I took a week off tracking, logging and specific exercise while on vacation and I had no problem getting right back to it now that vacation is over.19

I wanted to get in a walk before it got dark and cold again. I had to drag myself away from being productive inside, but that's a good thing. I can be productive after dark, when it's cold out, or when it's dumping rain. We had some decent sky out, and it wasn't THAT cold... yet.
I did a loop mostly on pavement starting with a walk from my house down to the park then about 1.5 miles or so down the paved path through the sports fields to the southern part of the park, then around by the river, and back up to a non-busy street. Then I went through a little cut-through path to another neighborhood street and back home.
So there I was, walking back home. It was starting to get cold. The sun hadn't set, but the chill was descending. I had already got in my daily steps BEFORE I even started my walk, but like I said, it was just so nice out. Anyway, there was someone waiting for the bus. I thought, "Hmmm. The bus is about to go by." The bus is "fareless." We all pay a little bit every month so anyone can ride the bus anytime whether they live here or not. I have mixed feelings about that, but... Anyway, it would have been easy to hop on the bus and cut a mile off the return trip. There's a bus stop less than a quarter mile from home.
And then I hear it. Here comes the bus. It stopped, and the person waiting attached their bike to the front. It wasn't crowded on the bus; maybe one other passenger. I had plenty of time to hop on.
I walked by the open door and just kept walking. Then I even added an extra loop to my walk near the end to add about a quarter mile and just make it more interesting going through a little back trail behind a friend's house and then a field near mine.
I got home just as the sun was setting.20 -
This is a fairly long one.
We moved across the world (South Africa to Canada) 19 months ago. When we moved here I was at my comfortable healthy weight - 61-63kg, it would vary a little bit but that was my happy spot.
Since initially losing 30kg in 2016 I had at times gained some of it back, and would then work hard to get it down to that happy range.
So, long story short, nobody at my job in Canada had ever seen me at an 'unhealthy' weight.
Cut to September 2022 and combination of study stress and some family stuff, without even realising it I went back to some of my worst habits - indulging in way too much desserts and sweet stuff and so the weight started to creep back up again. December holidays did not help at all - lots of junk food and big dinners meant suddenly the day after Christmas I weigh in and turns out I had gained almost 9kg since arriving in Canada. It was a shock and big reality check for me - first time above 70kg in a long time.
So what is the NSV - well I was chatting with my boss today and somehow the topic turned to January 'diets' and weightloss trends.
I mentioned to her that I actually started to change my lifestyle once again to prevent returning to my previous high weight and the resulting health problems. She looked at me in surprise and asked, but surely you have not gained much weight? She could not believe it when I told her it had been 9kg. She said she never even noticed thst there had been any weight gain.
So my NSV: Even though my emotions are telling me that everybody that sees me regularly will know I have gained weight and are judging me, turns out, people really do not look at us and immediately see the same 'flaws' we do.
Do not get me wrong, just because she has not seen the weight gain does not mean I now feel it is not necessary to lose the rest of it. I do want to lose it to fit better in my clothes and to continue improving fitness goals, but now I know that I can shut up the bully in my brain yelling at me that everyone is judging me for my 'fall from the wagon'.15 -
I went skiing yesterday, and the snap on my snowpants didn't pop open when I was bent over to tighten my boots.14

@Snipsa Your post really resonates with me! I have that same feeling of shame both in myself and in the thought that everyone knows I "failed" and have gained weight. I even tell myself others are talking about me! It's so toxic! In reality, I bet noone has any clue or even cares! AWESOME to you for recommitting to yourself!
@mtaratoot How did you feel when you got home? I bet you were smiling and proud. That is fantastic!!7 -
The other day I was on a walk. I've been walking a lot. I was with a friend; we walked about 6.5 miles through a nearby park that we can both walk to from our homes.
I was describing the features of the fitness tracking wrist device I wear. I showed her my VO2Max data and how walking more the last several weeks has improved it. With a smug grin, I showed her that it said I'm in the top 25 percentile of people my gender and age range and that it showed my "Fitness Age" (whatever that really means) was a number that is 16 years younger than my chronological age.
Well knock me over with a feather, dip me in chocolate, and roll me in ants; when we got done with that walk, my VO2Max had improved by a point, and my "Fitness Age" also changed to a number that was 17 years younger than what the calendar would tell me.
Is it OK for me to feel just a little bit of pride?
My fitness age is 20 years younger Yeah, it's a great ego boost! (and I'll selectively ignore that Runalyze gives me a VO2max that's 9 points lower )
Whether it's true or not, if it helps us stay fit, it's all for the better!8 -
Today's NSV for me (even though it is related to what the scale says) is that I have left behind Obese-BMI-land and have re-entered Overweight-BMI-territory, for the first time in almost 15 years. Whatever controversies the BMI charts may have regarding women's weight or aging, it is one metric which allows me to track progress, and it's kinda thrilling.
It was great to move down from Obese Class II to Obese Class I, but this is better. In another 28 pounds I hit the Healthy range!

