Thanks @ContraryMaryMary ! I hope the iron supplements kick in and you have more energy/exercise tolerance in a day or two. Great job on your run today. You needed to taper anyway.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA !

I went to the gym this morning. Only new things were leg curls and thrusts (squats with an 8 pound ball that you "thrust" over your head when you are standing) I feel like my arms and legs got a good workout today.
When I got home, I accidently did a 2.50 mile wun on the treadmill. (I had planned to stop at 2.25, but went past that before I noticed, so just kept going.) Avg pace was 15:31 min/mile. Avg HR was 104 with a max of 132 bpm.8 -
@AlphaHowls - sending you big {{HUGS}}. Definitely have to find those things in your life that you can control because life will certainly keep throwing curveballs!5

Good Luck to all our racers this weekend @Daria0919 and @TheMrWobbly and @martaindale
Happy Birthday @kgirlhart , Have a great weekend!
@AlphaHowls - Stay strong & I hope ur mum will be ok.
For around a month I've started doing yoga in the mornings and it's taking up the timeslot when I was on the bike. It's hard to get the balance right. The yoga is definitely helping me stretch and improve my posture which is terrible but I don't have time in morning then to do bike. My routine last year was 10 miles bike in morning and 3.5miles run in the evening, now its yoga in morning and either bike or run in the evening. So I'm going to try to fit a bike ride in at lunchtime and run in evening as I love both. I'll figure it out. I think my biggest issue is that my energy levels took a dump over the past 2-3 months.9 -
Thanks for the birthday wishes @martaindale, @scott6255, @quilteryoyo, @contrarymarymary, @teresa502, and @marri33a. So far I am enjoying the weekend.
@7lenny7 I love the shirt and the mug.
@martaindale Love the costume!
@AlphaHowls I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. Prayers for you both.6 -

@kgirlhart Happy belated birthday! I love your attitude- I’m old enough I’ll do what I want
@7lenny7 Those are some very thoughtful gifts!
@martaindale It sounds like you had a really fun 5k. I hope tomorrow’s race goes well!
@daria0919 Good luck on your 10k!!! You got this!
@TheMrWobbly Good luck on Sunday! Enjoy it!
I’ve been pretty tired this week even though I haven’t been running. I think I will go on a recovery run tomorrow and see if that gives me more energy.8 -
Keeping everything crossed for you Mum @AlphaHowls
You are so right, run far, run free! Because you can!
Let's do Alphahowls proud this weekend and cover the mileage she is unable to do.10 -

Yes. Kind of like your neighbor we just wave at each other. So I'll send all the positive thoughts I can to your mother, and you. This sounds tough.7 -
@AlphaHowls keeping your Mom and you in my prayers. ((Hugs))3

Sending prayers to you and your mom @AlphaHowls. Thank you for sharing with us and reminding us of what is most important.6

@Teresa502 how much of the AT have you hiked? Is a thru-hike in your future? Beautiful photos
I meant to reply to you earlier @7lenny7 but it slipped my mind. I've hiked a little over 650 miles of the AT. Everything in GA, NC, and TN except a 50 mile section in GA and TN and I've done a large part of VA. I doubt I will ever thru-hike it but I'm hoping to cover it all as a section hiker. There is so much out there in this world that I want to do. Internationally, I also want to hike the Camino and Hadrian's Wall.7 -

That's awesome, @Teresa502 ! I'd love to do some through hiking but I use a CPAP for my sleep apnea so that would make it challenging. I plan on section hiking the Superior Hiking Trail in northern MN (hope to get 100 miles knocked out in September) and may go after the Pinhoti Trail from GA to AL. That's under consideration for me mainly because they have a new 200 mile race that I'm seriously contemplating in 2026 if I'm retired. That race would take care of well over half of the 335 mile length.
The Camino Frances is planned for October of my first year of retirement. I hadn't heard of Hadrian's Wall. Will have to check that out.
ETA: I looked it up...Hadrian's Wall is now on my list, thanks!

@Mari33a It's hard to find time to fit everything in that we want to do. Sounds like you are doing a good job at it though. Would it work to alternate your mornings between yoga and biking?
I hope the recovery run goes will tomorrow @Laurz9191 .

Good morning everyone!

My 10K is done! Thanks to this group for all the encouragement and the enthusiastic support in general that each of us gives to each other. This is an amazing group!
Some race info and photos in spoiler:It went fine. I wasn’t as fast as I was hoping for, but I did finish. My body doesn’t do well with heat and humidity. It was about 60 F and cloudy at first but the humidity was 91% which is too high for my body to tolerate well. By about mile 4 the sun had burned through the clouds and it became hot for me. I used the water stops to pour water on myself to try and cool myself down.
I did enjoy it otherwise. I love the party atmosphere! This is the biggest Richmond Virginia party! Over 30 bands perform along the course and the neighbors who live on Monument Avenue, where the race took place, come out and cheer everyone on.
My pace was slow, brisk walked it mostly, but managed 15:36 minutes per mile average according to Strava. But official pace with weaving in between people was 16:03.
There were 18,399 finishers. I’m 64 years old and in my age group I was 237 out of 614 women, so that put me in the top 40%, which I’m fine with. I haven’t done a 10K race in nine years, so I’m happy enough with my results. Being overweight does definitely make it difficult to go fast. Motivation to work more on my weight loss.
I’m extreme proud of my husband ❤️ who did this to support my effort to train for the 10K! Even with a very painful lower back, he went out there and managed a 12:04 pace without even training much.
Me, post race still wet from the water I poured on myself:
My hubby (wearing his Disney marathon shirt from 2013, who btw does just fine in heat and humidity for his runs):
Crowds in front of me (zoom in to see how far start line was, where the large American flag is):
Crowds behind me:11 -

Adventure is Out There 10k this morning with my friend. She did great! She used to do triathlon but has fallen off the exercise wagon and is using the training for this 10k as a jumping off point to rebuild the habit.
We followed the RWR intervals she trained with and it made the temps a lot more tolerable. I am considering employing a version of it for the 10 miler tomorrow. I was less sweaty after 10k today than after the 5k and feel less tired. The heat really takes it out of me.
We went to Magic Kingdom for a few hours after getting cleaned up. Probably stayed longer than I should have but we had a good time. Rode some rides, saw some shows, ate some snacks. Now I'm back at the hotel with my feet up for a couple of hours before heading to bed.
Today's costume:6 -
Congrats @daria0919! Heat and humidity do a number on me too. You did great!!4

Nicely done, @martaindale looking forward to seeing the next outfit!
9 miles for me tonight. I didn't sleep well so I cut back on the distance and went road running instead. It also occurred to me that I told my wife that I'd cut back on running after the race so I should probably dial it back at least until we get our boat in the water for summer.

Hi all, back home and racing about trying to get stuff done as usual.
Parkrun was pretty fun, my competitive streak had me go faster than I had intended. Now to work out how to make training work with my new working hours as of tomorrow.
@AlphaHowls thinking of you
Lenny, great to see you're recovering so well. The packing up before the back of pack runners are done is something I see a lot here and it really pisses me off! Our Camino will be the last 100k or so of the Primitivo route, we don't have time for more. However, apparently the first part through Asturias from Oviedo is the prettiest bit so will have to go back in the future and do that! When I retire I want to do the Via Francigena from Canterbury (UK) to Rome.9
