RealMeSomeday... Great job on getting your walking in this morning!
Here's some great videos on how to use the elliptical .... this might help.

The elliptical scares me also and I've tried it a few times. :ohwell: I just can't get past 10 minutes; knees start hurting. Good Luck!! My hubby does it for 50 minutes almost every night - don't know how he does it! :huh:0 -
Lttee: you're certainly not a bum! I have found that if I keep pushing myself to exercise even when I feel tired, I end up doing exercises badly and hurting myself. So, I think rest days are just as important as active ones.
Ladygloria: you worked out while/after taking care of two people on top of the new job?! you rock!
Wednesday check-in:
1- Follow Chalean's schedule - done!
2- 5 fruits/veggies a day - done!
3- 1 glass of water before every meal- I forgot again...what's wrong with me?! this is the easiest goal I've set...0 -
3- 1 glass of water before every meal- I forgot again...what's wrong with me?! this is the easiest goal I've set...
good luck on meeting the other two, and the goals that we think are the easiest often slip out of our mind, you're not as worried about them. No worries, you'll get this!0 -

Bhurley1424, I remember Leslie’s videos. I still own them. I never made it past the one mile one a few years back and gave up. Do you like them? Maybe I can pull it out and try it again sometime after all of my other video plans are done. I hear you on it being hot. Today was odd because we have had a week’s worth of rain so I don’t think the sun remembered it was supposed to come out. Needless to say, I took advantage of the non-rain, non-hot day while I could.
Lttee, the first time I did intervals I did it with one lb weights in each hand and nearly died on some of them (I still struggle a lot with the one where you hold the weights over your head and drop them behind your back, oy, so when I run out of steam I drop the weights and try my best to continue the movements). It is intense, but you know it’s doing something so that helps. The exercises do seem to get easier as you go along, which I think is because she starts feeling bad for you and allows you to go with just body weight on some of the later exercises. I still do most of the modifications though on the cardio, especially if there is jumping.
Mak, personally I think you should count bowling as a non-30DS workout. It may be more easy keel than an intense cardio session, but you do get in weights and other movements that when compounded for as long as you bowl add up in calories. I’m jealous of your ability to work from home. What do you do for a living?
Philoshoe, I bow to your greatness with sodium—especially at a Mexican restaurant! Awesome job! About those shakes, do you really think they taste good? The few times I’ve tried protein shakes I gagged at the taste. Maybe I haven’t tried the right ones yet?
Kitinboots, running with dogs is an amazing workout. It can also be stressful if they are the type of dog who likes to pull at you. Hopefully your next canine friend will be able to accompany on your runs as well as this one has. Way to go on keeping with your schedule!
RealMeSomeday, thanks for getting that song stuck in my head. LOL! This is a great group. Keep coming and after a while you find you just can’t let the girls down. Plus, it’s great to feel the love. Great job on your goals! As for the elliptical, I’m no help with that. There’s something about how you move on that one that makes it super hard for me and I’ve never gone beyond 7 minutes. Hopefully some of the other ladies can help with that as I’ve seen a few of them use that exercise from time to time.
Billie9294, welcome! Glad you’re here. I like your goals. Simple, straight forward, and perfect for a healthy lifestyle. You can totally do this!
Papillion, thanks. You rock too! How are mid-terms going? I hear you on forgetting the supposedly easy goal—I have to remind myself at times what I’m supposed to be doing and goals I’ve previously mastered I sometimes need to add back. It’s hard to keep some habits as stress picks up around you, you know?
Littlemount, good job on your goals. Hopefully you got some rest and feel ready to tackle your steps again tomorrow. You can do it!
La_nanita, I read all posts since the last time I’ve commented and write my comments on a word document as I scroll down. Then it’s just a matter of cutting and pasting. It’s hard to keep up with everyone otherwise. I think eliminating your non-p90 goal for now is great. You’re still getting a heck of a workout with the program you’re doing.
Danlyn, I’m sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. Sadly, it seems to be going around. People all over the world that I know are getting the same type of cold. Must be the changes in seasons.
Hearts Desire, great job on your goals! What is with everyone getting songs stuck in my head? Now I’m singing eye of the tiger. LOL! I’m so glad you’re feeling good with exercise and logging. It’s nice to make goals that are attainable!
