NSV: Clarification: when I write food = fuel, that means that food is a necessity- no fixation. I eat when hungry, and it’s somewhat mundane/boring. I’m that person that doesn’t mind eating the same thing three days in a row… ex: super dry chicken breast 🤩 Eating is simple. Little to no variety.

WOE since 7/2023: MAD: (Mostly Animal Diet) Whole Foods. No processed foods. Animal-based proteins: EGGS, Beef, pork, chicken, seafood, venison and grass-fed whey protein. I count macros & kcals - always will. (Since portion control is my issue). Keto is high-fat but I’m now leaner animal proteins with lower fat than Keto. I thought I was “KETOVORE” but I’ve been told I am “MAD”.
I had paralyzing IBS for 20+ years. My mother was diagnosed with celiac’s disease in her 50’s. Following her lead, I eliminated wheat, oat, barley, and rye in 2015 …. Dairy? Hard cheese, HWC and butter - an occasional high protein Greek yogurt. Vegetables destroy my digestive system… I love vegetables, but when I splurge, I pay for it for several days… I do enjoy berries, lemons, limes. Avocados are my weakness. Enjoy a piece(s) of dark chocolate on occasion. Generally, I eat btw noon and 6 pm. (IF18/6). Alcohol? Used to be somewhat of a weekend social drinker and would enjoy a good martini/scotch or Paloma at home while cooking dinner. NO MORE. Root of many evils. Primarily, the destruction of will power and the enemy of optimal choices. I’d rather journey toward my best-self. I haven’t given up alcohol completely, but I enjoy it sparingly on special occasions. This is me. I finally feel terrific.
History:
I have ALWAYS been ON a “diet” since at least 9th grade. I have never been comfortable with my body - NEVER EVER- no matter my weight.
Pre- college: 125-130lbs
College- up to 160lbs one year… graduated @130lbs.
Many MANY different diets each decade!

Aug 14, 2014 @ 157lbs (down 15 from heaviest of 172lbs in 2010), I decided to take serious control of my health. I lost 30lbs by 11/15/2014. Weight @ 128-132lbs through the end of 2020. Six years!
2020 through 2021, I fluctuated 132-140lbs. 🎢🎢🎢 Always self-conscious.
8/1/ 2022 crept up to 142lbs.
Dropped to 128lbs again by 10/30 - held 130lbs till 2/1/23.
2023 Back ⬆️ 145lbs by July 15! 15lbs BOOM! Enjoyed eating & margaritas way too much. My nutrition has always been somewhat healthy BUT portion control is/was THE issue. Started tracking again 7/15/23. Joined “Just give me 10 days” R231 in beginning of 8/2023. Here we are @ 130ish determined to…. STOP the 🎢 & be in the

The yo-yo is exhausting & unhealthy. Takes up way too much brain space.
I learned MY choices created an emotional 🎢 roller coaster with yo-yo weight and fitness. My forever goal is to be healthy & fit & maintain approx. 130lbs & IN SHAPE - to enjoy my “Senior” years to my fullest.
While active with 🚶♀️& 🎾 it’s clear a ST 🏋️♀️🤸🏼routine was absent. Strength & balance are 💯most important now. Time to incorporate ST 🏋️♀️ 🙆♀️🤸🏼as my TRUE focus. I want healthy/fit choices to be my first nature.

History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

4/16 – 129.0 What the heck?!!!!! I thought my scale was broken. Yes, yesterday I was off track, but 3 lbs is physically impossible. We’ll see how it settles out over the next couple of days. Hubby had the same issue this morning. Neither of us are happy!

Variety of reasons 1) highly distracted 2) trying to empty refrigerator, freezer and shelves before heading north in a week. I’m back from traveling in Belgium and France, home of incredible culture, history and architecture as well as outstanding patisseries, cheese, crepes, and chocolates. Fortunately I followed the @musicsax program of walking a million miles each day to try to balance out the dietary changes. I’m feeling so grateful for the experience of this trip and meeting so many friendly people.

