Less Alcohol ~ NOVEMBER 2021 ~ One Day At A Time
Replies

I ended with 16AF days for October. My ongoing goal is 16-20 AF days.
November 28th 2018 was when I started on this thread. My late Dad's birthday.
I have learned to drink less over the past 3 years, although it was very tough at first weaning myself off of being a daily drinker.
Diary style is how I roll and keep track.
Monday November 1 - AF - Friday possible drinks day. Trying to topload this month instead of scrambling for AF days at the end of the month.
Tuesday November 2 - AF - "School" night.
Wednesday November 03 - AF - I really struggled with it, being AF. My trigger was having a day off the next day. So much self-talk: you will look better tomorrow, your weight will be down, your planned day is Friday before having Saturday off. So many split shifts, just tired and willpower questionable. Pulled it off.
Thursday November 04 - AF - Friday is a planned drinks day.
Rolling total: 4AF days out of 4 days.5 -
I feel good that I am back to AF days and possible planned alcohol days, just not today. I am noticing my craving for chocolate has skyrocketed. I will be happy when my Halloween candy is gone LOL
Nov 1 - 3 drinks
Nov 2 - AF
Nov 3 - AF
Nov 4 - AF
Nov 5 - plan to be AF7 -
OMG a puppy😭 it is precious.
I am missing my pup that passed early September. Gets a bit better everyday.
Just put together a hot coffee with some chocolate bitters. Best of both flavors. So YUMMY.
I'm so far this month going with my same goals as October.
Drink day, one day a week.
No more than two standard drinks.
At the high end that would be 8 drinks tops.
A super happy number for me compared to 2017 which could add up to 8 drinks in one evening. 😵
Back out to raking leaves....9 -
Late to the November party, here! But I have read all your posts. So interesting and inspiring reading the various accomplishments (half marathon, long work days, AF streaks, new pets, new fitness toys) & thoughts (having more fun AF, dealing with mothers -I feel that one, dopamine/brain chemicals- I feel that one too!, observations about the first few days AF and looking back after a year+ AF). You guys cover it all! I used to be a daily drinker, and just cutting out weekdays was a big step forward for me. I am not terribly consistent at stopping at 2 drinks, but that first step of keeping it to weekends fostered a perspective that helped me understand and manage weekend temptations. My goal, more specifically, is to feel satisfied and delighted with 2 drinks vs. white knuckling the limit and feeling deprived when everyone else is having more. Work in progress!
October was a blur. Lots of travel, lots of fun. Probably drank every day but I'm not really sure. Did not track food intake, either. Ready to settle down at home and into my comfortable routine in November.
November goals:
M-Th AF
F-Su 2 drink max (with delight)
DH last night said he is going to slack off on alcohol for a while primarily for weight control. Not sure what "slack off" means exactly, but his abstaining always helps me moderate, so I hope to have the wind at my back this month.

Hi everyone.
Congrats to so many of you for hitting your goals.
Initially my plan was AF until Friday then reassess. Well it’s Friday and I’m still AF 😁
So many super informative posts have helped me to realise that rushing home from a 12 hour day and downing a drink to ‘relax into the weekend’ wasn’t productive or enjoyable. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Open to enjoying a few glasses with my husband tomorrow evening but again … I’ll see when I get there!!
Thank you so much for sharing everyone8 -
Nov 1 - AF
Nov 2 - AF
Nov 3 - AF
Nov 4 - AF
Nov 5 - 2 bottles of white wine...
Well, I was expecting that...I'm used to whiskey so wine won't do much. I was with friends, I had fun and I enjoyed myself. I want to be at peace with it and tomorrow is another day to get back on track. But I don't know why I always feel so guilty when I over indulge...
@jonsek Way yo go on having a sober Friday!!8 -
5 bottles of really nice wine opened last night with DH & I sitting around the table with my son & DIL visiting from Austin. I sipped slowly on 3 glasses and stopped.8

So far this month I’ve been able to moderate drinking. Had only one glass after work with co-workers Thursday, and one delicious Pumpkin Mimosa with lunch yesterday. Pumpkin purée topped w/Prosecco with a sugar rimmed glass. Yum! Wasn’t gaggingly sweet. But, yay me for not also having a glass of wine while I cooked dinner!!!! That’s a huge win.
Totally ate too much yesterday. Lunch was a late one, and even though I ate salad, I wasn’t hungry for dinner. The roll that came with it didn’t help. Roasted Brussels Sprouts and shrimp came out great, but I wasn’t even hungry. Had some anyway because shrimp doesn’t keep. Oh, and meanwhile I made a big pot of homemade split pea soup, which of course “required” me to eat a bowl before I went to bed.
So, I rolled Into bed fat and happy. Weight is up, unsurprisingly. I can’t even look at breakfast this morning!
Someone mentioned craving chocolate when cutting down on alcohol. Yes, totally this! In addition to all those brain chemicals , I think our bodies also get used to the little sugar rush. Chocolate is a great substitute, and the craving for jt doesn’t last forever.10 -

Friday November 05 - 2 1/4 drinks. The last of which I had in the tub watching HGTV with my big TV pulled up close. Awesome day off Thursday, got a tonne of winterizing done in the yard. Saturday off then back to splits.

