Definitely use pads for your wrists too, I found them helpful for catching myself. Done many kinds of skating, and I tell you what.. pebbles are real! They can get in your wheels and trip you up, way better to be prepared.1

@ThickMama1988 girl.. with 6 kids I'm surprised you have any hair on your head - this group is a kind motivating bunch with lots of knowledge and little judgement. Make sure you log in September first and start the monthly accountability posting. It's comforting to see most everyone have the same struggles, breakthroughs and losses - maybe not in that order sometimes!3

I just started back doing My Fitness Pal early this month, and I just found this group. Hello, I am Billie. My age is 23, though I will be 24 in September. My weight is 224.6, but I started out this month at 235. I am 5' even last time I checked at eighteen years old, and I am trying to eat less and exercise more. I live with my grandparents of 80 and 85 years old and my disabled brain injured aunt. She's find for the most part; just has trouble walking sometimes and with her thinking and temper. I help them out with cleaning and taking care of the house. My grandma cooks with my help, and I take out the trash most often unless I forget before dark and my grandpa does it. But I don't like him to to so because of his age and try to do it more often. It was these chores that got me realizing how out of shape I am. I was drinking up to 5 Dr. Peppers a day, now I am down to one. I have been eating less and drinking more water. Plus I have been exercising. I also take apple cider vinegar one tsp a day in 8 ounces of water without food. But I hope to have some moral support as I am ADHD and Bipolar and prone to moods.7

Welcome Billie, it sounds like you having a great month! It is very important for caregivers to take care of their physical and mental well being. It isn't necessarily the easiest thing to do either, just because it is easy to think that their needs are greater than your needs.
This morning I got up with the hubby at 5:30 am and went to the (world's most masculine gym with all the "rare" equipment) and even with rehabbing my lower back and hips found I could do the elliptical! Then I remembered, I think they originally made these for the broken people back in the day. Boy am I glad! Sometimes even walking is difficult, so I was happily surprised!4 -

I am happy to have exceeded my goal for this month. 65.1 lbs lost so far!!!! Onederland is in my sights!
I really enjoyed my week away in South Lake Tahoe last week. It was a bit smoky from local fires so we didn't get nearly enough hiking and lake time in but we enjoyed the getaway from work and the time with family. I tracked my food and ate above goal but still below maintenance and saw the results I expected.
I usually walk 4-5 miles weekday mornings before work. Today I shut off my alarm and fell back asleep which never happens. I woke up about the time I usually get home from my walk. I told myself that I just needed the extra sleep and I will hit the trail again tomorrow. I like to remind myself that this doesn't have to be a grind where I stress about getting my exercise and always eating below calorie goals. This is a lifestyle and I want to enjoy it. I do things that make me happy and I treat my body well.

@sandielewis2001 awesome progress, I'm glad you had a nice time! I really like the reframing of "I do things that make me happy and I treat my body well" - that's a good way to approach this. I am also part of the Exercise Before Sunrise crew, and twice now this week I've chosen sleep instead (although in both cases I still got in my planned exercise, just not at 6:30 AM like normal - "treating my body well" means getting both enough rest and enough movement, after all).
@justanotherloser007 I'm glad you found something that works for you! The elliptical is kind of hit-or-miss for me; sometimes my knees cooperate and it's fine, other times they're just weirdly out of alignment somehow and I can't find a comfortable stride, and after a while my toes eventually go numb (but that's just the nature of the beast - since you don't usually pick your foot all the way up off the platform, you're compressing it more and for a longer period than you would in the course of normal walking).1 -
I just almost had a heart attack! I had to go into the attic because it is so humid here the water pan from the A/C is overflowing, and last night I was like "during the day I will check it." Today I went to check it and was immediately looking at the sticker that says, "weight limit 250" I had to stop breathe and not panic. I just was sure that I was 250+ as I have been that weight for 25 years and this has stopped me from doing many many many things over the years. But I was like, I am under 200. Then I had to chant it, because I kept thinking "what if the scale is wrong" but then I was like yeah, but 50 lbs off? Maybe 10 tops. Even so I am safe. I did it, but I think only this thread would really understand. I still have to remember to breathe. This is harder than I expected to wrap my head around.11