My progress:
1. Do something for myself every day.-went for a stress relieving walk with my boss at lunch time. It was nice.
2. Have at least three fruits/veggies a day.-um, if you count the dried fruit in my homemade trail mix, then sure.
3. Do Chalean X as scheduled.-yup, push 2 today. This is the hardest one for me. Shoulder heavy. By far it’s my lightest lifting in this series.0 -
Hey all! Looks like we had a pretty great Wednesday all in all!
Ittee & RealMe – Yes I do love my bike rides, but soon enough the weather will turn too cold for me to enjoy the rides. I’ve been trying to get them in at every available opportunity.
Philosohoe – Great job with your goals! That’s amazing you were under sodium and you ate out!! Two thumbs up and many many kudos to you!!
Mggirl – As for protein shakes I do shakeology in the morning, but it is pricy. I also do Pure Protein Vanilla, during the day. I think it falls into the guidelines that Philosohoe mentioned. It’s good. I had it today with some frozen strawberries.
Kitinboots – Great job with your run today! What kind of dog have you been running with? Is it yours, or are you dog sitting? I try and take my dog but he likes to stop a LOT along the way. So when I walk I take him, when I am going to run I leave him at home.
RealMeSomeday – This is a pretty great group  I'm glad you like the BLTS… it’s a total weakness of mine, which is why it’s been a goal of mine for a few weeks. As for the elliptical, I used here and there in the past, my one piece of advice is to work your way up in time. Start out 5 minutes and work your way up. And I found myself getting really frustrated at first; it was really had to get into a rhythm with the machine. But don’t let it get you down. You can do it!!!
Ittee – BLTS are SO much easier when I’m at home. Keep up all your hard work with all your workouts, you are doing amazing. 22 minutes is great work.
Billie9294 – Welcome to you! You have picked some great goals to work on. Good luck to you.
bhurley1424 – Oh yeah the elliptical can be harsh on the knees.
Papillon22 – Sometimes what we think will be our easiest goals are the hardest goals. Keep working and I know you will concur this one!
Littlemount – Hope you get a good night sleep!
La_nanita – For a while I entered P90X in as aerobics, but I invested in a heart rate monitor. Best investment I’ve made since starting MFP back in January. The HRM and a belt with holes all around the length of the belt  Great job with your goals today you’ll get that water goal I know you can do it. I enter in comments the same way LadyG does. I’m glad to hear our words of encouragement are helping you. Keep up all the great work.
Danlyn – I’m sorry to hear you aren’t feeling 100%. I had that Tuesday I didn’t want to eat anything. Glad to hear you were able to get your walks in. Don’t push yourself to hard, make sure you take care of YOU! HUGGS!
Hearts♥Desire – You’ve got the eye of the tiger going! Keep it up. Great job on your goals. Gotta love awesome exhaustion feeling after a good work out.
Ladygloria – Yeah I should probably count bowling as a non-30DS activity. Maybe I’ll try and remember to wear my HRM and see what kind of burn I get from bowling. I like the Pure Protein shake, it doesn’t taste too bad, and I mix it with skim milk, almond milk, or soy milk. It helps; it’s not so good with just water mixed it. Yes I am very very lucky to be able to work from home. I really have the best manager ever. I work for a legal publishing firm I work with our off shoring office and our local editorial staff. It’s really just a boring office job. Sorry to hear you are struggling with your fruit/veggie goal. Keep up all the great work with Chalean, and I’m sure you’ll get a handle on the tough parts in no time.
Wednesday check in:
1. 30DS – Day 7 is in the books. Just a few more days in level 1 and then I’m going to move up to level 2.
2. Get in 3 non 30DS workouts in – 2 for 3 – A friend and I swapped Turbo fire and Turbo Jam, so I did my first Turbo Jam workout. Fun fun fun!!!
3. Bring lunch and snacks to work – Done and done.
4. No extra BLTS (bites, licks, tastes, sips) – Did surprisingly good today. No M&M temptations. I did nab a bite of the husband’s dinner. All in all not to bad today.
5. Get my weekends under control – almost time to test my control.
Have a great night everyone. Here’s to a great Thursday everyone!0 -
Sorry can't be more supportive, but I did read everyone's check ins. I'm tired tonight, and sore, and feeling rushed (I don't know why either).
My check in:
Exercise 7 times, 3 chalean, 3 abs: swim, chalean burn 1, and ab burner, so all 3 again!! yay, love these days!!
Calories, with protein being higher than fat: hell yes! I'm doing amazing this week and today was awesome! Thanks to Philosohoe's man cooking dinner!!
