RND 257 So far in April, I've met my goals every day along with daily exercise. I aim to finish off April with no "cheat days"!4/16 172 Light eating day yesterday, I just didn't have much of an appetite. Looking at the dates of this round reminded me that my youngest boy's birthday is next week (the 24th). He'll be 6. He is the happiest and sweetest little boy and he brings such joy to everyone ❤️.4/24 169.3 Still going strong for the month of April. I think this has been my best month yet. Feeling great ❤️. Hope the same for everyone here!
4/17 170.2 I was waiting for a drop. I could tell my body has been holding on to water. Also have barely had an appetite for 2 days, so I was a good bit under on calories both days (not complaining about that 🤪). Weight will probably go up a little when I'm eating back to normal.
4/18 170.2 Another good day yesterday. Feels good to set goals and actually stick with them. I set another goal for myself this month also to not bite or pick at my fingernails. (I know it sounds gross) Just something I've been doing since I was a little girl. Bad bad habit that I've never been able to break. Although my nails still aren't long, I have more nails now than I ever have and I can actually paint them 😀.
4/19 171.5 Weighed myself 2 hours early this morning before I really got moving around. Seems like I weigh a little more when I first wake up. Yesterday was another good day with all goals met.
4/20 170.9 Low calorie day yesterday. Not much planned this weekend which is nice to have a break!
4/21 171.7 Japanese for dinner last night. High sodium and rice 😆. Very little sleep the past 2 nights also. Lots of water today!
4/22 169.8 Whew it's good to see the 160's. Just pushing through and sticking with the program. Still no cheat days this month, and have exercised daily. I have been out to eat a several times but I just make sure to keep it in my calories.
4/23 169.8 Yesterday was another good day on target with my goals. I spoke to my sister yesterday over the phone and she told me she is working on getting herself healthy. I have been so worried about her because she was an alcoholic and on top of this she is very overweight. She has stopped drinking and this month alone she's already lost 12 lbs just from no alcohol. She is working out now and working towards eating healthier. I think that her seeing me do better gave her the push to want to as well. Although I never had an issue with alcohol, I'm glad that I can be a good example for her 😃. Praying that she doesn't turn back to drinking and she can have the discipline to stick with it.
4/25 169.5 Another successful round of 10 days! (-2.5 lbs) I enjoyed a cupcake last night for my sweet 6 year old boys birthday. I think that was the first time in months I've had cake. Was able to keep it in my goals for the day. See everyone next round!8 -

4/16-175-Walked after dinner. Finally getting back to a Garden Club meeting- today’s speaker will talk about growing lettuce.
4/22-178-Glad it’s Monday; a good day to start over with good healthy habits.
4/23-177- It’s a step in the right direction. Heading to my sons for a quick visit, then to spend the night at my dad’s; I’ll bring dinner and this 86 year old guy eats Keto! Then back home tomorrow.
4/25-177-Thats fine, at least it’s not higher. Traveling home, I was hungry and saw a quiet pizza place where the was a buffet (food already made) and a clean bathroom. Got home and planted the lilac bush I bought in my travels, along with some other plants. Yoga this morning and more yard work today.9 -

