Got in 10K (at 10"18 pace). Joined by my 9year old doing laps at the end - did 2Miles from 4.25 to 6.25.
Wants to get into running track like his big brother
OK now I believe you are training for when you come to Tx and run with me.. That's very cool about the 9 yo. Of course in a few years he will be pacing you like his older brother.
@SummerSkier ha! Your 2024 stats are soo impressive! Both distance and pace! It'll be me asking you to slow down lol.
You'd be all:
"Back in the military, we had names for slackers like you! Mooove it! FASTER!!"
Lol, ok. Imagination getting better of me there.
Speaking of slacking....
When he was around 12-13, I remember running with my eldest "come on", "stop slacking", "only another...", "don't do dare stop" etc.
Didn't run with him for maybe all of 2022... got towards the end of 2023. And suddenly I was all "old man", "big guy" etc "that's all you got?" Etc.
Got how Darth Vader felt when Luke handed his *kitten* back to him in the rematch in Return of the Jedi lol6 -
another 7 to the mix. I probably should not have done it but tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. Hopefully my legs won't buckle while I am playing tennis this afternoon.
@tarun_yadavA you crack me up! 🤣🤣🤣

03.01 9°C 4.6km 40min 8:41/km slow
04.01 3°C 5.1km 43min 8:25/km slow-ish
05.01 7°C 2.1km 17min 8:03/km fast
07.01 -2°C 4.2km 34min 8:12/km 1min intervals x 9

Pretty much on track with regards to distance. For the first time I did speed intervals of 1min each with 1min rest between. Went surprisingly well. Lovely weather if a bit too windy.5 -

1/1 26.88 miles County Line and Beyond!
1/2 15.4 miles Running Partner A
1/3 16.58 miles 22°F - 26°F
1/4 15.33 miles, 2075 days on the run, Real Feel 18°F, Running Partner A
1/5 15.16 miles
1/6 18.57 miles, Crazy Laps! Cold drizzle = not friends
1/7 15.67 miles
Because sometimes I need a giggle
Points to ponder:The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.
You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read it straight through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish ...
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.11 -
Had a fantastic run yesterday in the snow. It was beautiful. My hounddog, Alfie, loved it too. Went 4 miles. Good first week,22 miles. Question for anyone running/walking in the snow and ice- what shoes do you recommend??4

If @PastorVincent were with us, he would probably tell you to make your own screw shoes (you can google that)

Thanks @daria0919 . Sorry you had to cut your run short due to feeling weak. I hope you are okay and not getting sick.
Thanks @shanaber . I think part of not sleeping well was that I was getting sick and I think not feeling well has made my sleeping stress high and making me restless. I am feeling better today, so hoping that I will sleep better tonight. You are doing great and I hope that once you get the last chemo done you will start to feel better.
@chris_in_cal Enjoy your two weeks off work and hopefully you can get in some good runs.
@juliet3455 I hope you enjoy the 5K. When is the race? If you said that already, I have forgotten. That's my old body/brain.
@tarun_yadavA Nice run and glad to see that your son joined you for a couple of miles. I hope he gets into track and enjoys it. Look what a good influence you are to your sons! Hahaha about your running with @SummerSkier and what happened when your older son got, well, older and faster.
Welcome @iryne29 I'm glad you ankle has healed. I understand the fear. I broke my elbow and it was years after it healed before I got the courage to try tennis again. Start slow and just listen to your body. I think you will be fine.
@SummerSkier Great run and very ambitious when tennis was scheduled later in the day. Looks like you did great with the tennis too.
Great run @yirara . Speed intervals are hard, but fun.
Great running @AlphaHowls . Love the funny and the points to ponder.
Great run @elizury . Love that you run with Alfie.
Nice job on the crazy laps @emptydog.

January Goal: 125 miles
1/1: 3.26 miles
1/2: 6.02 miles
1/3: 6.26 miles
1/4: 6.10 miles
1/7: 10.02 miles
31.66/125 miles
I ran 10 miles this morning. It was 33°F when I started out, and 53°F at the end. It is always so hard to know how to dress for long runs at this time of year. It was a pretty good run. I saw a guy at the cemetery with 3 big dogs. I have seen him there before. Before I have only seen them from the distance, but today I saw them when I came around the corner. The dogs came towards me, but he called to them and they went right back to him. He was very apologetic and as he got closer I realized that it was someone that I know. So at least if I see them again I won't be too worried.

