Welcome!! When I was losing weight I had to look at it in ten pound increments. Looking at the whole picture would have defeated me. But I could do ten pounds at a time, till before I knew it, I'd lost 90 🙂 Maybe that would work for you too?8 -
Hey all, I have been more or less maintaining but actually sort of creeping up, week over week, so kept Easter reasonable and got myself in hand and am back on the losing train again - chug, chug and woohoo!
I am below my Jan 1st weight, not by much, but still grateful to be hanging in.
And we have a mid-May family trip to Disneyland I'm looking forward to, and this has helped me to get my walking program restarted! So feeling good.
Good, bad or ugly I log everyday and I echo @j29t - keep on keeping on!

The weather here was unseasonably warm for much of the past week. 2 days in a row with record high temps (88F and 89F). The trees and plants are getting confused. Most of my tulips and some of my phlox are blooming already, and my pear tree is getting really close. At least 2 weeks earlier than usual.
I have most of my yard and the flower beds cleaned up and ready to go. Today I'll be working on my veggie garden area.
Yesterday was a more comfortable day weather wise, only about 80F, so I sat outside almost all day visiting with my BFF. She said she came to visit so that she could get a retirement lesson from meOnly drank 2 glasses of wine and ate only healthy snacks so it was a winning day over all.
It was a good week. Was only down 2/10ths of a pound but considering that it was Easter week and that we ate out twice while the grandsons were staying over I'll take it as a win. 8/10th's of a pound to go until I reach 70 lbs lost. Fingers crossed that it happens over the coming week.

I wanted to say hi to everyone, and I am still here too. Not weighing because of some bad food choices lately but have been logging everything in, good or bad. Just haven't stepped on the scale this week, but I still feel my clothes are getting looser. This time I am not just giving up and going back to old ways. If I fail at one meal, I start eating better the very next meal. I especially wanted to welcome @slpannelli. I'm at the beginning of this journey and have only been here about a month and a half. You will find a lot of help here, so ask questions, read the posts, and they will encourage you. All these people at or close to their goal weights have already gone through the struggle we are facing right now, so they understand our situations. I wish you well in your journey. I've lost 19 pounds so far, in spite of having one too many cheat meals, but I have found that if I log the bad meals and see just how awful they are for me, I tend to not want to do that as much. Too much salt, carbs, and fats!6

Had a family birthday dinner yesterday. Cooked a prime rib in the oven for the first time. It was delicious.
We ate outside on the patio for the first time this year. That was enjoyable, even though it was a little windy. The yard is greening up. That "should" inspire me to do some yard work. We shall see.
We got my wife to join us outside, as well. That's a plus, as she rarely gets out of the house for anything besides her medical appointments. Her condition is stable, but her joint pain is constant. Pool therapy for her starts today. Fingers crossed that the pool time will bring her some pain relief.
Good to see some new participants on this thread. As others have noted, you've come to the right place for support and encouragement. I tell people that the community is the best aspect of MFP.9 -
@alteredsteve175 Hope the pool therapy helps. We typically do homemade prime rib dpfor Xmas dinner. Easy to prep and always comes out tasty.

@alteredsteve175 and @karlschaeffer I also make prime rib, when I get a good sale price. It's easier than what people think. I do the reverse sear method. Low oven till desired doneness, then let sit for at least 30 minutes, then a 500 degree oven for 5-8 minutes to sear, then serve.1

Y'all have inspired me to cook some prime rib! Or at least a roast of some kind 😉 Maybe next weekend. I have some family-size beef in the freezer, but probably not Prime rib lol.
@swimmom_1 - Mary, I imagine the reverse sear would work on other cuts too? Sounds intriguing (and tasty 😋).1 -

@BCLadybug888 My local chain store has a sale on it at least around Easter @ $5.99/lb with a $25 purchase(of other items) so I usually buy a few. So much cheaper than going out to eat for it. Googled how to cook prime rib and one of them was the reverse sear, which the butcher recommended to me. Some say the high heat first and then low. But this girl said you get a grey edge doing it that way. She tried a bunch of different ways. And this turned out the best.

I've always been so intimidated about cooking prime rib and ruining something that was so expensive. But one of our local grocery stores puts prime rib on sale for an excellent price about once per year and and after some encouragement from friends, I bought one. And cooked it. And it was easy and amazing!
My daughter's boyfriend comes from a ranching family and they gave me a cooler full of beef last time she visited. It included a brisket. All I know about brisket is from "Big Bang Theory" haha. But I googled some recipes and cooked it up and it was fantastic.

I cook brisket quite often as it is a family favorite. My mom had a recipe that I use
The brisket is marinated in spices and barbecue sauce and then wrapped in heavy aluminum foil, then refrigerated overnight. The next day it is cooked slowly in the oven for several hours.
My mom used to cook prime rib occasionally, but not often. I haven't tried it because it is so expensive, but after reading everyone's comments here, I may try it.