4/25 - 148.2 - A nice drop for the end of the round and I'm happy with that! Gym this morning and I realized that I don't have any more leggings for the gym tomorrow. I went ahead and found leggings on Amazon which have over 20k reviews and 4.5 stars for only ~$25 a piece! I bought 3 in 3 different colors to change things up a bit. I've got some ideas from Coach for next week that will work whether I have to travel or not that include pre-cooked frozen protein (I found chicken breast, sliced chicken breast, and chicken nuggets), frozen starch (the thought of sweet potato fries is making me hungry) or microwavable pasta, rice, etc. and frozen veg which can easily be tossed together and heated up in a matter of minutes. This will also help since I won't have to worry about meal prep on Sunday after my 10k. See you next round!
Previous Day's Comments4/16 - DNP
4/17 - Busy with work and completely forgot to check in and post! Oops. Doing pretty well so far. BF skipped out on the gym this morning but I went and had a really good back&shoulders day by myself. I'm suuuuuper duper sore in my legs from Monday so I think I'm holding on to a little weight from DOMS. I just got my 2 new recipe books in, both Paleo (Well Fed and Well Fed 2). Meals planned out for today and feeling capable. Hopefully work is productive but not overly stressful. Yesterday was a good balance and I'd be okay with that again.
4/18 - TOM and with a vengeance. For what? I don't know. I knew it was going to start today and it hit right as I started my workout. Ouch. I'm super bloated and horrid cramping so I'm taking it as easy as possible the rest of the day. Explains the scale, though! Almond butter oatmeal for breakfast. Chicken pot pie soup for lunch, dinner will be ground beef and broccoli. Depending on if I need to be on a work call about 10pm tonight, I'll wake up and run (last run before the 10k next weekend). BF going to the gym for a second round of legs. Work is busy busy busy and stressful. Can't wait to get this part of the project DONE
4/19 - I ended up waking up right as BF came back from the gym and it threw me off routine so I forgot to weigh. I'm not upset about it, I'm still dealing with some horrible TOM/PMS including bloat so it's probably better I don't see the scale and add one more reason to be down on myself. Instead, I told myself I was going to have a really good run and I did. I repeated the Peloton 60 minute walk/run and I feel like I did better (at least I felt better) during this one which is good. I'm tired and sore (hills) but I feel accomplished. I ended up getting a coach for the next 4 months. Typically they do 6 months but since I'm ahead of the game compared to her normal clients, she's starting me at 4 with option to continue after that. Our focus is nutrition but I can ask small things about exercise and mindset or I can choose to add in those coaching modules for an added price at any time, too. Due to budget I'm sticking to the number one thing I feel like I could use the most help which is nutrition. I'm excited to start Monday! I think having the monetary investment will keep me accountable and the added accountability to my coach will keep me better focused and more aligned with goals than trying to do it on my own. I know how to eat right, but I'm still very unbalanced macro-wise which is what she'll help me with. Progress, not perfection!
4/20 - DNP
4/21 - DNP
4/22 - Glad to be back down, even if I'm just bouncing around this weight a bit. I'll take it given it was a weekend and things never go as planned food-wise on weekends hah! Today is officially Day 1 with my new Coach. She got me access to the app Friday afternoon so I spent the weekend logging what I could and simply getting comfortable with it, learning all the features. I can input my workouts (even though we're not focused there), food, weight, steps, etc. I'm excited to see where this leads. This week is simply logging at least 4 days so we can see where I stand. I have macro goals in place, but the focus isn't on meeting them perfectly. We're learning this week and next week we can implement changes to try to meet those macros more consistently. Will be interesting since I'll be gone this weekend and eating out at least Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast/lunch due to the 10k (out of town). Will need to figure out meal plan for next week so I can get groceries on Saturday morning before we leave otherwise I might not be getting groceries until Tuesday and no meal prepping for either of us! Eeek!
4/23 - I typed an update yesterday but apparently never hit post. Oops. It's down in my spoiler if you want to read my ramblings from yesterday that never made it to your screens. Today has started off rough. I'm getting enough sleep, I'm just not getting the right kind of sleep (mostly light, not enough deep/REM at all). I would've slept in if BF didn't make me get up for the gym. Nothing spectacular, I maintained weight but didn't try to push.. not that I had the energy since I barely made it through the workout as it was. Hopefully my body and mind start waking up properly soon so I can get through the day a little smoother than this morning has gone. At least the workout, as mediocre as it was, helped get some kind of endorphins kicking around and keeping me upright with eyes open so far!
4/24 - Holding steady here and I've been sticking to my macros. My meals haven't been the absolute best, but this week is learning and I'm definitely learning a lot. There's a fairly good chance I'll be traveling for work next week but not 100% sure and therefore unsure if it'll be just a couple days or a full week. Will hopefully know more soon so I can plan my meals for next week accordingly to limit food waste and make a travel plan with my Coach. Otherwise, just the same old situation. Work is absolutely kicking my behind, but progress is getting made which is good. Hopefully this madness will all settle out in the next couple of weeks. If I travel next week that means the worst of this will be over by mid-May. Fingers crossed! I know this stress is not helping my health goals!9 -

