Food that you won't overeat.
Seriously.

There are no specific foods that are "good for losing weight".
You lose weight when you eat fewer calories than you burn, so buy foods that you like and keep you within your calorie goal.
The things you mention are great...meats, fruits, veggies, grains...in whatever combination you like., but obviously you can go heavy on the veggies if you want high-volume and lower calories.3 -
This is something you will need to figure out what works for you, and it may take some time. Unfortunately, I don't have a suggestion for shopping list but maybe can be of help for ideas that might help along the way...
Me personally, I have one specific trigger food that appears to start the never ending day binge. Bread....
I dont eat it. I swap out low cal wraps in its place. (You may find you have binge foods or maybe you dont). Cheese used to be on the list, but I am starting to be able to eat that in moderation now.
I also started looking at calorie count on products when shopping. I have swapped out some higher calorie for lower calorie items (if I like the taste). Example salad dressing, yogurts, low cal fudgesicle for high calorie ice cream.
I have always eaten fish, chicken and 90% lean beef so no major change. I also eat a lot of turkey deli meat for an easy wrap. But I do indulge in a steak, ribs, and yes fried foods too. I just make sure I fit into my allowance or tweak for the next day or two.
I have started eating more vegetables. I like veggies raw and cooked and now try to eat 3 servings a day or more. (This doesnt always happen, but a big salad takes care of this more often then not.)
I am not a huge fruit eater so bananas are about my only go to.
I have not restricted anything (other than bread) and am learning to eat smaller portions and pre-logging so I can fit foods I normally eat in my daily allowance. I am learning (still a process in the works, I am in only 3 months now) of trying to make this a change I can live with for the rest of my life. So if chocolate cake and cookies are in my future weight maintenance, they are in my menu now too.
This is working for me. Will it work for you? Maybe ... Maybe Not.
I am not per se on a diet. I consider it a life style change.
Others have found success with more restrictive diets. I have tried many in the past with failure.
A positive attitude will take you far. Setting realistic goals and not being too restrictive will make it much easier. IMO
Not quitting when you do fall astray and not being hard on yourself when it happens. Keep logging everything and tomorrow is a new day to succeed.
Welcome and I am sure you can do this!5 -
Yup. Foods you personally enjoy eating, find filling, can afford, and find practical to prepare/eat, and that add up to reasonable calories (and ideally reasonable nutrition as well, IMO).
For most of us, it takes some experimenting.
A thing that can work is to log how you eat now, and notice things that "cost" more calories than they seem worth to you. Then, reduce or eliminate those. At first, you can use those cuts to reach your calorie goal; once you're there, you may cut further to improve your satiation or nutrition, or just to get to an eating pattern that you personally find most tasty, satisfying and practical.
If that idea appeals to you - because it won't be perfect for everyone, nothing is! - there are more details here:

Weight loss can potentially be looked at as a project with an end date, but that has pitfalls. Long term weight management - staying at that healthy weight permanently, ideally - is more about finding enjoyable, satisfying eating and activity habits that we can continue more or less on autopilot forever, as real life gets complicated (because it will).
Best wishes!2
