Kind of a wacky week on the scale for me with lots of fluctuations just to end up exactly where I started. I joined a gym this past week and went 3 times so I'm feeling good despite the scale not co-operating.
Refocusing on drinking lots of water this week as I definitely let that slide recently. Hope everyone has a great week.3 -
I've made my December goal already (down 5 pounds, yay!), but you know how that first week is -- there's water-weight loss, etc. That rapid rate of progress does slow down, at least for most of us.
Soon, I'll be gloriously happy for a 1-pound per week loss.
Only @swimmom_1 is seeing large losses week after week -- your ability to maintain your keto-low approach is so inspiring, and thank you for outlining your program! It's very helpful, and I'll be interested in learning how close to it I can approach and sustainably manage.

Goals:
- Finish putting up our Christmas tree. ✔
- Keeping working on decluttering the house
- Earn extra calories everyday but don't eat them back per my Fitbit Versa 2 ✔
- Don't over-do on my good day's
- Stay on track and under calorie budget every day! ✔
- Post every day in my weight loss challenge group. ✔
- Enjoy my NS victories. ✔
- I really need to clean out my closet. I'm no longer an XXL and I'm never going to be again.
- Eat at least 1000 calories a day.
I've been walking more steps every day, but 4000 is just too much for me. I have the stamina to walk more steps, but my RA does not like it and now I'm in terrible pain and I don't know how long that will last. I did ok at 3000 and did not suffer any consequences. I'm going back to that.
I did have some self-insight, I figured out how I gained a lot of weight, and it was eye opening for me. Whenever I start a new medication, I gain 10 pounds. I always thought it was the medication's fault but now I realize it was all me. I get really scared and worried and I eat more. So, this last time when I got hungry, I drank iced tea, enough to float me down a river. After a week the hunger subsided, and I went back to my routine. Now that I am aware that won't happen anymore. I even told my shrink about it at our monthly talks. I was convinced it was the medication's fault, but now I will have to tell him it was all me. The medications I take can cause cancers and all sorts of nasty things. It's a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't type of situation.
"She believed she could, so she did!" This will be my mantra from now on. I believe I can.3 -

I am also proud of you for sticking to it!
Seven days isn't a plateau, though - that's just bodies being how they do. Especially bodies with hormone cycles be how they do sometimes, and especially if you're weighing *daily,* you're absolutely losing and finding a half-pound of water, not fat. (One stupid measly little pint of water weighs a whole pound. Just two little cups! Weigh a pound!) It's frustrating for sure, but you haven't plateaued so much as you're just standing on a big rock on your way down the weight-loss mountain.
Also, if it's been a while (~15lb or so) since you recalculated your calorie budget, maybe it's time to revisit that? Your calorie needs go down about 5 cal/day for every pound you lose, so if you lose 20lb, whatever your maintenance calories was when you started is now reduced by ~100 cal/day - that's ~20% of your deficit, if you're aiming for 1lb per week loss, and nearly half your deficit if you're aiming for half a pound a week.
Lemme rephrase it- I'm hoping it's not the start of one. I was losing 2-3+ lbs consistently and then this is the first week where it's 0. Kind of a bummer, that's all. I feel better after venting LOL
And yes, I've been on top of updating the calorie calculator. Kids' activities (lots of sitting for basketball, in the car, etc) have seriously cramped my ability to be as physically active recently so I'm seeing a further decline in available calories. Boo.1 -
@tahitig
Part of my success is the routine meals, being bullheaded (or determined, I am a Taurus!) and I'm tired and ashamed that I gained all the weight I lost years ago back! I want it off and go clothes shopping in my closet! I do get nice comments from co-workers and Nephrologists, that work with us and MFP members which boosts the ego too. I have much more energy too! Other than 15 lbs I lost between 9/14/20-5/3/21, Ive lost the other 68.8 lbs since 5/3, so 6 months. I'm thrilled. Seeing the scale numbers going down is a great motivator for me to stay on track!
I'm sure there is many who disagree with my WOE and exercising but it's working for me and I'm praying I've learned more this time and can maintain it better than the last time! And lab work is all good except the one, which is more genetic heredity.2 -

