Well managed my first day of eating like I like. Yesterday's fanfare was a small plate of cubed, roasted purple potatoes. They were in my little baggie of tri colored baby potatoes. My eldest loves when I make the sheet pan of roasted potatoes. Pretty much just cubed smaller, tossed in pepper, parmesn, and a glug of Annie's shiitake mushroom dressing. Then roasted at 350' for 30 minute intervals, turning until you get them golden. I then made his kielbasa sausage, onion, and zucchini mixture, waiting that in a pat of butter and glug of olive oil. I heaped the potatoes on a plate, added the sauted mixture over it and finished it with more parmesan. He literally shoveled. It makes me happy when he eats my meals, especially the healthy ones.
Anyways, I continued my kinda random eating with a small bowl of about 1/2 cup worth of yams and sauce. We had eating a Thanksgiving meal last week and I had fixed that. We had eaten all the marshmallows off the container I used in the oven to make it, so of course I put a new handful in. 🙄😂. Its not the same warming marshmallows in the microwave as they just puff up but still did the job. Then at 3 pm I had antpasted everything bagel with two slabs of fresh tomato, and garden medley cream cheese to anchor the suckers on the bagel. One slice of cheddar cheese but in half so when I hold each open faced creation, I don't get my finger stuck in the tomato. See here is a method to my madness...😂
I closed my eating window with another cup of black coffee at 5 pm. So my fasting isn't really about the times I don't eat, its just appreciating those 4 hours when I do. Also I look at fasting as not denying myself anythjng, but that the times that I fast as healing times. I also sleep better because by the time I hit the hay at 9 pm I have been "healing" for 4 hours already. Its nice to not be processing my food as much during the night. Less percolating, less Tums.😁.
Now ladies, I am definitely not trying to convince anyone of you to be intermittent fasters, its just my story. After years and years of measuring, of logging, of counting calories, for me I am just done. I know what 1/2 cup looks like, but I will cut up a zucchini or 1/4 of a huge onion and decide that is what I will put in a soup or whatever. I like the freedom of picking and choosing things like that. I have a container of Tillamook butter in the fridge cut up into tablespoons so its easy to grab a pat.
Hugs!
Rebecca

So... first thing this morning, walked into the laundry room, opened the washer to move last night's load of whites over to the dryer... and there is a washer full of water looking back at me with clothes floating in it. Tried everything, including unplugging it, setting it to drain and spin, and turning it back on. It just made a bzzt noise like it was trying, and gave up.
So, I pulled each piece of laundry out, wrung it out as best I could, and got it into a laundry basket, in case there was something stuck in the agitator... got nothing except wet up to my shoulder. So I unplugged it and let it sit. Corey got up and walked in there and did EXACTLY THE SAME THING I'd just done three times. And the persnickety thing started draining and spinning.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at him, or even the washer. This is karma. Back in my work days, this was how other people felt when I fixed their computers by doing the same thing they'd already done. I told them they weren't holding their lips right, and that I just expected it to work. Never had an explanation then, and still don't. But at least it's working!
So, now that everything's been rewashed, once it's dried, I can get those put away and be done with laundry for a couple days. It's already 70f (21c) and supposed to get up nearly to 80 (26). Time to put my flextape on and go outside and play again. The sun feels so wonderful at this time of year.
Hope it's a lovely peaceful Sunday for all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RITA!!! XOXO xxxxxxxx
Had a nice Zoom with my schoolfriends. We talked the whole time about our medical issues!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Lisa, Debbie, Annie, Barbie, Michele - Thank you so much for the feedback on the ovens. It’s all very helpful information! If anyone else still wants to chime in, please do. More information is better!
Barbara-Thanks for that info on the stoves and Consumer Reports info. Yes, CA is in the process of banning the sale of gas stoves, which is exactly why I’m doing this now. Mine is getting to the point it’ll cost nearly as much to repair it as to buy a new stove. And if we stick with it for another couple of years, I might miss that window to get a gas model.
Allie-As Tracey mentioned, put the entire remote into a bag with dry rice for a couple of days. It should remove any moisture that is trapped in it. The mister put his new cell phone through an entire laundry wash cycle. We did that it worked fine afterward.
Rosemarie-I love the Economist. I used to buy it before I got on plans when I travelled a lot for work.
Heather-So sorry to hear you’re in so much pain. My heart goes out to you on this. I wish I had an answer for you. It is very strange that you went from running on the boardwalk to barely being able to walk so quickly. I hope you have some actionable information soon.
Sue-Sorry to hear about your fall! I hope you’re not too banged up!
Machka-You have been amazing with all you’ve dealt with regarding your DH’s accident. I’m not sure I could have handled it so well.
Annie-You do have a lot to think about. Unfortunately, your situations are not easy ones. You will do the right thing when the time comes.
Lanette-I enjoyed that version of A Star is Born. I thought it was well done. Yes, Lady Gaga has an amazing voice.
Michele-They have automatic rental cars in Europe too. They may cost a bit more, but they have them. France is pretty easy to drive in, so don’t let that stop you.
Happy birthday, Rita. Enjoy your dinner!

