How often do you weigh yourself?

I completely agree with you. I weigh myself daily and it is so discouraging sometimes. I find that I feel like giving up if I see the number going up even though I'm doing all the right things...eating correctly, working out 5-6 days a week(3 days weights and cardio, 2-3 days just cardio). Can anyone give me some tips? Any inspirational comments? I have been having such a difficult time.
The trainers at my gym told me that doing too much cardio can actually increase you're BMI because you're burning muscle and not fat.0 -
Really?? How often do they recommed doing cardio?0
-
I"ve heard doing cardio 3x a week for around 30 min, and then strength training the other days. But to give your body days to recover as well.
Good luck!0 -
I Do it once a week. I would go nuts doing it everyday0

Well they told us when you do cardio that you do not need to do more than 30 minutes. My friend and I try to go to the gym 3-4 times a week, which is what they recommend, but they also don't want us going nuts on the cardio machines. Sometimes you see those people that look like they're about to fall off the treadmill or break an arm off the elliptical. For example, we train once a week with the trainer for 30 minutes then he has us do 2 miles on the treadmill at a speedwalk pace because it will burn the fat. You need to give your body ample time to rest as well. If you are going 6-7 days a week and even though everyday is not a strength training day your body is not resting.0 -
I weigh every day just to keep on track. I log once a week.
If its bothering you, stick it in the closet until your weigh in day0 -
I wish i had the will power to stay away from the scale and only weigh once a week, however I always find myself stepping on every day while I'm in weight loss mode. Now, the opposite happens when I'm not trying to loose weight, I find myself not stepping on for weeks becuse I just don't want to know.0

I usually shoot for once a week, same time each week. But more importantly do your measurements. These tell the real story. The scale is quick and dirty and is often influenced by factors that make it inaccurate (like water retention, time of day, etc).
My thoughts exactly. I totally understand the thought of going to just once a month, but then you do lose that element of accountability. Some people do great with just going by how their clothes fit, but I need more concrete evidence when I'm trying to lose. So I do the once a week thing, just telling myself ahead of time to remember I had something really salty the day before, or it's that time of month. But the tape measure is your real friend. A once-a-month (or even twice a month) measuring session can really tell the story, especially if you measure several places, not just the "big three". One measurement may stay the same for a few weeks, but another will be smaller.0 -
I weigh probably daily... but i only record once a week-ish
it keeps me in check, but i dont let it bother me if i see a pound or 2 fluctuations.
This is what I do.
My "official" weigh-in is once a week. The daily ones either let me know I'm on track or prepare me for when I know it's going o be a disappointing week.
However since starting to use MFP more (i.e. the last week) I've tended to put my weight in every day. I may stop doing that soon.0 -
Once every 2 weeks.0

I do it once a week but I admit that there are days that the scale will be calling my name so maybe twice or worse 3 times a week at most but I am seriously considering to only weigh myself once every 2 weeks (2x a month) to really know my progress and not just a continues yoyo from weighing myself more often than necessary. I just need the willpower to stay away from my scale.0

I weigh myself every Monday. That way if the previous week was a little rough I can go back and see where I might be able to change things up. This will set my focus for that week, and generally it works.
I personally could not wait a month to weigh in.... especially if it was a bad month.. thats four weeks of not being able to correct and find a problem that may exist.
If you decide to weigh in once per month, make sure you are filling in your food diary DAILY... at least stay on top of your calories, and make sure your eating a good balanced meal.
cheers

Every Morning Daily0

I weigh myself almost every morning - not because I'm obsessed with seeing iF the numbers are going down but because it just mentally keeps me on track. It just kind of keeps me aware. I only "record" my weight once a month or so0

I have a weight watcher's brand scale, and it does NOT fluctuate at all (i.e. for almost 2 weeks i weighed exactly the same down to the ounce!), which I guess was good but I felt like I was on a plateau for a while. Although my clothes slowly fit better and finally it's starting to change on the scale again. But it makes me realize I just need to be patient!0

I only do it once a month. Daily or weekly affect me waaaayyyy too much. Hard to deal with the ins and outs of it potentially being water weight, or whatever when I saw the same pound or 2 go up or down. A good solid month will reflect weight loss or weight gain, and makes seeing a good chunk of weight go in a specific driection more accurate, in my opinion.0

I was weighing myself everyday and was just ready to give up because of all of the fluctuations! I waited a week and weighed myself this morning and am much happier with what my scale said! I am going to stick with the weekly weigh-in to ensure I keep myself motivated!!0
-
I weigh daily just so I can keep track of what my body does, but I only record weekly. The 1-2 pound fluctuations don't bother me anymore.0
-
Every single day.. I'm officially obsessed.
However, I only really keep "track" of the weigh-in on Friday or Saturday of each week...0 -
Not often, im glad my home scales broke. Once i feel my clothing getting more loose i'll maybe more curious to find out but im just aiming to get into the jean size i want without being obsessive which i can be with the scales.0

I ONLY WEIGH MYSELF ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS, (IF THAT). I CAN TELL BY MY CLOTHES,PLUS I HATE THE NUMBERS ON THE SCALE,LOL I THINK IF UR HONEST WITH URSELF U KNOW IF UR CHEATING OR NOT BY WHAT UR EATING. REMEMBER NOT 2 BE 2 HARD ON URSELF. GOOD LUCK!!!0

This question is asked like everyday. I do it daily. I zigzag diet, so on days where Im on my higher end of calories, my results are pretty dispointing, but my low end, im very very pleased0

I weigh once a week, skipping the pre-menstrual week. I gain about 2 lbs of water weight that week, and I'm miserable enough fighting off my urge to eat every carby/chocolatey/salty thing in sight without adding the perception of a 2 lb gain!
I keep meaning to take all my measurements so that I'll have a non-scale way of tracking progress, but I keep forgetting to do it. My clothes fit differently now, so I keep that in mind if the scale seems a little cruel on a particular week.0