Weight has magically stayed the same in the week. Teriyaki sauce last night so it helped to bounce up a bit. I like that my highs aren't has high; mostly seeing 222 as a high instead of 224. My lows right now are getting into 216s. I'm just happy with that.
Happy Scale doesn't like me as I'm right at the milestone for the next so it keeps having to toggle back to the first one. When it gives the new one the prediction dates can be a bit funny; it's given up hope on me a bit. If I'm just losing the 10lbs a year instead of the statically gaining I'm fine with that. I'm not doing this for a goal or anything. At first I was doing so in case DH and I tried for a child but with my cycles just not working well I don't think that's a concern anymore so just enjoying the new lows as they come anyway.
With not getting back to the gym for much strength training I might have to pull out mom's Body Gym I got her to do at home.
Along with more water. I'm always slacking on my water right now. I'll have to start the other tricks I've been telling my friend as well - before meals, wake up, bed, etc. Already got a fancy bottle that tells me and just got new batteries so it'll keep doing so.
Leaving for Disney Saturday. Should be good. Most days are low key with 2 park days. Not limiting myself to anything so will expect the sodium gain. Last year's wasn't bad so expecting the same now. Enjoying all the food and will deal with the consequences when I get back.3 -

Non-scale goals:
1. Consistently cook on Thursdays and Sundays so I can bring leftovers to work.
2. Walk the pup 30 minutes every day, weather permitting.
3. Transition to the next step down for inclined pushups
4. Get to 40 sit ups in a row
5. While visiting parents, walk with Dad every morning.
TOTM shot my weight up by 2 pounds, and I'm back to where I was before. Although I'm going to keep the programmed calorie counter set at 2000, I'm going to aim for around 1800 until I get to the parents' house for Christmas and can no longer track as well.
Also not doing great on the "walking 30 minutes a day" thing. Pup has a scratch on her eye, so no trekking through the woods until that's better. Did go on a 20 minute walk today, so I'd say that's close enough.4 -

@justanotherloser007 thank you. you're right. The rails are there, and I know where they are. Been having a really hard time with anything at all lately, but I already have healthy food on hand, and I love soup, so I can fill an 8-quart crockpot with good things and not have to worry about cooking while all else goes to...wherever the bleep it's going.
@Ladybug8882021 thank you too.
i've barely been logging, not making it to the gym or my step goal, haven't been around here at all--but all the food in the house is fairly healthy, so all I can do is eat too much of it. Fighting that by eating entire packages of frozen vegetables along with whatever else I'm eating.
I'm hanging in, till I can stumble my way back to the rails.4 -
Ugh. If you're meal-prepping, remember: food safety matters even in your own home kitchen, ladies! Don't leave food in the bacterial-growth Danger Zone (40F-140F) for more than 4 hours!
I called out of work today after spending half the night up in the bathroom. Hubs is unaffected so I'm thinking this is just food poisoning, not like norovirus or COVID (which apparently can have GI symptoms, but this would be the only "symptom" I have, no respiratory/fever/etc). Hubs suspects the culprit is in my cabbage rolls - I did eat those on Monday and was fine, but maybe the temp knob on the work fridge got bumped or the door got stuck open, it happens. I did cut it a little close in terms of how long I left them out to cool before packing them up for lunches, close to that 4-hour mark. Lesson learned, now I gotta toss six servings of cabbage rolls and figure something else out for lunch the rest of the week. It'll probably be Panera tbh, that's close to work and reasonably healthy. If I end up calling out tomorrow after getting a dental procedure done, then I just have to worry about Friday, but now I'm starting to worry that my boss thinks I might be interviewing or something. No, I'm genuinely feeling unwell and in need of dental work, it's just bad timing all the way around.
Tiny silver lining, I hopped on the scale this morning just for funsies, and I did see that 196 I'm aiming for. This is NOT how I wanted to achieve that number, LMAO, and I'm sure if I get back on there now I'll see a 2 on there again, since what I lost was five pounds of water and, well, food in transit, to put it mildly.5 -

