Because that is at least three months away at the rate I'm losing, my new "mini-goal" is to weigh less than my older brother, who is a half-inch shorter than me and is currently over his ideal weight right now at 166 pounds. I am at 168 as of today, so 3 pounds to go, or 4 to be on the safe side. Since I started losing weight at 230 pounds, and have been as high as 238, I have felt so huge next to him for so long, that this will be fun and very motivating.
Mini-goals have really been an important part of my weight loss. They really help me stick to it, and keep me from being overwhelmed at how much I have to lose, and how much I still have to go to my final goal.
This is so insightful! I just realized that's what I've been doing. I honestly thought no way I'm going to lose THAT much by going slow like my Dr advised, but low and behold, just being mindful (of calories , carbs and daily activity) is working! Even through vacation, the holidays & leg surgery. The latter blew my mind , I just knew I'd pack on pounds but my appetite magically adjusted to my inactivity. Just now feeling like maybe I can do this 😊 Lost 7% of my body weight since August. I'm not so much about that big mountain I still have to climb, but looking down at the scale seeing how far I've come.9 -

My other mini goal is to get my 2023 step average up to 10502 as that would be exactly 1000 steps more than 2022. I’m at 10445 right now so that feels achievable.
And the numbers are in - average weight November was 88.26 kg and December came in at 88.01 kg so I’m happy with that. 30 dec is also exactly 2 kg less than 30 nov was, so I feel confident to continue to lose in 2024.
Steps will fall slightly short but land at a highly respectable average of 10467 daily in 2023.

I really like this thread and everyone who's contributing to it. First off, Happy New Year!
I'm in a mini maintenance period right now before we start our next challenge on January 17th for 10 weeks so my mini goal is to maintain my weightloss and physically stay ready for the next challenge so there was no indulging or treating myself in the new year but I wasn't interested in doing so. I still socialized and bought treats for everyone else but I didn't want any. This is coming from a person without a sweet tooth. I didn't even eat the chips and dip. I just stared at them for a minute and thought, all those chemicals masking real food. I'll just eat the real food.
One important thing our coach mentions is visualizing how you will look when you reach your goal. I'm visualizing this now for the next challenge. I have 5 pounds to go on paper but I know when we ramp up I'll probably lose another 10. I've lost 31 since starting in August. My mini goal going into the new year is this visualization and preparing my mind for this new number on the scale. I'm already wearing 4 to 5 sizes smaller clothes but it's something about being back to that number on the scale, the size I was 10 years ago. It's funny how we need to condition our mind as we condition our body. So my method of doing this was donating all the larger sizes in my closet and drawers because we're not going back to that and purchasing all new clothes in the size I am exactly (no extra space or give) and the size down because that's where we're going.
The train is leaving the station on the 17th, I've packed my bags and we're headed to our destination. I am so grateful for the team in 2023 who in 10 weeks helped me not only shed those 31 pounds but also all the limiting beliefs. I'm a much happier and resilient person today. I know what to do and I'm doing it both with their help and proven to myself I can do it on my own too. No more googling diets and exercise equipment, no wasted gym memberships, and no more hiding in oversized clothes. I am most grateful for the peace and calm surrounding my health and the like-minded people I've met this year. Happy New Year! May you all have health, peace, and happiness.8 -

I absolutely love everything you wrote in your comment, and agree completely with all of it! Kudos to you for all your progress, and the freedom and happiness it has clearly brought you
As for visualizing how you will look: this past summer I realized that I literally COULD NOT envision myself at a lower weight, and that this had been crippling my weight loss efforts for years. There are online tools where you can enter a weight, height, and body type to see what a person might look like -- but none of them looked like me at all, so this was not helpful to me.
I found this website that has photos of real people at various stages of weight loss/gain, and this is what did the trick for me! I found someone who actually looked quite similar to me, and this (first of all) helped me to finally see myself exactly as I was when I started losing weight. Then I played with the settings to find people at lower weights, and started to imagine what I might look like eventually. It took lots of browsing for this to settle into my brain, because I had become so disconnected from my own body!
This website has made a HUGE difference in my ability to visualize my future self, and I still use it from time to time to re-calibrate my perception of my own body (current and future). I will forever be grateful to all the people who put their photos out there on the internet to inspire others.
(This is probably NSFW as the photos are of people in various states of dress.)

