Hi
Current weight: 221
Goal: 170
I was almost at my goal weight with only three pounds to go when my mom passed away in 2017. I tried getting back on track and then I lost my job of six years at the end of 2019. COVID hit in 2020. I finally found a job, during the holidays, that I can see myself in for the long run . Now I can concentrate on getting back on track with my health. It's time to jump back on the wagon.
I will start by adding healthy foods to my diet and exercising at least three days a week.7 -
Good lord, yesterday was a doozie. I recently learned that I have arthritis in my hip with very limited cartilage. Long story short....I went to a hip doctor who basically looked at me and said we can't do anything for you until your BMI is lower. I get the risks associated with surgery but I didn't come in asking for surgery. Give me some ideas of how to manage pain in the mean time. Basically was told to get a cane, rest, don't over do and then he mansplained how to lose weight. Didn't take into account that I have been on weight loss journey for past six months. I was essentially dismissed because I was a liability.
I was so angry and hurt and all the fat-kid feelings surfaced once I left. I was so tempted to just go through a drive thru and order whatever I wanted but I didn't. I resisted and just felt defeated for the rest of the day.
Today is a new day. I will persevere and have already made steps to to go a different doctor.13 -
How's everyone's Friday going?
I have a Xiaomi Mi 6 activity tracker arriving today, so I'm looking forward to more accurately tracking my movement. I've been using a pedometer app that uses the accelerometer in my phone, so it counts steps while I'm driving and stuff like that. I want to get a clearer idea of how active I actually am and try to increase that.
I've also joined the first Reddit r/LoseIt challenge for 2022. If any of you awesome ladies are on Reddit, the challenge is open as of today! It goes for 7 weeks, so there's usually 3 or 4 of them throughout the year. There's 6 teams, we compete to see who can rack up the most steps and active minutes each week, so the new tracker should really help with that. The community is amazingly supportive (much like this one!), there's all different people at all different points in their journey. I had a really good time participating in the last challenge, so I'm super pumped for this one.4 -
I finally read all of the comments (Whew)! There's some awesomeness going on here! I hope I don't get anyone mixed up, but I'd like to respond to a few posts:
@LynneM1980 Congrats on throwing out the candy. That sad feeling is real. Sometimes I eat just to keep myself from feeling sad about life stuff and when that coping method is not there, it's hard to just sit with the feeling and not have something to help cover it up. I'm gradually learning to do that. You did it!!
@justanotherloser007 Yay! I figured out my scale and in spite of the fact that my health is "substandard" in 13 areas (YIKES) I think it's what I need to monitor my improvements. I didn't get around to wishing you and your hubs a happy anniversary yesterday so today I'll just say I hope it was a good one! Also I hope you are both on the mend. My son-in-law and granddaughter just tested positive this week. That omicron is crazy, almost unavoidable if you have any kind of life at all. Just hope you feel better soon.
@changeforeverlj I listen to podcasts often when I sew or travel in the car. I'm with you...trying to figure out why food is so gosh darn important! Your before/after pics show what determination and grit will get you...amazing results!5 -
Hi, just thought I'd share how I discovered an easy way to sneak a little more protein in my day. I'm making it a habit. I bought collogen peptides about a year ago but YuCK! I tried it in my coffee and couldn't make myself drink it. But a few weeks ago I decided to make a habit of having a cup of tea late in the afternoon and now I heat up my water, add a scoop of collogen and stir it up until it is totally dissolved, then put my teabag in and !voila! and additional painless 10 grams of protein + all the goodies from the collogen.3

Happy Friday Everyone!
Today marks 1 year since making my health a priority using MFP!
38 years old (for one more month)
5'10"
Starting weight: 271.1
Today's weight: 191.2
LTD: 79.9 lbs (I'm rounding up to 80 lol)
Other improvements:
Starting size: 20W/3X
Today's size: 12/M
My fitness has significantly improved (walking/jogging 5 miles easily up from barely able to walk 1/4 mile; can keep up with 30 min spin class without modifications).
My wife is on this journey with me and has seen similar changes. Our progress inspired my Mom to make some changes too. She joined MFP and lost 33 lbs last year!
So proud of all that I accomplished in one year and look forward to reaching my goal weight in 2022.9 -
48 yo 5โ3โ 6/2013 SW 277 ((in 2021 lost 57 lbs from May 1- Dec 31))
January goal - maintenance (I changed my goal), I am getting over being sick, I am exhausted and I have been at a decent deficit since the beginning of lent losing 7-10 lbs a month. I may decide to be in maintenance until Ash Wednesday, I would prefer to hold the line until another aggressive push towards goal weight.
12/31 172.4 (I havenโt been this weight since 1994, 27 years ago!!)
1/7 172.8
1/14
1/21
1/28
๐Walk 5 miles every single dayโฆ get ready to hike the Guadalupe Mountain Peak!!
๐Be patient! Remember that increments are where it is at, and focus on habits.
๐Maintenance, it is just as sexy as it sounds! Logging, exercising, and weighing food will all stay the same for me, the only difference is how many calories I will have in a day. In the past this is the only way I have ever maintained - so I will be here the same. Carry on ladies, we got this!!
๐Remember: Total loss of 104.2 lbs down!!

