LESS Alcohol ~ AUGUST 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

@xbowhunter you have a great attitude thus far. Better sleep and energy are definitely benefits of LA.
I typically post the next morning for the previous night (not a day drinker). Had wine last night after a busy start to the week but didn’t measure the new rose. Saved the other half for the weekend.
Having a barbecue tomorrow evening with adult kids and elderly mom so I bought plenty of NA cold options (Trader Joes has some tasty low cal organic lemonades and sparkling water options). Also have one bottle of white wine available for my mom. In the past I would make sure we had several bottles on hand and I would dig in. Family ya know can do that to us. Those days are behind me as I practice LA and stay mindful and active.

@sarah7591 @Womona ....Just a comment on plastic cups for wine on the dockside...I figured that was because patrons in that arena were a bit more relaxed and exuberant, and *kitten* happens when you're cracking crabs. I would smuggle in a well wrapped wine glass and immediately pour my beverage into MY glass. The servers never seemed to notice.
Broken plastic injures fewer patrons than broken glass, so I see the restaurant's POV.4 -
MFP is not helping my quest for tracking "less" calories. My dietary goals are focused on more potassium [heart], more dairy [76 y/o bones], and plenty of protein. After entering my veggies, leafy green stuff, and at least 60 grams of protein...MFP won't accept my daily entry because I'm too far under my 1200 calorie goal. And, no, I'm well into the "good " zone with all those pesky things like vitamin C and iron...Guess I should ignore the MFP Nanny and just watch my scale go down. When 20 pounds disappears, it won't matter anyway.
Day 3 with no 🍷 and not pretending it's a happy thing. It's a healthy thing.

HAPPY FRIDAY LESS alcohol peeps
August, well, in like a lion for sure for me.
Made reservations last night to attend a Maui luau when we are on vacation in 2.5 weeks. I was all good until she mentioned all inclusive, meaning as she put it TOP SHELF booze is free. Oh no, my husband heard that on my speaker phone and I can already see the scenario unfolding in my head. UGH
Luving everyone's goals for August. KEEP STRONG7 -
Hi All! Robyn here in VA Beach. I am drinking less for overall health and weight loss. I usually post the next morning. My LA goals for August are no more than 4 drinks (5 max) in a week, no more than 2 in a day, and 16 AF days.
Tue 8/1: AF
Wed 8/2: Drinks (2)
Thu 8/3: Drinks (2) - The goal originally was one drink, since I had a beer on Monday (7/31). What actually went down ... Two drinks instead of the one but still consider it a win since this was date night and not only did we go out for dinner, but also hung out at a local bar/music venue where a favorite band was playin. I had a glass of wine with dinner, then an IPA later at the bar. The win of the day: I had a Virgin Cape Cod (club soda & cranberry) after the beer. The plan now is AF though the weekend. I'm on my own for the weekend. DH is heading out for an annual "mancation" weekend in the NC mountains with our oldest son and friends.

@RockinRobyn672 Mancation Good on ya for keeping it to 2 with multiple destinations on a date night. I'd put that in the "W" column.
@womona YAAAS on the plastic cups. I've gotten snobby in my old age or something, but I enjoy is so much less in plastic, it's almost not worth the calories to me. So happy you got the perfect sail day. August is the one month my club stops sailing. No wind and HOT. We do race all the way through winter, though, and it can be blustery but it can also be nice.
@xbowhunter Happy anniversary and congrats on 34 years!
@MissMay Lol at the all inclusive dinner. At least it isn't the whole 2.5 weeks! I couldn't tell if your dismay was DH or self oriented (I suspect DH). I have long since resigned myself to the fact that all-you-can-eats/drinks are never "a good deal" for me. Ever. So why try to "get my money's worth"? It won't happen so I let it go and enjoy being the size I am.
AF M-Th so far this week. After toying with the idea of adding Sunday's to weeknight abstinence, but never actually deciding to do it, I have decided to give it a go in August since I won't be shaking up margaritas for DH while we have the smoker going. [ETA DH is doing AF August, which is my impetus]
Aug goal:
Su-Th AF
F&Sa half strength drinks (spritz's, frescas, and LA wine) [not tempting to DH]

Goals for August!Self-care and positive vibes ~ One day at a time
Zig-zag calorie count - Daily Average 1400
Success = No more than two glasses of wine per night.
Current Streak - AF = 0~
So July was a bust.... finished the month with my "glamping" trip which was fun, but actually turned into "camping" as we were without power and water for almost 24 hours after a bad storm came through.
Struggling in the first few days of August. All I want to do is eat and drink...not a good combination, especially with my desired goals.
I'm somewhat of an emotional wreck while processing a lot of information.