Rita: Happy Birthday!
Annie: Yes, you are very smart to be thinking about various scenarios about your Dad's future care. I know from my own experience this can cause me to ruminate over and over again and can be exhausting. At least you have church and the Buddhist group to help balance this. And of course us!
I have no idea of your Dad's assets and all and certainly don't mean to impose on your family privacy.
I am sure memory care and nursing care has been discussed on this Forum in prior years before I joined.
My understanding is that half the memory care/nursing home population utilizes Medicaid and the other half does not. So my understanding is that Pensions and social security payments and so forth are placed into a Miller Trust and this brings the patient to a point where he/she qualifies for Medicaid. Medicaid pays the nursing home and then reaches into the Trust for the funds placed there each month.
There is a Child Caregiver Exemption that can save the house from Medicaid and Medicaid Estate Recovery.
I don't know how to post links yet or I would post a link about this Medicaid Caregiver Exemption.
I think for many of us there might be a reason to look into this Child Caregiver Exemption. We have all heard that Medicaid will put a lien on the house. But apparently if a child lives with a parent and cares for a parent who would otherwise be in a nursing home Medicaid will not put a lien on the house.
I am no expert on these things. Just read Google a lot. Maybe a social worker or Elder attorney is the best way for us to find information.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Today’s gratitude: the Katla project. Scrolling through all the profile pics, the love just shines out, warms my heart and lifts my spirits. Think I’ll keep a copy on my desktop for when I need a boost… or pip’s boot! Thank you ALL for participating.
Kim you’re in too!
Machka I get mad whenever you tell us about the back-to-work person. Please tell me she’s totally out of your lives now? Lord have mercy on her other “clielnts”.
Heather That much pain just doesn’t sound right. ((hugs)) While you know your own body best, hoping a prompt, real, professional examination elicits a helpful diagnosis. Do you have an appointment? Edie and Max really shot up quickly! Like your first and second steps, hope that helps you sleep.
Likewise Annie, good for you for preparing for the future, whatever it will bring.
Michele re: Katla will do. Glad the leg finally stopped oozing. Safe travels!
Lanette sometimes a song just catches me, brings a tear. That In the Shallows clip was one. Like you now I’ll keep an eye out for “A Star is Born”
Rebecca cilantro, ugh. Might as well grate up some Irish Spring. The Sorfrito I had tasted more of garlic, red pepper, dried tomato. Label says there’s also parsley, rosemary and sage. No cilantro :noway:
Just skimmin’ back later.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Did a complete strength training DVD, the plan for tomorrow is to do a Body Attack DVD.
When I went to the Y there was a train stopped on the tracks so I, literally, sat there for 1 hour. I know one road by the Y that intersects another road further down, but I couldn’t remember if there were any train tracks before the intersection. And my phone was in my trunk.
My leg is still oozing, but even less than yesterday. I really cut it deep. Fortunately, we have gauze and tape down here
We have a meeting here at the condo about the seawall (that needs to be replaced which means a good sized assessment) Vince is worried about how much the assessment will be. Update: looks like we may be looking at $13,000
Annie – don’t they make a milkbone-type thing for cleaning dog’s teeth?
April – I didn’t realize that your son was being moved so quickly. How wonderful for you! I love yogurt in the IP, too. I tend to like it not as “bitter” and I can control that in the IP
kylia – cats are quite easy to care for. You don’t have to worry about the weather to take them out. And you can leave them home for hours at a time and not have to worry about being home to take them out. You can even leave them overnight alone
Welcome everyone new
Leg seems to have stopped oozing
They’re supposed to deliver the new mattress tomorrow and the SPCA thrift will be here to pick up the old couch, loveseat, an endtable, lamp, and other assorted things. Wednesday the guy about the bathroom is supposed to be here. He did call me back pretty soon after I called him so that’s a good sign
barbara – unfortunately, I don’t know of any alternatives to the Wii if it craps out. I do DVD’s, if that helps any’ Update: happy belated birthday
Working on the Christmas tree skirt for Jess. We’re supposed to go to lunch with a friend of mine so I’ll work on it some in the car
Lisa – when is your birthday? Wow the medical stuff
Annie – never got stitches. It was just deep. Not enough skin was broken to even leave room for a stitch. Nope, not on any blood thinner
Ginny – yea for the implant
Been exercising every day. DVD’s spinning, yoga, pilates
Skimming right now because we need to leave in about an hour and I want to get this posted. Been laying in the sun when I can. Yesterday was the first day I went in the pool since my leg had been stopped oozing for a few days Been playing cards here and pot lucks.
A neighbor and I went for a walk yesterday. I had walked downtown and she met me half way back. She did show me a new park that I have to take my time and check out. Will do that another day
Rebecca – loved all the pics. Everyone looks so happy
M – when we were looking for a house Vince made a spread sheet of things that we must have, things that we would like to have, and things that there is no way we’d want
barbara – I’ve thought of katla a lot. Please give her my best. Photo is fine
Annie – good job increasing times. That Pharmacy thing sounds fishy to me
Lisa – congrats on paying off the house
Allie – is someone getting ready for Easter? So sorry to hear about Trudy’s cat
Drkatie – a friend of mine had her hair grow in completely opposite from what it was
Why do these guys keep trying to friend me on here? And I keep deleting them
Tracey – so sad
Sue WA – glad you were able to get up
I like my electric stove. One feature that I really like is the convection oven feature. Like an air fryer. I use that a lot. It also cooks foods faster
Heather – take care of that hip. My vote would be to cancel the cruise. Hopefully, you will be able to enjoy the next one even more.
Oh, got an email from bryan. He's going to France for a month so that Leo can meet some of his relatives, especially the older ones. He said we could go to France. that would be nice, but France is a big country. Where? Where would we stay? How would we get around (neither of us drives a stick). No, he really doesn't want us. Maybe SOMEDAY he'll come to the US, but I'm not holding my breath.
Michele now in FL soon to be back in NC
Yes, it was really refreshing to see everyone all vibing off each other. My sons chatted all of last Sunday, very comfortable conversations. I just kind of lapped that scene up like an old puppy.💖😁. The pizza get together was fun because my boys and my middle sisters daughter had never really chatted as adults. I think the last time was probably 2007. Cousin love.💖👍. My middle sister didn't really engage much in conversations, and towards the end she was sitting and shaking a bit. She was in a walker seat, but I think her legs were dealing with the newness of that. Normally she sits in her wheelchair. Its tough seeing a relative suffering, but I tried my best to talk to everyone there and not be too invasive.

