Today’s plan called for 10 min run at 11:13-11:23 mi/min, with abs optional additional 10 minutes. I had planned to do the whole thing because 10 minutes doesn’t feel like I’m doing much, but I was late getting to the gym due to a phone call and only had time to do the 10 min with warmup and cooldown before my kickboxing class. I ran on the treadmill at what was supposed to be 11:19 pace, but Garmin kept saying I was too fast, and at the end it said my overall pace was 11:00. I don’t know if the treadmill is off or if Garmin was just wonky today.5

Glad your run today felt better than yesterday @Tramboman .
Nice @johnisrunning !
@martaindale That's a great increase in pace!
@rheddmobile I hope the lupus flare up goes away soon. It's good that you are still getting your runs in.
Nice run @kgirlhart ! You're going to do great on you HM.
@marisap2010 My Garmin never matches the treadmill since I don't have the foot pod. I go with the time and distance/pace of the treadmill and calories from the Garmin. Nice running.
The chiropractor gave me the okay to do a test run today. So, when I got home, I did 2 miles on the treadmill. He made me promise to be honest with myself and to stop and just walk if it hurt. I basically did that. I did feel a quick twinge a couple of times, but since it only lasted a second or two, I kept running. I did have some pain on my cool down walk, but it feel fine now. I'll discuss with him tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe walk/run every other day until it doesn't hurt at all to do either. We'll see. It felt good to be able to run and sweat a bit. It's been two weeks.6 -
Quick check in, but @rheddmobile sorry about your lupus flare. Good for you for getting a run in, because I'm sure it would be hard to do.
@kgirlhart enjoy your last long run tomorrow and the start of your taper.

Tonight I went to HM/marathon group and the workout was 1 minute intervals x 16. 90 seconds recovery between for first 6, 60 seconds recovery between for the rest. This is probably my favorite workout, or least dreaded speedwork at any rate. But usually we do it on the track and you just keep circling 60 seconds hard, 60 easy. But the track was not available tonight so we had to improvise on a side road/parking area and run out 30 seconds and back 30. I hate doing that turnaround in the middle. But still, it was a good workout and nice night. I had to leave early so didn't do the sprints and only a short cooldown to jog back to my car, so mileage a little low tonight.
I'm excited that I should break 100 miles this month though - finally! I haven't done that since May.8 -
@quilteryoyo glad to hear you got cleared to do a test run and it went (mostly} ok. Walk/run every other day sounds like a good plan. Take it slow.4
-
@rheddmobile - I am sorry you are having a flat but so glad it is getting better enough that you could get out for a run!
I hope your back continues to improve @quilteryoyo!'
I haven't gotten to run the last couple of days and it doesn't look good for tomorrow or Friday... There is just too much going on here. I have gotten lots of exercise though moving furniture and cleaning. Soon, less than 2 weeks, we will be back in our own house! I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again and get back to our regular routines!7 -

Thursday is road day due to schedules. Glorious, cool morning. 51°F at the start.
6.6 miles @ 9:33 pace on a combination of roads and greenways. I did 6x10 second strides with 1:00 recovery jog after mile 5. It feels really good to get the legs moving fast again.

Nice running @katharmonic !
Thanks @Scott6255 and @shanaber.
@shanaber So glad things are going well. I know you will be so happy to be back in your own house. Hobbes probably will be too.
You're doing great @johnisrunning and @CarsonSurfs .

7 miles this morning. Thought it would be colder this morning than it actually was, since it was in th upper 50's and 20+ mph wind. So wore a long sleeve shirt, and I was very hot after the 1st mile. But legs felt much better. Just hard fighting that wind.