Lots of good running to start the year off everyone!Nice run @martaindale! What race will you be running and when?
I am doing the Louisiana HM in Baton Rouge this coming Sunday. This is my official HM PR attempt for this season and my Louisiana race towards my 50 states count.
@iryne29 Your nerves around reinjury are totally understandable. This group will be happy to cheer you on as you build back up.
Great job on the HM PR @Scott6255!5 -
Morning all
Got in 6.66 (at 10"27 pace).
@SummerSkier @quilteryoyo glad I made you ladies laugh.
PS: no 777 today; but went 666 lol
@shanaber @daria0919
Ran over Tower bridge this morning, before 9 (on a Monday). Vehicle traffic, but very few tourists. Sprinkling of (guessing / stereotyping) Germans and Japanese tourists. Super efficient, first in Line types
@elizury nice to meet you!
Not an American football 🏈 fan at all... Gets lost in translation over the pond... But... Guessing:
Not a good morning to say 'Go Pack Go' huh? Sorry. Lol.6 -
@martaindale I didn’t know you were planning to race in all 50 states. I just figured you liked travelling to your running locations . That’s really cool! Enjoy your week of the taper!
@AlphaHowls I really liked your spoilers too! Especially the second one ! So true!
@Scott6255 Great job with the PR. I would totally listen to Garmin over Strava .
@SummerSkier Great job getting some distance in. Is it too late to join your RTY group? If not, I would like to .
I admittedly had a lazy weekend, but I did have an awesomely hard interval workout on the treadmill this morning to make up for it. The weather suddenly shifted from rainmaggadon to artic winter , so I opted for the gym, because I thought it would put less stress on my respiratory system. I did 3x8min intervals at 10k race pace, with a two min recovery between them. It was hard, but I got it done- all while listening to my racing playlist which has songs with a faster beat (step count). Then I went to the doctor’s to get a tick vaccination. One of my kids is sick, so hopefully she will get better soon and I will still be able to get some longish runs in this week. I completed 9.1km.
So far for January 35.6/200km.

@SummerSkier haha!
RTY thing - is this the one where you gotta pay something?0 -
Hi all,
What is a RTY and how do you see pictures?
Didn’t have time this morning for full 3 miles so did half this morning dnd will do other half later. Not ideal but get it when I can7 -
Great run yesterday @kgirlhart . I'm glad that you knew the guy with the dogs and that they are well trained. That will give you some peace of mind in the future.
@tarun_yadavA If it were me, I would have preferred the 777 over 666. LOL Love the pictures! I'm not @SummerSkier , but yes, that is the one that you have to pay something for. I just do the basic one...$25 US I think.
@Laurz9191 Great job on the intervals. I hope your kid gets well soon and you don't get it. What is a "tick" vaccine?
@elizury RTY is run the year. It is a tracker app where you put in your miles and try to run the year in miles/kms. (2024 in this case). As for Seeing pictures, are you asking how to see pictures that someone posts here? If so, you click on the little tab in their post that says "spoiler." The picture, or whatever they have written, will magically appear. Great job on doing what you can when you can. Breaking it up into two parts is much better than no doing it at all.

@quilteryoyo Our ticks over here sometimes carry the TBE virus (not Lyme but still not good). As I spend a lot of time in the forest and outdoors, I decided to do get the 3 shot vaccination. Today was my last shot.
@elizury Agree, better to break up/shorten a run than not even go out the door!4 -
RTY is indeed something which requires a payment but when I compared it to some other websites like Run America it was not really that pricey. Just Google Run the Edge and you can check it out.2

Probably the best run in ages. I love this cold, dry weather even though palms of my hands and my lips froze. Poor start though: For once I wore my winter running clothes, including winter leggings that are a tighter than my usual running pants. Together with compressive socks that I wear to prevent blood pooling. That was too much compression and the first 3km my lower legs just hurt. And then all went very, very well and was fun.9 -
-
Glad you had such a great run @yirara .
Way to get it done @daria0919 .
@Laurz9191 Our ticks carry some nasty diseases too. I have never heard of a vaccine for them though. It would be nice if we could take something that would keep the little buggers from getting on us in the first place.3 -

I slept some better last night, but was still restless. Then, before breakfast, my tummy decided to act up again. So, I took it easy today. I had hoped to run 3 miles, but wound up walking the entire distance to commemorate 3 years of life since my open heart surgery.

Beautiful cool evening. People are bundled up and bustling around with post-holiday seriousness.
January Running Goal: 13 runs, 50 miles- Jan 3 - 1.2 miles
- Jan 6 - 1.06 miles
- Jan 8 - 1.15 miles

Morning all.
Got in a 5k (09"26 pace). Office today!
Have a great day everyone 😊8 -
Still ecstatic from last nights run and tonight might be the coldest night of this year. So I want to run again. My running plan asks for 15 minute warmup, 3x3min fast intervals, then a series of short intervals and again a cooldown. Might be a bit too much after yesterday but I still want to go out and pull tomorrow's plan ahead.9