I ate a lot yesterday, mostly healthy food, just too much. I’m not worried about the uptick. We have another gorgeous day, with rain forecast this evening and tomorrow, so I’m planning more garden infrastructure work today again. It’s good exercise, with a bigger purpose. 😊
4/17 - 195
Rainy day, so I’m off to knit for a while with a friend. Always fun to knit in company and talk and laugh. She usually feeds my lunch when I do, but I’m taking a curried pineapple chicken salad this time. Yummy!
4/18 - 194.4
This is long, so no need to read. I’m writing partly to find out what I’m thinking. I’m in the throes of some big decisions about life, all building up for a while but banging around in my head in a big way right now. I’ve mentioned here my friend who has had serious health problems over the past year and is now on dialysis 3 days a week and essentially immobile. On Tues her husband came in from mowing the lawn, sat down with a cold drink, and had a massive heart attack. Last I heard he was alive but not responsive. This has all been a sad reminder that life can change in a heartbeat, literally. I’m 71 and Roger will be 89 in July. We’re both healthy, thankfully, but realistically I don’t have much time left to monkey around. (20 years is not much time imo.) Things that used to be vitally important to me no longer are, and I’ve developed some new interests. One of the decisions I’ve made is to (try to) step back from my lifelong worry about weight and tracking calories and yada yada. The recent photo with the stack of diet books really hit me—like many of you, I’ve read everything and know a lot and yet have struggle with weight or worry about weight since the first diet I was put on in the fourth grade. The only times in my life I haven’t “dieted” (and I include any kind of restriction in that) were when I was working and studying overseas, and walking everywhere. Clearly my lifelong diet worry hasn’t worked. So one of the things I’m dropping, maybe short term, maybe for good, is tracking. I’ve already stopped tracking food, and I’ve put my scale in the closet after this morning’s weigh in. All of which is to say I’m not sure how long I’ll stay with this group. I really enjoy reading your posts, but I may need to step away for a while. I’ll stick around for this round and see. Anyway, thank you all for being so supportive and open about your journeys.
4/19 - DNW
Thanks to those who commented on my long entry yesterday. The good news is that my friend’s husband is doing reasonably well. And I’m feeling pretty good about trying not to track, although it’s so thoroughly ingrained after years of doing it that it’s mostly automatic. Anyway…. @_JeffreyD_ I do journal by hand most days—I’ve filled many notebooks! Research shows that our brains are more engaged when writing by hand than when typing. Not that I can read my own writing anymore! But journaling, like walking alone and unplugged, is a great way to work things out. Pulling weeds, too, and that’s what I’m off to do!

I thought I posted yesterday, but I can’t find it. Duh! It’s turned cold here—too cold for comfy garden work so I think I’ll make some progress on my knitting project today. 😊 Enjoy your Sunday!

I almost got my scale out yesterday but resisted the urge. I went out for my usual Monday lunch with a friend yesterday and ate quite a bit less than I have been eating, going with “do I really want it” rather than “can I fit in the calories if I don’t eat anything else today” (which of course I usually do). So I’m counting that as a win. Also finished knitting a shawl ‘ve been working on and blocked it this morning. Trying to decide what’s next on this rainy day. 😊

Charlie and I started a new agility class yesterday—it was great to be out running around again. Then I came home and unblocked my new shawl—thought I’d share. I’m pleased with the way it turned out. The pattern in Highland Thistle by Carol Holbrook, and if you look closely you can see the thistles. 😊

1st round for me
Total so far this round: (-.6)
4/15 153.0
4/16 152.6 Ate out for lunch and dinner, went about 200 over calories goal and didn't eat as many veggies as I prefer. Will make a meal plan for the week today and include more veggies.
4/17 151.8 stayed within calories, ate more vegetables, still need to work on more water 💦, did not make a meal plan for the week so doing that this morning
4/18 152.2 I feel better with no dairy and gluten. I’ve been on a modified bed rest for 3 weeks due to various issues in the L4-L5-S1 of my spine, waiting to see specialists. A friend brought dinner over and I ate gluten and dairy, weight and inflammation are up. No surprise.
4/19 151.2 A more normal eating day yesterday, still need to keep working on getting all my water 💦 in
4/20 152.4 Went to dinner with friends and ate a way larger dinner with dessert than I am used to later at night. Was over calories by 300.
4/21 152.4
4/22 151.8 I ate some sugary items on Saturday after the Friday dessert. Seems to work that way, when I eat sugar I want it again and again. Sunday I chose not to eat sugar and I ate less than the two days before. I’m not saying no sugar/never sugar. For me, it tends to awaken a craving and then I tend to overeat when I’m eating sugar.
4/23 151.8 Got some movement on an appointment with a neurosurgeon, hopefully in June once they get my MRI. Having to go to another city 2.5 hours away as the surgeons recommended in my town are booked out until October. Honestly, I just need someone besides my PT (who is great) to read my MRI and get me pointed in a direction or two. Acupuncture has finally helped in the last two weeks and I’m moving around better. I’m starting a water exercise plan today and hoping I can get some pain free movement in. I’m used to cycling, hiking, gardening, yoga and this limited activity has me really wanting to move! I will definitely be back here for the next round as I’m feeling determined, as ever, to drop any weight to help this back issue. And if I were to have surgery (which I really don’t want to have!) less weight would definitely help with recovery.
4/24 151.6 My PT gave me a few exercises to do in the pool. Felt ok during but lots of discomfort in the hours after. I’ve had issues with chronic pain for several years and realized in the last year that I was eating to try to numb the pain. Continuing to work on that as I go through issues with my back.
4/25 152.4 Feeling frustrated as I had really hoped to have a larger loss in these 10 days. I’ve been so consistent. I ate a small serving of “healthy” bagged popcorn with only 170 mg of sodium last night. Wonder if that was the reason for the weight gain? Just trying to learn and move forward. I’ll take the smaller loss as a win and step into the next round.5 -

