This is just the tiniest bit scale-related. My hubby and I just returned from a Caribbean cruise. It was fantastic (it helped that the ship was at 50% capacity--no lines and no fighting over deck lounges). Anyway, the scale piece is that I actually LOST weight on the cruise! Okay, it's only 0.2 pounds, but still............ The NSV is that I have finally figured out how to manage things. I enjoyed every minute and made smart choices. I could have the Guy Fiere burger for lunch, just not the same day as I had the pancakes at the SeaDay brunch. I could have the chocolate melting cake but only if I had salad for the appetizer and not fried shrimp. And some pizza at midnight if I had done a few laps on the walking track. It's all about balance!31

I went to my favourite bra shop yesterday and got measured, I'm down two band sizes! The cup size doesn't seem to be moving though13

I handed someone my drivers license as ID. The weight listed was 215, and even that was clearly a vanity fib looking at the photo.
She stared at it, stared at me, stared at it, stared at me again. This went on for a couple of minutes.
At this point it had become awkward, so I figured I better giver her an escape plan.
“Betcha didn’t recognize me without the pink hair, huh.”
“You’re right”, she said with obvious relief, and handed it back.19 -

That's hilarious! I'm hoping this weekend my hairdresser notices my 20 pound weight loss since the last time I was in her chair.12 -
I stopped using MFP for a while because I needed a break from tracking every single thing I ate and every single bit of movement. Did I gain weight? Yes. Does it matter? Not really.
During that time off I was able to set some goals for myself that have nothing to do with numbers. Not calories in/out. Not the scale. Not the number on the tag in my pants.
I've been able to remember that I enjoy being active and it doesn't matter how many calories what I'm doing burns. It doesn't matter if I do it for five minutes or an hour. What matters is that I like doing it! The mental and emotional benefits of being active FAR outweigh how many calories it burns!
I'm back on MFP because I truly miss the community and I feel ready to gently make some changes. This is my favorite group and I always feel so encouraged when I read all the posts.24 -
my blood sugar levels are under control (albeit not quite long enough for last week's A1C to look good) and I went on a 10 mile hike yesterday, by far my longest solo hike ever.
Now to work on biking more and keeping my sugar under control so that three months from now it looks great.14 -
Background information: I'm tall, so when I find slacks that are long enough for me, I buy like 3 pairs at once. This time last year, I had gained so much weight that the clasps popped off one pair of my slacks. I have been wearing slacks and jeans with an elastic in them for stretch ever since.
I decided to try on one of the remaining pairs of slacks this morning. They are half a size too big, and I definitely need a belt to keep them from slipping off my hips. Looks like at the new year, I'm going to have to buy new business clothes. Just in time for potential interviews!20 -
Money's tight for us right now, so I had to stop my sessions with my trainer until DH can find a new job. I kept my basic gym membership because it's cheap and I need the stress relief. My NSV is that I went this weekend and worked out entirely in the free weights sections BY MYSELF, and did a darned good workout without help. Feels good to see how much I've learned from my trainer because I never would have even ENTERED that section of the gym in my past life. I still felt weird being the only middle aged woman in the midst of a gaggle of college kids, but I did it!! I'm determined to stay fit and not give into stress eating during this time. Being able to hit the gym and kick my endorphins is awesome!
ETA: Thought of another NSV related to this one. When we went through our budget to cut all the extras, I automatically cut SlingTV instead of my gym membership. No way I would have made that choice a year ago, but now I've become someone who would literally rather go to the gym than watch TV. Who is this person???!28 -
I bet those college kids were thinking, "Man, I hope I'm still as much of a gym rat in the future as she seems to be." I've known so many people who went to the gym constantly in college and immediately stopped as soon as they got a full time job.14

Wearing a size 10 jeans today! I bought them a few weeks ago as motivation. Decided to try them on again today and wound up leaving them on. Woohoo!
Guess I need to buy a size 8 soon. Lol21 -

Keep up with it, and you'll be outlifting some of them them, if you aren't already. One of my rowing buddies, age 75 now, has been lifting since age 39. She says it's pretty fun when some new-member young'uns at her gym look askance at the li'l ol' lady, then get outdone. 🤣16 -
I did 65 minutes on my Gazelle and at a fairly high level of intensity.11

