Women 200lb+, Let's Start Strong This January!!!

Well, the date for meeting the grizzly bears in Alaska is set -- July 29, 2022.
The float-plane pilot is paid.
So I MUST make that flight weight or my mother will not be able to have her bucket-list encounter up close with the bears on her 90th birthday!
When I had to report my weight fully clothed (with hiking boots and a jacket on) to the pilot last month,
I reported 195, when I actually weighed 215.
That's 20 pounds I must lose, plus another 5 for clothing, and another 5 for wiggle room --30 in all.
If that's not enough motivation, my engaged daughter is so tired of waiting for a wedding that she now wants to tie the knot (so to speak) in a simple ceremony on our boat in APRIL with just the parents, then have a small dinner celebration together and defer a party/reception until a later time.
Thinking of the life-lasting photographs that will be made in four months makes my head spin.
Tie me to a chair, double-keto -- whatever it takes! The time is now.
This forum really helped me get started last month --thank you all.
Happy 2022 everyone, and many thanks to @RavenStCloud for continuing this thread into the new year.

January goal: the edge of Onederland!
7 -
Hi everyone and Happy New Year!
I’ve been MIA since before Christmas - I went very low-technology over the holidays and am excited I was able to disconnect and relax.
Goals for 2022:
1. Hit Onederland
2. OTF 4x per wee, active recovery on the other 3
3. Stay focused on everything in moderation
4. Weigh-in daily, record here and in F2F on Mondays.
Goals for January:
1. 258-262 pounds4 -
Glad to be back and Thank you @RavenStCloud for this thread. Great support here!
Mary from Pennsylvania 64 Heaviest weight 255 lbs twice. :-(
UGW-122 lbs. I was there in 2009/10 and kept it off for 5 years then got lazy.
My goal is to continue with what seems to work for me. 1000-1200 calories, low carb 15 Net +/- 3(My body seems to not do well with carbs. It doesn't know how to burn them and hangs onto them way too much!), minimum 70 + oz of water, 2 meals/day on my days off(3) and 3 meals on my work days(which are long), exercise on my 3 days off. My weigh in day is Sunday.
9/14/20 SW-255 lbs
5/3/21-240.5 lbs Emergency Gallbladder surgery
5/14/21-232.2 lbs started MFP and Low Carb/1000-1200 calorie while recovering
6/1/21-228.8 lbs
7/1/21-222.2 lbs
8/1/21-212.0 lbs
9/1/21-200.0 lbs
10/1/21-191.4 lbs
11/1/21-181.8 lbs
12/1/21-176.2 lbs
12/26/21-165.6 lbs
I went to Texas Roadhouse on 12/28, and the weight went up. It should be just water weight from sodium.
1/1/22-168 lbs
My goal is 5 lbs for January and 15 lbs for Nov/Dec/Jan
Nov/Dec/Jan weight loss to date-13.8 lbs! :-)
1/1/22-168 lbs. I did my Elliptical today. 240 minutes for 16.5 miles.
1/2/22-168 lbs. I did my Elliptical today. 240 minutes for 16.55 miles. Needed to get back on my regular reporting weigh in day. I was hoping for a drop but with having Pork & Sauerkraut yesterday, the sodium is inhibiting that, I'm sure.
Congratulations @justanotherloser007! So great to get to numbers from our past!
@sandielewis2001 WOW! What a difference! You look younger too!

Hey all, do you mind if I join? I've been on this journey for almost a year now and could use some company! Looking forward to getting to know everyone
Name: Lynne
Age: 41
Height: 5'11" or 6', depends on the doctor
Original SW: 305.6, May 30th 2021
2022 SW: 238.9
My goals for January are to get down to 235, and to try and get out for exercise at least 2 times a week.
