(Seeing as @Laurz9191 was a massive disappointment LOL 😂 )
There is a can of guinness in the bag for immediately after. The Stroke Association are giving us fish and chips after the race and the fam have booked a Brazilian place near Covent Garden where I will be eating all of the steak!

Fantastic run @7Lenny7 and totally love the idea of dunking in the pond at the end!
I also have an unusual last name. Well, an unusual spelling of a not unusual name. There is no Martaindale society though. As far as we know, my family are the only Martaindales. So I guess it's a society meeting every time we get together.
And, totally amazing race @7lenny7!! Your race reports are so good. Really give me a feel for what your experience was. The first thing I thought when I read about the pond dunk was pond water on open wounds!!! I will admit I'm a little germ aware. Glad you're recovering well.7 -
Good luck @TheMrWobbly !!1

Even hotter yesterday morning. First sports bra run of the year. I just got to FL and am eating lunch before heading to packet pickup. Then my traditional race weekend Italian dinner spot.
Believe it or not, the lows for the next few days are about 5 degrees cooler than what we've had in Houston this week. So, not cool by any means but at least cooler than my last few runs. I'll take it!
My friend flies in tomorrow after I finish the 5k. Really looking forward to seeing her!7 -
Good luck on your races @TheMrWobbly @martaindale !!!4

@7lenny7 Understand that you would need to sit and have your beer. LOL The 71 year old is amazing. I've heard of the Pikes Peak Ascent and can't even imagine doing that. I drove to the top once and could barely breath. You really do not look or act like you just ran 100 miles. Great pictures. Beautiful trail. You do look a little rough in that one picture. By then, you could at least see the light at the end of the tunnel. Amazing that you are already running again. I guess the blisters are all healed?
Sounds like you are recovering well @Laurz9191 . HAHAHA about not running being expensive. We need to see some shoe porn! Good luck with the biking next weekend.
Yesterday I ran 5.6 miles, and I thought about running 5.6 every day this week in honor of my 56th birthday tomorrow. But then I figured, I'm old. I can do whatever I want.
This made me snicker! Happy birthday tomorrow!
Hahaha about the food @tarun_yadavA ! Great running.
Have fun with your race weekend @martaindale ! What is your go to Italian spot?
Nice running @yirara .
Good luck on your races @TheMrWobbly , @martaindale and @daria0919 ! Look forward to hearing all about them.

quilteryoyo wrote: »Amazing that you are already running again. I guess the blisters are all healed?
@quilteryoyo they are mostly healed. I think the swelling I thought I felt was actually the dead or dying skin. I think I could have started running on Monday but I always think about @MobyCarp 's advice of always giving things one more day after you think you've healed. In this case I gave it two days.
Happy birthday, @kgirlhart !!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY @kgirlhart! I hope it’s a grand 56th!
Thanks for remembering about my 10K this weekend @Teresa502 😀, though it pales in comparison to what @7lenny7 did and what @TheMrWobbly and @martaindale will run this weekend. Going to packet pickup in a bit (after the plumber comes by to give an estimate). Expecting 15,000 for the race.
Just two walking miles on the walking pad today to keep legs stretched.

4/18: 6.08 miles
88.14/130 miles completed for April
It was a warm and humid morning. 72°F with 94% humidity. But it was still a nice morning and I enjoyed my birthday run. I felt good and I felt strong. I ended up running 6 miles. I thought about going an extra block to make it a 10K, but I didn't really have time. And honestly, I needed to use the bathroom so I figured 6 miles was just right. It kind of amazes me that I ran 6 miles on my 56th birthday. If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be running at all I would have thought you were crazy. I remember when I turned 50 and running 5.0 miles was really a challenge. I'm not saying that 6 miles is nothing because it is, and some days it is harder than others, but it is a distance I run often.
Thanks for the birthday wishes @quilteryoyo, @7lenny7, and @daria0919. I'm working today, but took off tomorrow so I could have a long weekend.
And good luck on your races this weekend @daria0919, @martaindale and @TheMrWobbly!