today has been stressful and hard, but I didn't go back into my old habits. I had a service call on my washing machine (which I use daily for my work/personal use) and found out that it has been broken since I go tit 1 year ago (just over) so it was out of warranty period. The cost for the fix? $1300, which is $200 more then I bought the unit for new.... I was having a bit of a panic, so I called the manufacture, and after an hour I got them to agree to pay for the repairs, parts AND labour!!
Usually, I would reach for fast food and a Starbucks to calm my nerves, but I decided to have a sashimi salad & water instead.
I am so determined to get to my goal this year. I want to show my kids that health matters.9 -
I want to say that this is my second go round but I keep telling myself that it is not - I am not the same as I was 10 years ago!
Currently
Age: 53
Current Weight: 218
Goal Weight: 170
My goals for 2022
* Feeling better - this includes my weight, accepting age related changes and taking better care on my mind.
* Since I seem to be motivated by numbers (not all of them ) I am keeping a log of miles rode on my stationary bike and miles walked on my treadmill. I just really want to make sure I use them.
* Continuing with my strength workouts - I would love to actually use my 25lb dumbbells.
* Walking outside more - this was my go to thing for mind, body & soul and since 2020 I just cannot get back into it.4 -
@changeforeverlj your photos are great! You did it before and can do it again!
@pdd1216 doctors can really make you feel bad about yourself. Glad you hung in there!
@nebslp Iโve been adding collagen to my coffee for a while now and donโt taste it at all, but I drink flavored coffee.
@sandielewis2001 congrats on one year of your journey! You are an inspiration! The 14th will be my one year, but Iโve only lost half of what you have. Iโm fine with that though. ๐
Welcome to all of the new people!4 -

I am very upset by this gain. I thought last week would have been my highest post-holiday weight. ๐ I am now up 7.9 lbs from where I was before Thanksgiving. I did get my booster this week so I didnโt work out as much. And I ate restaurant food last night so it could be some sodium.
I guess I shouldnโt be so upset by this gain. I am otherwise pretty healthy and so many people around me now have Covid. My friend and my sister are very sick and itโs been 4 weeks now. My other friend just told me sheโs gained 51 lbs since June. So I really need to get some perspective!9 -
@roz0810 my son just ordered a VR and Iโm excited to see what fitness stuff is available!3

@thatbeautifulchick1988 that's why I had to only weigh once a week because it would frustrate me with the daily changes. You've got this!!!!
@kenziestabes I spit my coffee out taking a sip at your heart monitor response. ๐๐๐
@vacamama Welcome!!! You can do this!!!
@roz0810 great on you for starting a new excercise routine! Me, too. One week in the books!
Hope everyone has great success on their next weigh in!!!!4 -

We've been at 195.8 for the past 3 days, which is at least lower than the range I was maintaining in between Christmas and New Year's. I figure this is probably hormonal, now that my period has deigned to show her face again - my Clue app tells me I should expect to see her Monday or Tuesday.
Here's how I know intermittent fasting would not work for me: I've got a very, very short threshold to go from "hungry" to "hangry." Today, unintentionally, I ended up fasting from about 10 PM last night until 11 AM today, 13 hours, almost twice as long as my body is accustomed to (I typically eat breakfast around 7 AM during the workweek). By the end of that timespan I was irritable, agitated, starting to feel frantic and like I had a debuff to DEX, for the D&D folx out there. But what I did not feel was hunger as such. We ran out to pick up the grocery order and some other things, and the plan after that was that I would make some scrambles for brunch. I've been paying attention to my body long enough to understand that the agitation et al WAS hunger wearing Groucho Marx glasses, basically, but without the past year of mindfulness under my belt, I don't know if I would have recognized what was happening and realized I needed to change my plan for breakfast, because I did not have the spiritual fortitude to cook. I heated up some leftovers and now I feel better. I've learned that my body's hunger signal is not great - if I actually *feel* Hungry, I've needed to eat for a WHILE and should stop whatever I'm doing right now to get some nutrition in me, but before it feels like Hunger it feels like a lot of other things. I want to work this year on doing a better job of noticing that before it becomes a crisis, because I know it's not great for the ol' bod to be in crisis mode all the time.8 -
Good Afternoon ladies !! Didn't do so hot with snacking yesterday, but kept it under 2k cals. Today is my hubby's birthday, and while we aren't having cake because he is diabetic and I honestly don't want it in the house, we are ordering Indian takeout for dinner. I'm fairly sure I will go over my calories again, although at this point I am really doing great with them and am on track for the day.
Been walking inside the house too, since it is COLD as heck outside!!6 -
@jazzadesigns awesome! there's a game called FitXR. its a boxing dance and HIIT workout. 4 days in and it feels just like the gym!3

Another week check-in. Welcome to all the new faces! Seeing everyone's progress, struggles, & accomplishments is very motivating, and I love cheering you all on when I read them (even if I am horrible about commenting on them). I have managed to get myself mostly back on track. I am still struggling to get in the recommended amount of protein daily, but feel like I finally have a good handle on my fiber intake :-) Hopefully next week I will be able to put a check on the strenth training goal; this is another area I really struggle with, but I have made some baby steps. For a slightly embarrassing NSV, I can say that I can finally see my lady bits again (which were previously obscured by my stomach), so no more maintenance by braille ;-) It was a big welcome suprise, lol.