6 miles for me this morning. No wind but was a little chilly at 42F. Rain is moving in later today and I'm traveling tomorrow after work so I have Saturday and Sunday to meet my goal. I think I have about 17 miles to go...3

Today's run was the last long run before the Half. The plan called for 6 miles in 57 minutes at a 9:27 pace. I ran 6 miles in 60 minutes with a 9:59 pace. It was a really nice run. The weather was cool and pretty windy so like @scott6255 I was expecting it to be cooler than it was. I almost wore sleeves, but decided at the last minute on shorts and a tank top. I was glad too because I would have been too warm in sleeves. I saw another runner and she was wearing long pants and a bulky sweatshirt. I would have been roasting in that outfit.
It was a lovely run. There were lots of stars out. I wasn't trying to keep Hal's pace, I just ran. But I was pretty speedy for me and I really felt like I could keep on running. I also ordered new shoes this week. I wasn't sure I would get them in time for the race, but they arrived yesterday so I had time to try them out. It always feels good to run in new shoes.
Today's run put me over my goal of 111 miles. The taper has begun and I only have 3 runs before the race. Two four milers and one two miler. I am trying to stick to the taper, but the 2 mile run is on Sunday. That is when I do my long runs and I am afraid that 2 miles will be extremely unsatisfying. So I might run 4 or 5. That is still less mileage. But I will keep it short and easy so I will be well rested for next weekend. Plus I have to finish my quilt this weekend.

@kgirlhart nice shoes!

Glad you were cleared to do a test run @quilteryoyo!
Tonight’s run was 20 minutes at an 11:13-12:13 pace. With warmup and cooldown, I got 2.28 miles.
Saturday I am running a 10K that I do every Halloween. It raises money for a group that helps to support families of children with cancer. Everyone wears costumes or Halloween themed shirts, and it is a lot of fun.7 -
@Scott6255 Way to get out there and run in the wind. Glad your legs felt better. I love your new profile picture.
@Teresa502 Nice run. Have safe travels. With all of your running, I'm sure you can make 17 miles in two days.
@Tramboman I hope you have warmed up by now. I'm like you and it takes me forever to get warm when I get really cold/chilled.
@kgirlhart The way you are running, you are going to kill that HM next weekend! Love the new shoes too!
Thanks @sweetdaisy13 ! Great job on the hill repeats.
@skippygirlsmom Glad Skip is okay.
Thanks @marisap2010 . Nice run. Enjoy your run on Saturday. Sounds like a great cause and a fun race. Of course, you'll have to share a picture of you costume.
The chiropractor visit today went a little better than expected. I was afraid he would be concerned that there was more tightness and a little more pain for a bit after the run. But, no. He said that is to be expected and I am fine to run short distances right now...2 - 2.5 miles and walk every other day. So, I walked 2.0 miles on the treadmill this evening.

Lovely weather again. A storm blew through the night before so in addition to the cooler temps, I got a reprieve from the humidity. Nice easy taper run in the dark. I went down further on a road I never run on. I don't know why I have never gone that way. It was nice to mix it up a bit. Always running in the neighborhood can get me into a rut of doing the same paths all the time. I'm thinking I might do a version of that run every street in your town thing for my neighborhood. It would force me onto side streets I never use and maybe I'll discover an area I really like.
Going camping again this weekend right after work. It's going to be beautiful this weekend with highs in the low to mid 70's and lows in the 40's and sunny. I am so excited to get outside! It is a small state park and I am doing a 6-ish mile trail run that will cover most of the trail they offer. I'll have to remember my phone so I can take some pics.I saw another runner and she was wearing long pants and a bulky sweatshirt. I would have been roasting in that outfit.
Started seeing that this week too. It's so funny how bundled up I see people during the first temp drop! It is still only low to mid 50's in the wee hours of the morning. I would be sweating before the warmup was done!
@shanaber I read your friend's blog post. So insightful and something I needed to hear.
@rheddmobile So sorry to hear you are dealing with a lupus flare. I'm so impressed with your resolve and your ability to get a run in. I hope you feel better soon.
@quilteryoyo It sounds like you are on the mend. Glad to hear you are feeling better.4 -
Apparently, I have not run 6x800s in over a month...
I decided to compare today's results to every other set of 800s I've run in this training cycle (including one set that was 2x800, 2x tempo miles, 2x800) and the results are in the chart here:
The target is about 3:08.5, so everything faster than that is colored in green, while times slower than 3:10 get marked in red.
As you can see, this was probably my most successful set, though cooler weather probably plays more of a factor than just improved fitness alone. Still, it's the right direction...