3 servings of fruits/veggies daily: again, I'm on a roll
Super proud of me today, I met all three goals!!0 -
RealMe:Can any of you guys offer advice on how to do the elliptical? That machine scares me!!! ha!
Philosohoe - way to go keeping the salt down at a Mexican restaurant! how in the world did you accomplish that?
...I think I'm gonna like it here! :flowerforyou: :drinker:
Hi RealMe! We're so glad to have you here!
I started using the elliptical about 3 (4?) years ago. I started really slow as in low level and VERY short intervals--seriously like 3-5 minutes at a time. I would try to add minutes/levels very gradually. I took a long break (2-3 years) where I really wasn't doing anything, and when I started up again, I started with about 15 minutes on level 1. Now I can go about 45-60 minutes if I stay between levels 1-3, but the higher levels wear me out really quickly. Last night I did about 6 min on level 5 and almost died. I had to back down to 1 just to recover and last 20 min. As for the sodium, worked really hard at not absentmindedly eating chips, did not have any side dishes, and only ate half of my burrito. That and planning for a high sodium dinner by cutting way back during the day helped A LOT! I also drank about 7 cups of water right before, during, and after dinner, so I got full quicker and hopefully flushed a lot of my extra sodium out quickly. (Way too much water to drink at night btw. )
Wednesday Check In:
1) Exercise 6 days--check! 3/7 A short swim, but still exercise!
2) 10-12 cups water EVERYDAY--check 3/7 I feel like I'm floating half the day, but okay with it.
3) Sodium under 2000 EVERYDAY--check 3/7 Planned my whole day before bed last night all around the goal of being able to finish my leftover dinner for lunch and still meet this goal! Woo Hoo!
4) Take a walk or do some deep breathing exercises when I get that "I'm about to strangle punch maim stab someone" feeling. check--Not too stressful of a day. I actually took the time to eat my lunch in the break room rather than scarfing while driving.
5) DO NOT WEIGH IN ON ANY DAY OTHER THAN MONDAY. check 3/7
It's great seeing everyone's progress through the week. Checking in to our little group is one of the best parts of my day! I love to see all the encouragement and support. Just makes me want to work hard and stay FOCUSED! (Tnx HeartsDesire!) Have a great Thursday all!0 -
ladygloria:
Philoshoe, I bow to your greatness with sodium—especially at a Mexican restaurant! Awesome job! About those shakes, do you really think they taste good? The few times I’ve tried protein shakes I gagged at the taste. Maybe I haven’t tried the right ones yet?
Aww! You're too sweet!:blushing: I think I got lucky with my protein shakes. The first one I bought was not too terrible. There was an adjustment period, and I've tried doctoring them up with sugar free drink mixes like lemonade and iced tea to find a few combinations that I like. One of my other friends gave me a couple different brands/flavors to try that I ended up throwing away because they were so disgusting. It's kind of a hit or miss. I mix mine with water, usually more than the recommended amount because I don't like a super thick texture to drink. The best thing was that the shop that I bought my first batch told me that if I didn't like it, I could return it. That was a big selling point for me. Good luck with your experimenting!0 -
Hi all! Sorry I missed checking in yesterday. TOM and PMS struck hard last night and the baby had a weird night also; all added up to no exercise and just not feeling like doing anything. I had pizza for dinner but I managed to stay under calories (barely). Went to bed early and am still tired today. I'll check in later - I will be exercising; workout with the trainer tonight.
I love this group! All of you are wonderful and very supportive. Don't know how I missed this the past few months!
Oh, and ladygloria - I do love Leslie's video's. It really is a great workout for both upper and lower body! I burn more calories doing this than walking outdoors!0 -
Hi All!!
Thursday check-in:
So far, so good with logging my food. Didn't walk today as I had the day off from school. I may get some other form of exercise in later. Definitely been in bed by 10
Looks like we have new friends who have joined our group - welcome!! I'm sure you'll find some wonderfully supportive people here and I wish you all the best of luck with your journeys:flowerforyou:
Thanks for the support, as usual0 -
Thursday 9/29 -
Calories- 1111
water- 72 oz
exercise- over 6000 steps
Philoshoe you do a great job with your sodium intake especially in the restaurants.
I am very salt sensitive so I know the minute I eat salty food my ears start ringing I am borderline on my blood pressure and I control it with diet and exercise.0 -
Mak, thanks for the support and encouragement. Today was rough with being so tired. I have gotten back into convenience food and I need to get back onto the fresh food kick. Getting home so late, however, makes it tougher to do. Your job sounds nice. Boring is definitely better when you can do it from home. Great job on goals and avoiding those M&Ms!