Truthfully I haven't posted in one of these threads since April. I'm very bad at weekly online check-ins and actually joined WW back in September after recognizing and coming to terms with my need for the sort of accountability it provides. I will admit that I am not a great logger (WW or MFP) but the in person accountability is something that I have found incredibly helpful. Not to mention the scheduled "out of the house/away from the kids" time it provides.
By the end of the year, I'm hoping to attend at least two more WW meetings - with holidays and dinners it's very easy to put these aside or "take a break" this month. My goal is to maintain my more healthy eating habits while still letting myself indulge in an enjoyable way.
Happy December! ❄️6 -

Don’t worry, I am still in a nice cushy food deficit. Funny story, I literally shrunk one size since last week! And I weigh more? Whatever. According to my scale I have lost fat, which I guess tracks because I have added 1.5 miles to my morning walk. So I guess this will be like when I started walking to begin with. That month I lost like 2 lbs the whole month, while still staying true to my fitness plan. But I started shrinking a TON, the next month I did lose weight. My size large pants are getting loose. But I am still quite heavy, I am nowhere near maintenance weight!! Since I have never lost weight before this is all new to me. My body seems full on chaotic, and the reason I am adding so much to my walk is I read somewhere that a person who walks 15,000 steps a day will keep the weight off. That is my goal more than losing it fast - keeping it off. So have a great Friday, and a blessed weekend.
Also, please pray for my Mother-in-law Sondra, she is in the hospital right now. I have to go take care of my Father-in-law who has severe dementia, while she is there. They are thinking she is having small heart attacks, but right now we don’t know. Thank you all!!
🎄 Walk 5 miles every single day (up from 3 miles last month!!) I can actually do the 4+ miles in less time than I was able to do the 3 miles which is blowing my mind.
🎄 Be patient! Remember that increments are where it is at.
🎄 Remember: Total loss of 97.8 lbs down!!
@goal06082021 Are you feeling any better? Oh my goodness, food poisoning is terrible!! ((hugs))5 -

Venting here because y'all Get It: I love my in-laws, I really do, but I cannot with the multiple-times-per-week dinner invitations. I'm probably reading too much into it (I hope I am and wish I could not), but after a year plus of Pointedly Not Talking About weight loss in general/my body in particular, I've started bringing it up obliquely in conversation (e.g., MIL asks what I want for Christmas, I tell her gift cards because I need new clothes but idk what sizes), and suddenly this week there's 3 separate invitations to dinner out with them, at restaurants that pretty much exclusively serve butter and some food to go with it. I accepted the first time because truth be told I didn't really want to cook and that was the plan that night (and I still think the scallops I got had more to do with my food poisoning than the cabbage rolls, but I concede the cabbage rolls are more likely just based on timing - I'm doing much better now, thank you @justanotherloser007). Last night they offer to take Hubs and I out to the same restaurant we ended up at for dinner on Wednesday because reasons, I turned that down gracefully. Tonight SIL is in town to come with me to a show and they're working on dinner plans for that as well. Again, probably it has nothing to do with me ("invite out to dinner" is like their default move upon being confronted with any of their children, it has been the entire time I've known this family) and they aren't trying to ~sabotage~ me or anything so dramatic, but this whole week has basically gone off the rails dietwise* and my brain is an a-hole and sometimes tells me crap like that and I wish it wouldn't.
(*To my credit, I've stayed more or less on-budget - having an iffy stomach for a couple of days will do that I suppose - but it's absolutely not the plan I pre-logged on Sunday night, and my activity has been lower than typical this week as well. One downside of using a TDEE method and not logging exercise separately, I suppose. I did come in about 500 under on Wednesday, and I definitely did not glean all available energy from Tuesday night's dinner. I haven't done anything wrong and I'm still on track, but I'm Very Bad at handling sudden changes of plan and that is what's mostly causing all these bad brain feelings. Especially sudden changes that aren't my choice to plans that were my choice. Even really minor stuff like going into the kitchen to cook something and being derailed by a sink full of dishes gives me a negative moodlet, in The Sims terms, for a disproportionately long time in comparison to the magnitude of the actual problem.)4 -