We got back from Las Vegas late Saturday night. Counting travel days we were gone for 8 days. I did not weigh when I got back because I was definitely retaining water from the flight, and probably a lot of extra salt and carbs. I ate above maintenance for the week, and that's after increasing my activity level from "not very active" to "active" for most days. I was over my maintenance
by approximately 3000 for the week. I ate so many foods I wouldn't normally eat including desserts and bread most days. I only eat those at home on special occasions. But we walked a lot!! My husband found an old fitness watch that he purchased many years ago for $8. I don't know how accurate it is, but there were several days that we walked over 20,000 steps. I think that would actually qualify as very active, but I put MFP at active because I didn't know the accuracy of the watch and I would rather be conservative on my estimate. I also guessed at calorie counts on my food but logged everything I ate the best I could. I will weigh next weekend, after the water retention has time to leave my body. My ankles are looking less swollen today already. Air flights always make me retain water. If my logging was anywhere near accurate I'm hoping to only be up about a pound from the trip, which I consider a win.
By the way, if you go to Vegas, go see a dinner theater show called "Marriage Can Be Murder". It is so funny.5 -
@Pdc654 Sounds like a fun time! And only a pound! Great discipline! Wife and I back from Hawaii. Def put on more than a pound! And didn’t even worry about steps. Now back on the straight and narrow. Hope everyone else is doing well.3

@karlschaeffer We love Hawaii!! Our favorite place to vacation. In 2015 my husband started fulfilling a bucket list item of his to bike all 4 of the major Hawaiian Islands. In 2015, he biked Kauai, in 2017, Oahu, in 2019, Maui. Then covid hit. Finally in Oct 2022, he fulfilled his dream, by biking the Big Island of Hawaii.

First weigh-in today since before our Las Vegas trip. I was totally surprised. I weighed 126.0 lbs! Before our trip, I weighed 127.4. I had been stuck at 127.4-128 range for 5 weeks so this drop of 1.4 lbs was unexpected.
Although it doesn't seem logical to me, I have a couple of theories:
1. The diet break coupled with the huge increase in activity shook my body up and it created an extra metabolic burn. I was probably eating twice my normal calories during that week, but walking over 20,000 steps a day.
2. It was just time for a whoosh. I had been at the same weight for over a month and it finally went.
Although, this is just a single weigh-in, and I certainly want to make sure this wasn't a fluke, at 126 lbs, I am now at a 22 BMI. Definitely in my maintenance range. I would like to drop another pound or 2 before I start increasing my calories. I know that with an increase in calories comes an increase in water weight, plus I am still storing some extra fat in my belly. I have a goal of being able to comfortably wear my size 6 jeans that I recently purchased. I can zip and button them pretty easily now, but don't think I could wear them all day long with total comfort. When I can do that, I will declare myself in maintenance.3 -
Greetings, everyone. I've been away but stayed mentally plugged in to MFP by habit now after almost 8 months of daily food logging. It's a gorgeous spring day here in the Pacific Northwest and I am finally through a bad patch: January went into aFib, February cardioversion to fix it, April gallbladder surgery plus hospitalization for post-op complications from blood thinners for the Afib...whew!
But...even though I stalled out at 180 for what felt like forever when I had to cut back on all activity for so many weeks, I'm back! Saw my surgeon yesterday and have been given the green light to resume pilates and weight work in two weeks, so just walking for now.
I've adjusted my diet to a very low fat version of low carb, which was interesting. I adopted my S-S-S-S plan: any combination of soup, skyr, salad, and smoothie. About those smoothies: while I love the convenience of protein-in-a-glass, and I have found a high-quality one with some science behind it (resistant starch fiber blend, etc) I worried a bit about this as a meal replacement, kind of questioning how it fit with my initial commitment to only make changes I was willing to live with forever.
So, now, onward to meal prepping! I got off to a good start last September when I found a local fresh meal delivery service targeted to athletes here in Portland. It retrained my eye, brain, and tastebuds to what a lunch looks like that has 4 ounces of protein, low carb veggies, etc along with flavors that were new to me. For me, it was money well spent.
I also just decided it was time for me to explore Instagramand wow! there's a lot of people meal prepping! So I am, at age 69, embracing meal prepping as a way of translating my intention + MFP meal planning into a refrigerator full of pre-decided good choices: daily soup, salad, entre + veggie, and all prettily lined up in mason jars and glass dishes, So excited!
Anyhoo, I weighed 175 yesterday, only 25 pounds from a healthy BMI and down 50 from last summer.8 -
Wow @momzilla11 ! You have had a hard first 4 months of 2023. Glad you're getting back to normal and starting to get back in the groove! Kudos to you for doing so!0