Happy birthday @kgirlhart!!
Good luck on your 10k @daria0919!!
Probably smart to take an extra day @7lenny7. The recovery for 100 miles is significant!quilteryoyo wrote: »martaindale ! What is your go to Italian spot?
Enzo's hideaway. It's small and tucked under the entrance to a bridge. It's supposed to be kind of a speakeasy style. It feels intimate and the food is more Italian than American Italian. Most of the restaurants at Disney are so big and bustling. This one has such a good vibe . It has become a bit of a race weekend tradition.4 -
Oh sorry @daria0919 I missed you! Good luck on your 10K. It's just as important as any other race.
Happy Birthday @kgirlhart!
Was in the upper 80s yesterday, and 90 today! Was too tired to get up and run in the morning, plus it was in the mid 70s anyway, so just did 6 TM yesterday, and 4 today. Planning on getting up tomorrow to run since it will be in the 60s.
6 -
@7lenny7 Always smart to wait an extra day, just to be sure. @MobyCarp was a smart cookie.
That's a big race @daria0919 ! Enjoy!
Great running today @kgirlhart . Enjoy your 3 day birthday weekend!
@martaindale That sounds like a great place to eat! Enjoy!
Great running @Scott6255 . Enjoy the cooler temperatures tomorrow.0 -
5 miles tonight. It was a beautiful 45F but pretty windy so I donned a long sleeve shirt. A little bit of pain in my right knee at the start but after I was warmed up it was gone.
Rest day tomorrow then I hit the trails again Saturday. Not really sure how far I'll go though.

A gift arrived from my sister today! The shirt says "and then one day I thought to myself, why don't I run for 100 miles" and the mug says "I ran 100 miles and it only took everything I had and then so. I cried a little."
What a thoughtful gift to commemorate my race!

39.00/65 mile goal
I didn't post yesterday. I went to the gym in the morning. New thing I did was chest press. That really worked my arms in a different way. Afterwards, I walked one mile on the driveway and then played league tennis last night. My partner and I lost, but the other two courts won, so the team overall finally got a win. Yeah for us.
Today I ran out the road. I wasn't feeling the best today, but decided to just run and see how it went. I wanted to stop at mom's since I had a package delivered to her house and it was there. That motivated me to even get out and going. I did a short warm up walk, counted as part of the run, and then ran/walked for a total of 2.50 miles. At that point, it was just too hot and I didn't feel like I could go on, so I walked from the rest. I stopped at mom's for a while and walked the last fast quarter of a mile on the way home. When I saw my HR, I knew why I was having such a hard time. Avg was 153 with a max of 173 bpm. Not sure why it was so high, except I did forget to take some of my prescriptions last night, so.... I was pleased with the pace of the run though; 12:48 min/mile and the fact that my legs felt fine.6 -
Nice running @7lenny7 ! Love those gifts! They are perfect!1
-
Run well @daria0919 – 10k races have their own difficulties, number one being you have to run fast and, ideally, without walk breaks (can’t be sauntering along like those 100 milers do, ay @7lenny7?)
I’m laughing @laurs9191 – signing up for races while recovering, sounds like something I’d do. We’re pretty lucky here in New Zealand, loads of distance running females, but we’re still significantly outnumbered by the men. My only ultra (and it wasn’t an ultra for me as I was in a relay team) had 11 female finishers to 58 male (it was a 60km very challenging trail in absolutely dire weather. The winner took 7:18 to run it and cut off was 15 hours). Interestingly, of the nine that withdrew after 22km, eight were men. And again, at 42km, another seven men withdrew and only one woman. (There were also four that DNS - all men.) So, from my very quick study of a limited data set, fewer women start, but those that do start are ready and able to go the distance. Whether this is a mental thing or whether only women who absolutely know they can do it enter, I don’t know.
As for you @themrwobbly, you have me checking out whether I ought to enter the lottery for next year and worry about the training/airfare/22hour flight later. Super excited for you. I hope it all goes well and I can’t wait to read your report.
I’m feeling excited for you too @martaindale.
Yay for speed work @yiyara, planned or not, it’s a great idea.
@7lenny7, that t-shirt and mug are awesome!
Happiest of birthdays @kgirlhart, good call on the long weekend.
Another great workout @quilteryoyo. Your discipline is impressive.
As for me, since I've found out my iron is low and is why I have 'fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance and poor concentration' (my brain is fried), my subconscious has said, "relax, sleep, you're unwell, have a day off," so I've missed the past three days running (school holidays haven't helped as extra planning around the husband and children are required).
I've started on iron supplements and today headed out for 8.5km. Still experiencing 'reduced exercise tolerance'. It's weird - my lungs are fine, my legs are fine, but no, after about 5km I just want to stop. Hopefully I'll see a big improvement over the coming week as I have a half marathon booked for next Sunday!

