It was cloudy and warm this morning at 74°F. I ran another 6.25 miles. I wore my new shoes and I was pleased with them. They are supposed to be a crossover between trail and road shoes. They did seem more grippy than my other shoes.
Congratulations on winning your tennis @quilteryoyo !

Morning all.
Got in a 7.49M run (at 09"29).
@quilteryoyo Congratulations on the win!!! Yayyy!! Tennessee's own Chrissy Evert! Haha.
@TheMrWobbly good to see you back out there!
Off day tomorrow! Flying early morning! Italy with the Missus for a 'romantic'(??) weekend getaway9 -
Checking in and getting caught up with everyone. I haven't run since the 10 miler. I had plans but a couple days after I got home I came down with the my first illness since 2019. I used to catch colds a few times a year from patients and occasionally something my kid would bring home from school but with us still masking at work and the kid getting older, I just haven't been sick. It's been really nice! Symptoms are mostly in my head but I'm not sleeping well and I have a bit of a cough so I just haven't had the energy to run. I'm going to take a short walk this morning because that seems to clear the sinuses and hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow so I can run.11
-
Thanks @kgirlhart . Great running. Glad the shoes are working out.
Hahahaha @tarun_yadavA . Thanks. Great run. Enjoy your romantic weekend!
Sorry you aren't feeling well @martaindale ! I hope you get better quickly.1 -
Ugh, sorry your not feeling well @martaindale! Hopefully some fresh air will do you some good.
Got in 7 miles with my brother here in Atlanta. Always seem to find the biggest hills when running here 😟 But weather was great.

Well, I finally caught COVID. I managed to dodge it for 4 years but I knew it would catch up to me eventually.11

Everyone's ride is different. I was 100% clear I wasn't back to normal for three weeks (not bad, just not 100%) And I had infrequent coughs for another two months.
Overall not bad, and I am certain I preferred to have never caught it. Be well...you are a rock star.5 -
Nice run @Scott6255 - cool that you ran with your brother.
@martaindale so very sorry to hear you have COVID. I do hope you can rest and have a speedy recovery.0 -

A short 2 mile run this morning after my full body dumbbell workout. Yesterday’s workout with weights was leg day. Combined with today’s workout, my legs are already sore!
Congrats on winning your tennis match @quilteryoyo!
Enjoy your getaway to Italy @tarun_yadavA!
Hope you are better soon @martaindale. The one and only time that I had COVID, I’m convinced I caught it on an airplane traveling home from Ireland – actually the leg from Atlanta into my tiny airport. Coincidentally, the guy sitting next to me on that leg was a co-worker and he caught it also.

Hi everyone! I haven’t had time to post lately, but I had a nice and easy running week. The weather was super wintery and below freezing at the beginning of the week with snow, ice, and sleet. Then it progressed to rain and now we are looking at 20C (68) for my 100km cycling race on Sunday. True spring weather! Due to the conditions, I didn’t get any bike rides in this week (I am so used to running in awful weather, so I just went with that). I will take my race bike for a spin tomorrow to pick up my race pack. I am very excited for the ride even though I know it will be long and there are some steep climbs.
I tried out my new shoes (Saucony Guide) a few days ago. They are my first pair of stabilising shoes. I do over pronate but usually get away with wearing certain models of neutral shoes. This time it really was the only shoe I tried that got my feet in a “good” position. The run went well but I am not sure that my foot “loves” being put in its place. We’ll see. I need to test them some more, but am currently in a race/recovery/taper pattern until after my HM on the 5th.
23.04 11.1km (“hill” run)
24.04 7.2 km (with 3km HM goal pace)
25.04 6.2 km (easy treadmill)
152.9/200km for April.8 -
@quilteryoyo I’m glad you got a win in tennis this time!
@martaindale I am sorry to hear you are sick with Covid. I hope you feel better soon!
@tarun_yadavA Have a great trip to Italy!
@Scott6255 It’s so nice that you were able to get a nice long run in with your brother! Even if it was a hills one .1 -