This is long, so no need to read. I’m writing partly to find out what I’m thinking. I’m in the throes of some big decisions about life, all building up for a while but banging around in my head in a big way right now. I’ve mentioned here my friend who has had serious health problems over the past year and is now on dialysis 3 days a week and essentially immobile. On Tues her husband came in from mowing the lawn, sat down with a cold drink, and had a massive heart attack. Last I heard he was alive but not responsive. This has all been a sad reminder that life can change in a heartbeat, literally. I’m 71 and Roger will be 89 in July. We’re both healthy, thankfully, but realistically I don’t have much time left to monkey around. (20 years is not much time imo.) Things that used to be vitally important to me no longer are, and I’ve developed some new interests. One of the decisions I’ve made is to (try to) step back from my lifelong worry about weight and tracking calories and yada yada. The recent photo with the stack of diet books really hit me—like many of you, I’ve read everything and know a lot and yet have struggle with weight or worry about weight since the first diet I was put on in the fourth grade. The only times in my life I haven’t “dieted” (and I include any kind of restriction in that) were when I was working and studying overseas, and walking everywhere. Clearly my lifelong diet worry hasn’t worked. So one of the things I’m dropping, maybe short term, maybe for good, is tracking. I’ve already stopped tracking food, and I’ve put my scale in the closet after this morning’s weigh in. All of which is to say I’m not sure how long I’ll stay with this group. I really enjoy reading your posts, but I may need to step away for a while. I’ll stick around for this round and see. Anyway, thank you all for being so supportive and open about your journeys.
@SheilaBoneham I like that you said, "I’m writing partly to find out what I’m thinking." Keep writing. I like to journal (hand written) and I heard someone say recently "I journal by hand. It slows my brain to the speed of my hand so I can understand what I am thinking." I am sad for your friend.

And so it begins again. A fresh start for everyone.
I am very pleased with this morning’s scale reading. Last night I helped in the kitchen at church for an event. When I “filled” my plate afterward to sit and eat with the other helpers I erred on the side of excess. Still managed to stay under my budget thanks to exercise calories eaten back. I will do that within reason, but I try not to eat them all back due to possible errors in logging.
The true bump may come tomorrow, so I will be careful today.

This morning our local chamber of commerce has its annual “forecast breakfast.” All the taxing bodies will go to the podium and give an update on what’s happening at their end of the world. Village, School District, Library District (I am on the elected board), Park District, Police & Fire. It is always interesting. My former firm has done (or is doing) design work for all of them. The highlight is pumpkin pancakes. This should be my big meal of my day.
This new decade of pounds I am in has a mild inspirational effect. I know I am too close to the 220’s to get too happy because there WILL be a bump up. (pumpkin pancakes for example) But five days in a row under it is meaningful.
Striving for the next decade.
By the way, I know “decade” is the wrong word. Can’t think of anything better this morning. Any ideas?

I really didn’t eat a lot of food but it was high carb-breaded shrimp and Nashville Chicken Bites, sugar free vanilla cake and the blueberry filling from a slice of SF blueberry pie, at a 2” square of real crust from “apple cobbler.” I also drank a lot of water after we got home. I feel bloated-something I don’t experience often. Optometrist today so I can replace the glasses that broke when I fell in Ensenada. Tonight is community bingo with pizza for dinner.🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

This is long, so no need to read. I’m writing partly to find out what I’m thinking. I’m in the throes of some big decisions about life, all building up for a while but banging around in my head in a big way right now. I’ve mentioned here my friend who has had serious health problems over the past year and is now on dialysis 3 days a week and essentially immobile. On Tues her husband came in from mowing the lawn, sat down with a cold drink, and had a massive heart attack. Last I heard he was alive but not responsive. This has all been a sad reminder that life can change in a heartbeat, literally. I’m 71 and Roger will be 89 in July. We’re both healthy, thankfully, but realistically I don’t have much time left to monkey around. (20 years is not much time imo.) Things that used to be vitally important to me no longer are, and I’ve developed some new interests. One of the decisions I’ve made is to (try to) step back from my lifelong worry about weight and tracking calories and yada yada. The recent photo with the stack of diet books really hit me—like many of you, I’ve read everything and know a lot and yet have struggle with weight or worry about weight since the first diet I was put on in the fourth grade. The only times in my life I haven’t “dieted” (and I include any kind of restriction in that) were when I was working and studying overseas, and walking everywhere. Clearly my lifelong diet worry hasn’t worked. So one of the things I’m dropping, maybe short term, maybe for good, is tracking. I’ve already stopped tracking food, and I’ve put my scale in the closet after this morning’s weigh in. All of which is to say I’m not sure how long I’ll stay with this group. I really enjoy reading your posts, but I may need to step away for a while. I’ll stick around for this round and see. Anyway, thank you all for being so supportive and open about your journeys.