Weight goal for December - 30 lbs down and keep that loss into the New Year!
I usually weigh in daily when at home, but will record weekly, trying for Fridays (if I slept at home Thursday night to weigh in next morning - been staying over at my daughter's a lot lately and she has no scale - Santa might bring her one 😁)
*I ordered a WW portable bathroom scale to bring to her house, and possibly for vacations too!
Other goals:
[ ] Go for minimum 15 minute walk each day, indoors or out - 7 of 9 - plan to do today!
[ ] Get my water in, minimum 6 cups - ✔
[ ] Focus on adequate protein in my diet, especially seafood - added keeping carbs below 150 grams
[ ] Get Christmas stuff done!!! (finish my Spotify playlist ✔, decorating outside ✔, decorating inside, cleaning, shopping, planning outings - I love Christmas but it's a lot) Xmas pantomime booked for grandkids!
Sounds like many of us have our struggles at this time, ((HUGS)) to all! Hang in there, don't get in your own heads too much - do your best in that moment or circumstance and move on, this too shall pass and we want to get maximum enjoyment from the season 😉 🎄 ❤
@justanotherloser007 - will pray for Sondra and your family, and your increased duties. That's a lot. Glad to hear of your walking success!
@sarah12277 - are you going to Disneyworld? I was there in 2016, lucky you to be able to go frequently! I am hoping to go the Disneyland in Spring with son & family, Walking the parks will certainly give you a great calorie burn - have a wonderful time - pretty much guaranteed at the happiest place on earth! 😍3 -

Not feeling particularly great today. Got my booster yesterday so my arm is pretty sore. Plus my cycle started a few days early (which explains the drop because I seem to usually have a bigger drop right at the start). I am glad it should be done and dusted before I travel now, but man, my cycles are getting more and more irregular.
Happily I was able to find some boots & raincoat that fit well last weekend (hooray!). Unfortunately I have no idea how well they will hold up to the PNW rain, haha. We have have been dry with mild temps so no way to test drive before next weekend. I am so excited 😊

@Ladybug8882021 You are making great steady progress, way to go!
@sargemarcori Grats!! And Sarge is BACK in the game everybody!!
@danikat15 You are making nice steady progress! Keep plugging away at the habits, be like @goal06082021 and don't give up on yourself! Future you will be so grateful you did. And a nice 10/10 for lunch!! Building on that awesome success. Also with the steps, one site said to add 20% per week. So maybe start where you are and figure out how much 20% more is? That might help.
@mewickla Nice to meet you! I started somewhere in July maybe? Maybe tell us a little about yourself, and we can build on some relationships.
@kenziestabes Sounds like a solid plan. Sorry about the pup, I know how motivating the dog walk is for us humans. Every time I see one of my daily trail walkers without their dog, they always tell me how weird it feels. But usually within a week, their pups are back and ready for action. Hopefully, your pup feels better soon.
@sarah12277 I hope you have so much fun at Disney! Please tell me about your water bottle with reminders? This is pertinent to my in-laws.
@FushiaKat That is an amazing insight re the new meds and anxiety gain. Wow, that is a pretty big deal! Also, do you have all over joint pain or just the knees?
@swimmom_1 Doing amazing!! Keep on keeping on. Also, You are doing amazing with your elliptical!!!
@RobynS2814 Nice to meet you! Maybe the weight oompa loompas are deciding you will maintain this week. If you keep to your plan, they will eventually be done with their song and dance.
Thank you all for the prayers, mother-in-law is out of the hospital and while they have no idea what happened, they did diagnose her with dehydration... again. I am trying to figure out how to get her and Pa to drink more, and eat less junk food. Taking suggestions (i.e. I had never heard of a bottle with alarms from sarah). They are 75 and Pa has moderate to severe dementia Ma has moderate dementia.
I think I know some. Unless all of a sudden I am just hyper aware of nutritional stuff (true) this is my thought: They aren’t drinking enough fluids true, but the food in their home… any junk eating college aged kid would be the happiest person alive! And I kid you not, I wonder how they are still alive?! Also, they are BOTH diabetic and Pa has heart disease and his dementia is due to the surgeries with his heart.
When I took care of Pa while Ma was in the hospital. Pa ate 4 nutter butter cookies for breakfast (???) half a kolache for lunch (???) and half of the meatloaf that his youngest son sent him. He ignored the two vegetables that were also on the tray, not even taking one single bite of either of them. He also ignored the water I placed next to him all day. He only drank 6 oz of coffee in the am, 12 oz of dr pepper at dinner. And 6 oz of water with his am meds and 6 oz of water with his pm meds. How are these two even alive? Yeah, he has itchy skin - that happens when you don’t drink enough water. Dehydration also worsens cognitive function. It is a full on mess. I would feel horrible too if that was my diet and water intake!!!!