Heather, In 2016 and 2018 I had serious problems with my spine. One required surgery and more than a month of slow rehab, the other kept me in bed almost all day for 30 days followed by a slow return to regular activity. I was saved by my spiritual practices including meditation, focus on changing what I could (my attitude and my behaviour) and taking life one day at a time. I know you will find a way to get through this current pain and frustration. I paid special attention to not making up my own stories with a bad ending,

Isn't that so karma.... Your "hold your lips like this comment" reminded me of my favorite phlebotomist. Her name was Laurie and she worked at Blood Source, a donation center in Vacaville CA. I would visit there a couple times a month donating platelets. Its a fairly arduous event, the needle being more like a small tube, and you worked with the machine that took blood out, spun it removing the platelets, then returned it to you via the same IV. So you were either squeezing the ball on the draw, or relaxing during the return for a couple hours. Anywhooo, she had a specific way of slipping the needle in, on her tippy toes, tongue out a bit, it was a riot. Once another lady did it, doing none of the things that NEEDED to be done.... The machine and I did NOT get along, on the return it was vibrating my veins because of the needle being near a "blood flap thing". She tried to reposition the needle, " ok lady who isn't Laurie, stop that"! I told her next time, its only you I want....
Fun times!

Tina ~ I love my Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator and just looked at their stove. It has a lot of neat features like quick oven preheat and convection with self cleaning. At the moment, I have a Maytag and I have not been that happy with it.
Michele ~ Sorry to hear about the cost of the sea wall project. I hope you will figure out some way to make it to France to visit Bryan and Leo. I'm sure where there's a will there's a way.
Rita ~ Very Happy Birthday!
Annie ~ Sounds like you have a plan. I think the idea of getting certified through a community school would be good. My older brother is a retired pharmacist.
Heather ~ Hope you get a diagnosis soon.