Happy New Year everyone.
I have several mini goals (increase protein, exercise minimum 5/week, etc.) but on reflection I think my new mini goal is to stay focused and to have fun. Once it becomes a chore or boring, history tells me I’m at risk of walking away and I so don’t want that. So, I’m going to continue to dance as I get ready for work some days in and ‘enjoy the workout sweat’ because I’m seeing change and it makes me feel good. 😊4 -
Positive: Getting 4 workouts or activities this week
Negative: Get below 200 by 2/1 (currently @ 206.5)3 -
Glad to discover this community. My mini goal right now is to get back to the weight I was (240) after losing 20 lbs this past year while working with a dietician. I've crept up 4 lbs during the holidays, and I want to start out 2024 back at that baseline, working towards another 20 lbs weight loss.6

I set a Mini-Goal on January 1, 2023 to never exceed my high weight of that date in the year 2023. GOAL ACCOMPLISHED! I started 2024 with not needing to start a new weight loss push for the first time in my 86 years of age. I ended 2023 and started 2024 within 0.4 lbs of my goal, maintenance goal!10

My current mini-goal is indirectly related to my health - paying off debt I racked up over the past few years while in school. So while that's the goal, the intention that goes along with that is not losing focus on my health or falling back into unhealthy habits in the process. I'm hoping that staying consistent with my fitness and nutrition will give me the boost I need to tackle the debt efficiently. I'm in that sweet motivated honeymoon phase so I'm taking advantage of that and starting off strong!3
-
@earlybirdlady You can totally accomplish both. Paying off that debt will relieve any anxiety about it and you'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Keeping to a good budget will support your fitness and nutrition goals. Buying real food, meal prepping twice a week, shopping around for produce, and freezing stuff really helps.6

For me, i'm 50 and knees hurt, blood sugar A1C was high.. So I decided to do this again: working out daily + low carb / no sugar. Been a streak of 25 days (so just starting again) but getting great results!
I did this a year ago but fell off the wagon, time to run and chase that wagon so I can hitch a ride.

I would like to get to my last low weight- 105.9kg. Currently sitting at 107.2kg6

getting through 1/1/24 without cheating on me or my food and exercise plan. So far so good, ate the right amount of calories and did a good long walk this morning. Year is starting out ok. Tomorrow is another day. But I can conquer tomorrow as well. Fingers crossed.6

My current minigoal is upping my steps to at least 4,000 average a day, and adding in exercise at least once a week.7

My mini goal is part of a larger goal. I want to have a 250 pound bench press in December of 2024. In order to achieve this I have to hit 5 pound milestones every month. I am starting at an easily achievable weight for January, 190 pounds. I increase 5 pounds every month.
@earlybirdlady you certainly can be successful at this, good luck.5 -
I would like to ride my scooter again. Gotta get below 105kg4

I would like to lose 5kg by my next hairdressers appointment (its about 5 weeks away).5

Good one!! Thinking about what you are eating to nourish your baby is a great way to change your focus on where you're spending your calories. It worked great for me, but my "babies" are 35 and 29 now. Wondering if I can get back to that mindset anyway. Who is greasy sugary salt helping? And how much better will we feel if we eat like we are trying to build a great nutritional foundation for someone we love (including ourselves)??3 -
I got this flower overtop and I want to fit into it. It's about a size too small. It only came in two sizes (think, one size fits all), and the bigger size was too big.

Tracking and logging in my workouts. I had a medical boot on for the last 2 months and though I'm not officially cleared yet, I have been swimming and this has been fun.7

I think also, my mini-goal is to lose 5% of my weight.8

For the first time in months and months I have a good few clear months to concentrate on my health journey with no planned derailments! I know there will be some bumps but I've been so busy hosting ( we moved from UK to USA in 4 months and have had tons of people visit since we moved), I am looking forward to seeing what I can do until the next people arrive in May

Staying within my glucose range the majority (or all) of the day. Doing good, but not as well as prior to holiday season with all the get-togethers. But still keeping happy. Would like to continue to consistently drop farther into range by the end of the year.
Quick update - have managed to be much better with this. Even better, I managed to drop my A1C down over .5 points in two months, thus keeping me from being classified as Type 2. My mini goal is to continue dropping down, so I can get out of the pre-diabetic range all together. The bonus, is I'm losing weight as I go, and still eating healthy.8 -
My mini goal is to track my breakfast and lunch consistently for a whole month.7

My doctor is challenging me to weigh under 200 lbs by the time I see him in May. The appointment also happens to be just a few days before I leave for a vacation, and there is a dress that I would like to wear on the vacation.9