For 2022, I want to get down to at least 210. My motivation is to feel better about myself. I've got some health issues, and I can't do some of my favorite things because I am just too big. I've also got a 2 year old grandson, and I want to be here for him for a very long time. I'm from Southwest Ohio, where the weather is being really goofy right now, so no walk for me the past 2 days. I've walked inside my house today, did about 25 minutes before I thought I was wearing a path in the carpet. haha.9 -
@goal06082021 AMAZING!! You are in Onederland for the new year!! Totally motivating isn't it? I see you are in for picking up some great workouts. You even survived the butter restaurants! I mean, I am sure they are all like, "pfft there WAS a pea swimming in butter - that is how we make it". I know you are sad that you got your cycle back, but it is just some extra pain and water weight and emotional freakouts or paranoia depending on the type of woman you are. Personally, I think my womb is trying to kill me and I am pretty sure that wasn't in the womb's general job description (not that I hired the violent constant all scale war that is my womb)- but what do I know. How is the hubby's recovery going?
@roz0810 Beautiful new year's resolutions. Have a wonderful year!
@macKenzieLeeCanada Welcome!!
@FushiaKat I hope you have a great year, you have come soo far! And I am going to try to mirror you with the cleaning out of closets.. ugh, such kryptonite! LOLs, I am being dramatic. I also just need to declutter for peace of mind and I find you very inspirational ((hugs))
@drj63 I think reaching Onederland is wonderful!! I am not sure how much you are out to lose in total, but if you keep it up... you will keep losing. I know lots of people want to lose weight so fast, but fast or slow if you are diligent it still happens. I also think if you are able to move more and move consistently you will maybe be a little happier with your weight loss speed. Keep it up, you got this!
@swimmom_1 If we did honorable mentions, it would be you. Our woman of steel herself! Such determination! Such integrity! Saving people by day, and losing weight while doing it! Wow you had an incredible year last year! Have you ever thought about doing those challenges where you see how far you walk in a week, or year? There are some surfside challenges I think - they track how far you have walked along the coast as you work out, sounds fun. Also, there is that app called charity miles that gives for the miles you put in. I mean, since you are doing so well and going so far - might be time to kick in a little extra incentive for your hard work, I think it works with elliptical same as walking or biking.
@sandielewis2001 Your pictures show your hard work, wow you can really see it. I wish you a year of finding solutions to when life throws you a double apple pie with a wine test flight afterwards!
@seashell27 (((hugs))) there are a number of ladies here who can’t really exercise. When I first started I couldn’t exercise either. The physical therapist was really happy when I told him I had lost 80 lbs when I started to rehab my hip (I lost 60 of that without exercise). He said “Losing weight is 85% diet and 15% moving, you have no idea how many clients think they will lose weight if they could move”. It is simple, not easy lols. But you can definitely do this! I have a friend on my feed, she calls the people who can’t move “spoonies” I think it is really cute and she is a go get em sort! She lost all of her weight without exercise, I think she now has an arm exercise machine, but she can’t really walk or do elliptical either. It can be done. Take heart!
@thatbeautifulchick1988 I wish you beautiful pics for your engagement maybe this year! I would have been a chubby engagement picture taker if the dude had had FILM in the stupid camera!! Oh my goodness, stupid art school friends of the hubby. I have no engagement pics, but I am not shy generally with pics either so I have plenty of them from the time period of before there was internet and cell phones weren’t really on the scene yet. LOLs, what would that be nowadays, a photographer that had their thumb on the lens the entire time? I don’t even know. Yeah, it is a bummer when you realize that you cannot eat what the hubby eats and have his slender physique. In my case the hubby is 8” taller than me, and that affects stuff and things. I feel ya!
