@shanaber I did read the blog post. It's very insightful. I enjoyed the read and hope I can incorporate some of her insights into my running, when I get back to it.3

I was not feeling it this morning. It was 70°F this morning with 100% humidity and a dew point of 70°. I know I have run in hotter weather, but it just felt gross this morning. The plan called for 5 miles in 48 minutes with a 9:32 pace. I ended up running 5.2 miles in 55 minutes at a 10:36 pace. I felt really good about the run. I wasn't really feeling it when I started out and the first 2 miles were pretty meh. The first mile came in right at an 11:00 pace. So I decided to go for negative splits. I ended up with 11:00, 10:54, 10:46, 10:31, and 10:01. The last .20 was at a 9:31 pace. So I felt really good about it. I felt better and better as I ran and it was definitely a run that even though I was tired and not feeling it in the beginning I was enjoying it by the end and was glad I got out there.

Welcome back @TheMrWobbly!
How's your blanket going @marisap2010? Hopefully you are getting some sleep too.
@quilteryoyo I'm glad you felt improvement after your adjustment and back exercises! Hopefully you'll be back running very soon. That was a very nice pic with your mom. And yes, I'm always extremely happy to see that finish line, even though my pictures rarely show that.
@skippygirlsmom you are doing fantastic with your early morning running. Way ahead of goal. Hope things will settle down for you a little bit.
@kgirlhart I agree - you're ready. The nerves are so normal when you've put so much into it. Good luck! You've got this!
@martaindale enjoy some extra taper. I really believe in an extended taper to really feel fresh. You've put in the work so keep it easy and be ready to go on race day!
@shanaber I read your friend's blog post. So impressive to be able to accomplish that and really insightful thoughts about it. I particularly like her last point "Put your all into what you do, but do not be defined by it." I think this is so important to remember in running and in other parts of life so that not reaching a goal or milestone does not equal failing as a person. I also loved that she said "I could use the time to finish in a way that my soul would be proud of" and being a good person/member of the community and not just focused solely on making or not making her time. Beautiful words to remember.
Good running and commitment to yourselves, everyone.

I felt much better this morning after a good night's sleep. My vaccine arm was sore but otherwise felt good so I went to yoga class. I didn't have time to run before and it was pouring rain out - all day long was 100% chance of rain and that came true - so I took a little extra time for a short run on the treadmill after class to get it done.7 -
Thanks @katharmonic . Glad you are feeling better today.1

Cloudy, mid 40s F, with little drizzle and a light northeast wind. Felt significantly better than yesterday, even though I got my heart rate up to 178 bpm.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

4 x tempo miles this morning (target pace - 6:51/ mile). Hit them in 6:49.8, 6:50.5, 6:55.4 and 6:46.1. After really struggling in the third, I was surprised to run the fastest of them all on the fourth. Heart rate did climb a little too high on the first and fourth miles, which I chalk up to not being able to run yesterday because of the heavy rains. My heart rate does tend to climb higher than usual on runs following days off.

I did my run in the evening yesterday, so quite a bit warmer than usual but the humidity had a chance to burn off, which helped so much. Because it was such a short run, I pushed my pace a little. I have been going at basically the same easy pace for months just getting my base built back up. I am not racing my upcoming HM for a PR so I didn't worry too much about speed work. I can tell I am slower than this time last year because of the lack of speed work. I figured a little pace pushing just to stretch those muscles a little would be fine over a couple of miles. It feels good to work in that way after so many months of just battling endurance and heat. I averaged a 9:15 pace which is a solid 1-2 minutes a mile faster than I've been pacing.6 -
I haven’t posted in a bit because I am having lupus problems and it makes me depressed. Still having vasculatis, speckled feet, minor pain and aches, and fatigue. Ran my “long run” Sunday which is only 10k easy and it was really hard, at my slowest pace. From past experience it’s a good idea to do whatever I can do during a flare, if I ease up on exercising I just lose fitness and it doesn’t help the flare. But I am pretty much instantly sick of it.
Tuesday was a little better, ran 5 miles easy trails. We’re supposed to get rain tonight and the next three days, but Tuesday was about as perfect running weather as it could be. Was even dry afterwards!11 -

My Half Marathon is just 10 days away and the taper has begun. Today the plan was for 3 miles in 26 minutes at HM race pace of 8:43 min/mile. I ran 3.4 miles in 32 minutes at a 9:25 pace which is race pace for me. It's actually a little quicker than race pace and I hit 3.1 miles at 29:14 so I felt really good about the run. It wasn't so hot this morning. We had some storms overnight and the rain was just ending as I was getting up and it was cooler when I finished than when I started. Tomorrow will be a 6 mile run which will be my last long run before the race. I'm starting to get excited. 😊
Thanks @katharmonic! I'm glad you're feeling ok after the booster.
@rheddmobile I hope the flare passes and you feel better soon.

