I have been Raw Vegan since 8/1/23 due to a detox but really loving this lifestyle and the way I am feeling.

Anyone else raw vegan?

I had some hardcore ethical vegan friends who went raw one summer but did not find it sustainable once the colder weather came.

Yes I can see that happening. I know I will go back to eat some non raw foods. But I plan on incorporating this eating more often throughout the week. But I am happy as vegan.

I hope you've delved deeply enough into this to realize that there are various nutrients that require a little more attention as a vegan. People always mention protein, but that's quite manageable. B-12 always has to be supplemented. (Many vegans use nutritional yeast for B-12, but the B-12 in nooch is added (i.e. a supplement), not inherent in the yeast.)

There are other considerations, too. In case you haven't run across it, this is a really good evidence-based nutrition site for vegans, with content written by registered dietitians who themselves are vegan:

    https://veganhealth.org/

They have all the details. Vegan nutrition isn't overwhelming difficult, but - despite what some advocacy sites/sources say - it's not just "eat lots of plants and everything will be fine, because plants are just that good".

I'd also point out that in some foods, some of the nutrients are more bioavailable when cooked vs. raw, so learning about that could also be useful. (I don't have a site for that, though.)

Truth in advertising: I'm not vegan. I've been vegetarian for 49+ years, and eat a lot of plant foods, so I need to be aware of some of these considerations, too. I have no dispute with veganism, it's a valid eating style; it just doesn't happen to be right for me. I do have a dispute with some of the vegan/vegetarian advocacy sites that push unscientific myths and misrepresent reality to "convert" people.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate your support. Yes, I am aware of the deficiencies and have been in contact with my doctor about this. I have done a lot of reading and research but it is always great to hear others knowledge.

Because I am more strict about this diet right now due to a cleanse, I know when I am finished I will slowly start incorporating cooked foods here and there. I'm not sure where I stand on meat and eggs at this time, probably will continue leaving them out. I have never done well with diary and ate very minimal amounts in the past, I plan on continuing to omit. I can see myself leaning more a towards vegetarian lifestyle. I just feel so much better as a plant based eater. I want off my medications and want to be in much better shape.

What were you trying to detox from and did your Dr. prescribe this cleanse, curious?

    Hi!

I was just trying to clean out my system. It was a full body cleanse and each supplement targeted a different organ/part of your body. I do feel cleaner and healthier.

My doctor did not prescribe it. I know I know I should have talked to her about it. I’ll be seeing her at the end of the month which I can’t wait for because I know I have made improvements!

It’s the dherbs full body cleanse
And the dherbs weight release cleanse.

I did both back to back. You can google and learn about it if you would like. :)

I am vegan, lots of raw but not all Raw. I found it works better for me to have a mix. I eat both raw and steamed vegetables, cook my beans, legumes and grains. I do smoothies, but they are using Green Vibrance, plant protein, chia, cacao and carob
I eat fruit whole, make spiralized zucchini raw, all kinds of veggies and leafy greens raw. I use raw wheatgrass. We get broccoli and other microgreens, sprouts and sprouted lentils, chick peas, mung beans and peas
I have no defficiencies and my doctors a said to keep doing what I'm doing. I supplement with B 12, D and K , vegn liquid multi algae oil.
I love the raw and living foods, itia my lifestyle.

    Hi VegjoyP!

I love reading your post. Everything you eat is what I eat! I just introduced non raw back into my diet yesterday. I baked a bunch of veggies. It was sooo delicious but I did feel different eating it vs eating raw. I felt heavy and bloated. Today I had some homemade veggie soup I made and for dinner I had a salad. I’m trying to figure out ways to make salad dressings that are oil free and either fat free or reduced fat. That’s been a challenge for me.

You would need some fats to metabolize the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) in the veggies. It's fine to get those fats from something like seeds, nuts, or avocados with the salad, though. Personally, I usually just use some kind of good vinegar - different types have different flavor profiles - and possibly season the vinegar, as a dressing. Then I add healthy fats to the salad via seeds or nuts, which also gives a nice crunch.

Given your dietary interests, you may prefer raw vinegar (live probiotics). I can usually find red wine vinegar as well as apple cider vinegar in raw, unpasteurized versions, and occasionally others.

When I say "different types of vinegar", I mean rice vinegar, red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc. - not flavored types. I prefer to add flavorings myself, usually garlic and/or herbs. It's easy to grow some types of herbs in pots, even indoors - fresh herbs are nice.

I just googled as you recommended, and guess what I found? Detox diets (and cleanses) are total and absolute BS 😬. A myth. A ruse. A complete waste of money. Sorry to tell you. Why didn’t you google about Detox Diets before you spent your money??

That being said, if you just said you dieted to get rid of bloat and feeling sluggish, to jump start weight loss, to fit into your clothes, then that’s fantastic. And free.

Yep. The main people who's bodies need help detoxing are on kidney dialysis. And it's the dialysis doing the detoxing. Not herbs and supplements.

Well this isn’t “real” / scientifically sound but if you are feeling good, maybe no harm. I would be careful about buying things that make promises like “targets a single organ” — herbal type supplements are not tested by the FDA so you never know what drug interactions you are walking into, side effects, etc.

In 2008, dHerbs was cited by the FDA for false advertising and mislabeling. They were cited again in 2015 for health fraud.

If it works for you good for you however detox is handled by liver and kidneys and not a certain diet or supplements. Vegan diet especially for men can leave a lot to be desired health wise.

If you're looking for some meal ideas, I recommend Fully Raw Kristina on You Tube. Also, Plantiful Kiki on You Tube recently started eating raw vegan.

I used to work for a supplements company and anything we could legally say had to be so vague as to be meaningless. For starters, we couldn't make claims about health conditions/diseases. We had lawyers review our labels.

Back in 2015, dherbs was illegally making claims:

    https://www.fdanews.com/ext/resources/files/12-15/12-30-15-Dherbs-Warning-Letter.pdf?1520761041

"...we have determined that your website and other product labeling promote your products for
conditions that would cause the products to be drugs under section 201(g)(1)(B) of the Act [21 U.S.C. § 321(g)(1)(B)]. The therapeutic claims on your websites and other product labeling establish that the products are drugs because they are intended for use in the cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease."

    https://www.dherbs.com/conditions/
They're lucky the FDA is underfunded, because that page is blatantly illegal.

    https://www.dherbs.com/featured/dherbs-full-body-cleanse/

I'm sure "reboot your system" is fine because it is meaningless.

My company could have made this page. We had copywriters write the "reviews" and hired people to film the "testimonials."