@JoFaulkner1 Personally, I use the power of math to help me lose weight. I tried the “just eat a little less” way that my Mom always did, but I just needed a little more information than that. I am a serial excuser, so I had some battles to fight. 1) no buffets 2) don’t spend the entire weekend eating out with the hubby. Those were my first two battles that had me not losing weight for the first year (did I mention I am a slow learner?). I tracked and did well during the week (I did not use a scale though and I am also horrible at portion sizes), home court advantage I guess they call it, and then when the weekend came I ate back all my losses for a perfect net loss of “0”. I didn’t gain though, and since my weight felt like an out of control train that isn’t shabby either! Now I am able to track and weigh my food, and walk so I kinda feel like I know what I am doing. (no, no I don’t because I tried to maintain during December and instead I just ate back my exercise calories for a week because I miscalculated using math lols. Moving and eating back exercise calories is new for me, so I didn’t quite get it right.) As for motivation, I generally don’t have this magical thing. Nor do I “believe in myself” I really don’t need either of these things thank goodness. I hold the line, keep steady, keep going no matter what, and I pray for temperance, diligence, and patience!! Literally, every morning I say the rosary and I ask for those virtues. I need those. I remember to keep good habits, and when I fail, I just keep going one step at a time. I will say that revamping my macros helped me quite a bit in June. I was not eating very much protein, as that is the macro that I dislike the most. So, now with a higher protein and daily fiber goal met I do not feel hungry like I did in the beginning. That is a real game changer for sure! Now, there are some days I don’t eat my protein because I want carb/oil then I deal. And I am hungrier, but that is something I am willing to do some days. Not all the days, because it is hard to cut with always feeling hungry. My .000000002 cents.
@tahitig Is it just me, or are you on target!! Yeah, I think you are!! Way to go!! Getting through December proper for some bear watching with Mom. Superstar!! You got this!! I can’t wait to see your pictures!!
@seltzer_lover You have been doing great and I hope you have a “Onederful” year!! Lols, I know I know stupid pun, but there you go!
@LynneM1980 Welcome!! Nice to meet you! I tried to do some laps in my tiny home and got super dizzy from all the turning around. For when the weather gets all inhospitable, next time I will opt for the Leslie Sansone 1 mile walk youtube video, I guess I could just watch it 5 times. Last time I tried the ballet, but my hips girl! My hips just can’t hang, and they don’t lie either.
Random: I picked up a lizard today and put it in my pocket. The weather got really cold this morning from 83 degrees yesterday to 30 degrees by the time my walk was going. So there were many lizards falling from trees on the trail, but this one, I could tell was still alive. When I got home, he was no longer in my pocket - so I thought he had left and went on his merry way. Nope! the cat found him! But I rescued him and put him in a thing until the weather gets less crazy. I however, realize that I need crickets lols!! Umm, anyone have any crickets?
Second random: a couple months back on my daily walk I noticed that a muskrat kept doing some chin-ups on a water drain. At first I was all like, "You got this big guy! You will have the most amazing biceps and pecks in no time!" Every single day he was at it, and he would also make little noises while he was working out. But, I mean, who doesn't when they are working on upper arm strength? About 3 weeks later, I noticed he just wasn't seeing any gains and he was still at it like a champ. So I decided to put a nice big rock where he did the chin ups, so that he could explore the water drain at leisure without waiting for his muscles to get all big and burly. I haven't seen him since. I miss you little muskrat! I hope you are still working on your arm gains in the new year!!

❄️ January Goals
⭐ Log all food and stick to 1450 calories
⭐ Majority pescatarian / vegetarian meals
⭐ Continue intermittent fasting (12pm - 8pm window)
⭐ Lift more weights
❄️ Long Term Goals
⭐ Lose enough to have a breast reduction
⭐ Improve my sleep quality
⭐ Be in my LIFE more, not in my screens
Similar to Alexandra above, I am focused on getting a breast reduction this year. I wanted it last year when I turned 50, but I feel like I did not lose enough weight to do it. I'm going to at least take the steps to have a consultation as it is something I've wanted for at least 10 years now. I'm a little intimidated by the idea, having had so many non-elective surgeries (spine, shoulder, knee), but I also know it will provide a huge improvement to my quality of life. So I'm saying it out loud that I will start taking the steps to at least investigate the process.