The shirt and mug are amazing @7lenny7! "I cried a little" had me laughing! Sums it up pretty well.4

Morning all.
Got in 5.65 (at 09"39).
@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊
@TheMrWobbly downloaded the app... Added you on it!! (I'll be on your left hand side, as you go through miles 10 and 11)
Lol @ Guinness can! Niiiice!
@7lenny7 love the t-shirt and mug! Haha7 -

5k done! Yep, hot and humid but not as bad as the last few days back home. And it's a short run. I will be bringing salt tabs tomorrow for sure.
There were so many Tinkerbells this morning!! The theme was The Neverland 5k, so that was totally expected. Lots of other Peter Pan characters from all the various movies over the years. One of the craziest things about doing a 5 k this size is how long it takes to start everyone. I finished as the last corral was starting and ended up watching those people walk by while waiting on the bus back to the hotel.
Quick shower and clean clothes then off to breakfast!
Costume for the 5k. It's hard to tell in the picture but my wings light up!10 -
Super job @martaindale!! You look great in your costume! Good luck with tomorrow’s race!1
-
Looking great in your costume for your 5K @martaindale!
Love the t-shirt and mug @7lenny7.
Got in a good 6.5 miles this morning. Was nice at 61F, and a stiff 16mph N wind. Pretty good negative splits for each mile. Rain all day tomorrow, so might have to do the long run on Sunday.

41.69/90 Mile Goal
No way will I make my goal for the month but I added another 4.70 miles to it this morning. Temp was a nice 57F. It sprinkled rain on me but nothing major.
Love the shirt and mug @7lenny7!
Happy Birthday Weekend @kgirlhart!!
Love the costume @martaindale! I can’t fathom that many people running a 5k!

Life changes in the blink of the eye.
If you have family, friends, loved ones, do not hesitate to say I love you
Meet your neighbors because they can help
Do not wait for external changes to change you. You are in control.
I went to work on Wednesday. At 1245, the front office manager interrupted my session with a client, with my neighbor calling (I have never met them, I wave at them ever so often). They had found my mother in the front yard and the ambulance was on the way. It was bad, drive to main hospital. It was two hours before I could see her, even with me begging them that I knew my mom was confused and could not answer questions.
My mom has a broken hip. It has to be repaired because she will never get out of bed again if we do not try. My mom can only be operated on in life or death situations, due to many and varied health issues. Mom and I knew and have discussed this possibility. We have a DNR in place. We are in a wait and stabilize pattern right now. She has a large blot clot from her liver to her ankle ( chronic and permanent). They are working to lower her INR before surgery.
Yes, I did crazy laps in her room yesterday and will get another mile here soon. My control, my need to keep one thing that is mine, my daily running streak. With all that, I am mostly offline, off strava for a bit. Still able to try and log my food on myfitnesspal.
Make your life yours, your decisions, your control, to ride the current and not let the current take you.
Run far, run free! Because you can!

@AlphaHowls I am so sorry to hear what your mom and you are going through! Prayers for both of you.2

oh @AlphaHowls so sorry to hear about your mom! Wishing both of you the best! Big *HUGS*2