Lttee, I can’t believe you manage to do all of those exercise in a single day. Way to go! No wonder you were tired. Also, congrats on finally breaking your stall and meeting all of your goals in the same day. I’m so happy for you!
Philosohoe, this may seem like a stupid question, but how big are your glasses of water? When I first starting making sure I was getting enough, I realized that most of my glasses were much larger than the required 8 oz that make up the traditional glass of water. Maybe you have the same issue going on? If not, I also remember when I first made the switch to increase water I felt the same way and went to the bathroom all of the time. Eventually your body adjusts and you become more efficient with it.
Bhurley1424, I hope you and the baby are feeling better. Thanks for the advice on Leslie. I may try it again soon. Right now I’m mid-commitment with Chalean X and zumba so I don’t want to change it up just yet; but variety is the spice of life.
Danlyn, it’s nice to have a day off and enjoy it while you can. Great job on logging!
Littlemount, do you follow the special diet for people with salt sensitivities? I was reading about it the other day and the sodium requirements are so low that the only way to do it is to eat all fresh fruits and veggies. It must be scary to have your ears ringing with something most people don’t think about until it’s too late.
My goals this week:
1. Do something for myself every day.-took a nap when I got home because I was feeling exhausted.
2. Have at least three fruits/veggies a day.-failed all around today. Too many carbs and junk food. Only veggies I had were on my whopper jr at lunch.
3. Do Chalean X as scheduled.-did Burn it Off and recharge. Technically I’m supposed to do those on Saturday, but that’s zumba day so I’ve modified the schedule for days 2 and 4 to get in Chalean’s cardio as well.0 -
ladygloria:Philosohoe, this may seem like a stupid question, but how big are your glasses of water? Eventually your body adjusts and you become more efficient with it.
I'm trying to get my routine as: start with a cup of water in the morning to take meds (I'm on blood pressure medicine for my high bp and kidney issues); try to drink a 24oz bottle of water between breakfast & lunch; another 24oz from lunch to dinner; and another 24oz before bed (usually during/after swimming). Total 80oz! The real problem with this plan is that I have a longer break between breakfast and lunch than I do between lunch & dinner, so I feel like I'm pounding down 70% of my water in the last 6 hours of my day instead of nicely spread out over 12 hours. Hence the floaty.0 -
Goals for this week (9/25-10/1)
1 - Track food daily, make healthier choices
2 - Workout 4-5 days this week
3 - Stay FOCUSED on the Game!
4 - Check in EVERY DAY no matter what type of day I've had
:flowerforyou: Monday Check-in:

Off to bed, I'll work to catch up and see how everyone is starting out their week... Have an awesome Wednesday My Dear Friends!!
Weds Check-in:
1. Good food choices today, though I need to plan better when I'm out all day to make sure I keep my blood sugar level up.
2. Worked out and it felt good! I'm exhausted but in a very good way...
3. Still Focused with the Eye of the Tiger.
4. Checking in...again, I'm on a roll...really PROUD of myself because the food AND the check-ins have been spot on..feels good to meet goals!
Thurs. Check-in
1. Could have a done a bit better in choices, well I guess the choices were pretty OK, simply ate too much of one thing. ...logged everything though and only went over on sodium and carbs... I typically don't so I'm OK with that.
2. Great workout, looking forward to tomorrows!
3. Refocusing and working to not beat myself up on going over a bit today...:grumble:
4. Taking time to check in and say hello to you all... now off to
YAY tomorrows Friday!!
Sleep well all.. :smooched:0 -
HeartsDesire: you shouldn't beat yourself up over a little over. Great job checking in every night.
Ladygloria: I sincerely hope you feel better and am impressed that you still did some exercise even though you're feeling ill.
littlemount: great job being so aware of bp that you can adjust with diet and exercise
danlyn: I'm so glad you're back with us, just your pic of pets seems to fit in with this board0 -
Aw heck and I forgot my check in:
Exercise 7 times, 3 chalean, 3 abs: swim only, to be fair I had parent teacher conferences for two hours this evening and didn't get home until after 7:30
Calories, with protein being higher than fat: yeppers this may be a habit already
3 fruits/veggies daily: day 2in a row !!
And the best part of today was finally losing a pound!!0 -
ittee:And the best part of today was finally losing a pound!!