@justanotherloser007 I have all over joint pain equally on both sides of my body, with some trouble areas like, all of the smaller joints in my toes and fingers. I've had both big toe joints replaced (which might need replacing again after they wear out, but he said since I'm not that active they might last 25 years). I've lost grip strength, it's tough to open anything. I've had shots in my shoulders, knees, and hips. My knees used to be really bad until I got a raised toilet seat. They improved after that. My right knee is killing me today, but I just had a shot less than 3 weeks ago. I'm a bit worried about that knee but I don't want to have more surgery.
When I got sick, I had been ill the night before, with a mild case of food poisoning. I woke up feeling achy all over and my joints hurt. Then my hips and knees hurt really bad, I saw my Primary Care, and he gave me nothing but ran lots of blood work. Then at my next visit I said that my hips and knees are not getting any better but are getting much worse. He referred me to a rheumatologist, which took 3 months before they got me in. By that time, I could barely dress myself. They ran every test under the sun, even syphilis. Over $3500 dollars in tests alone and I didn't have any health insurance. I also had physical where he tested all of my joint movements. After all that I was told I have Sero-negative Rheumatoid Arthritis, there is no cure, but it can be managed. In the beginning I was in so much pain, terrible, terrible pain. I was sent for physical therapy where I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and told not to come back. It went downhill from there; I was diagnosed with more Co-morbidities. I lost myself, who I used to be vs who I am now are very different people. I lost all my friends because I don't look sick, so therefore I must be faking it to get attention. I was told to "heal myself", I was told if you "Just change your diet", I was told, "oh I have that too!" I was told a million things all of them wrong. I was given Methotrexate, and when that didn't work, I was given infusions. They worked short term and then needed to be changed again. Or the side effects were so bad we had to stop. I was running out of options when we finally found one that worked. It lasted until I got the flu and had to stop for 2 weeks, then it didn't work anymore. It went on and on. (Much like I am now.) I learned how to give myself shots, I don't know how diabetics do it every day. The freedom I have now just taking a once-a-day pill is priceless.
I would urge anybody who has constant joint pain to seek treatment immediately. Osteoarthritis is when your joints wear out and the treatment options are very different. RA is when a person's immune system mistakes the soft place between the joints as foreign invaders and eats away at them eventually causing the bones to rub against each other. It causes inflammation which also pushes the joints apart and it attacks all the connective tissues in the body. People with RA die from heart disease and our life spans are shortened by at least 10 years. The constant inflammation takes a toll on our hearts.
Before I got RA, I had never heard of it before. Today I am well educated.
I am losing the weight to ease the strain on my joints and make them last longer. It's really important to me. I'm sorry this is so long winded.

