Ok god, ok I'm not a dog lover. I've always been scared of them and just plain don't like the jumping and biting and coming near me.

I live in a no dogs/no exceptions apt building but someone didn't get the literal memo that NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED NO MATTER WHAT.

That's not what this is about.

This is about my neighbor in my work complex decided to start bringing her dog (not sure if it's our client or the girl who works for her) and it won't shut up. And I can't exactly complain to the property manager because he brings HIS dog pretty much every time he's here now.

Definitely annoyed me when he walked in with his big dog this one time...

And, in a very weird, tmi kinda irk, I have dental problems. I'm getting implants but I haven't been healing well on the upper half so I'd been wearing these dentures that didn't fit because of a gag reflex. The glue came off easily so I went without it a lot.

Anyway, I used to do a lot of sucking on crackers or m&ms or whatever until they melted in my mouth and I could swallow them because of the lack of being able to chew. My dentist fixed the upper denture so it fits better and now it's REALLY hard to come off and I'm able to kinda chew again and eating takes me like a quarter of the time because I'm not letting things melt in my mouth so...I'm probably eating more. :)

When people soak themselves in perfume or cologne before going somewhere where you will be in close contact with other people...theaters, restaurants, etc.

When these events were restricted for so long, I almost forgot how bad this can be.

In restaurants, I have asked to change tables due to intense scents from nearby diners. It has ruined some theatre experiences for me...eyes watering, throat burning.

Wearing a mask actually helps a bit, so there's an added benefit to COVID protocols. Doesn't help in restaurants though, where you'd like to taste your food instead of the Axe body spray next door.

I automatically get suspicious when someone wears that much cologne or perfume. Like, what are they trying to hide under that odoriferous cloud?

I have a general contractor lined up to do some work on the staircase in my home. He and his crew got "hit pretty hard" by COVID and "lost about 2 weeks". Now the work isn't likely to get done before Christmas.

    I'm irked. Should I be?
Is this just life in the era of COVID, or... ?

That's frustrating. Maybe a silver lining will turn out to be that now that they've recovered, they won't need to pause after starting and leave your place in disarray because people are out sick.

I'm jealous, I can't even get a contractor to show up to give me a quote, let alone commit to do the work.

Last spring I decided this was the year to get my concrete driveway replaced. It's not a cheap job, particularly as the existing concrete has to be broken up and removed Called the company that did a beautiful job on a driveway in the block next to mine. He said he'd come over and do a quote, never showed up. Called my second choice contractor, same result. Got the name of another reputable company from a coworker, SAME RESULT.

Does nobody want to work any more???

I bet it took us 10 calls to 7 different contractors before anyone would come look at the job. But I agree with your point... seems no one wants more work.

I'm right there with you. I had a major leak in my (only) bathroom 6 weeks ago and I'm still living with a plywood floor and no sink (I admit I put the work on hold for a couple of weeks). I decided to do the remodel I've been wanting since it's torn up anyway but I need the quote for the repairs for the insurance company plus the quote for the remodel and the guy was here two weeks ago. Still no estimate. He promises next week so we shall see.

If it ever gets done, it will be a really nice bathroom!

Oh damn. I don't have that many choices available, at least not good contractors. Driveways don't seem to be a common one, the big companies do forming for construction and the little companies stick to decorative landscaping type stuff.

On the other hand, I did find a fellow to grind out a huge tree stump, first phone call! And the job got done almost on schedule. I was expecting him to drop off his bill when he finished since he was right there in my front yard but two weeks later and still no bill?

    Modern business practices bewilder me.

Today.....it's the post office. :( Trying to figure out where a package is that I mailed is being a real pita. And the people at my post office weren't real helpful, said it's impossible without the tracking number. It didn't help that I lost it. :( For almost 40 years I saved every single flipping receipt I ever got due to my job. And now, I can't find an important piece of info that I truly needed??

But thankfully my dd got online and found out the package is trapped in a recovery center not far from where she lives and she's got a picture of the tracking number. Hmmm, maybe the postal clerks need some training. :(

Now we shall see if the package ever makes it to its destination. :(

The USPS is and has been a joke for years. I just spent 30 minutes in line because the ONE clerk behind the counter was not only continually going as slow as possible (she always does this), but because she, the postal employee, did not know how to mail a lady's package to a European address or how to input it in the computer. She's been doing this job for YEARS.. and works on a US military base, which means packages are sent overseas OFTEN. She is so inept at her job that multiple people on base have complained about her and have resorted to driving in dangerous D.C. traffic just to mail their packages from the nearest PO.

Add to that there are a few packages I'm waiting for (not Christmas gifts, thankfully) from overseas and I have no way of tracking them at all (the company I bought from decided not to put tracking on the $60 dollar vinyl I bought). So, it's just stuck in shipping hell and I had to open a mail search request yesterday for it (it was shipped on the 29th of Nov. Should have been here a week ago).

So, even though it is a PITA, you *can* submit a search for mail request online even without a tracking number. And usually, even though it may take a few weeks or months, most mail that's been "lost" in transit to me is eventually found, sans tracking number. Holding my breath and crossing my fingers that the same happens with this vinyl since it was limited edition and I had to search around for a company that had a copy I could purchase and ship here.

Yep, that's what my dd did; she has an account with USPS and is able to see any incoming packages. BUT why did the 2 employees I spoke with locally, not know a person can do that? Not know there *IS* a way to get the tracking number? Honestly, neither one of them had a clue. And one of them is a long term employee. I cringed when I realized who was going to wait on me. :(
I think some of it also is because everybody is scrambling to fill a spot with a body to work. And many of those bodies either 1. don't care or 2. aren't as well trained as they should be.

My dd submitted a claim yesterday because she had to wait a week from the day I sent it. But she said when she finally got to talk with a person they weren't helpful or supportive at all. :( Doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

And how does one file an insurance claim for lost packages? I insured it for $600 but doubt I can find many of the receipts. And some of those receipts don't specify what the gift was, only the place it was purchased. I do have my credit cards records but dang, gonna be a pita figuring that all out and proving it was in the box. I truly do not understand how it made its way all across the states, only to end up in a warehouse the next city over from where she lives. That's mind boggling. :( She could drive over and look for it herself. :(0

All I can picture is months from now, they'll hold an auction and someone is going to make a huge haul with all the gift cards. :( Or even, some shady employee will discover them and they're easy to pocket, ya know?
Yeh, I'm not the most optimistic trusting thinker right now. :( But who knows, maybe a small miracle will occur.

@KosmosKitten, I wish you some small miracles to get all your deliveries you're expecting and hoping for!!!

In the I'm too old for fandom bs, I watch this show where one of the characters is gay. The young fandom also thinks all the other characters are some kind of gay (because they want representation) which I don't agree with but that's not my irk.

Someone posted that they thought a song coming out after the gay character died was homophobic because he would have been all over it. Which is dumb because the character is a ghost so can still listen to the song. Anyway, I know it was a lighthearted post but it irked me that members and/or allies of the lgbt community could throw that word around so nonchalantly.

Also, our office christmas dinner is tonight and I'm trying to figure out how to extricate myself before having to go through all the courses and not feel bad about it or blurt out the truth. NONE of us (except one guy who' always up for a good meal) want to be there.
