Like Scott I fear today will be the last cool morning in Tx for weeks to come (maybe months). Mornings will still be around 70 but humidity will be up so dew points will be climbing. I always like to post this chart to make myself fee better about scrappy runs. Mostly in the mornings here the dew point is between 70 and 75 all summer long. And in the afternoons it drops but the temp is normally almost 100 so it's a choice.

I didn't update the last couple of days, but I did run. Yesterday it was 70°F and humid. Today was really nice at 55°F. I ran 5 miles yesterday and 1.5 today. Both runs were nice, but uneventful. We had a *kitten* tournament yesterday at work. My team got 2nd place and won $100 each. Tomorrow I am going to get together with my mom and my sisters to celebrate Mother's Day. I will need to get a quick mile in before we go.

I tried a new route for my long run. Was meant to be out and back, but I didn't want to pass a mean dog - whose gate was open😱 - a second time (teeth bared and coming at me, not responding to my yelling at it to get back, etc), so I circled around and had to go a couple km further than planned, but it ended up being fine. 23-something km. I mostly tried to keep an even, slow pace, using breathing as my guide, also took walk breaks and ate pretzel sticks as needed. The route was very flat, but pretty and on quiet roads. On the way back I was greeted by a very disobedient and very tiny little white puff-ball of a dog that was so excited to see me, it completely ignored its owner. I ended up picking him up and handing him over, because she wasn't able to catch him.

Oh, and I looked up the trail from the other day. It was $500,000 worth of concrete and other "improvements", they started in December (aren't finished yet), and were immediately met with resounding disapproval from the community. Doesn't seem to be stopping them, though.

I haven't commented since page 2. I have read and liked and hugged and tried to comment using my phone while the daycare kids slept, but I kept losing the post instead of posting it, so gave up with that. It's been a rough week exercise wise. Plans changed and made it virtually impossible to run Mon through Wednesday. Then, on the one day I was supposed to have off work, Thursday, I woke up sick....never really got "sick," but feeling nauseous and just tummy issues in general. I did do the riding mowing at mom's but that is all I could manage. All I ate that day was 2 pieces of dry toast and a large baked potato. So, even though I felt better on Friday, I didn't have the energy to run and today, well, I'm saying I'm still recovering, but part of it is being lazy, I'm sure. I'm just calling this week a bust and starting back where I left off with my plan on Monday, I hope. I did manage to get in a mile walk everyday, so I kept the streak going. So, there's that.
You guys are doing great on your runs. I'm not going to even try to comment on everyone, but there are a few I just can't let go.
@7lenny7 I couldn't find the original post where you talked about having to be alnatural to get warm. I would have been freezing too and probably at least thought of doing the same. I do carry a couple of blankets in my car all the time, so I would have used those to dry and stay warm while my clothes dries. I too like that this is not the standard by which we run...clothed or not clothed. Love your running trail pictures. Love that you are running your neighboring city streets and GVRAT. Since I live in TN, I'd love to do that, but there's no way I could do that many miles in 4 months. The clothing optional races are so funny. Who knew there would be enough interest for that to be a thing?

@SummerSkier The Streak comes on 70's on 7 (Siurs XM) every once in a while. It makes me smile.
@polskagirl01 Glad your son enjoyed the hike. It looks like a great one. Is that hang gliders in one of the pictures? I've always wanted to try that. I think it would be easier than jumping out of an airplane. Pretty place to run. Do you think they added the concrete paths so it would be accessible to wheel chairs and baby strollers? Sorry about the aggressive dogs, but the forest is very pretty!
@Faebert So sorry to hear about your accident. That sounds horrible. I'm glad you have recovered enough to start running again. Just take it slow and easy until you build back up. We are all cheering for you!
@eleanorhawkins Glad to see you back. Sounds like a great choice to drop EC3. You'll do great with the races that you signed up for doing your own training. I love the term excitifed too! I'm glad to see that you are going to get to go see your dad next month. How is he doing?
@yirara That's scary to get dizzy and faint when you are the furthest from home. I hope that doesn't happen to you again. Do you think it was dehydration or too little nutrition?

Oh, I did a thing last night. I signed up for the Space Force T Minus 10 miler yesterday. It's on Dec 10th on Cape Canaveral! Should be a fun race. They asked for an estimated completion time. I had no idea, so said 2:20:00 - that's 14 min mile average. Surely I can do that.

Oh, interesting @quilteryoyo. My boyfriend bought a condo near-ish to Cape Canaveral. I will have to check this out as a possible convenient destination race! I love the space theme.