I craved gummy bears.
I ate pounds and pounds of gummy bears when I gave up wine.7 -
Did someone mention chocolate? Isn't that in the top 10 best alcohol substitutes in the world!
I'm staying AF. Feeling a bit irritable and I may run out to get hot chocolate to fix that if I can find one that has no bad chemicals and is lactose-free.
It's all about the strategy!7 -
Proud of me stayed AF last night, it was really a close call. We went out for a late lunch and DH knows how eating out tempts both of us. So the compromise? We chose Olive Garden since we have only had a glass of wine there once in the way past, it is not our normal drinking out/ food spots. It made it so much easier to just stick to water. Once home the crisis was over. BUT not for chocolate....again. But thankfully that halloween candy is nearly gone and I can relax.
We are still on the fence about having something today. But right now I am content without.6 -
11/1 - AF
11/2 - 1 small glass of wine
11/3 - AF (plan for another AF day - Plan worked! Planning for another):)
11/4 - 1 drink (didn't "need" it, habit?)
11/5 - 2 (make that 3) drinks, not bad for a bowling night... almost forgot, had a white claw after getting home.
11/6 - planning to be AF today (it still early, will update in the morning)6 -
AF at the baby shower which was easier than you might think ... even though we had lots of alcoholic drinks we also had many non alcoholic options Okay everyone agreed Ritual zero proof tequila (made of green bell peppers and pepper corns I believe) tasted terrible in the margaritas but they liked the Spanish Zero Codorniu non alcoholic champagne /cava.
Almond Tea was a hit!
Serves: 16
Ingredients:
1 1⁄2 quarts water (6 cups)
2/3 cups sugar (optional)
1 (6 oz) can frozen lemonade concentrate,
Undiluted Juice of 1 lemon (I use 2 TB)
Grated peel of 1 lemon
2 cups strong tea or 1 family size tea bag plus 2 cups water
1 TB vanilla
1 TB almond extract
Instructions:
Combine water and sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add lemon juice and peel. Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Add lemonade concentrate and tea or tea bag and water. Bring to a boil, and then remove from heat. Remove tea bag if used. Stir in vanilla and almond flavorings. Serve tea warm or cold. Sweeten with sugar substitute if sugar is omitted.

This was my evening out. First time trying this and it was good.
AF on my "given" drink night. Go figure huh?5 -
Nov 1 - AF
Nov 2 - AF
Nov 3 - AF
Nov 4 - AF
Nov 5 - A Big binge on wine...I felt bad the next day, headache and such. But I am done beating myself up because of that. Tomorrow is another day to make better choices.
Nov 6 - AF6 -
First week of November: 4 days AF, 3 days a couple of drinks (2-3, not to excess)
Goal for next week is 5 days AF.4 -
Nov 1,2,3 AF
Nov 4 - wine - 2 glasses
Nov 5 - 6 - wine - 3 glasses and threw up both days - why do I do this to myself?
Nov 7 - AF8 -
Nov 1-5 AF
Nov 6 - 1 bottle of Prosecco
Nov 7 - aim AF
Reflecting back on whether that Sat night bottle was worth it? It pushed me over my calorie limit for the day. I slept badly, woke with a headache and I have indigestion!
I didn’t aim to finish the bottle in 1 night, perhaps next weekend I need to look at only having 1/2 a bottle over 2 nights rather than a full bottle in 1 night.
You guys know though … once you start it’s hard to stop!9 -

I think I was AF for a month before I woke up one day and realized that it had been weeks since I woke up feeling crappy and guilty.
I just...woke up, and everything was fine.
I hadn't had that as an ongoing thing in years. I thought it was just normal aging to feel dreadful in the morning.9 -

Saturday November 006 - AF - Went to a Christmas Farmer's Market with a friend about 1/2 hour away. Really great. Kind of felt like having drinks, but didn't have my work schedule that begins Sunday, so didn't.
Rolling total: 5AF days out of 6 days.7 -
Well we did end up going out to lunch yesterday at our favorite pub/tavern. I ordered our usual pitcher of beer ....shock...they were out of my favorite, so I had to settle for something not as tasty for me. Then I ordered the featured pub pizza. Ok pizza was not great only had two small pieces. The beer was ok, I would not purchase it again. Went home and had my 'beer' nap, BUT for the first time... I woke up and did not continue to drink the rest of the night. That was huge for me.
Nov 1 3 drinks
Nov 2-5 AF
Nov 6- 2 beers
Nov 7- AF
Rolling 5 AF day out of 7

Here is one of the groups favorite quotes about drinks.
This is for those struggling with keeping to a number you have in mind for a goal.
This is for those who are confused as to WHY they can't stop once started.
We've all been there.
It gets easier.

Regarding my own accountability, I tend to look at my intake (food & bev) on a weekly basis. First week in November flew by. DH and l had Negronis (1 each) Friday, margaritas (1 each) Sunday, and Saturday we didn’t finish a bottle of wine for the first time in as long as I can remember. We had 2 glasses each and left a glass in the bottle. One week down, 3 to go.10

We watched the first episode in the new season of Great British Baking Show. I love that program. But it makes me want to SNACK SO BAD!
We have sweets in the house, but I resisted. Extra drinks make resisting that much harder.7 -

Sunday November 07 - AF - Quite a different schedule for me at the restaurant this week, no splits until the weekend, Wednesday and Thursday off - two days in a row! Wednesday I will go out of town for my other job, then am planning to have a few drinks that night when I get home.

Well, first week of November is gone. I can't believe the year is almost over. It has been an eventful one!
I went over my calories on friday by 1000ish. But I still managed to lose 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs) this week. Which isn't that bad. I'm glad my binge didn't last the whole weekend, and my goal for this week is to not go over by too much IF i indulge. Otherwise I wish/dream of a sober week.9 -

@ahoy_m8
After the baby shower for my DIL we have tons of sweets ... you should head over to indulge. Pumpkin cookies, pear cake, iced sugar cookies ... not to mention all the appetizers! Trying to avoid the leftovers for the rest of the week and put all the gluttony behind me!

Though the Diaper Cake is not edible!