I did 210 minutes (3.5 hours-15.25 miles) on my Elliptical this morning! I do this straight through. I told someone before I wouldn't go above 150 minutes but I have since then. Sunday was 200 minutes but I wanted to hit the 3.5 hours and make at least 15 miles so.....
I try to makeup for the 4 days I work and don't have time to workout.12 -
I jogged 3 miles in 30 mins without stopping. It was pretty big for me considering I could only do a half mile without stopping in June 😌22

My PT is 73, and owns the gym.
She signed up some new guy who was making a big production of flipping the 500 pound tires. Someone looked at him and said,”awww, Ms J does those all the time”.
New guy thought he was being BS’d and started talking smack.
Someone went and told on him and she marched right out there, all five feet of her, hands on hips and growled,”I heard you think I can’t flip 500 pounds”.
“No ma’am”, he stuttered.
Well she flipped it not once, but twice to prove her point, wiped her hands clean, and then went back in the office, leaving new guy with his jaw on the floor, and everyone else in the gym laughing behind their hands.
I want to be the 73 year old woman who, when someone says “she can’t”, treats challenges
like a red rag in a bull’s face.36 -
Change of seasonal clothes and everything in the closet fits! It’s been a while since that happened.24

I have consistently exercised five days a week for at least 30 minutes for 4&1/2 months!!!!!!!

looking back, ive had a lot of non scale victories lately:D!! yesterday i decided not to binge on sugar (there was a bunch of cookies) at night and i just went to bed instead, which is a huge step for me because sugar always calls my name late at night but i resisted!! also, i have been feeling like my skin is less tight, or something? i just can feel the slight difference! and my stomach doesn't hurt as much as it used to !!! so overall im pretty happy currently, just because of all that:)28

Just went into the gym here at work and did a dumbbell bench. It's been over a year since I've done any actual lifting. I did two 40 pound DBs for two reps 12 each and a set of 50 for ten reps. Felt really good and I felt as if I could have easily done more reps and more weight. But taking baby steps so I don't get hurt.19

Scale and non-scale victories.
Scale: Hit 195 on the scale today, down from 221 in April of this year, and 244 when I started 7 years ago (slow process interrupted my two hip replacements, a shoulder replacement, and three cervical disc replacements).
Non-scale: Ordered three new (to me) pairs of 33" waist pants today because none of my older 36" pants fit me anymore.

My nsv has to do with body image. I have lost a significant amount of weight over the past year but could never see it. If you asked me to point to someone that was the same size as me, I could not do it.
Today was at my transplant hospital where there is a hallway lined with mirrors. Could actually see myself relative to other people. This is only the second time that I could see a difference. My brain hasn’t quite processed the physical change yet. Self identity and body image are a work in process.
Read that you become who you think yourself to be. So positive, encouraging self talk is important.

I found a belt that fits! My waist circumference has been 28 inches for a while, since I finished my diet around 3 years ago. Small adult male belts, even those that brand themselves as 28 inches at the tightest, have all proved to be too loose. I found one marketed for teens which is small enough, and smart enough to wear with a suit.

I didn't want to get up early this morning and decided I would go back to sleep and just do my walk at lunchtime. I rolled back over but couldn't go back to sleep. I got up and went for my walk anyway even though I got a late start. It was a little shorter than usual (although I work from home I have a start time) and a little slower pace due to new shoes throwing me off my pace a bit. The shoes are comfortable but seem stiff compared to my old broken in shoes. I will probably take a shorter walk at lunch also. I never would have done any of this a few weeks ago.

I decided to record my measurements after 59 dedicated days. I've lost a few pounds but I felt like the scale should have moved more so I pulled out the measuring tape. To my surprise... 2 inches off my waist and hips showed me where my hard work has paid off!!! So excited to see that kind of progress!

I went back and logged my meal/snack from last evening when I got up this morning. Doesn't seem like a lot, but usually I just skip it and ignore the fact that I had a rough night... Trying to change that habit.

Puppy got spayed yesterday. I live on the fourth floor of a building with no elevator. Vet told me puppy was NOT to walk up the stairs by herself. Carried 18 pounds of furry deadweight up three flights of stairs and wasn't even winded. Furthermore, I had to carry her in a fashion that put more strain on my arms so it wouldn't put strain on her stitches.

My new boot-cut jeans fit, a bit loose. I don’t want them loose, but it’s better than the muffin top I won during the pandemic!🙌🏽😆🧁