The "re-commit to running" plan that my friend and I began went pretty well this week. We planned short runs, with the goal being consistency rather than distance. This week our goal was just 20 minute runs together at least 3 times. Today we did our "long" run, and that also went ok. It all seems so little but the mental part of saying not today, I'm too tired/stressed/don't have time is what is the hardest to overcome right now. And 20 minutes of running is achievable enough that I can say yes, I can squeeze that in.4 -

My plan had an 8k race on the schedule for today. I planned to just run it in my neighborhood. As soon as I saw the weather I knew it wasn't happening. Mid 70s, 98% humidity. Brutal. I set out with a goal to run it faster than I would normally. Make it a workout even though I knew I couldn't hit a 10k race pace. Warmed up for about a half a mile then focused on building some speed. I managed a decent second and third miles before I had to slow it down. My HR was pretty high for the effort and I knew I couldn't maintain the faster pace. I wound through the neighborhood searching for sprinklers. Only found one and it was glorious!
It was a hard run and the 10k I am scheduled for is probably not going to go well. I've had the thought of DNS the race, which I have never done. But by the time the race comes around I'm sure I'll just show up and run the 10k but will almost certainly not be close to a new PR.4 -

I'm in the way too much, way too young camp.... BUT you never really know from the outside. Maybe they're raising the road version of the next Killian Jornet?
@quilteryoyo sorry you've had a bad week. I very much admire your willpower and commitment to keeping moving even in circumstances when most would just not bother, while also being wise enough not to overdo it.
My Dad is doing well physically, and maybe 75% of the time he sounds his usual self. But then he'll tell me the same stuff every week for a month and get upset if I mention he already told me, confuse me with my half-sister or even ask if I know her... not sure how much is due to the tumour/surgery and how much is just age-related forgetfulness.
I got fed up with Garmeen the drama queen's battery dying after an hour and replaced her about a month ago. Garmeen II is another *kitten*... admittedly I started using her just before I ran 2 HMs in 15 days, so the runs she's been recording are far from normal, but she's very shouty about me not being productive and doing too much high intensity and yada yada yada. This morning she has decided to tell me I'm losing condition, so I'm going to have to drag myself out for a run now 🙄 That wasn't on the original plan, but turns out we get next Saturday off from self-defense so we're going to Tarifa for the weekend, so was going to move my runs forward a day anyway.
I remember a few years ago there was a guy in the uk who had a lot of mental health issues and decided to get over them but running pretty much naked. He would run races nude or in a thong, and all I could ever think was what about the chaffing?3 -
Our weather was lovely this morning so didn't want to miss it as there's a lot of rain forecast for next week. The family that ran the marathon has even made it on to our media here with some calling it child abuse.
@quilteryoyo - Sorry to hear you've been sick, I did notice you hadn't been commenting like usual. I don't know where you get all your energy from, you do so much!

@katharmonic Yes. Check out the race. It would be cool if we could meet in real life there. I want to do this race because I worked on Cape Canaveral when I was in the AF and my late husband's family live about an hour from there, so I can visit with them while I am there. I agree that overcoming the "I'm too tired/stressed/don't have time" is really hard to overcome. That's why I concentrated on wunning last month. It seemed to help me get over that hump.
Thanks @martaindale At least you got out there and ran it. If you keep running in a hotter part of the day, hopefully it won't be as miserable as you are expecting and I doubt if anyone will get close to their PR when it is hot and humid. Maybe it's one of those races that you just go out and enjoy the day and the company of other runners and not worry about pace. I know that is easier said than done though.
@polskagirl01 I had to look up the difference between paragliders and hang gliders. Paragliding sounds like fun and a bit less dangerous. I'll try to read the article later, but I agree. I wouldn't brag about multiple CPS investigations.

I hope you have a great visit. Hahaha about your Garmeen. Mine keeps telling me I am maintaining and then, earlier this week, when I didn't run for two days, it said I was peaking. What? Now I'm recovering. I guess that's okay. I mostly just ignore what she says and do my thing. Are you using one of the Garmin coaches or trying to do the daily workouts it suggests?

