Haven't run since Monday. Been trying to give my legs some reset. Was basking in the feeling of no pain when walking since Thursday. Was on my walk this afternoon and it was such a gorgeous day that I couldn't help but start my watch and try to just jog a bit to test the legs. Pain was just slightly less than Monday (after staying off running for 4 days). Not what I had hoped for (or expected). Guess I will keep to walking and very little running for the foreseeable future.
I guess I won't be making my goal this month, for the first time this year. But really want to go into 2022 healthy, so just may have take most of the rest of the year off.

Nice run @marisap2010 . Congrats on making your goal of under 30 min!
@SummerSkier I had wondered if you ran twice today. Great running!
Nice run for you too @johnisrunning .
@kgirlhart Glad you were able to get on the web and post. Hope they get the app working soon. Great running. Cooler weather does make a difference.
@Scott6255 Sorry you are having issues...it's PF, right? As hard as it is, taking the time off of running is probably the best and hopefully 2022 will be a healthy one for you.2 -
My back is doing better, but I came down with a case of laryngitis Thursday afternoon. I don't feel horrible, but lack the energy I usually have. Today, I did quite a bit of house cleaning, so didn't get a run in. I did walk a mile on the treadmill while dinner was cooking.7
-
@quilteryoyo no, no PF. It's medial shin pain, both legs.
Hope your laryngitis gets better so you can sing in church tomorrow 😁4 -

Scott have you tried zero drop shoes? When my shins act up I have to go flats to help.3 -

I had to go into work today to work on a presentation I have to give at a conference next week. I met a friend outside my work at 9 and we ran a 5k loop and then I changed and shut myself in my office to get things done I made a lot of progress, so hopefully it's coming together but it's very stressful throwing this together last minute.
Testing out spoilers because it looks like things are back to more normal layout. Spoiler of the spoiler - I'm doing a race tomorrow:I decided last minute (yesterday) to sign up for a half marathon tomorrow. I was actually supposed to go to Boston today for a Spartan race but there was no way I could go with my work deadlines. So then I started thinking because I'm home this weekend after all, I should do the race and get my HM done for the month. I may regret that decision about 12 hours from now.9 -
Sunday long run today - about 17km. Warm rain for the first hour, which was lovely. Disappointed when it stopped. A bit slow and my hip is a bit achy - something’s off. Rest and yoga tomorrow.
I need to pull finger and start preparing to move - the house is nearly finished and there’s only 17 days to go. Fortunately, the kids go back to school on Wednesday so I’ll have a lot more time.7 -
Well it was a weight loss this week though I didn't record the last increase so my bad. At least I am moving in the right direction. Even had a proper night out, at a bar, with people and everything! Stayed off the alcohol though so not a proper, proper night out and I think I can get used to sober me not having to apologise for what drunk me said!
Time to start the exercise again, slowly, slowly me thinks.11 -
@Scott6255 Sorry I got that wrong. If I don't write it down, I forget. I hope you can figure out what to do to make it go away and get back to running. I'm curious. Is that different from shin splints?
@katharmonic I'm sure your presentation will be great. Sometimes I do my best work at the last minute. Good luck with your spontaneous HM today. I long for the day that I can just wake up and say, "I think I'll run a HM tomorrow."
@ContraryMaryMary Sounds like a nice run. Good luck with the move.
@TheMrWobbly Yeah for the weight loss and having a "proper" night out with friends. The sober you sounds like a much nicer version....the version we see on here. Good luck with starting back to exercise. You can do it.2 -

re: Forum changes.
1. I've been through a handful of similar changes. Nobody likes everything, you get some cool new features and everyone forgets about the old format after about a month.
2. Android has 73% of the worldwide market share. How can you not test on that platform before you go to production?
Saturday: I did 6 miles through the Crabtree woods. I think those trails are becoming my favorite. Unfortunately, the park doesn't open until 7:30 or 8:00 (can't remember which), so it's not a viable option for weekday running.
Sunday: I put 13 miles on my schedule for today, but decided I should go ahead and do 13.1 cause...well, duh. Nice out and back on the ATT which is relatively flat and relatively straight. It was in the low 30s at the outset. Nice chilly run. I really enjoy cold weather running. The trail was pretty empty. The cyclist seem to stay away when it's cold, so it is just a few runners and walkers.
13.1 miles @ 9:25 pace. My longest run since December of 2016 when I did 13 miles at 8:25 pace (still have some work to do!).
42.3 miles for the week
83 miles out of 165 for the month11 -
I did a 2 mile time trial yesterday. The first mile I couldn't settle into a pace and it was 10:39 by the second mile I was at 10:02. Coach sent me all my paces, which are about where I have been in the past.
November: 40 / 80ish I would guess?
2021: 969 / 10008 -
14 Nov total 91.65 out of 150 goal. 192.71 left for run the year so need to avg 4.1 the rest of the year to complete on time. I am slightly ahead planning to coast to the end in Dec hopefully with about 3 per day required to meet it. I was pleasantly surprised today that my legs were not falling to pieces after doing 9 total miles running yesterday. They did feel a little sore in the middle of the night but were ok for my run today which I took very easy. Hard to believe Nov is almost halfway thru already! This is maybe the first time I have made a conscious effort to keep up with this thread. I dont comment as much as I maybe should but I do enjoy reading about everyone's adventures and runs!