I did see a Star is Born and it was quite good. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are 2 talented people. Interestingly, I tried going back and looking at the 2 prior movies of A Star is Born, one with Streisand. But they did not hold my interest.
Cooper and Gaga sang Shallow at the Oscars in 2019. This is on U-tube. Cooper acknowledged he was a little nervous singing at the Oscars. You have probably heard he took singing lessons for this movie.

Well i had a whole blurb written out earlier and poof..it went bye bye.
Barbara- Happy Belated Birthday..sounds like you had a swell time..
Rita- Happy Happy Birthday and many many more.
Heather- i have bursitis in both my hips and had cortisone shots in both my hips..wow what a God Send that was....will get it done about a week before I go in October on the cruise.
I did rent a scooter last August and it was fabulous to get around the ship..they had it in my room when I got there and ,i just left it when i left the ship.. again it was a wonderful addition to the cruise.Hope you get your troubles fixed up soon.
Texted with Carmines boyfriend ,her Birthday is coming up on the 17th and asked what she wanted and she wants to get her eyebrow pierced 🙄 but she needs parental permission to do so..
So there is that.. told him I would take them out to lunch or dinner if they wanted..crickets...so who knows.. at least I tried..
Tracy is exhausted poor girl..7 -
Rosemarie-they will not take the house while you are still alive. You need to have some pretty specific language in your deed to keep them for getting home after your death. Your child being your caretaker typically doesn't change that. Estate recovery is very complicated and may vary a bit from state to state. It is set up to offset the government cost for your care. Skilled nursing can be 10,000 a month. There is a lot of discussion about changing the rules but that would most likely require the powers that be to talk to one another . . . . no easy answer. Best to consult your state department of Medicaid.
Ginny6 -
Heather, hope you get a diagnosis soon and then you will be able to make a decision about your cruises. So sorry to hear about your continued pain and I know it must be frustrating.
Tracey, so tragic to read about the chip factory fire. Such a loss to the community for sure.
Rita, happy birthday!
Annie good luck on your future career planning and good job on increasing your exercise regime.

Barbara ... did I wish you a Happy Birthday?? Happy Belated Birthday!! It sounds like you had a grand day.
Rita ... Happy Birthday!!
Heather ... I'm praying that your medical team is quick to find an answer to your leg pain!
Annie ... I think Rosemarie's advice to seek out an expert in Medicaid laws pertaining to nursing home and memory care facilities is wise. Each state and situation is different and none of it is easy. I do believe that if you don't voluntarily get POA from your dad, you are going to be faced with going to the courts to declare him incompetent. Messy any way you look at it.
Michele ... It would seem to me that your son has reached out and offered you an opportunity to meet your grandchild ... I would try and meet him where he is.
Tina ... I have a GE Profile Gas Range with a convection and a double oven. Like Debbie ... direct sunlight on the glass display panel (I specifically wanted glass) can sometimes make it difficult to read. I've had mine about 13 years without any problems except every once in a while the display panel goes out. A reset of the oven by unplugging (or in my case turning off the circuit breaker because the oven is in a tight space) has solved the problem. It's probably going to die now that I've mentioned it ...
Barbie ... While I grew up with an electric range, after leaving home all of my ranges have been gas. I've gotten so used to the gas that, when I try to use family member's electric, I seem to turn into the worst cook imaginable! Can't even scramble an egg on electric.
Taking it easy today.

Heather- my dh has had both hips replaced twice(first set failed after less than 5 yrs-he had the ones they recalled)
He said it sounds like you have defirred (sp??) pain. He had it. He actually went to the dr thinking it was his back or his knees. At first, the dr thought he was faking and wanting to get out of work- no, wanted to get rid of the pain so he could keep working. First they sent him to pysch-saying the pain was in his head, then to PT which made it work. He wouldn't send him to Ortho. One of my daycare parents happened to work in that dept. and set up the appointment. He started to send him for xrays of his knees then at the last minute after watching him walk said to check his hips too.
He was rude before doing the xrays then super nice after they came back- Good news was, knees were fine, bad news was both hips were shot and had to be replaced. They didn't think it was his hips because of his age(47 I think when he had the first one done) , wasn't obese , or no injury to his hips
They say it was a birth defect-wasn't formed perfectly round so wore them out.
It is amazing how they do the surgeries now- he was in for 10 days with the first one(a few complications with his BP and things like that), Now, you go in first thing in the morning and home just after lunch , dinner at the latest.
