Let's post a couple of common sense thoughts on here, maybe we can all learn a bit about what others consider common sense and maybe things that we do that we didn't use our common sense for. I'll start.......

If you are in the grocery store you don't park your cart in the middle of the aisle and then walk all the way to the other end of it to get something.

If there is a line at the counter, walking up and standing beside the line doesn't put you at the front of it

Oh that "line" thing bothers me to no end!

How about- if you are walking down a crowded sidewalk, do not just abruptly stop to text someone on your phone. There are people walking behind you and while I would love to personally run you over, I imagine there would be some consequences for that.
  • When you're driving down the highway, and you see that there is someone trying to merge on the right and there is NO ONE in the left lane, turn on your blinker and slide over.
  • If your kid is throwing a fit in the middle of the store - don't yell at them and drag them around. Instead, leave the cart and walk out with the child(ren). They'll figure it out real quick once that happens. At least, mine did....

I LOOOATHE both of these examples. Honestly I yelled at a guy at the gas station for that just the other day.

"Listen man I'm not trying to stand in this line all day."

"No you're trying to be a selfish *kitten*. Now shut up and wait."

Working out has done wonders for my big mouth.

If you're outside a public bathroom (as in at a Sounder train station) and the door is locked, perhaps that means someone is using it. Don't stand out there and keep trying the door handle and knocking on the door!

When you reach the top of an escalator, please start walking. Don't stand there and plan your next move.

If you are in the middle of Walmart or other store dont stand in the middle of the aisle blocking it just to talk to someone else.....Move over and get out of the way!!

    haha I am loving these.
If you are in the fast lane, and people are piling up behind you, get past the car you wanna get past and then get the heck out of the way. Doesn't matter if you are going 2 miles an hour above the speed limit that doesn't give you the right to hang out in the fast lane

Having two shopping carts each with 14 items doesn't mean you can go through the express lane.

    and Don't eat yellow snow!

Don't fill your shopping trolley with 2 for £1 multipacks of crisps just because they are cheap. Likewise lemonade.
  • Only get in line if you are finished shopping, it does not mean your friend gets to come up and piggyback her purchase behind your purchase just because you came into the store together.

Actually, in my building, there is. We have to select our floor and only get on the assigned elevator. There are no floor buttons in the actual elevators.

If you get on a mostly empty bus, don't sit next to people unless you know them. If it's crowded, that's fine, sit where you can. If you sit next to someone, try to not sleep on them. :flowerforyou:

THANK YOU for clearing this up! after approx 144 cycles I still hadn't figured it out!

but seriously, people who don't understand that sidewalks, hallways, etc work sort of the same way as a road, meaning there are two sides! Stay on your own! If I'm approaching double doors and someone is coming the opposite way, we should both be going through the door to our right! Ugh this happens to me at work ALL the time, I end up standing there holding the door for people when there is a PERFECTLY good door on their side!

(i realize I sound like a crazy person....am I the only one who follows this "treat sidewalks and hallways like a road" idea?)

    Dear cubicle mate,
Just because we are seated within a few feet of each other separated only by a 5 foot fake wall doesn't mean that I need you to comment about every conversation I conduct, whether it be someone stopping by or on the phone. Can't you at least PRETEND you can't hear every key stroke and breath I take?

    Thank you, signed -

If the driver of the car in front of you has stopped in the middle of the block don't start honking at him/her. You're not in that big of a hurry!! Perhaps there's a reason the driver stopped, such as the car in from of him/her was polite enough to allow another driver who was going the opposite direction to pull out of a driveway. Or perhaps the driver in front of you or the driver in front of him/her wants to make a turn into a gas station and has to wait for a pedestrian to get out of the way. Have a little patience!! We all have to share the road and the sidewalk.

Do not "reply all" if your reply is only needed by one of the 25 people it was sent to

If you plan on fixing something electric please unplug it

    Merging - it's like a zipper ya'll

You do not need to come to a complete stop in the main road to make a turn

If you aren't making a right don't cut over from the left lane at a light - if you are making a right please note you can do so on red

If I am doing dished or working out don't ask me "What ya doing?" clearly you can see what I am doing

Is this a common sense thread or politeness/respect thread? One can serve the other, but they are different concepts. I'd like to bring both back, more than JT's sexy.

Most of these I agree with heartily, but some seem like 'please conform to my preferences' rather than really dumb things. People pass me in the fast lane all the time because I refuse to sit behind someone going slower than the speed limit for miles when I'm going comfortably along at slightly above the speed limit. And I don't turn right on red because I don't have to, unless I feel like it. I'm not in that big of a hurry 99% of the time.