4 easy trail miles @ 11:55 pace
I went completely rogue today.
There is a property across from the RTP trails that I usually run that has a tremendous trail system, but it was recently announced that it was purchased by Apple for their East Coast Campus. They have put up wooden gates at the entrance and No Trespassing signs everywhere. Well, they are not even close to starting construction (and I doubt they will for a long time given the current state of affairs) and they haven't even submitted for permits yet. I know this because my wife is an Architect and knows how to find that information. She says that for a project that size, it will probably take 2 years to get all the permits approved, so I don't there is any way that we will see shovels in the ground before 3 years at the earliest. So, I said "*kitten* it" and ran through there anyway. The whole property is probably 4 times the size of the RTP trails across the street. I think that I can probably do 10 to 15 miles over there without retracing any trails.

25 minute run! (Previous post-illness best was 22 minutes.)
But after I'd had an electrolyte drink, a coffee and a shower, my eyesight had a big "flash" in the bottom right of my vision.
It was really worrying me. I decided to have a quick bite to eat then head to the hospital.

@CarsonSurfs - sometimes it is good to just run where you know it works and enjoy it while you can!
@orphia - glad that issue resolved itself - hope you are ok!
Glad some of you have enjoyed the blog post - it really resonated with me.
No running since Monday. Too much going on along with very hot weather again. Tomorrow both should let up a little so I can get out for a short one at least. Monday we head up the coast to Cambria and I am hoping to get a couple of runs or hikes in there with friends!.

Have you ever had ocular migraines? Your description doesn’t sound exactly typical but it’s the only thing I can think of which would go away with eating.3 -
Still having lupus problems, did 5k easy plus a long walk tonight. Should have been yesterday but I really wasn’t feeling 52 F and raining with a stiff wind. So waited until the rain had stopped. I will have to run in cold windy rain eventually but not right now!
I mentioned this on the other thread but it’s too groovy not to share here too. I have a family of raccoons which lives in my backyard and they have been entertaining me all year. Babies mostly grown up now. The other night they were squealing and carrying on as if there was a big fight, so I poked my head outside, and there, fighting with my usual lot, was an albino raccoon! It’s about the same size as the babies born last spring and a true albino, pink eyes and everything. I wanted to get a photo so I threw a bunch of marshmallows out to keep them occupied while I got my phone, and they decided they would set aside their differences and eat together.
Anyway, the albino was back again when we got home from running tonight! It’s so cool having it around. I looked it up and they are not as rare as some albino animals but still pretty rare, about one in 10,000.
This is the weirdo next to one of my local babies.7 -

But after I'd had an electrolyte drink, a coffee and a shower, my eyesight had a big "flash" in the bottom right of my vision.
It was really worrying me. I decided to have a quick bite to eat then head to the hospital.
As soon as I'd eaten something it got better!
What's that all about?
I used to get flashing a lot, sometimes for up to 10 seconds. Used to freak me out. I was told it was related to blood pressure - mine used to be highish (naturally occurring hypertension) and since having baby number 2, which fixed my hypertension (don’t know how but it did - weirdly) I rarely get it. Only when I get up suddenly, which reinforces the idea that it’s blood pressure related (although in this instance my blood pressure is probably low). Worth chatting to your GP about but not something I’d rush off to ER for.7 -

October Goal: 150k
Low 50s F with rain , drizzle, and just a little wind. Almost stepped on a fox squirrel that was running from a car in the street and saw a huge flock of blackbirds -- probably a couple of thousand. Going to be short of goal again, but daily runs start in November and continue through March.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
