Having to have someone towed...
Options
I rent at a large complex where everyone who lives here knows fully that every spot is accounted for and taken, there is a wait list for parking stalls... there is visitor parking on the street, but many are too lazy to park there and I guess take the chance, well someone parked a rental stall in my spot today and has been there for the past 6 hours and not moved, so I finally had to call the tow company, I hate doing that!!
But I have a family with small children and a work van with supplies in it that I can't chance leaving it on the street to park over night just to be "forgiving" ugh. Anyone else get this dirty guilty feeling having someone towed/ticketed?

Nope. I'm an a**hole and have no problem towing someone who is inconsiderate.0

I agree with Brewingaz. 6 hours?! that is more than generous. I'd call after the first 30 mins. Don't feel bad for someone who is ignorant OP0 -

This. I would have called them much sooner.0 -
Not at all. At our old apartments we had a guy who would constantly park in our spot.
We had him towed like six times before he seemed to get the message0 -
I would have called after 10 minutes.0

I agree with the others, you were more than generous! I would have waited a few min to see if perhaps they were parked there for a short time, (I do that myself, parking where I know I shouldnt just for a few minutes, lol). But when it became apparent it wasnt a 5 minute park, I would have called the tow company as well.0
-
One hour is my limit. And I place a large sticker on the driver's side of the front windshield, encouraging them to never park there again...even if it's been 10 minutes.0
-
It's your spot, it's your right.
We don't have assigned spots at our building, but there is an a**hole with a motorcycle that has actually taken up a full-sized parking space for the past FOUR MONTHS without ever moving. It really pissed me off when I still had a car.0 -

doormat
But I have respect for anyone who is NOT a doormat, and I am learning.
Honestly, I would have called the bldg manager to have them towed.
Thank God there is plenty of parking in my complex.:flowerforyou:0 -
I have had more than a few people towed. It's fun to sit outside with a beer and watch it all go down. It's especially fun if you're enjoying a cold one when the offenders come out and realize their car is gone.
Then you toast them and say "TOWED!!"
It makes it all worth it.

If it was clearly labelled/posted, its not your fault at all. I wouldn't park somewhere that clearly said not to.
That being said, leangains has worked wonders on your upper body. Good lord.0 -
I wouldn't do it.. I am fairly passive though, I might look around and try to see where they are though..0

LOL All quite awesome responses, I too think I'm a "door mat" as mentioned earlier, I just feel like I could allow it for a while and then when it starts to get dark I start tapping my foot on it. As for the leangains, have you ever read up on his site? I was always eating the typical 6 smalls per day and it was starting to drive me insane because I had so much food prep for the kids going on as well. Once I learned about leangains not only did I start seeing changes in my abs but my strength got better too, I'm hardcore into the deadlifts and chins now. They work wonders, my two faves. For anyone who hasn't read up on intermittent fasting, it really is freeing. Fast 5, Eat Stop Eat, Lean Gains, Warrior diet. No mo bro science for me.
It also got easier to start eating cyclically (low carb, high carb for certain training days) because it retrained my hunger scale and taught me how to intuitively eat more.

I heard about it after reading a log of a user on another site (google: defixon leangains).
For a month or two I did basically 1-2 large meals then 16hr fast as well as well as a 2-day split workout. It seemed to work well.
I've changed my routine to a 5 day, and added/swapped exercises usually every month, when I feel I'm starting to slow down.
I did the warrior diet last year also, basically every meal of the day at once.
Interesting stuff. I've just never met a girl who's knowledgeable, or really into something other then cardio or 'toning'...
I should probably get back into it, or try to be a little more serious about it til Christmas.0 -
I've done it and did not feel bad. I was very pregnant, it was sleeting that night and I had to walk quite a distance to get to my unit. When I spoke to management the next day, I found that the jerks didn't even notice until the next morning, which meant they fully intended to pull an overnighter in MY spot. No, I did not feel bad at all.0