@martaindale - COVID, that’s bad luck, hope it doesn’t affect you too badly.
@quilteryoyo - Well done on the tennis!5 -
I do apologize for not being too active this month. I just have not been in much of a chatty mood for some reason. I have been trying to keep up and of course running. LOL.
I finally set my goal to 110 miles today. Nothing like just a few days left to figure things out.
I have had some great runs this month and some really struggle bus ones. However I look back to last year this time and my BACK was killing me to the point I could not hardly find any relief in any position and sleeping. forget it. So a year later I haven't been on the courts much but my back is 100%. Perhaps the small amount of strength training with hand weights has helped to strengthen whatever weakness is there.

Glad you and your brother got in a nice run today @Scott6255 !
Oh no @martaindale ! I hope you have a mild case and recover quickly!
Thanks @Teresa502 . Nice run this morning after a tough leg workout.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . Love the shoes. Good luck with your bike race on Sunday.
Thanks @mari333a . Nice that you are getting faster.
You've done great with the running this month @SummerSkier . Strength training IS SUPPOSED to help with the back by strengthening the core. Glad you aren't in pain like last year.5 -
After trying to go for a second walk yesterday and only making in half a mile, I was happy that I felt well enough today to try again. When I walked last night, the fatigue kicked in hard and I noticed my chest feeling kind of constricted when I tried to take a deep breath.
I've been mostly sitting in bed, binge watching Killing Eve. Really good, btw. But by the afternoon, I was starting to get a bit antsy. So my husband and I took a slow socially distanced walk for about a mile and a half and it was okay. I was ready to be done about the time we finished but I didn't feel overly tired and the tightness I was feeling in my chest yesterday evening has resolved. And my HR didn't get too high.
Yesterday afternoon and evening I felt really terrible. But today I am feeling slightly better and I have hopes that by tomorrow I'll basically be back to normal. In an attempt to practice what I preach, I will continue to take it easy and not return to exercise for another week or so. Until then, I'll be going for some walks and depending on how I'm feeling in about a week I'll test out a short run. One of my biggest fears is developing long covid and @polskagirl01's experience has shown me it's nothing to mess around with. So I will be following all the advice and not pushing too hard too fast.10 -
Glad you are taking it easy @martaindale . I did some relaxing yoga when I had covid, but not much else. I hope you feel better soon.4
-
I'm glad you are feeling a bit better today @martaindale . Great job on the walk and hopefully every day you will fill a little better.3

I didn't post yesterday. Just went to the gym and then did a driveway walk after spending longer than intended helping mom finish a jigsaw puzzle. Then, we had a neighborhood get together where I ate way too may snacks. It was fun and worth it though.
This morning, I did a driveway wun. Then, this afternoon, I played the last of the tennis league matches. My partner and I played really well, but we lost 4-6 and then 2-7 in a second set tie break. We should have won the second one, as we were up 3-0, then 4-1, but just couldn't keep that momentum going. We had fun and that is the most important thing.7 -
A long time ago I signed up for a triathlon. Everything changed, mostly for the better, but I didn't race.
I decided to go to the race just to get jazzed up.
The race used to be called Wildflower, it has been reborn and rechristened, but it's at the same place and same time of year.
Just a beautiful mountain course, a beautiful lake, and a gorgeous day.
This is the guy who won the triathlon (M80-85 division)11 -
Had my trail half today. It was beautiful, and slow. It was on a mountain bike trail - not my favourite- so a lot of up and down, which was pretty hard work. Lots of lovely running through the trees and one killer hill where all the trees had been felled so you could see exactly how much further you had to go, which was a mind battle. We had a fun weekend away, if freezing - Taupo has a much cooler climate than Auckland, so the morning frosts came as a bit of a shock. Also, last night, about 10:30 when I was almost asleep, we had a couple of short, very noisy earthquakes, which gave me a nasty fright.
Pics in spoiler
On the Saturday, we walked the path alongside the river that boasts the Huka Falls (a natural beauty spot which is NZ’s most visited tourist destination). About 4km each way, then followed it up in the resort’s thermal pool. Divine.12