I had the time of my life in NYC for the past 2.5 months and I'm grateful to have only gained 5.5lbs...because any semblance of a nutrition plan went completely off the rails during my time there. The only thing that saved me was that I was walking almost 6-10 miles every day and that I was always in motion while working in my booth at the holiday market.* I got home yesterday and my body wants salad, vegetables, fruit, small meals, and my comfortable bed
One other side note that I've been thinking about a lot lately. I think one of the reasons I felt so alive in the city (besides the fact that it is, of course, New York City) is that I was so rarely on my phone or computer. My days were spent interacting with people while selling my art and generally being out in the world. My phone battery would last the whole day because I used it so rarely! I want to incorporate that feeling into my current lifestyle as much as possible...while being safe, of course. It's not easy but I just feel the need to break free from the drudgery of my own habits and daily routines.
* I *killed* it, by the way!! It was so much fun!
Here's a pic of me in my booth.
💜Happy New Year, everyone!💜7 -
@justanotherloser007 Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I'd like to be 150 or under so I have a long road ahead, but I'm going to give it my best shot! And I agree with @swimmom_1 You are the best cheerleader for all of us!!! Thank you!!!3

Hello! I am new and Would love to join this group!
HW: 265

I had reached the 130 goal weight before the pandemic. After being home from my career on lockdown and everything, I pretty much gained 100 pounds in a year and a half. Apparently, that is very easy to do. Sadly, it takes much hard work to get it off and at my age now, probably more so. But I have decided to get back on track January 1st, 2022 and all I can do now is try my best.
I wish every one here good luck!
P.S
I'm not a weekly weigher because it is discouraging for me. But may conduct monthly weigh ins, will depend5 -
@JoFaulkner1 Any weight-loss regimen works by creating a calorie deficit, that's just how weight loss happens - if you give your body less fuel than it needs in a given span of time, it's got to make up the difference somehow. These meat suits we pilot are running on 10,000-year-old software that worked great when we all had to walk several miles every day to scrape together 2000 calories' worth of food; God hasn't released the firmware patch that accounts for stuff like, you know, McDonald's drive-thrus.
If you think about it like a bank account it makes a lot of sense: it "costs" energy (i.e., calories) to be alive and go about your business; you "pay" your energy "bill" with food, but if you don't "deposit" (eat) enough food into your "checking account" (digestive tract), your body will have to pull from its "savings account" (stored body fat) to pay the bills each day. But your body doesn't want to empty all its savings at once - that's the emergency fund, we can't just dump that all at once, what if there's another emergency later??? So, if you restrict calories too harshly, your body starts finding other ways to reduce the "charges," diverting resources away from less-essential functions (and as far as your body's concerned, your heart and lungs are the only "essential" organs you have). Your hair falls out, your nails get brittle, your skin gets dry; your digestion slows down; your cognition slows down. Menstruation can stop, in bodies that normally do that. Your body does the equivalent of rummaging through the couch cushions and all the cupholders in the car for spare change, using other, non-fatty tissues for fuel, like muscle tissue. But, if you just short your body a little bit each day, it will use the emergency fund as intended, a little at a time.
If it's easier for you to maintain that small daily deficit by following rules (keto/low-carb, low-fat, paleo, wfpb, etc) rather than just counting calories, do what works for you, but ultimately no matter what method you choose, the mechanism behind it is the same as any other.
@justanotherloser007 I'll +1 your Best Cheerleader award, your posts are always so positive and encouraging! Hubs is well on the mend, thanks for askingI'm not thrilled about having my period back, but yeah it is probably a good thing, I guess, harrumph. (;
@wanderinglight omg I LOVE the "home is where..." signs. Do you still have your Etsy shop?6 -
So everyone. I now have 101lbs to lose. It's going to take a lot of time, consistency and motivation but I know i can do this!! One day at a time. My goal for end of March (12 weeks) is to drop 24lbs! Let's go!5

Hey all, well day 1 of my diet was pretty clean, easyish. Day two which was yesterday was harder. First thing in the AM my brother who is home from leave from the Army wanted to go get coffee at Starbucks. It's been hard balancing his want to go to places to eat he misses and my need to cook at home but we are balancing it lol.