My NSV today is 2 more pounds down, I have omitted carbs as much as possible. My sugar was 9
5 and bp is 114/79 pulse 45, so all of this made me a very happy 76 year old woman...Good day everyone .13 -

I was also happy to move from Obese II to Obese I, and I look forward to getting out of Obese for good (about 12 more pounds). BMI has its issues, as you say, but I am not a bodybuilder or other body type that is likely to get an inaccurate score. I simply have too high a percentage of body fat. Good for you for hitting those numbers! I hope to join you soon!4 -

TBH, I lost track of progress toward this signpost. Today I calculated and was surprised to discover I had arrived! I am grateful that this feels more like a journey, underway and ongoing, than a finite program with its goal. I have lost weight; I am losing weight; I will lose weight; I will maintain a healthy weight forever.

My snow pants fit over my jeans without issue. This was not the case in December - even while wearing thin tights I had to wiggle and suck in my stomach to button them.
Oh and the scale is a lying liar who lies. It claims I’ve only lost 300g between now and then.11 -
Donuts are a special weakness of mine. Today my boss was kind enough to drop off a large box of donuts for the office to share. Within minutes it was already half empty.
I stood in front of that box for over a minute, staring and smelling, before walking away without a backwards glance.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy donuts a couple times per month, but it's on purpose and planned within my daily calorie budget. Since these donuts would not fit, I forsook taking part. A few years ago I would've had one (or more) anyway and tried to rework the rest of my day to "make them fit" but not today.21 -
Buying a smaller size… 😊
Went thrifting today and found a cute tshirt dress just right for the coming spring and thought to myself that’s too small that won’t fit me, then I remembered I’ve lost weight and should try a smaller size than I’m used to buying… it was cute and cheap so I bought it thinking well if it doesn’t fit now I can use it as motivation to fit into later, I tried it on when I got home and it fit perfectly… 😊 surprised even myself.. it’s super cute too…16 -
1. I've been fluctuating in water weight for various reasons and I haven't let it bother me. I know I'm on track and not too fussed about inconsistent scale progress.
2. In the last two weeks I've lost about 4 inches in total, including 1 inch from my waist!
3. About a month ago I made an effort to increase my protein intake and today in the shower I noticed my quads seem much more defined! May just be wishful thinking lol but I'll still take it!12 -
This was before I joined this community, but after starting my most recent journey: I discovered I have shoulder dimples. I've never in my life been thin (and flexible) enough to see them. I've been over 220 pounds since I was in about fifth grade. I'm under that now. Not by much, but I am. I'm also taller than I was in fifth grade. Also not by much XD It's a slow journey, especially now that I'm in a significantly less active job, but seeing those dimples makes me realize I'm not as lost as I sometimes worry I am.10

My NSVs this week are that I had to tighten the laces on my sneakers as they became loose from losing weight. I'm also sleeping better, closer to 8hrs instead of 6-7, and my overall energy has increased.12
-
My NSV is that I’ve recommitted to my weight loss journey after screwing around for 5 years & regaining 20 of the 60 lbs I lost before. It’s good to be back😄15
-
I'm sleeping great and have way more energy than I thought was possible!9
-
Is this a NSV though....? My bra is definitely looser on the girls. Bittersweet. Ha! Always the first to go. Nice to see some change though.9

I'm one of these people that gets rid of clothes as soon as they don't fit so I no longer have any of my 'slim clothes' and I've been around my November 22 starting size for years now so only have clothes in the wardrobe that fit me.
Since losing a lot of weight after seriously starting my new lifestyle in November, all of my clothes have been hanging off me to the point that a lot of people comment on it. I'm not buying new clothes until I get to my goal weight as I don't want to waste money.. All of my clothes are a UK 16, or XL in men's. I forgot I had accidentally bought a pair of trousers that were on the wrong size hanger but put them in the wardrobe anyway to get rid of during my next clear-out, I put them on and they're too big for me... They're a UK size 12!!! I can't believe it.
Not to mention last week I bought a new pair of gym shorts but bought them in my usual size because my brain hasn't caught up with my body, I still think I'm big, and to keep them from falling off me I had to tie the drawstring super tight!
I have a lot of people telling me how much I've lost and how much smaller I look but I really cannot see it, but my clothes are definitely telling me.18 -
My biggest NSV is that I feel stronger and I’m loving the increased energy. 🥰15