It looks like I haven’t had a loss this week, but I was seeing numbers as low as 160.1 earlier this week - and my loss is hidden by pesky TOM! But, of course what matters is the overall progress, not what happens on weigh-in day. I have PCOS and only get my period once every 6-7 weeks so it only factors into my weigh-ins every second month. I’ll weigh in again at the end of the month to get my final loss for August - hoping for -5lbs for the month but we’ll see.
My pool has FINALLY opened back up this week and I couldn’t be happier. I love a good long swim on my day off and I haven’t been able to do that in 2 months. I also met up with a friend for a delightful 5 mile walk yesterday and have a meet up planned with some other people to go on a walk on Saturday. I am loving being able to see a few people here and there after 2 months of strict isolation!
I know I already posted pics of myself last week, but I got my hair cut and colored on Friday and I feel SO happy and I want to share my joy with you all. I haven’t felt this confident in YEARS - and while the reasons I am losing weight are for my health and to be able to live the lifestyle that I want, the added bonuses of feeling extra pretty are really fun. This choice reminds me to be brave, take risks, and embrace the life that I have been given.
I believe in you all, ladies! We can do this!

Its amazing what a new co!or can do for you! I've been there myself awhile back. I had a before and after picture and people thought I applied makeup for the after picture. Not sure if you did but the hair color has changed your complexion. More color in your cheeks and all. Not as pale. As Billy Crystal would save, "You look Mavelous!"2 -

I can totally relate @justanotherloser007. I have to keep telling myself I can do so much more then I could 3 months ago. I can go take a long walk in the woods without knowing if there's a place for me to sit and rest half way through. I'm about 44lbs from onederland myself and probably will for along time still see myself at 286lb because I was that size for 15+years.2

On our mini vacation we spent 2 days at a water park. I wore my swimsuit and basically looked like an apple with legs. I was horrified. I saw the stares and the pointing. I stayed in the pools and under the water as much as possible. At one point my son wanted to go down the water slide and I was legit afraid I wouldn't fit. My husband reassured me I would and I did but I hated having that thought!
I know the mechanics. I just have to follow them. I need to make that last switch over and do this. I hate how I am. I know people say embrace your body and love your body but I cannot embrace or love something that I have destroyed and is essentially destroying me. Gonna try again this week.
I find mantra/affirmations help me. Talk to yourself like you would talk to someone you really love.
Some examples:
I forgive myself.
I am at peace with my past.
I am proud of who I am becoming.
I am beautiful inside and out.
I am doing the best I can.
I am learning to love myself more every day.
I am a constant work in progress.
I focus on action to create the life I want. ...
I know my intuition will always take me in the right direction.
I adore my quirks because they make me unique.
I can become anything I put my mind to.
I can.
I am adventurous.
I feed my spirit.
I am in charge of how I feel and today I am choosing happiness.
I am my own superhero.
I will not compare myself to strangers on the Internet.
Choose 1 or 2 or more and say them to yourself when you wake up, through out the day and when you go to bed. And believe them (even if you don't) say it like you believe it! Make yourself believe it, like you would if you had a friend in need.

Anyone else have a problem with going full force then getting sick after? I did 50 sit ups in 3 minutes and got really dizzy and nauseous after. Had to walk around as I had chest pain, which walking made it stop. Before that I did some other exercises like a minute plank and 30 crunches in 2 minutes so it wasn't the first thing I did. Any ideas on how I can control myself? Maybe I should make an exercise plan and stick with it; doing 30 sit ups instead of 50 until I can handle it? Or trying to recognize when my body is at it's limit? If so, how do I tell if I'm at my limit in the middle of exercising? I am new to exercising so I don't know what my limit is. Last time I exercised really well was in seventh grade before I was home schooled.3

Once again, my goals are just a bit too lofty, but I'll take the ~3lbs lost this month and keep on truckin'. I'm less than half a pound from the -40 mark, which is awesome. This week was orientation for the college I work at, and there's about 5 big candy bowls between my office and the restroom - I succumbed to their siren call and ended up grabbing something almost every time I walked by all week. Not my finest hour, for sure. Work is providing lunch today, which is great in that I didn't have anything prepped to bring, but not great in that I don't know what it is and won't until it gets here. I think we're having our own dining services cater it rather than ordering from outside, which means it could be anything. I've got about 500 cal to play with for that when the time comes.
I do need to figure out what my workouts are going to look like for September. I don't know if I want to do another four weeks of Strong Curves, although I believe there is more in that line of programming I could do. I have decided that I want to be able to crush a watermelon between my mighty and powerful thighs (to have a goal to focus on besides the scale, and also just to be able to do that thing because God, can you IMAGINE having that kind of power? i want that for me). I have found a program designed to develop exactly that ability, but I don't know if I'm ready to start it right now. Maybe I'll start with just the stretches, I don't know.4 -

