Once more into the fray

Hi. I'm Angela. I'm pushing 60 and am trying to lose significant weight for the third time in my life. The first time, I lost 50 lbs, by writing down my food and upping my exercise. The next two times, I lost ~50 lbs by using Weight Watchers. I hate the way they keep switching up the program, though, and after a ton of reading decided myfitnesspal sounded like a good alternative to try. My goal is to lose around 40 lbs. this time, to the high end of my healthy weight, and maintain it - calorie consciousness feels like something I might be able to maintain.

It can work, if it suits your style.

I joined MFP at 59, lost 50-some pounds in just under a year, and have maintained in a healthy weight range for 7+ years since (after around 30 years previously of overweight/obesity). Calorie counting helped me figure out personalized eating patterns I could live with long term, and the results (in improved quality of life) have been very much worth that effort.

I hope you have a good and successful experience, too!

So overall you’ve lost 150 lbs! Very impressive! It’s hard for me to lose weight but even harder to maintain my weight loss . The trick for me was not doing anything short-term to lose it that I couldn’t sustain long term to keep it off. Best wishes for you.
