Went to SIL's house tonight to watch Oppenheimer and have dinner. I stuck with seltzer and juice in a pretty glass. If I had indulged, I would have no idea what was going on with that very long, but very good movie.6 -
Ran errands this evening, which is often a trigger for me to "just stop by" the store and pick up wine. I often buy smallish amounts (enough for 1 or 2 days), because I know that if it's in the house I'll drink it. So often when I'm running errands in the evening, it will cause me to crave wine.
Small victory, but feels good!

My goal for January is to have a “socially “ damp one! Shooting for 5 dry days out of 7. I definitely have definitely noticed that I am sleeping better already. The one day that I did drink, I woke up more frequently with my heart pounding. And since I am working on lowering my blood pressure naturally, anything to do with my ticker is worth noting.
So….

Well, my co-MIL who had childhood polio, now has Crohns, and several other really serious health issues, has been in crisis since the New Year. She's the person who says "Oh, no, it's OK, everything is fine, no problem" as she lays on a gurney in the ER flat-lining. Checked herself out of the hospital AMA couple days ago, only to be put in an ambulance by her son back to hospital yesterday. Middle Daughter is the only one who seems to be her voice of reason, getting her to agree to medical intervention. That's kinda comical, as MD is the family " crazy" one, who is oddly mostly correct in these situations.
Stress level is high, I'm at the bottom of a bottle of Pinot Grigio, I have absolutely no need for sympathy, just overwhelmed by fear for a lady that I love and respect.
Thought I had a plan for abstinence or moderation for 2024. Out the window for now. Or should that plan double up with adversity ?? Manana.13 -

I am sorry to hear your co-MIL has those health issues. She seems to not want others to worry about her health conditions from your post. It is a brave gesture for her to keep people from stressing about them.
Still, not easy on anyone in such a senerio.
I am so glad though you found the strength to come join us for 2024.
We are thinking of your concerns and the thoughts you have for your friend. Keep yourself well in all of this.

M-T-W-TH-F-S ZERO alcohol
Can not find the cucumber Fever Tree sparkling.
I saw the same flavor in tonic, BUT YUCK! No way.
So I purchased the mango body armor drink.
Poured it in a chilled stemmed glass with a few mandarin oranges on a cocktail skewer. If I had only had some fresh mint to pick and placed a mint leaf on the skewer it would have been picture perfect.

Feeling pretty good that I avoided the usual beer or wine while watching (American) football yesterday. Two more days of football to go and I plan to be AF for both.

As the end of my week one approached, I was thinking this was going to be a piece of cake.
Then, it occurred to me the next 7 days starts all over tomorrow!
We can do this if we are present in the moment each day and not worry about tomorrow,

I don’t like tonic, either. I like seltzer with various bitters, but there’s a small amount of alcohol in it. Mostly, up here in the cold and (presently) snowy northeast USA, I’ve been drinking various teas. My late-night go-to is chamomile, sage, and ginger. So rich and satisfying!
So, as said, after many days of drinking in December, I’m perpetrating a dry January. So far, so good!
Best resolve to everyone, with great joy in the new year!

I went to a brunch with a bunch of old college girlfriends. The wine, mimosas and Bloody Marys were flowing. I was tempted for a minute, but decided to stick with water. I didn't want to reset my NOMO clock again. I looked around and saw that quite a few of us were having water. I enjoyed the food and conversation and didn't have to worry about saying something stupid or worse, driving home impaired.7