Oh I totally ignore Garmeen, apart from maybe trying to rest or stick to gentle stuff when she claims I need 3 days recovery. The daily workouts are hilarious... she was suggesting I did 10 second sprints at 3.10 min/km the other day... bearing in mind my fastest ever km was 4.24 min and that was downhill I think the only way I could hit 3.10 would be to climb the mountain and jump off the top lol.
I've made myself a training plan by basically slotting Hal's novice 1 marathon in between the race I have at the end of this month and the one I have at the beginning of October, then trying to tick over in the 3 weeks between that and the big race. Figured although it isn't quite a marathon I would be better training as if it is, and including as many hills as possible within that framework. ECs 1 and 2 both checked and approved it, too.
My husband decided to come out with me this morning, so we walked to the river trail, then did a couple of kms of run/walk intervals, then I went ahead for another couple slow steady before going back for him and run/walking another km to make it 5. I found it nerve-wracking because he was behind me and I could hear him dragging his feet... he has no idea how many times I've tripped on that trail before I learned to pick my feet up! Good part was it made it slow enough for Garmeen to count is as low intensity for once 🙂5 -

These temps are not a hotter part of the day. This was 7am. We hit our lows here at 6-7am and unfortunately, this is just what it is for the next several months. The high that day was 93F. This race will 100% be as miserable as I am expecting but that’s ok. I’m not really complaining. I know what the weather is like this time of year. I don’t know what I was thinking signing up for a race. Well, that’s partially true. I was thinking that I like race days, even if I am not racing. And they are a fun break in the midst of training plans. I have run plenty of races as training runs or fun runs. But, in the back of my mind this was the culmination of a training plan and I wanted to see the results of my efforts. That was where my logic got faulty. End of May in coastal TX does not equal PR conditions. I will have fun even if I am not fast!5 -

@eleanorhawkins Your watch sounds way bossier than mine. Maybe I have something turned off but mine doesn’t tell me if I am productive or not. It doesn’t comment one way or the other on my runs. I don’t spend a lot of time on the garmin app since i use strava so maybe I’m just not seeing that info. I think I would get annoyed at being told I was unproductive!
Sounds like you have a good plan worked out for your races. I am also a fan of possibly over preparing rather than under preparing, so I would probably do a marathon plan even if the race was not quite a marathon distance.1 -

Honestly impressed you’ve made it this far before going shirtless! I had a couple of weeks where I felt awkward being shirtless last month and have moved on to not giving a #@$* already. It’s too hot to wear anything more than absolutely necessary!4 -

I'm just laughing at it at the moment and waiting to see if it improves over time. But I've seen @garygse say his does the same and he's far from unproductive, so who knows?

Not sure if today went very well or not I wanted to run a bit longer and slower, but was apparently a bit restless and did the fastest 4km in ages. So no complaint. Something seems to have hit a switch in my body because suddenly I seem to be able to run a bit faster again.
@quilteryoyo no idea why the longer run went so wrong. I guess my body was just acting up, as it does sometimes. Shrugs. I'll certainly try the route again as I need to find longer running routes if I want to do other things than multiple circles.4 -

I bought the garmin 745 about 2 weeks ago & find it very entertaining. On 1st run it said it was poor & overreacting. I thought if I went any slower I’d be standing still. Then on Thursday it gave me a ‘Well Oiled Machine’ badge.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread very well the last couple of days. I did get a mile run in yesterday before I went to my sister's to celebrate Mother's Day. We had a great time. All four of my sisters were able to come and my nephew and his wife came and I finally got to meet my great nephew who is four months old.
My run yesterday was short and it was already hot at 70°F at 8:30 am. We got up to 104°F yesterday. Today was supposed to be even hotter. So I just ran 8 miles today. It was 80°F at 8:15 this morning and 88°F feels like 91°F when I got home. It got up to at least 104° today and it is still 100° now at 6:30. Today's run wasn't a bad run, just hot. I tried to run in the shade as much as possible.
I have spent the rest of my mother's day just relaxing. I did little yoga and both my kids called so I have been on the phone lot. I hope all of you have had a good mother's day if you are mom's and hope you have been able to celebrate your mom if you not. And hugs to those who are missing their mom today.

Glad your husband went out with you today, even if it was nerve wracking. Maybe he'll learn before he trips and hurts himself.

@Mari33a Funny. I think the Garmin may get better overtime, but it is funny when I'm having a hard run, for me, and it tells me I'm unproductive and when I walked all this week, the first 3 days it said I was peaking. LOL Now I'm recovering...at least it's right about that, just not recovering from running.

I walked a mile on the treadmill this afternoon since Sunday's are my rest days....not that I needed to rest today. I'm having a horrible start to my month, with only 9.10 miles out of the planned 80 so far. I'm sure I won't make my goal, but, if I can get most of my plans runs accomplished the rest of the month, I'll be happy.5