Hi, Tammy!๐๐๐
I've also (re)started my weight loss journey at 260lbs. And no one in my life really understands what I'm doing or going through because they're all skinny Minnie's or have good relationships with food. But that's okay because I know it's all up to me to sink or swim and I'm strong enough to keep trying until I find out what works for me.
Certainly being on MFP has helped me tremendously and logging all my food continues to keep me in the right mindset every day (even when I'm not eating as well as I should). But each of us has a different path toward getting healthier.
Finding things that motivate you or exercises that you love can be a long process, but we'll be here for you! Sometimes extra help is needed (like meetup groups or nutritionists or gym buddies or personal trainers or therapists), but that just means you have more people on your team rooting for you.
Welcome to our group. We're glad to have you!๐๐๐8 -
Happy Sunday Funday Sunday!
Weekly Check In:
Jan 1 - 218 (SW)
Jan 9 - 213.8 (-4.2 Yeh me!)
GW: 170
Weight loss goals (posted Jan 1st):
1. Mindful Eating (eat less and foods better for me - no more snacking)
**I am snacking but healthy snacks!
2. Move more!
**I am doing good at this - but still room for improvement!
3. Log my food intake everyday into MFP
**This app makes it so easy! It did "yell" at me one day for not eating enough - but I did eat all 3 meals and the foods I chose that day really filled my up! I'm getting the hang of it. Oh...AND I had no idea that a tangerine raised my numbers that much! I shrugged it off as I figured it was better than eating potatoe chips or a chocolate bars
You guys are great motivation, and I am learning so much - about food, and about myself!
Thanks for having me in this group!

Glad to be back and Thank you @RavenStCloud for this thread. Great support here!
Mary from Pennsylvania 64 Heaviest weight 255 lbs twice. :-(
UGW-122 lbs. I was there in 2009/10 and kept it off for 5 years then got lazy.
My goal is to continue with what seems to work for me. 1000-1200 calories, low carb 15 Net +/- 3(My body seems to not do well with carbs. It doesn't know how to burn them and hangs onto them way too much!), minimum 70 + oz of water, 2 meals/day on my days off(3) and 3 meals on my work days(which are long), exercise on my 3 days off. My weigh in day is Sunday.
9/14/20 SW-255 lbs
5/3/21-240.5 lbs Emergency Gallbladder surgery
5/14/21-232.2 lbs started MFP and Low Carb/1000-1200 calorie while recovering

11/1/21-181.8 lbs
12/1/21-176.2 lbs
12/26/21-165.6 lbs
I went to Texas Roadhouse on 12/28, and the weight went up. It should be just water weight from sodium.
1/1/22-168 lbs
My goal is 5 lbs for January and 15 lbs for Nov/Dec/Jan. Met my goal of 15 lbs already!
Nov/Dec/Jan weight loss to date-17.2 lbs! :-)
1/1/22-168 lbs. I did my Elliptical today. 240 minutes for 16.5 miles.
1/2/22-168 lbs. I did my Elliptical today. 240 minutes for 16.55 miles. Needed to get back on my regular reporting weigh in day. I was hoping for a drop but with having Pork & Sauerkraut yesterday, the sodium is inhibiting that, I'm sure.
1/9/22-164.6 lbs. Finally!!! The water weight left yesterday and had a long awaited drop today. Lowest weight I've been in 6-7 years. I did 244 minutes on my Elliptical for 17.1 miles.

@Jtchowski2 - welcome and you've made a good start by joining MFP. I've been logging off and on for quite a while. Sometimes 1 step forward and 2 steps back. It's a day at a time. Some good some more difficult. I find that reading these posts give me information and inspiration. I lost my husband last year and some days are really tough, as I'm an emotional eater. I'm 70, with bad knees, and weigh 262. Someone told me not what I need to 'do' this year, but how do I want to 'feel. Well, I want to feel healthy, have more energy, feel 'safe' on lonely nights. I want to feel some joy this year mixed in with the tears. So take care of yourself; think about what makes you happy, what doesn't. And maybe set some small goals. I'm going to try it, too.
Even though we're all at different stages, we have the courage and strength to share our struggles. And that's a good thing!
And @RavenStCloud- thank you for keeping us all going!!! ๐โค4 -
SW (7/23): 300
12/20: 265.6
1/3: 263.8
1/10: 262.1
Goal range for January: 258 - 262
My body did one of those weird "drop alll the weight" weeks last week, so naturally I'm up a bit today. But this is where trends (and Happy Scale) are so important, because I'm still losing and still down overall, even though I'm up from last week's low.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and is ready to tackle the week!6
