I probably sound mad but I do find the weekly weigh in a massive motivation but the calorie counting is clearly working better for me as I was up by my own scales all week and only started back counting yesterday and I'm down 2.5lbs today at slimming world weigh in!
Iv at least 5 stone to loose just wondering does anyone attend slimming world for weigh in etc but calorie count? I know there's the money side of it

I don't . . . but it's 100% not crazy. Whatever combination of successful tactics works for you (motivating, affordable, sustainable, healthful, etc.) is good . . . no matter how other people might think it's weird.
Best wishes!2 -
I understand why you would want to go but it feels a little fraudulent. Folks there are following the SW plan and you’re not so feels a bit like you’re fooling your group. Xx1

I listen to a Podcast based almost entirely on this premise! Three women, all long term Slimming World attendees who go off piste all the time to try various other methods, with varying, hysterical results!
They’ve been doing the podcast for over 3 years and I’ve had to smile as one of them ‘found’ calorie counting in the second half of last year. Logging her food etc and began extolling the virtues of being able to eat what she wanted within her calorie goal and how freeing it all felt.
Interestingly, all three are all on the calorie counting bandwagon and still going to SW to weigh most weeks. For the first time in the podcast’s history they’re all losing! 😂
It’s called ‘Secret World of Slimming Clubs’ on the Secret Recording network if anyone is interested. I highly recommend it as a comedic view on the whole weight loss topic!3 -
You really need to look at your weight trend and understand why your weight fluctuates. Takes some research. It is not always obvious. But long term knowing why is truly useful.
Why am I saying this?
Not because I disagree or think it is a bad idea to do whatever combination of plans you find sustainably useful!
If counting calories and showing up for a weigh in helps you, yeah for you and more power to you! 👍
The reason for this post is because you **appear** to be attributing a 2.5 lb overnight weight loss to starting calorie counting the day before.
2.5lbs of fat represents 8500 to 9000 Calories. Theoretically exactly 8750 Cal but I'm trying to get across that there's errors and ranges for all of these things.
So just because you started calorie counting you did not eat 8750 less calories than what you spent on the one day.
Why not look at your weight trend over time? Also take into consideration what times of the month you may have more or less water retention taking place. You're after fat level changes not water weight changes!
There are a few apps around that do estimate your weight trend for you... why not use one?
The benefit of calorie counting is that if you're willing to put in the effort, and you aim for appropriate goals, you can reach your goals while maximizing what you eat.
Most other methods result in blunter, harder to modulate, and often larger than necessary deficits which can prove counterproductive. (Of course I'm biased towards calorie counting--that's why I'm on MFP 😉)