Hooray for your pound! I'm so proud of you! I know you were starting to get frustrated, but you have totally kicked it into high gear exercise-wise for the last 2 weeks. You keep me moving! Good job bestie!
HeartsDesire--congrats on your met goals today! And YAY for "tomorrow's Friday!" Hope it's a great one for you. You go get that Tiger stare back!
Thursday check in:
1) Exercise 6 days--check! 4/7 Even though we started late, still got almost an hour in.
2) 10-12 cups water EVERYDAY--check 4/7 Managed to spread it out a little better today, so not as floaty feeling tonight
3) Sodium under 2000 EVERYDAY--check 4/7 I have no idea how it happened. I totally shocked myself when I completed my check in and sodium said 1264.:noway: I almost never go under 1500. I have to call this a happy accident
4) Take a walk or do some deep breathing exercises when I get that "I'm about to strangle punch maim stab someone" feeling. check--First 2 hours of the day were pretty slow, but then it got crazy busy, so no time to walk or breathe, but fortunately not to much going on to raise my blood pressure. I may not be able to say the same tomorrow; we have an all day meeting.
5) DO NOT WEIGH IN ON ANY DAY OTHER THAN MONDAY. check 4/7 I've been resisting the urge, but especially after such a good workout & a low cal day, I know I'm going to be tempted tomorrow, so here we go: I PROMISE, AVOW, AND AFFIRM THAT I WILL NOT WEIGH IN TOMORROW.
Hope everyone has a great Friday! So close to the weekend, I can almost taste the freedom! Night all!0 -
Super duper late Thursday check in:
1. 30DS – Day 8 is in the books.
2. Get in 3 non 30DS workouts in – 3 for 3  – Turbo Jam 20 minute workout, so fun. I got a little lost during some parts, but it was still fun.
3. Bring lunch and snacks to work – Done and done.
4. No extra BLTS (bites, licks, tastes, sips) – all I have to say is BLAH
5. Get my weekends under control – Friday night here I come!
So I had dinner with a friend Korean, so GOOD. And I knew I was going out to dinner, so I was conservative with my calories during the day and got my workout's in. I think over all I did pretty good at dinner. But I have no idea how to log what we ate so I really have no idea how many calories I ended up eating.
Had my weekly weigh in today. Up 1/2 a pound from last week. I started to get a little down, but I thought to myself, I ate out dinner the last two nights (sushi Thursday night then Korean Thursday night) and I know that's probably the reason, so I'm really trying now to get too down on myself. I haven't popped back up to the 160's so I'm happy with that. But I really don't want to linger around in the upper 150's forever. So time to starting being much more careful with the eating out.
I hope you all have a great Friday. I'm sorry I can't comment on all your updates (gotta get to work) but know that I did and i'm rooting for all of you! HUGGS to you all!!0 -
Philosohoe: you're doing so well with your goal of not weighing in. You can keep it up!
MAK: I love turbo jam 20 mins workout! It took me a couple times until I got the choreography down, but it's fun.
Thursday/Friday check-in:
First, I'm done with midterms! it all went well! I'm particularly happy about the statistics one because math + terrible professor= me in limbo.
1- Follow Chalean's schedule - done!
2- 5 fruits/veggies a day - done!
3- 1 glass of water before every meal- I just remembered before my dinner tonight. It's a start!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!0 -
HeartsDesire: you shouldn't beat yourself up over a little over. Great job checking in every night.

I'm glad to be back too!! I am a HUGE animal person and have my own pets, as well as working part time as a dogsitter, which I LOVE.
Check-in for Friday:
Logging my food - so far so good today. Got some good exercise in cleaning (much more than just my regular cleaning) so I feel good even though I didn't walk today. I have plans to get to bed by 10 even if it's Friday night. I feel so much better when I'm consistent with my bedtime.
You guys are so awesome with commenting on everyone's individual posts. I wish I was able to find the time to do that, but life has been a bit crazy for me lately. I do want you to know that I appreciate what a great support you all are.

Sorry ladies, I'm super tired so I'm going to have to respond to everyone tomorrow. Great job!
My goals this week:
1. Do something for myself every day.-um, not today; but I'll do better tomorrow.
2. Have at least three fruits/veggies a day.-did well with this today, although I could do better.
3. Do Chalean X as scheduled.-did Push 3 tonight. Arms are so sore! Glad I have two days off of Chalean, even though I do love it my body needs a weight break. Zumba tomorrow as long as I'm feeling good!0