I have finally hit my weight gain goal. I have gained 20 lbs since 2020!! I am now at a very healthy 140! From fighting to stay at 120 to this. I hope I can keep it on and stay the course. !! #HealthyWeightGain25

spirittrail wrote: »spirittrail wrote: »"In two weeks you'll FEEL IT......" Its been just over three weeks of regular vigorous exercise. WOW! I really feel the difference! I ran for the bus the other day and my heart didn't run out of my chest screaming in protest!! Heartbeat stayed strong and steady. I'm not out of breath after my workouts, my resting heart rate is slower and I sleep much better. Knowing my organs and the synchronicity of my body is working SO much better is all the motivation I need to go the FULL distance! 😊
"In four weeks you'll SEE it....." I have just completed five weeks of regular vigorous exercise. I actually got rid of my scale as I found it stressful. Not only that it was responsible for how I felt .... but it just added to floor clutter! I weigh myself for free once a month at the local community centre first thing in the morning before breakfast. So I rely on NSV's quite a bit. And the Centre has a beautiful accurate scale...which makes it fun!
After five weeks of regular exercise...which is now an easy habit...I DO SEE IT! 👀 I fit into a pair of SIZE 8 JEANS for the FIRST time! They've been in my closet for one year...I just couldn't get them on. I work out an average of 5x per week. My next target.....in 8 weeks my family and friends see it.
So far.....I am proving that this motivating quote is true. JUST HANG IN THERE!! YOU CAN DO IT!! 😊
IT DOESN'T GET EASIER....YOU GET STRONGER!! 😲
I love fitness motivational quotes...especially when I see them actually HAPPENING!
I do a variety of workouts. 20 minutes of aerobics with a 10 minute add on is one. Yesterday I found the 20 minutes to be especially tough. To the point I considered skipping the add on. But when I started my program this year I have never skipped it. Although that extra 10 minutes is HARD! I decided to just finish it. Bracing myself....preparing for the "worst"....the 10 minutes FLEW BY effortlessly 😳. It wasn't hard at ALL!
I'm STRONGER!! IT'S TRUE! I was actually shocked. How can something that had been so difficult...even 10 minutes...now suddenly be painless? It's these wins that I find the MOST motivating.
Stay consistent....take rests...but keep moving! Don't think about the time it takes....don't think too much about scale numbers. Concentrate on improving how you feel and improving overall body functioning. There's no prize for losing x number of pounds by a certain date. The BIG prize is improving your health and (for me)...climbing my motivational mountains ⛰️ 😀7 -
I did not give up.
After months not being able to run my weekly 5k due to knee injury I finally was able to walk it today and it feels great. I miss running but was stoked to hit the track again.
My elliptical died, the pool is shut down for construction, I cannot afford the gym, my knee does not like a lot of stairs or belly dancing yet, I had no outlet for cardio and I did not spiral out of control.
It took me 2 years of trying to be able to run 5 km, slowly, without stopping.22 -
I’ve been on a running hiatus for a while and when I did a couple of runs in November my running jacket wouldn’t fit over my hips. I had to hike it up and inhale to zip up.
Yesterday I felt the urge and went for a sunny 5K jog. My jacket fit without issue, no inhale needed and no pushing against my lower stomach when zipped. Yay!15 -
In two weeks you'll FEEL it
In four weeks you'll SEE it
In six weeks your spouse will SEE it (He noticed! He's so proud of me for my dedication.)16 -
NSV, after just 2.5 months removed from hip replacement surgery I had a step total for the week of almost 97.5k steps.
Also trained 7 days, albeit a rather light session on my Gazelle.16 -
Ran my first 5km park run in Canada over this past weekend.
I only started running for the first time in close to seven years at the end of December 2022, and have been jogging a few times per week slowly building up my cardiovascular strength.
I was thus quite happy with completing the 5km in just under 35 minutes. I realize this is not any kind of trail blazing speed, but I am proud of it after less than 6 weeks of training.
Goal is to try to complete park runs every second weekend and slowly build up that PB to sub-30 minutes.
Long term goal is half marathon by end of this year17 -
My underwear is getting near my rib cage, time to buy a smaller size! I had to buy smaller bras and was able to ditch my bra extender a couple of weeks ago. YAY!16
