well, this is the maintaining weight forum - so presumably people are already doing whatever they are doing to successfully maintain weight - or transitioning from whatever they successfully did to lose weight.
Meaning they are not likely to want to change whatever was working.
Why do you want to stay away from food at night?
I guess for some individuals that might be a good strategy - if you are prone to mindless after dinner TV snacking or suchlike.
I eat my main meal well into the evening - about 8:00pm would be my average - and usually a snack after that, say ,about 10 pm
NO problems with that for me - so ,no, not struggling or even trying at all, to stay away from night food.

I eat right up until bedtime (if I feel like it), so I don't have any experience with that - sorry!
I guess some people wake up hungry, get out of bed to eat, a few reportedly even sleep-eat. I've never experienced those, either.
A lot of people just save calories for some evening snacks, then work on finding snacks that fit in most easily, but are still satisfying. (What that is varies by person.) Others find that they crave fewer snacks in the evening (if they're trying to avoid eating then for some reason) if they experiment with what, when and what percent of their calories they eat in meals/snacks during the day. Sometimes a different routine can reduce cravings.
Feeling snacky in the evening can be partly from fatigue, since when the body starts to drag, it looks for energy, and food is energy. If that's the case for you, improving sleep quantity/quality may help. Stress can also increase fatigue so increase evening cravings; if that's part of it, other stress management strategies may be a more direct route to a solution.
Sometimes evening snacking is out of habit or boredom. Bad habits are usually easier to get rid of if we replace the undesired habit with a better one, rather than just trying to use willpower to quit. If that's the case, or if boredom is part of it, then resuming an absorbing old hobby, or starting a new one, can help. Particularly good for avoiding snacking are hobbies that either require clean hands (sketching, needlework, playing a musical instrument, etc.), or create dirty ones (gardening, painting, carpentry, etc.).
Good luck finding a solution!9 -

Hi, This group isn't for you then. I have been eating at night and it doesn't work for me, so I want to try something different and see how it goes. I would also want like minded people to come along with me so they can motivate me and I do thesame for them. So thanks for your view and hope you find what you are looking for on this MFP platform 🙏 😊8 -
This isn't a group; correct I wouldn't join a Stop snacking at night group.
it is an open thread - meaning anyone can comment or question on it.
I answered your question ' are you struggling to stay away from food at night'
I didn't realise you meant only answer if the answer is Yes.
My comment / question remains: why do you want to stop snacking at night? Or what about it is not working for you?
Because I think finding a solution depends on what the actual problem is.

If I find myself being bored-snacky, I brush my teeth and rinse with a strong mouthwash. Anything I try to eat or drink afterwards (other than water) tastes yukky9

This isn't a group though. It's a general thread that you created in the maintaining weight forum.
Perhaps look into setting up a group and then letting like-minded people know about it in a more suitable forum where people want or need to change their eating habits?
Here's a link to existing popular groups - https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/groups/browse/popular
Maybe you might find an existing group with a similar aim.5 -

I'm not sure how you start a group on here - but maybe post this in introductions and look for MFP friends for motivation 😊

lakinte1,
I think you're just getting pushback because you aren't familiar with the forums...
This is a subforum dedicated to maintaining weight, and I've been maintaining my 80 pound weight loss for over a decade AND I eat right up until bedtime.
However, when I was on a too-low calorie intake I struggled to not eat after dinner. Now I've just arranged my food so that I can have a good amount of food for dinner and dessert. I generally eat 400-500 calories for dinner, and a snack or dessert of another 250-400 calories within an hour of bed. That's what works for me...but when I was losing weight that would have been 2/3 of my daily calories so I would have had to skip breakfast (and that's what I did for a while so I could eat more later.)
I hope you find what works for you...maybe it's exercising in the evening? Exercise seems to blunt hunger for me.
Maybe a hobby? Keeping my hands busy works to stop me from mindless eating.
Another thing I did was say, "The Kitchen is closed," at a certain time. Brush teeth and don't go back in there - because it's Closed!
Good luck, lakinte19 -
...and, dangit. She hasn't posted since the 18th, ya'll...1

Just because someone is in maintenance doesn’t mean they have it all figured out. Maintaining is still challenging, and we all have find different aspects of maintenance challenging. Night eating doesn’t stop being tempting because you’re in maintenance. You don’t have to relate, but you’re wrong in stating most people here already know what’s working for them…basically suggesting her post was useless for this thread. I think what she means by “this group isn’t for you” is if the topic doesn’t apply, feel free to keep scrolling. You don’t need to suggest her post doesn’t belong here. You had a very condescending tone to be honest.7 -

What mouthwash do you use1 -
Some trolls are so bored they can't help themselves but strive to be centre of attention. Can people not just scroll on if a forum doesn't fit what they looking for..jeezz7

It's OKAY to eat at night as long as you have the CALORIES to spare for them. Since for many eating at night is a habitual behavior, I DON'T deter my clients from doing it. I just make sure they leave calories for snacking at night time. I myself eat up to 11:00pm most nights.