I've caused a few cars to be towed from my parking spot. I have to contact the office though and they come put a sticker on the vehicle and then call the towing company. I've put so many home made signs on vehicles that park in my spot to give people a chance to move their vehicle first. Yes, I've felt bad about getting someone towed especially since I don't use my parking spot anyway because I don't have a car. The way I see though is that spot is assigned to my apartment and I pay the rent on that apartment so if I don't want someone parking in my spot then they can't park there. Fortunately it's been a good while since I've had to leave a notice or have a car towed.0

While yea its TRUE that you payed for the spot, and you can technically leave it vacant as much as you want, if I were you, I would feel like a ****head for having someone towed for using a spot you don't use.
If you had company that needed it, that would be one thing. But just because it's "YOURS" is pretty selfish.0 -

Not real big on grace/mercy there, are you?0 -
I did, once. I paid for a covered spot in my apartment complex. (I melt in the rain.) Someone was parked in it when I came home. It was raining, too. I was pissed. So I called the leasing office, and they sent for a tow. My alternative was risk parking in another covered spot...no way was I going to do that. Or park in an uncovered spot. But I paid a monthly fee for this covered spot. I felt no guilt towing this rude person.0

Well, my daughter does come over on occasion and I don't want to have to go knocking on doors to find out who's parked in my spot and have them move so she can park. Besides that, there are signs on the complex property that mention assigned parking and that unauthorized vehicles will be towed. And again, I've always put notices on each vehicle stating it is parked in an assigned spot and will be towed. On top of that, every resident knows (if they've read their rental contract) that spots are assigned and it's up to the residents to make sure any guests are aware of the rules and possibility of getting towed. Furthermore, you're not me and I don't feel like a ****head.0 -
If it was just me, I'd probably not care if it was that way for a night, I'd figure someone is up seeing family or etc.
If I had kids and etc I would care as it makes things harder to deal/work with.0 -

For someone who seems to be a stickler for rules (seeing as how you thoroughly understand your leasing rules), I would have figured you'd also follow the MFP rules, which say you cannot have religious text in your signature line...0 -
I would have called the tow company from my car, and waited until the car was gone, and then parked in my spot.0

Yea, but in those particular cases, you didn't have someone. Yes, you are within your RIGHT to have them towed... that doesn't mean you are a good person if you do it.
Whats a good analogy: ok, heres one. Someone says a snarky comment about you in real life. You are within your rights to reply with an equally snarky, Eye for an Eye type response, right?
But what would be the right thing to do, just let it go, or sink to her level? Personally, I think its my duty to be the better person. If more people did that in life, this world would be a lot better place.
See the point? You had no use for that spot. NONE. You had someone's car towed just because you could. I'm just saying, maybe you don't feel bad about it, but I guess my moral compass is a little more accurate than yours.
Which is weird, since you have the religious signature, and your profile is covered in religious quotes. Hmmmm I wonder what that says.0 -
To the ones who reported me because of my signature, how is it now? Does it break any rules? As for the others who have a problem with what I've done in the past, will I'll just say this. The only One I have to answer to is God. And Avalonis, essentially what my profile quotes says is I'm a sinner saved by Grace and I'm not perfect.0

I never reported... I'm not a whiner no matter how offensive something is. But it technically breaks the rules (No religious stuff in forums or signatures)
However you are correct, the only one you have to ultimately answer to is your God (assuming you are correct and thats where we all go in the end). I'm just saying the world could be a better place if everyone thought maybe answering to other people because its the right thing to do mattered.0 -
I don't have this problem @ my new complex...but @ my old apt complex there were like 2 visitor spots and all the rest was assigned parking. My downstairs neighbors were total d-bags & had their friends park in my spot all the time for hours on end; which forced me to park on the street. Why on the street...because my other surrounding neighbors were too lazy to park in their spots & took the visitors' spots. I never had them towed but one time they were out there when I pulled up & I sat there for a couple of minutes blocking in their cars...they moved & I didn't have the problem as often. Why not have them towed you ask? Because that apt complex, in their infinite wisdom, did not tow people...they booted them! So you'd STILL be deprived of your parking space AND have a pissed off neighbor.0

Oye...what these innocent topics will turn into...
By the way, yes you were right to have them towed. They were being a Boob.0