Thanks to those who commented on my long entry yesterday. The good news is that my friend’s husband is doing reasonably well. And I’m feeling pretty good about trying not to track, although it’s so thoroughly ingrained after years of doing it that it’s mostly automatic. Anyway…. @_JeffreyD_ I do journal by hand most days—I’ve filled many notebooks! Research shows that our brains are more engaged when writing by hand than when typing. Not that I can read my own writing anymore! But journaling, like walking alone and unplugged, is a great way to work things out. Pulling weeds, too, and that’s what I’m off to do!

Bad bad habit that I've never been able to break. Although my nails still aren't long, I have more nails now than I ever have and I can actually paint them 😀.
4/17 170.2 I was waiting for a drop. I could tell my body has been holding on to water. Also have barely had an appetite for 2 days, so I was a good bit under on calories both days (not complaining about that 🤪). Weight will probably go up a little when I'm eating back to normal.

4/19 - DNW - I ended up waking up right as BF came back from the gym and it threw me off routine so I forgot to weigh. I'm not upset about it, I'm still dealing with some horrible TOM/PMS including bloat so it's probably better I don't see the scale and add one more reason to be down on myself. Instead, I told myself I was going to have a really good run and I did. I repeated the Peloton 60 minute walk/run and I feel like I did better (at least I felt better) during this one which is good. I'm tired and sore (hills) but I feel accomplished. I ended up getting a coach for the next 4 months. Typically they do 6 months but since I'm ahead of the game compared to her normal clients, she's starting me at 4 with option to continue after that. Our focus is nutrition but I can ask small things about exercise and mindset or I can choose to add in those coaching modules for an added price at any time, too. Due to budget I'm sticking to the number one thing I feel like I could use the most help which is nutrition. I'm excited to start Monday! I think having the monetary investment will keep me accountable and the added accountability to my coach will keep me better focused and more aligned with goals than trying to do it on my own. I know how to eat right, but I'm still very unbalanced macro-wise which is what she'll help me with. Progress, not perfection!

4/17 - Busy with work and completely forgot to check in and post! Oops. Doing pretty well so far. BF skipped out on the gym this morning but I went and had a really good back&shoulders day by myself. I'm suuuuuper duper sore in my legs from Monday so I think I'm holding on to a little weight from DOMS. I just got my 2 new recipe books in, both Paleo (Well Fed and Well Fed 2). Meals planned out for today and feeling capable. Hopefully work is productive but not overly stressful. Yesterday was a good balance and I'd be okay with that again.
4/18 - TOM and with a vengeance. For what? I don't know. I knew it was going to start today and it hit right as I started my workout. Ouch. I'm super bloated and horrid cramping so I'm taking it as easy as possible the rest of the day. Explains the scale, though! Almond butter oatmeal for breakfast. Chicken pot pie soup for lunch, dinner will be ground beef and broccoli. Depending on if I need to be on a work call about 10pm tonight, I'll wake up and run (last run before the 10k next weekend). BF going to the gym for a second round of legs. Work is busy busy busy and stressful. Can't wait to get this part of the project DONE

04/18 -DNW- (Trend weight DNW) Leaving this morning for the Cancer Center. I’ll probably take a couple of days off weighing until I can get back on this journey with some normal diet and exercise. Eating my meals in restaurants, getting no exercise or movement and doing nothing but sitting is not part of my journey. I’ll post numbers when they better reflect my efforts or my disregards, not my stuck-withs. I’ll keep up with reading the posts as best as I can. I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty scared and shaken up about this re-check. I’ve been through a lot these last couple of years and all of this is not normal par for the course. I’ve had 3 scares before with a few years in-between each. All 3 times was cancer (or pre-cancerous). I am trying to stay hopeful. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes.
04/19 -DNW- (Trend weight DNW) So I am relieved to say that I’ve “passed the test” so far. Doctor said if there was a 2% or better change in the mammogram findings I would have to come back for a biopsy. I was 1.4% so I’m in the clear for now. However, they will do another diagnostic mammogram (not a screening mammogram) again in 6 months to continue to monitor. I am so completely grateful and feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. Except in the hip area. They feel squishy and more “bloated”. A few more days of no weighing for me as I let all the travels melt off me. Oh, wouldn’t it be nice if it were that easy? Thanks again everyone for your kind words of encouragement and your prayers.