So we wake up and go to Starbucks, I get a grande skinny vanilla latte, he gets his drink. Then we decided to split one of those protein boxes with the cheese and fruit, well I am sure glad we split it because wow, that thing is calorie heavy for sure! So I drink half my coffee and save the rest for today, and eat half the protein box. It was like 300 ish calories. I go to work that day and did really good. Got home and made a homemade dinner of roasted chicken thighs and roasted veggies and some garlic bread. I ate 1 pc chicken and a scoop of veggies and a piece of bread, 700 cals. WTF 🙄🥺 so basically because I had chips and salsa as a snack between my 11 am breakfast and my 7 pm dinner I was already over by almost 200 cals for the day. Which whatever its fine. I deliver for Amazon so I figured I worked that much off in my route that day.
I come home from work, my bf is ending his 4.5 hour video gaming session. I'm miffed because I asked him to just do the dishes while I worked and of course it's not done. So I'm hungry. Trying to get a healthy dinner cooked. Cleaning dishes and slicing veggies ECT. Basically we got in an argument because I told him he needs to lanag his video gaming time better, even if it's your "day off" lol, because I personally don't get days off. And also my work doesn't end when I clock out of work . . . I know y ladies hear me right 🤣💯
So while dinner is cooking we are arguing and I'm hangry and honestly not in the mood to hear his crap about him needing a day off lol. Dinner gets done we all eat, it was delicious! Not bad for my first semi heal hy family meal (mind u I was the type of mom to make frozen pizza 3 times a week so learning to cook semi healthy family meals between my work and life schedule is a goal of mine. Everyone is happy!
All of a sudden my brother is like what's for dessert 🙄🤣 I'm like shhhiiiid, I grab a Sara pee apple pie and throw it in the oven. I was completely satisfied after dinner, I really was. I have no idea why I grabbed a slice of pie and cool whip, I didn't even want it. However it did get rid of my headache I've had since day 1 of my diet, I think I am heavily addicted to sugar. I know I am lol. Soooo here I am at 5 am on day 3 trying to convince myself today is going to be better
I really think if I didn't get in an argument after work I wouldn't have ate the pie, who knows maybe I would. But I need to learn self control even on hard days. I also need to do meal prep for me at least. My family has a way different diet than I do and I can't eat like they do lol.
How is everyone else doing so far?8 -
My first goal is to lose 65 pounds, that puts me into One-derland, yay. I have about 115 to 130 total to lose5

The weather here in VA has been nuts since I got home from holiday travels. It was in the 60s/70s the last few days, but the cold is roaring in now. It's already dropped to below 40 and it's supposed to keep dropping into the 20s with some snow. I've had migraines for years, and this kind of weather shift just does me in.
Welcome to all the new folks - I'm super behind on this thread as I was largely device-free over the holidays and am just now starting to check back in. CICO and MFP really work. Meal planning, prepping, and measuring out food on a scale are your friend.4 -
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome!! It is greatly appreciated
@thatbeautifulchick1988 , I certainly hear you!! My hubby is the same way, he's on disability and doesn't do squat around the house. Annoying.
@justanotherloser007 , my house is tiny too! I live in a mobile home. It gets annoying going up and down the hallway like a caged big cat lol
I need to get out walking again today, I didn't over the weekend. My excuse was the weather. Snacked a bit after I completed my diary yesterdayand didn't track it. Yuck @ me.
2 -
@thatbeautifulchick1988 - Give yourself some grace and ease into the change. When I started I set my goal at 1700 calories and even now I have my goal just above 1500. I also calculated my future maintenance calories at goal weight (about 2100). If I go over my goal but stay below maintenance I am still in a deficit and will lose and I don’t beat myself up. This is about making changes that you can do for a lifetime not a quick fix! You’ve got this!6