Yesterday was my rest day.
Today: 5.4 miles on the RTP trails.
135.5 for the month out of 125. Guess I underestimated a little bit.5 -
Today’s plan called for 10 min run at 11:13-11:23 mi/min, with abs optional additional 10 minutes. I had planned to do the whole thing because 10 minutes doesn’t feel like I’m doing much, but I was late getting to the gym due to a phone call and only had time to do the 10 min with warmup and cooldown before my kickboxing class. I ran on the treadmill at what was supposed to be 11:19 pace, but Garmin kept saying I was too fast, and at the end it said my overall pace was 11:00. I don’t know if the treadmill is off or if Garmin was just wonky today.5
-
Glad your run today felt better than yesterday @Tramboman .
Nice @johnisrunning !
@martaindale That's a great increase in pace!
@rheddmobile I hope the lupus flare up goes away soon. It's good that you are still getting your runs in.
Nice run @kgirlhart ! You're going to do great on you HM.
@marisap2010 My Garmin never matches the treadmill since I don't have the foot pod. I go with the time and distance/pace of the treadmill and calories from the Garmin. Nice running.
The chiropractor gave me the okay to do a test run today. So, when I got home, I did 2 miles on the treadmill. He made me promise to be honest with myself and to stop and just walk if it hurt. I basically did that. I did feel a quick twinge a couple of times, but since it only lasted a second or two, I kept running. I did have some pain on my cool down walk, but it feel fine now. I'll discuss with him tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe walk/run every other day until it doesn't hurt at all to do either. We'll see. It felt good to be able to run and sweat a bit. It's been two weeks.6 -
Quick check in, but @rheddmobile sorry about your lupus flare. Good for you for getting a run in, because I'm sure it would be hard to do.
@kgirlhart enjoy your last long run tomorrow and the start of your taper.

Tonight I went to HM/marathon group and the workout was 1 minute intervals x 16. 90 seconds recovery between for first 6, 60 seconds recovery between for the rest. This is probably my favorite workout, or least dreaded speedwork at any rate. But usually we do it on the track and you just keep circling 60 seconds hard, 60 easy. But the track was not available tonight so we had to improvise on a side road/parking area and run out 30 seconds and back 30. I hate doing that turnaround in the middle. But still, it was a good workout and nice night. I had to leave early so didn't do the sprints and only a short cooldown to jog back to my car, so mileage a little low tonight.
I'm excited that I should break 100 miles this month though - finally! I haven't done that since May.8 -
@quilteryoyo glad to hear you got cleared to do a test run and it went (mostly} ok. Walk/run every other day sounds like a good plan. Take it slow.4
-
@rheddmobile - I am sorry you are having a flat but so glad it is getting better enough that you could get out for a run!
I hope your back continues to improve @quilteryoyo!'
I haven't gotten to run the last couple of days and it doesn't look good for tomorrow or Friday... There is just too much going on here. I have gotten lots of exercise though moving furniture and cleaning. Soon, less than 2 weeks, we will be back in our own house! I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again and get back to our regular routines!7 -

Thursday is road day due to schedules. Glorious, cool morning. 51°F at the start.
6.6 miles @ 9:33 pace on a combination of roads and greenways. I did 6x10 second strides with 1:00 recovery jog after mile 5. It feels really good to get the legs moving fast again.
6 -
Nice running @katharmonic !
Thanks @Scott6255 and @shanaber.
@shanaber So glad things are going well. I know you will be so happy to be back in your own house. Hobbes probably will be too.
You're doing great @johnisrunning and @CarsonSurfs .

7 miles this morning. Thought it would be colder this morning than it actually was, since it was in th upper 50's and 20+ mph wind. So wore a long sleeve shirt, and I was very hot after the 1st mile. But legs felt much better. Just hard fighting that wind.
4 -
6 miles for me this morning. No wind but was a little chilly at 42F. Rain is moving in later today and I'm traveling tomorrow after work so I have Saturday and Sunday to meet my goal. I think I have about 17 miles to go...3