I really need to get it together and stop the zigzagging..- This is what I wrote out at the beginning of Round 250:
~ My plan is to eliminate drinking alcohol on a nightly basis
Been keeping up with this still but when I do drink on the weekends I go into like a downward spiral and then spend the rest of round struggling to come back out of it
~ Really need to keep coming back HERE to check in every day. I was missing that last round. I have a super fabulous wedding coming up on June 1st in Ft. Lauderdale with a Boca crowd. Really want to look my best😁

~ Rolling my 167 mini-goal over to the next round! My husband decided to get his diet in check and that was so shocking to me because he hasn’t turned this particular leaf over since he had a major heart attack 5 years ago. I was so happy for him and us doing it together and yet somehow this caused me to do a secret binge on Tuesday. Even though I’ve done allot of healing and self reflection in order to remove my emotional ties to food, some how that old disorder can still peak in every now and then

4/16 178.0 That was a pretty good drop since yesterday, so I won’t be surprised with a bounce tomorrow, if there is one. Had a great walk in the neighborhood last night. The weather has been picture perfect the last few days! Food has been on track now for quite some time. I’m craving protein at night recently but so far I am resisting once I’m done for the day. I’m happy with the macro levels I am currently achieving. We are moving Dad into Assisted Living next Wednesday, so I'm having trouble shutting my brain down at night. Only getting about 5 hours of sleep these days and that's after I get up and finally take a nerve pill. I know Assisted Living's the right thing to do, and he seems to be ok with it, but I just worry.
4/17 178.4 Did a yoga session right before bed and that did seem to help me get to sleep. Today I need to get in a good walk.
4/18 178.4 No real exercise today, but some yoga before bed to help me sleep.
4/19 178.2 Got in a long walk after dinner and it felt great to get in some real mileage. I did find out that Medicare will pay for a gym membership through the Silver Sneakers program, so I may give that a try once it kicks in and I have a little more time for myself. They have water aerobics and a circuit training for us OAPs (LOL) that maybe my knees can handle. Plus, of course, you have access to everything else there. I used to enjoy my gym before Covid. We'll see. I gave in and had a chocolate milkshake with my granddaughter and my dad, so yesterday was my highest carb day since starting this. I guess we will find out if my walk and only eating salad afterwards will prevent a bounce.
4/20 177.6 I’ve increased the distance of my walks and am really enjoying that after dinner. Hubby starts out with me most of the time and then I finish after he goes back to the house. But now I'm going a lot further than I was before. I am sleeping better, so I’m hoping to be able to keep this going.
4/21 178.8 Not sure what brought about this little bounce, but hoping I get it gone tomorrow. Continued my walking this afternoon and it really feels great! Did well with food choices again today.
4/22 178.6 My eating is on track and I’m getting in lots more exercise than even last round. I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and the numbers will eventually cooperate. I lost good last round and often the round after that is SLOW! That’s exactly what’s going on here. It’ll be just fine!
4/23 177.8 Here’s a little drop, and I’ll take it.
4/24 178.8 Playing with the same pound or two this round. Maybe after I get Dad settled in at Assisted Living, I can work on figuring out what’s going on. Food choices haven’t really changed, and I’ve been getting in exercise. Body is just fighting me, I guess. Not unusual.
4/25 178.4 Moved Dad into a beautiful Assisted Living place yesterday, and had no time for tracking or formal exercise. Didn’t eat much though. I’m happy with this round and excited for the next one!7 -

