I can’t believe it works!

So I’ve been consistently logging for over a week now, and I can’t believe it works! I’m down 6lbs so far. I’ve tried a lot of restrictive dieting in the past, for example extended juice fasts to lose weight since nothing else seemed to work. It’s nice to know that I can still enjoy the foods I like and lose weight as long as I do a bit of portion control!

Yes, it works. It worked for me all through losing from class 1 obese to a healthy weight, even though aging (59-60 then), menopausal, hypothyroid, no major added exercise, eating most of the same foods as during my 30 previous years of overweight/obesity. It's worked for 7+ years maintaining a healthy weight since.
Caveat: That big drop up front is pretty common. Part (not all) of it is water weight. It's possible you may see a pseudo-stall soon as water retention re-balances. That's totally normal, wait it out, scale loss will pick up again at the right calorie intake. After that, loss may be a bit slower, and it will be uneven day to day or week to week, but on average over many weeks, the right calorie intake will result in scale drops.
Hang in there, get it: You can. The results - the quality of life improvement - sooooo worth it!20 -

Yes it works for Weight loss. But that's not the best part. The best part is that if you work it, learn to eat what you like, as well as what your body needs, all in proper portions, you never have to lose it again. This can absolutely be the last time you ever have to "start over". You may have to cut back to lose a few-- after the holidays? But only a few.

The biggest benefit to me in logging food was it forcing me to see how many calories each food contains. I found that some food I liked just wasn't worth the calories. I wanted to "spend" my calories on something I liked better. I still eat some "junk" food (or candy), but only the kinds I really enjoy (keeping in mind total calories). I ask myself: What do I have to give up to have room in the calorie budget for the food that's tempting me now?16

It really works! I struggled to drop under 170 pounds for a year trying Ayurveda, BistroMD, intermittent fasting, 10,000 steps a day, working out at the gym religiously every morning, etc. and no weight loss. My doctor suggested I stop drinking all together, but that isn't realistic, however I have minimized the drinking to limit calories. I am at 166 this morning after only following this logging on MyFitnessPal for 4 days! I can't start to explain how uplifting this has been for my motivation and drive to get to my goal.5

Congratulations and keep it up it absolutely works, I've dropped 50+ pounds in just over 3 months, ( I do have a lot of weight to lose) but I have never felt in such control of my weight loss. I am learning to "spend" my calories wisely and as a family, we are eating better choices and more controlled portions. Just having the visual log of what I am eating with no silly gimmicks to try to calculate has really helped.5

I usually log all week and not on the weekends but I do eat pretty much the same things. It has helps me because I thought I was eating enough and I wasn't. And it helps you take a hard look at where your calories are coming from. So happy that it helps you, just keep going even if you have an off day....good luck!0

Yes it does! Isn't it exciting?!! I was a total skeptic when I first started MFP. My trainer swore by it, but I had always used Atkins and then gained everything back when I started eating carbs again. So when she said I could eat anything as long as I logged it and stayed in budget, I just did it to humor her. After all, no point in paying someone for their expertise if you aren't going to follow their advice. Then lo and behold, the scale started dropping, and I was hooked!! I've lost over 30lbs and kept it off for two years so far. I still check-in here every day and weigh myself every morning. I have a Maintenance Range I try to keep. If I get above that, I go back on deficit until I'm back down. I count calories on a weekly basis now instead of daily like I did when I was losing. MFP really does work if you follow it. I'm so excited for you to be on this journey. You are going to be SO glad you did!! Just hang in there and trust the process. Bodies are weird, so you'll have some ups and downs, but you'll get there. Hanging out on the forums can really help, so I encourage you to do that, too. Good luck!!7

Yes, MFP is a wonderful tool. No matter your weight or age, MFP can help you reach your goals. I'm 72 years old and living proof that MFP works. I started using MFP 15 years ago, and that first two years, lost 75 pounds just limiting calories. Then I stopped using MFP and within a few years, had gained most of it back. Started back 2 years ago and have lost 40 pounds. Slow and steady. This time around, though, I had to put my focus on lower carb maintenance, due to pre-diabetes. IT WORKS !!! Brought my A1c down from 7.9 to 5.6 in 6 months. Also dropped 15 pounds in that time. Doctor was amazed. Like many others, when I first started using MFP, I laughed at the "if every day were like today" predictions, then cried true tears of joy when those predictions came true. And like many others have said, logging teaches me values for foods, which helps me make better choices. Logging is like "putting it in writing" which also helps keep me honest. It's a thing in my family -- if anyone wants to know a food value, they just say "Ask TJ, she'll know." Keep up the good work!! Glad you found MFP.3