No, I believe you need to go back through the guided setup again to refigure your budget, but I also override MFP's calculations and set my goal manually so I'm not sure.
Your TDEE (the number of calories you burn on average in the course of a normal day of going about your business, including exercise) goes down by about 5 calories for every pound you lose, so after losing 20 lbs, that's 100 fewer calories. Meaning, that if your TDEE is 2000 to start with and you lose 20 lbs eating 1500 cal/day (so a deficit of 500), once you reach the -20lb mark, your TDEE is 1900. If you keep eating 1500 cal/day, your deficit will be only 400, so your loss rate will slow down a little (~0.8lb/week rather than ~1lb/week).pandemonium1997 wrote: »Anyone else have a problem with going full force then getting sick after? Maybe...don't do those things, if they make you feel sick? Making a plan--or better yet, finding and following a published plan by someone who knows what they're doing--is probably a good idea. What is your goal, what do you want your body to be able to do? If your goal is weight loss, exercise isn't actually necessary for that, and ab work in particular is not going to help you if you're trying to target belly fat - you can't spot reduce. Unless you specifically want to be able to do a million situps or whatever, there is no reason you HAVE to do them in particular - there's lots of ways to build core strength and situps/crunches are just two, IMO terrible, ways to do it.5 -

Woo-hoo! Goal achieved:-) I had the birthday for daughter #2 yesterday, and blew by my calorie goals for the day, but I was expecting it. I think I still managed to stay under for the week if I calculate Net calories from exercise. On a less positive note, I was feeling like crap all week again. Finally went into the dr, and it is not covid thankfully, just a random virus making my life miserable. They gave me steriods to help reduce my lymph node swelling, and today I am finally starting to feel better. Also, got the news on Thursday that my dad's cancer has returned, and the prognosis is very poor. So I have to figure out how to help him navigate all these end of life decisions and it is so overwhelming. He lives in Oregon and refuses to move in with me, and moving in with him with my 3 kids is not an option 😞9 -

@Jem594 since I re-started in January my calorie allotment only went down when I adjusted my height. I apparently have shrunk an inch.
@Pandemonium1997 it sounds like you are pushing yourself too hard which could cause you to give up altogether. I started out very slow this time as I was really out of shape. Before I re-started lifting my dumbbells I just did the arm movements first with no weights. Then I worked up to 3, 5, 7 and now 10 lbs. I still do not go full force with any exercise, but I’m okay with that. Anything is better than just sitting on the couch.

@Imgoff232 I’m sorry to hear about your dad. I dealt with that with my Mom who lived with us and passed away 12 years ago. It isn’t easy.

I had a loss of .8 pounds this week which gets me to my monthly goal! I would love to see under 224 before the end of the month which including today is only 4days away. It could happen. But either way I am happy. I know the last time I lost this weight – yeah not my first rodeo – I didn’t see much visual progress until after a 50lb loss. That’s 15lbs away so I hope to hit that by Halloween.

Oof! I am not quite as close to my goal as I'd like to be, but it's not out of reach, either. It feels like a challenge, actually I've recently started a 9-week Weight Loss Challenge and that is really keeping me motivated to not just workout, but to do a wide range of workouts that I wouldn't normally do. This is really helping me to not be bored with my workouts and I'm LOVING it!
I'm using a method called habit stacking to build healthy habits. This month I'm working on the following habits:
1.Drink 85oz 64oz of water daily- I've decreased my goal on this one to a more realistic amount. With this new goal, I often beat it by dinner time and then feel like a ROCKSTAR when I down more after that. This goal is supporting a healthy habit and giving me confidence to encourage me to keep at it.
2.Stay within my calorie goal 5x/week- I'm holding strong to this habit and am tracking and hitting my calorie goal at least 5x/week. This has really allowed me to give myself grace and not feel so deprived.
3.Move intentionally every day most days - I'm learning that everyday is a vast difference from what I normally do and it's overwhelmed me quite a bit. So I'm showing myself grace here, too, and trying to stay active more than I'm not (at least 4/7 rolling days)
4.Weigh in once a week- I'm not weighing in twice a week anymore like I was in the first part of August, which is great because I'm not so focused on that number. I've been trying to put more focus on how I feel, especially during my workouts.

Can feel myself becoming more full with less food.
Did a 3 mile hike last weekend when a month ago I could barely walk to the end of my street - I have DEFINITELY fallen in love with hiking! Tomorrow will be my third weekend hike in a row!