@katharmonic, Hope your half marathon went well today!
Today's training run was 60 minutes at 11:13-12:13 pace. It is such a pretty day with no clouds in the sky, so I decided to go run at the park by the river. There were a ton of people out. It was in the mid 40s when I started. With warmup and cool down, I ran 5.67 miles.

Race report: One NY Half Marathon
I should apparently sign up last minute more often. Except for how expensive it was, it worked out well. It was a well done race, with lots of easy parking right by the start. The weather was overcast and a little chilly at the start, at about 39 degrees. I wore leggings and a long sleeved shirt over a short sleeved one, thinking I'd probably take of the long sleeves at some point, but I never did.
I ran with a good friend who had planned all along to do this race. When I texted her that I was doing it, I asked if she was planning to race to get a good time or she wanted some company and run together, she immediately said she would LOVE some company. She and I ran the Mountain Goat 10 mile race together 3 weeks ago and we've run many other races together so we know we are about the same pace, but she also pushes me a little more than I probably would run it myself (if not going for a PR or something). We had a lot to catch up on as the last 3 weeks have been pretty eventful so we chatted and filled each other in the whole time.
It was a good course, looping around Onondaga Lake which has only recently been possible to do because of the completion of the paved trail system on one side. It's still not 100% trail around and we had to go on some road on one end of the lake, but this is the first time I've actually looped the whole thing (even though I've run 3/4 of it back and forth more times than I can count). On the east side of the lake the wind across the lake was so cold, which it always is, that I had to put my gloves back on and was regretting not having something a little warmer. But then when we turned around the top of the lake and back down the west side trail out of the wind it was a lot better.
Our pace was surprisingly good for chatting constantly, and I realized in the last two miles that this was probably going to be my best half of the 2021 half marathon a month challenge. Not saying a whole lot because many of those were very slow, especially when I hurt my back in March, and most were not races but just running the distance. We kicked it a little at the end and my time was 2:19:34, so I was very excited to get in under 2:20. This is not close to a PR for me, but it is the best I've done in two years so I am very happy with that.

7.1 mile trail run, average pace of 9:32 min per mile with 686 feet of elevation. Ran 5 of those miles running at 8 minute miles, as I'm trying to incorporate some speedwork into training.
Also, tested out my new trail shoes: Saucony Peregrine 11 which are nice, sturdy and comfortable.
November cumulative:
48.9 miles & 3,493 feet of elevation
Sorry to hear your legs are not back to normal @Scott6255. I've had a couple of months due to me falling ill/stress where I've not made my monthly goal of 100 miles and I lost my 2.5 year streak of doing 10,000 steps a day. I was of course disappointed and gutted, but it made me realise that sometimes I just need to slow down.
A forced rest due to injury is very difficult for us runners, but being forced to rest means I now have no knee problems at all.
Hope you get back to normal soon and you will be fully recovered in time for the New Year.8 -
Well my first night out in 18 months didn't work out and I got pinged to go and get a PCR test which is done and now to await the result! Oh well, I didn't want to go out really anyway6
-
@CarsonSurfs Nice running and congrats on your longest run in 5 years!
Nice @RunsOnEspresso !
@SummerSkier Glad your legs felt okay today after 9 miles yesterday.
@katharmonic Congrats on what sounds like a fun race and your best time in 2 years!
Nice run @sweetdaisy13 !
Oh no @TheMrWobbly ! I hope the test comes back negative.
I don't know if I'm being lazy or smart, but I didn't run again today. I did walk a mile on the treadmill at 3.9 mph pace. My HR remained low, so only burned 48 calories. Hardly seems worth the effort.4 -
November Goal: 100 Miles
11/2: 4.03 miles
11/4: 4.04 miles
11/6: 13.18 miles
11/9: 5.10 miles
11/10: 5.10 miles
11/11: 5.10 miles
11/12: 3.14 miles
11/14: 8.18 miles
47.87/100 miles completed for November
I am not really liking the new forums yet. I still need to go back and get caught up on the reading I've missed the last couple of days.
I did have a really nice run this morning. The weather was perfect. I ran 8 miles. I saw a deer standing on the side of the road. He just stood there for the longest time watching me approach and then he ran across the road and over a fence. I ran by to see Sunny the Donkey and I had a dog join me. This was a really pretty female blue pit bull. Luckily she only ran with me for a couple of blocks. I was really glad because I was fixing to cross the highway and I didn't want her to follow me. All in all it was a really good run.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children - 10K PR 55:46:28.
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon - PR 2:07:11 and 1st in AG8 -
Sorry @Scott6255 about your shin pain. That really sucks 😞
@katharmonic great job on the race, sounds lovely.
I rode my bike to the school and back, and actually counted it as exercise. Not quite ready for running, but getting there 🙂7