Who are you accusing of trolling because I just reread the thread and all anyone was trying to do was help.
Well, except me who can't resist a good one character played by many actors and actresses joke.

Evenings are my difficult time and have always been my downfall. I am working on getting past the rampant cravings I currently been feeling. Last thing I want to do is gain back the 55 lbs I have lost. Old habits. Today was good. A cup of hot tea and some portioned pretzel snacks have ended my eating for the day. I feel more in control than I have in the past week. I know what to do - but sometimes it’s just getting the brain to cooperate.6
-
I also crave food at night and it makes me gain weight easily. I can keep it to fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, a handfull of nuts, it doesn't matter. If I eat anything past 6 or so I will not lose weight or even gain weight back. Since I eat my dinner so early I am starving by the time I go to bed! Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue.1

I’m trying for no calories between dinner and breakfast so a 12 hour fast
Not sure if that’s considered IF but it does help with maintaining my weight
Right now I’m up 5 lbs, from a 10 day vacation, so it’s back to HIIT Cardio
Also love the after dinner tea 🫖
has really helped with late night overeating

Late-night snacking isn't the problem, it's the fact that said snacking isn't planned for in advance and not (for lack of a better term) "budgeted" for within one's daily calories. Rather than rage against hunger and eating before bed, incorporate a bedtime snack into your routine and include it when you plan out the rest of your day. Personally, I have a casein protein shake and a big spoon (40g) of peanut butter shortly before bed. Knowing I have this coming helps keep me from grazing between dinner and bedtime, too. There are also days when I have a heavier lunch or dinner than I originally planned I reduce or eliminate the peanut butter portion to compensate.13

In my experience, it really doesnt matter when you eat. Its calories in vs calories out.
I used to not eat after 6pm which I guess was fine, but it was hard not giving into cravings etc.
Now I eat between 2pm and 10pm because I figured out that's when I'm naturally hungry and when I burn most of my calories at work. I dont binge because I've been fighting hunger(because I've been fasting during the time when I'm not really hungry anyway) so when my eating window comes around, I just eat until I'm full, I dont have to cut anything out entirely. I just have to loosely calorie count to make sure I'm staying on track.
50lbs later, I only have about 35lbs left to go.

So I guess people that work the night shift are just out of luck if you can't eat at night lol7

I eat breakfast before I'm really hungry
last night I skipped after dinner ice cream
My daily calorie count in range, SO Celebrating in Oregon 🥳
Today with added oils, my fat count is rising fast
I count calories, fat, fiber
And water, veggies
Everyone has their on routines and mine is going well at the moment
Enjoy your journey

I know it's so hard not to eat at night after a stressful evening. I am going to start to write down everything I put in my mouth. I have never done that but I am going to start on Monday.3
-
*snip* < we'll just delete what I wrote in an effort to practice what I preach.
I'll rephrase. It's okay to say "I'm having an issue I'm trying to resolve. Does anyone else have the same problem? Can we be friends and support each other? I need a daily boost to my resolve". It's okay to use WHATEVER tool you can find to make your path a successful one. I'm just deeply sorry you failed to find that here.
@lakinte1 if you ever come back, you can send me a friend request. Everyone's story and struggle is different, but they're all equally valid. I have some strategies to curb cravings when they hit, and some things I've learned to employ in everyday meal planning to avoid cravings and snack urges altogether for the majority of the time. You can do this! It's not even that hard

I still can't quite figure out what the problem is. Snacking that is causing too many calories? Belief that eating at night impacts weight loss?
I eat dinner on average around 8PM. On occasions that I end up eating earlier...like 6 PM, I find myself wanting to boredom snack later while watching TV...so most of the time I just eat dinner around 8PM while my wife and I settle into a t.v. program. I'm usually in bed by 9:30 or so to read and doze off to sleep.5 -
When my urge to snack all night returns it is a clear sign of one thing:
I need to go to bed and I'm not getting enough sleep in general. So, check your sleep and focus there. Your body is gonna demand energy from somewhere and if you're not getting enough sleep that 'somewhere' is going to be food.5
