 14 and under. As you can imagine my house is a mad house. I just wanted to introduce myself and see if I could scrounge up some friends to motivate and be motivated by. I recently decided to begin my weight loss journey after weighing in at 271lbs. That hit me like a blow to the gut. It has been gnawing at me and my health is headed south if I don't fix it soon. So here I am and I look forward to getting to know you all.10

Welcome @ThickMama1988 ! Six kids younger than 14 - WOW! I don't think I can even imagine that.
Feel free to add me as a friend and the support in this group is amazing.2 -
MFP update for the end of August 2021
Okay 👌🏾! All exams are done, all certifications are done and I'm finally on break! I've decided to take 2 weeks off from studying (totally need a mental health break) and I'm going to finish unpacking and arranging my place! 😏 I can also get back to reading and commenting on posts regularly! Thankfully, throughout this stressful period, I've still been tracking my foods and exercising (even if to just hit my steps goal while catching up on sleep!). My shopping 🛒 hiatus is also over and I've had a blast ordering stuff I want/need! Just got and put together a mini pantry cabinet 🗄(yesterday) since my place doesn't have a pantry! Receiving my TV 📺 stand (hopefully by Friday) this week and need to put together my media/DVD 📀 center (got that a couple of days ago, but want to put together the TV 📺 stand first) this weekend! I've gotten to put up some of my paintings on my walls, so I'm happy 😊 about that as well. ☺ I'm going to start a 3-day juice cleanse once I get my Suja juice order (maybe start Thursday if I get it today) and hopefully, get my weight back on track. I also started my 16:8 intermittent fasting on Monday and want to get my body and mind used to it over the next 2 weeks so that I can continue it once the term begins. ☺
I also started a 2 week Abs, Arms, Back, Butt and Thighs with Stretches Challenge on Monday! I put together a playlist on YouTube and I'm working through the list of workouts. ☺ Funny story.... After exams, I went skating ⛸ for the first time ever, and while trying to navigate, got slammed by a teenager and hurt my right elbow! 😏 I intend to go back and skate and have ordered knee and elbow pads for next time. ☺ It's taken almost a week and a half to get my right hand over my head etc. since the incident. I still can't do exercises that require me to hold my weight on the hand by itself (no weight work at all)! I am doing modified versions of the workouts though. ☺
I'll be back posting on the thread in September!! Great job on progress everyone! We've got this!8