Dec 3 - 270.4
Dec 10 - 269.8 (recalc'd calories)
I was okay with this loss, but secretly a little bummed as was expecting to get to 30 lbs loss - so I was super stoked to be able to weigh in again today! Oompa Loompas be gone!
Dec 11 - 267.6 (Down 31.2!!)
Dec 17
Dec 24
Dec 31
Weight goal for December - 30 lbs down ✔and keep that loss into the New Year (TBD)!
[ ] Go for minimum 15 minute walk each day, indoors or out - 8 of 10
[ ] Get my water in, minimum 6 cups - ✔
[ ] Focus on adequate protein in my diet, especially seafood - added keeping carbs below 150 grams when I recalc'd my calories
[ ] Get Christmas stuff done!!! (finish my Spotify playlist ✔, decorating outside ✔, decorating inside ✔(except tree next weekend), cleaning, shopping, planning outings - I love Christmas but it's a lot) Xmas pantomime booked for grandkids!
@justanotherloser007 - great that MILaw is out of hospital, but she has dementia too? Oh dear, that's really bad for their ability to maintain independence. Nutter Butters hold a special place in my heart, not readily available in Canada.

@goal06082021 so close to Onederland! You can do it!
@justanotherloser007 sorry to hear about your in-laws. My Mom lived with me and had colon cancer before she died. I can’t imagine dealing with dementia though.
@FushiaKat your health journey sounds very draining. I had an ex-boyfriend who had RA, but I didn’t really know much about it. I hope you continue to feel better!1 -

I was crazy busy this week and didn’t get a chance to post earlier. I saw a gain but it was due to TOM and has been coming back down. Last weekend was date night and the wife and I kept up our tradition of taking a date night picture. It is so fun to see our progress month over month! I also kind of loved that the dog joined us in this one!

My Sunday wrap up:
❄Gym - swim 4x a week ✅
❄Log all food - daily✅
❄Pescatarian - daily✅
❄Take vitamins - daily❗-missed 1 day
❄Stretch - daily❗-I have been stretching in the pool, but it doesn't really count because it's not everyday and I want to do it in the mornings.
Overall, a good week. I so proud of myself for making it to the gym to swim 4 times, which hasn't happened in over two years.
I'll be officially weighing myself on the 15th and 31st, but I took a sneak peek and I was down exactly 4lbs. While I don't have an official weight loss goal for the month, 8lbs would be awesome.
So here's to keep on keepin' on! 💜3 -
I'm back. Mary from Pennsylvania

My weigh in day is Sunday.

My December goal is 5 lbs
12/1/21-176.2 lbs
12/5/21-171.8 lbs As of yesterday I AM NO LONGER OBESE! I AM OVERWEIGHT! Also am wearing size 10 jeans but found a brand new pair of 8's with Tags on and I just had to try them. I zipped them right up, no trouble. My flabby belly though hangs out bad over the waistband, so need to do abdominal crunches.

@Ladybug8882021 Congratulations on your loss!2

@RavenStCloud - I think it is marvelous that you made it to the gym 4 times!
I paid my gym membership (only $15/month) for 2 years without going...with the hope I would go at some point, Covid contributed for sure, but still! I finally cancelled mine 🤪
Thanks @swimmom_1 - your pant size is getting really small 👖3 -
SW (7/23): 300

GW for December: 263 - 265
Not much to report. Had my annual physical last week and am now being referred to a Rheumatologist. Not feeling great about that, but I was unsurprised. @FushiaKat , your stories about getting diagnosed and medication and stuff have stressed me out a bit.
Trying to be proactive and tracking my symptoms (the fatigue today is intense) in advance of my first appointment. If I've learned anything from 20+ years dealing with migraines, it's that data really helps the doc AND helps me feel somewhat in control.
Meh.4 -
Unintended side-effect of losing 50 lbs: my g%@^#! period is back, thought I banished that SOB to the shadow realm. Ugh. I know I need to get in to see my gyno anyway (I skipped a lot of doctor's appointments last year because COVID), guess this is one more reason to talk to her. Last time I was in was end of 2019, getting my Nexplanon replaced, and I ended up also getting two pap smears for my trouble, since the lab somehow screwed up the first one. I just wish their patient portal actually worked, I hate making phone calls under the best of circumstances. And making a ladydoc appointment is pretty effing far down the list of circumstances.
Anyway, how's everyone else's Monday going?5