The Month recap to stay accountable8/1 ~ 🍷🍷 Husband mad at me because I said that he wasn't taking care of health.
8/2 ~ 🍷🍷Husband went to visit his daughter and mother so I had the evening to myself. I got dinner from Portillo's, got chocolate cake (and I really don't like cake). Watched the Bachelorette, ate my Italian sausage and only had two bites of the cake and threw the rest away.
8/3 ~ 🍷🍷🍷 Had good intentions. Was going to make salmon and a salad, try for 2 glasses of wine and relax. Instead, had a craving for Popeyes, didn't really feel like cooking, so I had Popeyes and 3 glasses of wine. It's kind of ironic that I was talking about my husband and now I'm going down that slippery slope.....

@forestdweller1 ~ can I borrow your ladder?🙂
@rockinrobyn672 ~ Welcome back and so sorry for the loss of your Mother-in-law.
@Womona ~ Yes, always a glass! I hope you enjoy your visit with your DS1🙂
@xbowhunter ~ Good Luck on your journey. Sounds like you've got the focus!6 -
4 AF and 0 A - roobios tea doing the job today5

@itladyee ...am currently stuck near top of ladder, but you are welcome to my climbing gear .... 🧗♂️
Oven roasted veggies [zuchinni-onion-tomato-mini sweet peppers] and fish with AF beer.
@MissMay ...went on a memorable cruise with all 3 daughters and now-ex drunk SIL...wine, beer, mixed drinks all included. Four of us kept to one drink a night, and one of us kept to drink all night. He's a happy drunk, hanging off the balcony, singing to the fishes at midnight.
Hoping only the luau is "all-inclusive"3 -
Hello LA friends! I am off to a good start this month, 2 AF/3 days and I had less than usual for last night's A night. I feel like I have broken the habit of daily drinking, so I'm focusing now on fewer drinks on the days I drink, 3 or less is my goal.6

AF since August 1st/ GOAL 1 or less per day and no more than 3 per week this month..stocked up on mint tea and matcha and sparkling water!7

5 AF and 0 A - having some ice cream tonight with the calories I've saved from 5 days in a row with no alcohol 🍦🍨🍧7

Sat 8/5: Drinks (3) - I have not been sticking to plan at all. DH is away for the weekend, and I didn't do anything worthwhile except for a hard workout. It was a beautiful day and I didn't step a foot outside. I haven't stuck to my AF plan this weekend. The bottle of wine was in the house and I drank it over the past couple of nights. Along with that came the late night snacking. The plan now is AF until Thursday. The up side is that it's still early August and it's not too late to get on track and meet goals.

BTW - Thanks to @itladyee and @Michieb125 and anyone I've missed for your condolences and encouragement. It means a lot to me. It was hard to lose my MIL. I was very close to her. She was the last parent and that feels very strange. June and July have been a couple of hard months for that and other reasons. I've missed this group and I'm glad (and need) to be back.7

Catching up on Sunday morning…
@tmbg1 I want what you’re having! Way to go.
@RockinRobyn672 - about not sticking to plan….I didn’t either!
The last few days I planned for some wine (but not back to back days) so it’s time to reset! Had a birthday celebration and family barbecue for my elderly mother with my very own pre night prep solo party, then my post clean up night and house back to myself solo party (also had overnight guests Friday). Oh vey! I did feature only NA lemonades and flavored sparkling waters for my adult kids who are doing LA so I did join in that during their visit. Just tossed the remainder of a bottle left in the refrigerator so there is no wine in the house again. Gearing up for some AF days until Thursday.

Had 2 beers yesterday. This morning woke up with a pounding headache. I'm finding alcohol is no longer worth it! Feeling better now after rehydration...
Cheers!8 -
Did well this week. 2.5 lbs down at Weight Watchers. It's because I am not buying wine. And it helps not being on vacation.
I can get another 1-1.5 lbs weight off me by next weekend if I keep moving in the right direction.

Joining this! Last month I started counting calories again and realized it’s my drinking that’s inhibiting weight loss. I didn’t realize how many drinks I’ve gotten use to over this past year(s). In the past (pre-COVID) I rarely drank, only during social gatherings and it was usually just 1 drink, which I didn’t even always finish. Now I would easily have 5-6 drinks a week (low side) and then some more on the weekends if we are out or lounging at home. I’m aiming to reduce, maybe just 1- 2 drinks on the weekend.7

I was drinking around 300 to 500 calories per day. I put on 15lbs in one year and the spark has been ignited to clean-up my health...
My goal is to loose 30lbs to get back to my normal weight. range.
I feel 100% better today and wish I would have started earlier...
Welcome! It’s amazing how weight sneaks up on us when we are drinking!2