Busted: two drinks last night! Tequila and lime juice - zero- low carb! Onward!
Back to the drawing board in R258. Surely I can do it FOR 10 DAYS!!!! Isn’t this the THEME?! Just give me 10 days!!!!???? I mean, that’s the POINT of this challenge, RIGHT? For me, it’s kinda lazy to continue from one round to the next and NOT get it for 10 measly days?!!! COME ON!
Carolyn, I meant to mention your low carb margarita. They had a skinny margarita on the ship that was tequila, lime juice and seltzer, if I recall correctly. There was something that gave a hint of sweet. It was pretty good. Fresca with tequila is pretty good too.
And I totally get the mini-rant about 10 days! It’s not long, I should be able to do it. Sometimes I feel 10 minutes is out of the question! Now that DH has given up the board presidency he is in control of his life again and has started making dinner dates with friends. Hence, Golden Corral last week and Outback tonight. I’m going to have to keep a grip on my eating and work around these things. We CAN DO THIS!6 -

SW RND 257 134.5 AW. 135.1
4/16 134.0 Finally dropped a bit and DH set up dinner date at Golden Corral 🤦♀️🤦♀️ I have a plan since we are going later so friends can get butterfly shrimp. I will get salad and steak and see what good veggies they have. I can do this! OY! This morning has been a mess. Now to finish reading today’s posts.
4/17 136.5 I only ate one meal yesterday. That was at GC. I really didn’t eat a lot of food but it was high carb-breaded shrimp and Nashville Chicken Bites, sugar free vanilla cake and the blueberry filling from a slice of SF blueberry pie, at a 2” square of real crust from “apple cobbler.” I also drank a lot of water after we got home. I feel bloated-something I don’t experience often. Optometrist today so I can replace the glasses that broke when I fell in Ensenada. Tonight is community bingo with pizza for dinner.🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
4/18 138.5 The thick crust pizza was cold be the time it was served so I couldn’t even pry the toppings lose to throw the crust away. This is turning into a stellar week🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️I’m having my BP coffee and pondering my plan. On the upside-It’s great of the scale to let me know it’s working by showing increases.🤪😂
4/19 136.5 Liquid fast yesterday
4/20 134.5 Liquid fast yesterday but short on water. Going to Great Greek today
4/21 135.0 Super low calories the last week, no idea why the bump up. Just keeping to it and riding the waves.
4/22 134.5 Today I have my Art Quilt group across town.
4/23 134.5 Expected a slight bump since I ate ham, maybe tomorrow. If it happens I’m good with it.
4/24 133.5 Today DH is going to brunch with our blind friend who no longer lives in our neighborhood. His daughter bought a house with a “mother in law” space so Frank has his own private area.
4/25 133.5 Just got home from shopping at Sam’s Club. Tonight we are going to Outback. I will get steak and lobster!6 -
@SheilaBoneham that shawl is so pretty!5

Round 257: Female, 62 yy, 4'11''
Goals for 10 Day Challenge: weigh-in and post daily!
Highest Weight Ever: 177.2
Starting Weight: 167.9
Starting BMI: 33.8
5 year member of MFP, and rejoining this group after a long hiatus @quiltingjane and others here really helped me reach my goal weight back in March 2020 and transition to maintenance. (did 30 rounds in 2019-20, so this is round 32!) Covid happened and the weight has gradually crept back on so starting over again. I know I can do this (keeping my old profile photo for motivation), but I have to focus on tracking weight, calories in, balancing macros and incorporating exercise - ideally a mix of cardio and weights (one thing I know is that I just can't exercise at the level I was before) and figuring out how to maintain good habits (always the issue)! Right now that is a long way out, but little steps like the 10-day challenge are what I need! So here we go again!
4/16 167.9 Annual exam (weighed with clothing so probably 1.5 - 2 lb over compared to weighing at home). Weight is almost at my highest (177.1) and my cholesterol is high. Starting over!
4/18 out of town
4/19 out of town
4/20 out of town
4/21 out of town – home at 9:30pm
4/22 165.0, 43.7% BF
4/23 164.6, 43.8% BF - Put new batteries in my spin bike and road for 30 minutes in Zwift (so out of shape!)
4/24 163.0, 43.2% BF – nice to see this, although I am guessing it is mainly water weight as reducing carbs relative to protein/fat. Kept to calorie budget, but was still hungry at end of day (not good) so may need to look at macros to make sure I feel full with current total budget.
4/25 163.4, 43.4% BF – expected this bounce back. But overall happy with initial loss! Need to stay accountable!

We CAN DO THIS!
@quiltingjaine
Yes, let’s DO IT!!💪🏻🙌🏻
R258 is the pivot!
